Definitions

  • the following disclosure generally relates to apparatus and methods for providing a temporary work surface on a tank shell ladder. More particularly, the following disclosure relates to a lightweight work surface which may be affixed to a tank shell ladder to provide a work surface on which to stand while also able to be readily moved out of the way for ascent or descent on the ladder.
  • Storage tanks typically have pre-existing ladders permanently affixed to permit ascent and descent. These ladders, however, lack work surfaces, particularly a surface on which someone may stand without maintaining a hand on the ladder. Additionally, permanent installation of a work surface creates additional liabilities as third persons may trespass or as the work surface may weaken over time, such as by corrosion. Moreover, the work surface must not interfere with the operation of the ladder, namely ascent and descent.
