Description
FIELD OF TECHNOLOGY
The invention is directed to the field of automotive vehicles, more particularly to the bodywork and exterior lighting of automotive vehicles.
Depending on the model of the vehicle, its bodywork will have different configurations, such as a one-box design, a two-box design, or a three-box design. The three-box vehicle has three pillars, i.e. A, B and C-pillars, on each side of said vehicle, said pillars extending from the vehicle roof to the vehicle underbody. Especially, a C-pillar is extending from the roof to the rear trunk.
All vehicles on public roads comprise various signaling rear lights, including turning indicators, stop lights and position lights.
Prior art patent document published DE 20 2016 103 822 U1 discloses a vehicle comprising turning indicators on its A-pillars. These indicators are surface-radiating lighting means, extending on the entire outer side of the A-pillar, and are preferentially made with electroluminescent diodes of the inorganic type. This teaching takes profit of the extended surface of the A-pillar for mounting a signaling light and for rendering said light well-visible. The integration of the lighting indicator in the bodywork of the vehicle is however limited in that the indicator is merely superimposed to the outer wall of the A-pillar and requires therefore to be particularly thin. Also, it provides a large lighting surface which can be detrimental for the aesthetic of the vehicle.
SUMMARY
The invention has for technical problem to provide a solution to at least one drawback of the above cited prior art. More specifically, the invention has for technical problem to improve the vehicle visibility from its rear end.
For this purpose, the invention is directed to an automotive vehicle comprising: a bodywork of the three-box type with two C-pillars extending backwards from a roof to a rear trunk; and at least one rear light mounted on a rear portion of the bodywork; remarkable in that the at least one rear light is mounted on at least one of the two C-pillars.
According to a preferred embodiment, the at least one C-pillar comprises an outer wall with a depression housing the at least one rear light.

According to a preferred embodiment, each of the at least one rear light extends along more than 50%of a total length of the corresponding C-pillar. The total length of the corresponding C-pillar is measured from a junction of said pillar with the roof and a junction of said pillar with the rear trunk, e.g. at a gutter around an opening of the trunk.
According to a preferred embodiment, each of the at least one rear light is elongate along a main direction of the corresponding C-pillar and comprises an upper lighting portion and a lower trim portion.
According to a preferred embodiment, each of the at least one rear light comprises fastening clips extending from a lower surface of said rear light and engaging with the outer wall of the corresponding C-pillar, in the depression of said outer wall.
According to a preferred embodiment, each of the at least one rear light comprises at a lower portion of said rear light a bracket that attaches to a gutter around an opening of the trunk.
According to a preferred embodiment, the at least one rear light achieves at least one of the following functions, in any combination: tail light, turn indicator, stop light and rear fog light.
The invention is also directed to a rear light for an automotive vehicle, remarkable in that said rear light is elongate with a lighting end portion and a trim remaining portion, configured for being mounted on a C-pillar of a bodywork of said automotive vehicle according to the invention.
According to a preferred embodiment, the rear light comprises: fastening clips extending from a lower surface of said rear light and configured for engaging with the outer wall of the corresponding C-pillar; and at a lower portion of said rear light a bracket configured for attaching to a gutter around an opening of the trunk.
The invention is interesting in that it provides a compromise between the aesthetic and the security of the vehicle. The C-pillars are often substantially wider than the A-pillars and can thereby play a more important role in the aesthetic of the vehicle. The integration of the lights in the C-pillars, i.e. by means of depressions, achieves an improvement in the finishing and perceived quality of the vehicle. The fastening of the rear light is secured by means of a bracket, which is fixed inside (when the trunk lid is closed) and laterally of the vehicle, thus limiting the risk of the light to be stolen. The presence of fastening clips along the lower surface of said rear light enables a good positioning of said light in the corresponding C-pillar housing, and further enables a secure attachment of said light.
