Definitions
- the present invention deals with a tool connected to a locomotion device, such as, for example, a robot with an umbilical cable, to provide a controlled reaction in the vicinity of the obstruction in order to carry out its removal.
- a locomotion device such as, for example, a robot with an umbilical cable
- an injection and control system is used, which can be a closed loop control system.
- paraffin obstructions are related to the homonymous fraction of oil, that is, alkanes with a chain between 20 and 40 carbon atoms. These components, when in low temperature, tend to be deposited on the walls of the pipes, causing obstruction and, eventually, blockage. Such blockages impede the continuity of production. In some situations, it is possible to unblock the line using devices known as Flexitubes (Coiled Tubing), which are flexible steel tubes wound in the form of a coil and which are pushed into the line. However, such equipment cannot travel efficiently over long distances inside the duct, in ducts with complex geometry or in the opposite direction. ascending. In addition, many platforms do not have the capacity to operate them due to their weight.
- depressurization is a risky technique. Such risks are associated with the large pressure differential generated between the ends of the hydrate plug. Such pressure differential causes the hydrate to move at a high speed towards the UEP, which can cause damage on its arrival.
- US2007151475A1 refer to various equipment and methods for clearing ducts, as can be seen below.
- US2005217855A1 reveals a PIG-type tool, for unblocking a duct by means of chemical reagents in liquid form, in order to dissolve the hydrates and paraffins that block the regular passage of fluids in the pipe. It also reveals a method and device for removing a hydrate obstruction from a tubing, in which a PIG, which is connected to an umbilical extending to the surface, is moved into the tubing as close to the hydrate obstruction and in then a fluid disposed with hydrate dissolving properties is pumped through the umbilical. It is worth mentioning that this document uses a conventional PIG for locomotion inside the duct and a single reagent fluid coming directly from the surface. It does not present the possibility of this PIG receiving two fluids, mixing them generating an exothermic reaction and launching this mixture to dissolve the blockages caused by hydrates. Therefore, this document is different from the subject matter of the present invention.
- US2005217855A1 does not reveal the injection of multiple reagents in a controlled manner, in independent conductors, with control of the cleaning reaction.
- solution A is displaced by one line and solution B by another and are injected into a reactor in a controlled manner directly in the area to be unobstructed.
- the present invention uses a robot, which does not depend on the availability of flow for displacement in the duct to be cleared, control valves and a diffuser to control the reaction, which allows it to act directly on the obstruction.
- US6415722B1 reveals a remote control device with the ability to move inside a pipe or other confined cylindrical volumes, pulling an umbilical and carrying accessories. It basically consists of a body and a crossbar that are equipped with heads. Said heads can be fixed on the inner wall of the conduit or released alternately by means of manual or automatic controls.
- the vehicle has several safety devices to prevent it from getting stuck inside the piping in abnormal situations.
- This invention makes it possible to take tools or materials to a remote point within the pipeline, in order to carry out various operations. It illustrates a remotely controlled locomotion device and is capable of carrying accessories and performing various operations. This document does not reveal the possibility of using independent reagents, mixing them, and the result of this reaction being applied directly to the obstruction to undo it.
- the problem covered by US6415722B1 is also different from the subject matter of the present invention.
- US2007151475A1 discloses a vehicle for locomotion through a duct, comprising a front mooring device and a rear mooring device, each device having a wall mooring mechanism to selectively fix to the duct wall and keep the respective element in place. a stationary position inside the duct. Extensible elements like hydraulic cylinder, connect the front and rear devices generating relative movement between them, which, associated with the mooring system, allows to generate displacement of the set.
- Each mooring mechanism on the wall comprises a plurality of rods extending outside the respective device. Each rod comprises a surface suitable for wall mounting, an independent actuator per rod that drives each leg for coordinated extension within the duct.
- US2007151475A1 Illustrates the function of using a rotary cutter mounted on the front of the vehicle to clear obstructions in the duct. This document also illustrates the use of this locomotion device for other diverse operations.
- the locomotion device illustrated in US2007151475A1 differs in design from that shown in this invention and does not reveal the possibility of receiving chemical reagents, and mixing them promoting the chemical reaction in a controlled manner, using the chemical reaction to dissolve the blockages caused by hydrates and paraffins.
- the problem covered by US2007151475A1 is different from the subject matter of the present invention.
- Figure 3 shows different configurations for the reactor of the present invention
- Figure 4 shows different configurations for the diffuser of the present invention.
- Figure 5 shows an optional configuration for the system of the present invention.
- the marine wells (01) are connected to the Stationary Production Units (UEP) (03) through rigid or flexible ducts (02). Additionally, such units (03) can be connected to other units or to ground stations, also through rigid or flexible ducts (02). Such ducts may, eventually, suffer restrictions or blockages (04), preventing normal production or fluid transfer.
- This system can be seen in detail in figure 1.
- UEP Stationary Production Unit
- UEP Stationary Production Unit
- Such ducts may, eventually, suffer restrictions or blockages (04), preventing normal production or fluid transfer.
- UEP Stationary Production Units
- each solution moves along a hydraulic line, solution A by one line (18) and solution B by another (19) at the same umbilical.
- control valves allow injection of solution A (20) and solution B (21) or block them.
- the released solution or the released solutions move to the reactor (22), where they eventually react. They then pass through a check valve (23), which serves to prevent fluid from entering the line to be unblocked into the reactor. Then they pass through the diffuser (24), which allows fluids to escape to the line.
- the reactor (22) according to the present invention can take several configurations, such as, for example, a random configuration (31), maze (32) or baffles (33), as shown in figure 3.
- the diffuser (24) according to the present invention can also assume different configurations, such as, for example, concentrated diffuser (41) and homogeneous diffuser (42), as shown in figure 4.
- Figure 5 presents an optional configuration for the system, with the lines arriving in a labyrinth type reactor (51). From the reactor, the system passes through the check valve (52) and exits through the diffuser (53).
- the present invention proposes the use of a tool (05), connected to a locomotion device, for example, a robot, with an umbilical cable (06).
- a tool for example, a robot
- an umbilical cable (06)
- Such a tool will provide a controlled reaction in the vicinity of the obstruction in order to removal, using an injection and control system to generate the controlled reaction.
- the solutions A and B used in the present invention can be two components that, working together, generate a highly exothermic reaction, such as sodium nitrite and ammonium chloride in an acidic medium. In this condition, when reacting, the components release heat allowing the hydrate to dissociate when removed from its stability envelope. It can also allow paraffin to dissolve by taking the temperature above TIAC. As there are two pumps (16 and 17) and two valves (20 and 21) to independently control the flow of the components, the process can be controlled through the use of sensors close to the unblocking system, thus avoiding uncontrolled reactions and possible damage to the line to be clear. This prevents, for example, the polymeric layers of the flexible line (02) from being degraded.
- a highly exothermic reaction such as sodium nitrite and ammonium chloride in an acidic medium.
- the components release heat allowing the hydrate to dissociate when removed from its stability envelope. It can also allow paraffin to dissolve by taking the temperature above TIAC.
- the process can be controlled through the use of
- the present invention can also be applied to carry out other reactions, in a controlled manner, inside pipes. Such reactions can be used, in addition to cleaning operations, for controlled injection of corrosion inhibitors, foaming agents, antifoaming agents, etc.
- the reactor (22) can assume different configurations, such as, for example, a random packing configuration (31), baffles (32) or labyrinth (33). In the latter case, sequential mazes can be used to increase the effectiveness of the mixture and reduce the reaction time.
- the diffuser (24) can also assume different configurations, such as, for example, concentrated diffuser (41) and homogeneous diffuser (42).
- the system can optionally have an associated system for identifying the obstruction, for example, by means of a spring and a hall sensor (56). In this case, upon contact with the obstruction, the front of the system compresses the spring and changes the position of the hall sensor. This change in the position of the hall sensor changes the magnetic flux over it and indicates the presence of the obstruction.
- the system can also optionally have a system for shock absorption (55) resulting from the release of the pressure confined by the obstructions.
