  • Gaming chips can be used in place of currency and credits utilized in wagering and other gaming environments. Chips are typically used on a gaming table, often positioned in stacks of chips. To track transactions and wagering activities at a gaming table, a person can visually count chips located thereon and correlate the identified chips to one or more denominations of currency, of credits, or other values. A gaming table can include hundreds of gaming chips, and, therefore, human-based manual tracking of chips can become prohibitively costly and time consuming. Previous approaches to tracking chips have utilized image recognition systems to monitor table game activity; however, previous systems are not tolerant to partial visual obfuscations of chips or to atypical chip arrangements, and may be incapable of resolving and identifying gaming chips in images when viewed against background imagery.
