Definitions
- the present invention relates to a laundry washer-dryer for recovering the humid air discharged at the drying step.
- the drying process is realized by passing the drying air over the items placed in the drying receptacle.
- drying systems with electric heaters or heat pumps are generally preferred for heating the drying air.
- the resulting humid air is directed to the condenser to generate water and the resulting water is collected in a receptacle or discharged to the outer environment as humid air via a discharge pipe.
- the amount of discharged water may vary depending on the amount of load, it may be up to 5 liters, which causes the water to be wasted.
- the aim of the present invention is the realization of a washer-dryer for recovering the waste humid air.
- the home appliance realized in order to attain the aim of the present invention, explicated in the first claim and the respective claims thereof comprises a tub wherein items are placed for drying and/or washing; an outlet port providing the exit of the processing air from the tub; an inlet port providing the intake of the processing air into the tub; a channel providing the formation of a closed air cycle between the inlet port and the outlet port; a receptacle disposed on the channel; a receptacle; a heater placed close to the receptacle; and a desiccant which is situated inside the receptacle and which is a super absorbent polymer.
- the washer-dryer of the present invention comprises a fan which is positioned at the same vertical axis as the receptacle and which enables the humid air to be delivered from the tub to the condenser via the outlet port on the channel.
- the air is passed through the condenser to generate water and the resulting water is transferred to the receptacle on the channel which is positioned at the same axis.
- the moisture retaining capacity of which is high relative to their unit weights (1,000-100,000%; 10-1000 g/g), in the receptacle it is possible to retain a very high amount of water with respect to other state of the art desiccants, for example zeolite, or to save space by using less amount of space in the receptacle.
- the humid air is prevented from being released to the outer environment.
- the super absorbent polymer reaching the saturation point are regenerated by means of a heater disposed in the vicinity of the receptacle at the same axis and enabled to release the retained water.
- the heater is positioned perpendicular to the air flow to create a homogeneous heat distribution in the receptacle.
- the desiccant is in powder or granule form.
- the moisture retaining capacity of the desiccant increases as the surface area thereof becomes smaller. Thus, a larger amount of water can be easily retained.
- the super absorbent polymers may not reach the saturation point in one cycle.
- a sensor into the receptacle, it can be detected whether the super absorbent polymer reaches the saturation point.
- the sensor can be a weight, level or optical sensor.
- the desiccant material is a super absorbent polymer with a regeneration temperature between 50°C and 100°C.
- the requirement for a powerful heater is eliminated since the desiccant material is regenerated at low temperatures. Consequently, energy saving is provided.
- the glass transition temperature of the desiccant is between 20°C and 40°C.
- the desiccant with low glass transition temperature has high flexibility and thus the porous structure can retain more moisture by expanding.
- Figure 1 - is the schematic view of the laundry washer-dryer of the present invention.
- the laundry washer-dryer (1) comprises a body (2); a drum (3) wherein the laundry is placed; a tub (4) wherein the drum (3) moves; a door (5) which is placed at the front side of the body (2) and which can be opened/closed by the user to load unload the laundry into/from the drum (3); tub outlet port (6) which provides the discharge of the humid air received from the laundry during the drying process; a humid air delivery pipe (7) which extends so as to be outside the tub (4); a fan (8) which draws the humid air from the humid air delivery pipe (7); and a condenser (9) which condenses the air taken from the humid air delivery pipe (7) by means of the fan (8).
- the laundry washer-dryer (1) of the present invention comprises a receptacle (11) which is positioned in the body (2) and which contains therein a desiccant material (12) which is a super absorbent polymer retaining the water condensed in the condenser (9).
- the water generated from the humid air in the condenser (9) is carried through the channel to be directed to the receptacle (11) which contains the desiccant material (12).
- the desiccant material (12) is in powder or granule form.
- the moisture retaining capacity of the desiccant material (12) increases as the surface area thereof becomes smaller. Thus, a larger amount of water can be easily retained.
- the laundry washer-dryer (1) further comprises a heater (10) which is positioned in the vicinity of the receptacle (11) on the channel for regenerating the desiccant material (12).
- a heater (10) which is positioned in the vicinity of the receptacle (11) on the channel for regenerating the desiccant material (12).
- the laundry washer-dryer (1) of the present invention further comprises a sensor (13) which is placed into the receptacle (11) and which detects that the desiccant material (12) has reached the saturation point.
- the senor (13) can be a weight sensor which detects the weight of the desiccant material (12) changing as a result of retaining water.
- the desiccant material (12) used in the laundry washer-dryer (1) of the present invention swells, thus the volume thereof changes, and this change causes the level of the desiccant material (12) in the receptacle (11) to increase.
- the sensor (13) can be a level sensor.
- the desiccant material (12) is a super absorbent polymer with a regeneration temperature between 50°C and 100°C.
- the requirement for a powerful heater (10) is eliminated since the desiccant material (12) is regenerated at low temperatures.
- the need for using high temperature resistant materials is eliminated and material cost is decreased since the temperature the components near the heater (10) are subjected to during the regeneration process decreases.
- the glass transition temperature of the desiccant material (12) is between 20°C and 40°C.
- the desiccant material (12) with low glass transition temperature has high flexibility and thus the porous structure can retain more moisture by expanding.
