Description
Slow closing damper assembly for lids and handles
Technical Field
Invention relates to a damper assembly mechanism, providing slow closing of lids and handles, mainly toilet seat lids (or covers) in the sanitaryware industry, as well as automotive, furniture and all other fields.
State of the Art
Slow closing systems have been developed for toilet seat lids in order to prevent uncontrollably fast, and potentially hazardous shutting during closing action, as well as to minimize user’s contact with the lid and minimize noise during shutting.
Since slow and silent closing of lids and covers are in desire, not only for toilet seats but also in other fields such as automotive and furniture systems, soft closing assemblies have been developed for lids used in various fields.
Mechanisms providing slow closing of mainly toilet seat lids as well as all other lids and handles are equipped with damper assemblies. Said damper assemblies usually have two- part embodiment and lids are gradually slowed down by means of compressing viscous fluid between said two parts.
During the gradual motion of lid, the deceleration expected from closing speed occurs late in the cycle because of two-part embodiment of present damper assemblies. This constitutes obstacle for closing of lid at desired silence level.
In addition, present damper assemblies are susceptible to leakage of viscous fluid through the body, causing failure for damper assembly to perform its function thereby reducing reliability and shortening the life span of the damper assembly.
Literature review indicates technical document numbered TR2015/1 1321 as example for damper assemblies. Said document relates to a mechanism providing slow closing of toilet seat lids. Said mechanism of the invention comprises a two-part embodiment comprising in
general a body having extensions on inner surface and a spindle connected to said body by connection members. However, the life span of such mechanism is short and expected softening in closing motion of the lid is not achieved.
Another example in the related art is the document numbered W02009132589. Said document relates to a damping mechanism providing slow closing of toilet seat lids. Said damping device comprises a shaft having shells on outer surface, a housing member into which shells are inserted and a body into which shaft is located. However, use life of such mechanism is short and expected softening in closing motion of the lid is not achieved.
As a result, the need for above mentioned problems and inadequacy of the existing solutions have made necessary to make a development in the related art.
Purpose of the Invention
This present invention relates to a slow closing damper assembly eliminating above mentioned disadvantages and providing new advantages in the related art.
Primary purpose of the invention is to provide closing speed of the lid in desired softness and eliminate fast closing problems by means of four-part comprising in general a body having viscous fluid therein, a rotor capable to rotated inside the body, an outer lid connected to outer body and gear connected to end of rotor.
Another purpose of the invention is to eliminate leakage of viscous fluid by help of ultrasonic welding connection of said outer lid onto outer body and thus make life span longer.
In order to achieve all of the above mentioned purposes and those that can be stated under detailed description, the invention relates to an assembly providing slow closing of mainly toilet seat lids in sanitaryware sector as well as lids and handles used all other fields. Invention is characterized as being comprised of:
- an outer body containing a slotted canal consisting of slots around on inner surface; filled in with viscous fluid,
- a rotor located in a manner capable to conduct rotation movement inside slotted canal of said outer body and containing a shaft thereon, flaps to guide and compress the viscous fluid between the outer surface of the rotor and the inner surface of the outer body,
- an outer lid located on the outer body in a manner that passes through shaft on the rotor by means of hole in the centre of shaft and connected onto said outer body,
- a gearwheel located on tip of shaft outward from said outer body upper section.
The structural and characteristic features and all advantages of the invention will be understood better in the figures given below and the detailed description by reference to the figures. Therefore, the assessment should be made based on the figures and the detailed descriptions.

Detailed Description of the Invention
In this detailed description, the preferred alternatives of the slow closing damper assembly (A) being subject of this invention have been disclosed solely for the purpose of better understanding of the subject and described in a manner not causing any restrictive effect.
Figures 1 and 2 show bottom and top disassembled view of slow closing damper assembly (A) of the invention. According to it, outer body (10) is in circular form and inner surface has slotted canal (101 ). Said slotted canal (101 ) have slots (102) on the periphery. In addition, outer surface of outer body (10) has housings (103) in longitudinally indented form and said housings (103) contains tabs (104) in extruded form in lower part of the outer body (10).
O-ring (1 1 ) is located inside the outer body (10) in order to prevent viscous fluid leakage.
Rotor (12) is in circular structure matching outer body (10) form and is comprised of one shaft (121 ) and flaps (122) in lower part.
Said rotor (12) is located in slotted canal (101 ) on inner surface of outer body (10) in a manner allowing rotational movement.
An outer lid (13) is installed onto the outer body (10) in a manner passing through shaft (121 ) located on the rotor (12) by means of shaft hole (131 ) in the centre and outer lid (13) is connected by means of ultrasonic welding and combined with the outer body (10). Said outer lid (13) is in circular form matching outer surface outer body (10) and in upward convex structure in the centre.
A gearwheel (14) is fixed onto shaft (121 ) end located on rotor (12) and extended outward from upper part of outer body (10). Said gearwheel (14) can be a gear connected to end of shaft (121 ) on the rotor (12) as well as produced as one piece with rotor (12) without need for connection of a gear as shaft (121 ) on the rotor (12) is in a geared geometry.
Viscous fluid is utilized inside the outer body (10) in order to provide damping during closing action of lid. O-ring (1 1 ) inside outer body (10) and outer lid (13) connected thereon by help of ultrasonic welding makes the slow closing assembly (A) sealing.
Slow closing damper assembly (A) is installed to toilet seat lid or a lid used in other fields by means of a connection apparatus comprising of an outer body (10) and a gearwheel (14), and thus is ready for use. Slow closing damper assembly (A) working principle is as follows:
Gearwheel (14) rotates during closing movement of lid and shaft (121 ) whereto the gearwheel (14) is connected rotates the rotor (12) inside slotted canal (101 ) of the outer body (10). Meanwhile, viscous fluid inside the outer body (10) is compressed by the flaps (122) inside slotted canal (101 ). During that time friction occurring between inner surface of outer body (10) and outer surface of the flaps (122) supports this compression. Rotation movement of rotor (12) is damped and slowed by compression of viscous fluid inside slotted canal (101 ) by means of flaps (122) and friction between inner surface of the outer body (10) and outer surface of rotor (12) flaps (122) and thus slow closing of the lid is provided. At the end of the rotational movement,, viscous fluid inside slotted canal (101 ) flows inside outer body (10) from slots (102) and operation cycle is executed.
