Abstract

A hose shroud comprising an elongated outer wall having a plurality of outer segments. The outer segments being interconnected by flexible bridging members. The hose shroud may be compressed lengthwise by engaging the outer segments. The outer segments and bridging members defining together an elongated lumen formed of a spirally wound continuous ribbon which is arranged to receive a plurality of tubular members or hoses in use.

Description

TITLE
“A HOSE SHROUD”
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
[0001] The present invention relates to a hose shroud.
BACKGROUND
[0002] It is known when using a number of hydraulic hoses and lines they are often formed into a bundle of hoses and lines which are connected by clamps or mounting brackets.
[0003] The bundles are formed to keep the workspace clear and the hoses or lines untangled.
[0004] The clamps and mounting brackets used to form a bundle of hoses or lines can work to increase wear on the hoses or lines as the clamps and mounting brackets may act as friction points that rub against outer casings of the hoses or lines. It is also known that rock fragments or swarf can become engaged with the bundle where they cause premature wear through damage to the outer casing of the hoses or lines.
[0005] It is known that hydraulic hoses or lines may also present significant danger to personnel. Failure of an outer casing may occur whereby the contents of hoses or lines, which are kept under pressure, are explosively released. In industrial high- pressure applications this has been known to cause significant injury and even death.
[0006] The present invention provides a hose shroud which attempts to overcome at least in part the afore-mentioned disadvantages of the prior art.

(Rule 26) RO/AU SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
[0007] In accordance to one aspect of the present invention there is provided a hose shroud comprising an elongated outer wall comprising a plurality of outer segments.
[0008] Further, the outer segments may be interconnected by flexible bridging members.
[0009] Thus, the hose shroud may be compressed lengthwise, by engaging adjacent outer segments. Alternatively, the hose shroud may be stretched by spacing the outer segments apart so that they are retained in place by the flexible bridging members.
[0010] The segments and bridging members preferably define together an elongated lumen. The lumen is arranged to receive a plurality of tubular members or hoses in use.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DRAWINGS
[0011] The present invention will now be described by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
[0012] Figure 1 is a perspective outer view of an outer casing of a hose shroud in accordance with the present invention;
[0013] Figure 2 is a schematic side elevation of the hose shroud of figure 1 ; showing the outer casing being wrapped spirally around a bundle of hoses or lines;
[0014] Figure 3 is a schematic perspective view of an end of the hose shroud of figure 2 wrapped around a bundle of hoses or lines.
[0015] Figure 4 is an enlarged side view of part of the hose shroud of figure 2 in bent condition showing engagement between segments and bridging members:
[0016] Figure 5 is a side view of the hose shroud (10) of figure 4;

(Rule 26) RO/AU DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
[0017] In the accompanying drawings, it can be seen that the hose shroud (10) comprises to the plurality of outer segments (12) which are contiguous to one another when the hose shroud is compressed as shown in figure 6. It can be seen that flexible bridging members (14) extend laterally from a joint (16) of an outer wall formed by the outer segments (12).
[0018] Further, it can be seen in figure 8 that the outer segments (12) each have an end portion with a lateral groove (18) formed therein.
[0019] Still further, it can be seen in figure 8, when the hose shroud (10) is compressed the outer segments (12) each have a respective lateral groove (18) engaged with an adjacent end of the hose shroud (10).
[0020] As shown the segments (12) have outer surfaces which are ridged outwardly at lateral intermediate points (20) and correspondingly have inner surfaces which are grooved at corresponding lateral intermediate points (22).
[0021] On the other hand, as shown in figure 7 when the hose shroud (10) is stretched the segments (12) move away from one another and the bridging members (14) are spaced apart from one another.
[0022] As shown in figure 8, the bridging members (14) are connected at joints (18) to the adjacent segment but are disconnected at the opposite end such there is no impediment to keeping the hose shroud (10) short.
[0023] As can best be seen in figure 7, each segment (12) has a first end (30) which is grooved at (18) and a second end (32) which projects outwardly. The first ends (30) are arranged to engage with an adjacent end of a bridging member (14) when the hose shroud (10) is compressed. In this way the components of the hose shroud (10) are
3
Substitute Sheet
(Rule 26) RO/AU able to lock together. The second ends (32) extend to the next adjacent bridging member (14).
[0024] As can be seen in figure 7, when the hose shroud (10) is stretched the first ends (30) are spaced apart from the adjacent end of the bridging members (14). However, the second ends (32) of the segments (12) are still engaged with adjacent ends of a bridging member (14).
[0025] As can be seen in figure 4, when the hose shroud (10) is bent the bridging members (14) extend from the connection of the segments (12) laterally of the hose shroud (10). Inner segments (12) are in engagement with one another whilst the outer segments (12) are spaced apart from one another by intervening bridging members
(14).
[0026] Further, the hose shroud (10) of the present invention may be formed from flexible plastics material such as polyurethane.
[0027] Modifications and variations such as would be apparent to a skilled addressee are deemed to be within the scope of the present invention.
[0028] Thus, it can be seen that regardless of the configuration of the hose shroud (10) shown in figures 1 to 9, there are no gaps in the outer wall of the hose shroud (10). The outer wall of the hose shroud (10) is formed by segments (12) which form a spiral wrap arranged to engage the outer wall of the hose shroud (10). Further, each gap between segments (12) is closed off by bridging members (14).
[0029] Figure 9 is a view similar to figure 7 showing the adjacent end similar to figure 7 when the hose shroud (10) is bent.
