Abstract
The present invention relates to a patch panel with seven sigments. The traditional patch panel is considered the end of network cables and consists of 24 outlets. The first patch has the numbers 1-24; the second patch has the numbers 25-48; the third patch - if any - has the numbers 49-72. An adhesive paper is fixed on the first patch panel showing the numbers 1-24, 25-48, 49-72. However, the inventive patch panel is provided with 24 segments, each 7 segments correspond to a port in the patch panel. Each port has a display showing its number in the network. Thus, instead of stating the numbers on an adhesive paper, patches are automatically numbered through the seven segments (the monitor).
Description
A Patch Panel with Seven Segments
Technical Field :A Patch Panels Background Art:
The traditional patch panel is considered the end of network cables and consists of 24 outlets.
The first patch has the numbers 1 -24. When another patch is added, an additional label is adhered with numbers 25-48. If a third patch is added, another label should be adhered with numbers 49- 72. Traditionally, an adhesive label is adhered on the first patch panel with numbers 1-24, 25-48 and 49-72, as shown in figure (4).
Disadvantages of Prior Art
Traditionally, an adhesive label with digital data referring to cable number is printed by a computer or a label machine printer. Alternatively, the cable number is manually written. However, both methods are time consuming; the adhesive label may fall or get torn by time, and both the label machine and the adhesive paper are expensive.
Disclosure Of The Invention :
Novel Aspects of the Invention
According to the current invention, each patch panel has 24 ports; each integrated port has an upper display showing its number. It also has a small control panel in its visible part for changing the displayed patch number. Each rack has three patch panels at least. The displayed numbers are
1-24, 25-48, and 49-72.
According to the current invention, the displayed numbers are changed through the control panel. Pressing the increasing number button then the "Save" button automatically changes the whole piece into 1-24; for the second patch panel, the increasing number button is pressed twice then the "Save" button to display numbers 25-48, and so on. Numbers displayed can reach 999.
Detailed Descripion of the Invention
Circuit components:
1- An electronic panel with seven fixed segments (each containing 24 cables), whereas each seven segments corresponds to one port of the patch panel.
2- 220 V Ac- 12 V Dc electric converter
3- A specific inlet for the electric energy fed from the electronic panel.
4- A specific V12 outlet in the same panel for feeding the next patch panel with electricity through a back to back cable. Each electric converter feeds three patch panels through a back to back cable.
5- An optical panel bearing the market name of the product is
6- A control panel having the following four buttons: a- a number increasing button b- a number decreasing button c- On/Of button d- Save button
7- Circuit constituents such as chip, rectifiers and coils The tables of values of all components are shown in papers with 8 sheets
8- Lightening indicator lamp for indicating electric conductivity from converter to circuit
9- 7-segment displays External frame
A metal body is made from stainless steel for including the electric circuit and cable outlets fixed on the module inside the patch panel, as illustrated in the figures.
Method of Use
Cables inside each patch panel are numbered as follows: 1-24 for the first patch, 25-48 for the second patch, and 49-72 for the third one.
As illustrated in the table, the circuit is programmed so that whenever the increasing/decreasing number button is pressed the correct serial numbers appear on the display to table no. 1
It consists of two parts
1- An external stainless steel chassis
2- Internal PCB board The Chassis
The chassis consists of three parts, as illustrated in the drawing figure (5).
1- The front part:
A front part of the illustrated dimensions that consists of 24 openings for the module part (17.00x2.50), and 24 openings above them (8.20x2.13), as illustrated in figure (5-1).
2-The back part:
It consists of a steel piece, as illustrated in figure figure (5-2). It consists of 24 holes dimensions (2.50 * 17.00)
3- A cable holder:
It consists of a steel piece, as illustrated in figure (5-3), cut by CNC machine to get accurate dimensions, as illustrated in the figures.
Internal Board
The board consists of a plurality of rectifiers, seven segments, and a main board, as illustrated in the figures. It also includes a keyboard for increasing/decreasing the numbers displayed on the patch according to table no. 1.
Method of use
The "Set" button should be pressed twice for numbering to start. To increase numbers, the increasing number button should be pressed. To decrease numbers, the decreasing number button should be pressed. The button "Set" should be pressed twice for numbers saving. An on/off button is provided for turning numbering on and off.
A Motherboard
Rectifiers, condensers, transistors and IC, as well as their positions in the panel, are illustrated in the figures. Moreover, the exact dimensions of the seven segments on the board that fit the steel chassis openings are illustrated, in addition to 12 V DC- 220 V AC adapter.
Usability method
The current invention can be applied to internal networks in factories, institutions and corporations. The patch panel should be installed at the end of UTP cables. It can also be useful for modern computer providers.
