Description
DOUBLE-SIDED ABRASIVE DISC
Technological Area:
The invention relates to double-sided abrasive disc for grinding and/or polishing use in the industry.
Current Status Technically
Many different types of products and apparatus are actually used in the abrasive industry. Abrasives are used for polishing, cleaning, finalizing and giving aesthetic appearance. In addition, corrosion resistance and fracture resistance affects are also available. Therefore, continuous improvements and innovations are made on abrasives.
Flap disc abrasives used in the state of the technic, are one-sided. Abrasive discs are mounted to the hand grinder by the operator and the surface is abraded by abrasive disc by the help of electrical power. In some cases, different grit sizes must be used on the product. In such cases, the operator removes the disc from the machine and mounts a different disc with another grit size. As a result, the process is stopped, and time losses are experienced.
As a result of traditional technical application, used single-sided disc abrasives are shifted to the center of gravity. In this case, problems can be experienced in the process stage in terms of centrifugal forces.
Mentioned issue is reported by following explanation, according to the records by the Turkish Patent and Trademark Register institution related with the Patent Application No. 2009/09595:“The present invention relates to the use of a vulcanized fiber or fiber cardboard or cardboard backing sheet (1) to a further layer (2) having at least one glass fiber web, hot pressing of the two layers connected in the pressing die, and thus forming the center (4) in the center, fixing the nut (5), spreading the binding resin on the concave surface, applying the milling knife elements (11) coated with the sanding material, and pressing the obtained installation in the heated furnace”
The present invention relates to a method of manufacturing an abrasive disc having a single side abrasive.
According to the document, registered as Utilized Model with Register No 2005/01964 in the records of the Turkish Patent and Trade Association“our invention is a variant of channeled and filled (MOP) Flap Wheels used in the processes for sanding and cleaning of metal surfaces. This Flap Disc variation of (MOP, Flap Wheel) is produced with channels (2) which are filled by adhesive resin in and rotative flap layers (I) on the surface.
Our invention is to be mounted to the grinding machine through the hole number (3).
Flap Disc with Channel Filling, due to the channel- shaped sockets are filled in with adhesive resin, differs from others used in the same field. Due to flap layers of other flap discs types are manufactured in the form of direct adhesion to the backing surface there is a risk of explosion at high speed revolution. However, it is mentioned that concerned risk has been eliminated by this invention.
The invention, 2005/01964, relates to a flap disc abrasive, having a single side abrasive surface. It contains filler between the abrasive flaps.
As a result, there is a need for an abrasive disc, in which the prior art is overcome, and its disadvantages are eliminated.
Purpose of the Invention:
The invention is a new disc abrasive having additional advantages, in which the prior art is overcome, the disadvantages are eliminated.
The purpose of the invention is to offer a new abrasive and/or polishing disc, which can be used on both sides with the same grain size on each side of the disc as well as with different grain sizes and variable process abilities.
A further object of the invention is to provide a new abrasive disc in which the operator does not need to change the disc during the process and thus does not experience any loss of time.
• Further object of the invention is to provide a new grinding disc which enables two different etching processes to be performed on a single disc.
• Another object of the invention is to provide a new grinding disc sander which provides ease of use thanks to its flexible structure.
• A further object of the invention is to provide a new grinding disc which can have two abrasive clothes with different grit sizes and to decrease the cost by this way.
• In addition to these features, it is convenient to use a single grinding disc for different products and processes since it is suitable for many different grinding and/or polishing or surface conditioning combinations.
Description of Figures:
The invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying by drawings, thus, the features of the invention will become clearer. However, it is not intended to limit the invention to these particular embodiments. On the contrary, it is also intended to cover all alternative, modification and equivalents which may be included in the scope of the invention as defined by the appended claims.
It should be understood, that shown details are presented solely for the purpose of illustrating preferred embodiments of the present invention and for providing both the shaping of the methods and the most useful and easy-to-understand description of the rules and conceptual features of the invention.

Explanation of the Invention:
The invention, abrasive disc(10), can contain both side, same or different abrasive(12).
The abrasives(12) placed two sides of the disc(l l), may have same or different grain sizes. One side of the abrasive(12) may use to abrasive and other side of the disc may use cleaning or polishing the surface. The process may continue by use two sides of the disc(10) instead of changing other disc. During the process, time losses will be prevented caused changing the disc(10)(fig.l).
The disc(l l) that use in the invention is circle form. It can be plastic or metal. It(10) has a connection hole(ll.l) to connect to the machine. The connecting process is performed by the operator. The invention is use double side of disc abrasive(lO) so it doesn’t need to change the disc(10) in a short time. Most commonly used two(12) type of the abrasive disc, uses by places of two sides. So time loses in the process is minimized. (Fig - 2)
The invention has circular ranked fixing holes(11.2) on the both sides of the disc(l l). The abrasive strips(12.1) respectively placed to the fixing holes(11.2). And these holes(11.2) placed to both sides of the disc(l l)(fig.3).
The abrasive strips(12.1) that located on the disc(l l), may have same or different grain sizes. And also one side of the disc may contain fixing abrasive(12.1) and the other side of the disc may contain felt, sponge or similar tools. In this way, two different operations are finished in one abrasive disc(10).
