Description

A FORWARD AND BACKWARD ADJUSTMENT MECHANISM FOR
FRONT PASSENGER SEAT
Field of the Invention
The present invention relates to an adjustment mechanism that enables the position of the front passenger seat in commercial and passenger vehicles to be adjusted by moving it forward and backward on the horizontal axis and the adjusted position to be fixed.
Background of the Invention Today, many studies are carried out to increase passenger comfort and safety in commercial and passenger vehicles. In the automotive sector, where competition prevails, the comfort offered to the user is as important as the design of the vehicles. Studies are carried out on seat ergonomics in order to provide sufficient comfort conditions for the driver and passengers during travelling. In addition to seat ergonomics, functionality is also important, especially for the effective use of the interior of the vehicle having a limited space and for people of different sizes to use the vehicle comfortably. For this purpose, the driver and front passenger seats are designed to move forward and backward in the horizontal axis in order to provide sufficient knee distance for the passengers sitting in the back seat. The forward and backward movement of the driver's seat provides sufficient knee distance for the passengers sitting in the back, as well as positioning the driver in a position where the driver can easily reach and control the steering wheel and pedals. The forward and backward movement of the front seats in the vehicle is commonly provided by a rail to which the seat cushion part of the seat is connected. The seat slides along this rail in a horizontal axis and moves forward and backward. In order to control this movement, a handle is positioned under the seat cushion part of the seat, on the front side facing the user. When the user pulls this handle, the seat is released in the rail and it is adjusted to the desired position by sliding it to the desired distance by the seated person. With the release of the said handle, the position of the seat is fixed. The forward and backward adjustment of the front seats only by the person sitting on the seat causes problems, especially when the front passenger seat is empty. In cases where the front passenger seat is empty, the driver or one of the passengers at the rear seat trying to reach the adjustment handle of the front seat in order to set sufficient knee distance in the rear passenger seats imposes a safety risk, so the vehicle must be stopped. Trying to change the forward and backward adjustment of the front passenger seat without stopping the vehicle may cause the vehicle to crash.
In Chinese Utility model no CN204801550, an application known in the state of the art, there are two adjustment handles which enable the front passenger seat to be moved forward and backward by the passenger sitting in the back seat. One of the adjustment handles extends towards the front of the seat, while the other extends towards the back.
International patent document no W02007057590, an application known in the state of the art, discloses two movement bars which are placed under the vehicle seat and enable the vehicle seat to be moved forward and backward. One of the said movement bars extends towards the front of the seat, while the second one extends towards the back seat.
German patent document no DE10200804185, an application known in the state of the art, discloses two locking elements extending to the front and back of the seat in order to prevent the vehicle seat from moving forward and backward. The Problems Solved with the Invention
The objective of the present invention is to provide an adjustment mechanism that enables to move the front passenger seat of the vehicle forward and backward on the horizontal axis and to fix its position in the desired position.
Detailed Description of the Invention
A forward and backward adjustment mechanism for front passenger seat developed to fulfill the objectives of the present invention is illustrated in the accompanying figures, in which:
Figure 1 is the view of the adjustment mechanism of the present invention as mounted on the seat.
Figure 2 is view of the adjustment mechanism as mounted on the seat slide. Figure 3 is the cross-sectional view of L bracket.
Figure 4 is the view of the tab on the L bracket.
The components given in the figures are individually numbered where the numbers refer to the following:
1. Adjustment mechanism
11. Pin
12. L bracket
13. Handle
14. Connection member
A. Front passenger seat
B. Slide The adjustment mechanism (1), which enables the position of the front passenger seat (A) in commercial and passenger vehicles to be adjusted by passengers sitting in the back seats of the vehicle by moving it forward and backward on the horizontal axis and the adjusted position to be fixed, essentially comprises a handle (13) connected to the rear part of a slide (B) facing the back seats which is fixed to a vehicle floor and in which a front passenger seat (A) moves, and an L bracket (12) enabling the handle (13) to be connected onto a slide (B) in which a front passenger seat (A) moves and which is mounted to the vehicle floor.
Passengers sitting in the back seat of the vehicle can push the front passenger seat (A) forward or pull it backwards thanks to the adjustment mechanism (1) of the present invention which enables the position of the front passenger seat (A) in the commercial and passenger vehicles to be adjusted by moving it forward and backward on the horizontal axis and to fix the adjusted position. The said adjustment mechanism (1) is connected to a slide (B) in which the front passenger seat (A) moves. A front passenger seat (A), comprised of two parts as a backrest and a seat cushion, is mounted on a slide (B) which is connected to the vehicle floor under the seat cushion part for being able to move forward and backward on the horizontal axis. The front passenger seat (A) can be moved forward and backward at a certain distance by sliding in this slide (B). A handle (13) is positioned on the slide (B) mounted on the floor of a vehicle, on the part thereof that is aligned with and below the backrest of a front passenger seat (A). A handle (13) connected to the part of a slide (B) facing the back seats enables a front passenger seat (A) to be moved from the rear part. A handle (13) is connected on a slide (B) by means of a screw, rivet and a similar connection member (14). The connection member (14) is mounted by being passed through the mounting hole provided on an L bracket (12) positioned between the slide (B) and the handle (13). A tab is positioned on the L bracket (12), which provides reference to the slide (B). A pin (11) positioned on the slide (B) such that it protrudes towards the seat cushion of the front passenger seat (A) unblocks the slide (B). It is a pin shaped protrusion on the slide that unblocks the mechanism allowing the seat to move forward and backward and used in existing seat slides.
