Definitions
- the present invention relates to a fuel cell system, in particular an SOFC system for mobile use.
- the invention further relates to a method for operating a fuel cell system and to a motor vehicle with such a fuel cell system.
- Generic fuel cell systems have a fuel cell stack with an anode section and a cathode section for electrical power generation.
- anode exhaust gas recirculation for reusing anode exhaust gas in the anode section is known.
- a feedback fan is also arranged in a return circuit of the fuel cell system, by means of which anode exhaust gas can be conveyed from an anode outlet back towards an anode inlet of the anode section.
- a fuel cell system with an anode exhaust gas recirculation is known from international patent application WO 2017/037197 A1.
- anode exhaust gas is conveyed out of the anode outlet via a recirculation blower or a pump back towards the anode inlet of the anode section.
- anode exhaust gas has a temperature of approximately 500 ° C.
- the recirculation blower arranged downstream of the anode section or a corresponding pump must therefore have high-quality, correspondingly heat-resistant components.
- the feedback blowers or pumps used are therefore relatively expensive.
- the object of the present invention is to at least partially take into account the problem described above.
- a fuel cell system comprising at least one fuel cell stack with an anode section and a cathode section, an anode supply section for supplying reformed anode supply gas from a reformer to the anode section, the reformer for reforming reformer supply gas, a reformer supply section for supplying the reformer supply gas to the reformer, and an anode return section for returning anode exhaust gas for reuse in the anode section.
- the fuel cell system also has a heat exchanger with a first fluid guiding section for guiding the anode exhaust gas and a second fluid guiding section for guiding the reformer feed gas, the first fluid guiding section and the second fluid guiding section within the heat exchanger, at least in sections, for heat transfer between the anode exhaust gas and the reformer feed gas are in heat-transferring connection with one another.
- the fuel cell system also has a fan section downstream of the first fluid guide section and upstream of the second fluid guide section with a recirculation fan arranged therein for guiding the anode exhaust gas from the first fluid guide section via the fan section to the second fluid guide section.
- the fuel cell system has a cooling fluid guide section for supplying a cooling fluid into the fan section upstream of the return fan for cooling the anode exhaust gas in the fan section upstream of the return fan.
- a fuel source is arranged upstream of the heat exchanger, an evaporator for evaporating fuel from the fuel source being integrated in the heat exchanger.
- the fuel cell system can comprise one, two, three or more fuel cell stacks, which can be arranged as desired relative to one another and to other elements of the fuel cell system.
- fuel cell stacks are to be understood as stacks.
- Cooling fluid can be added to the anode exhaust gas in the blower section upstream of the return blower through the cooling fluid guide section. This can the anode exhaust gas is cooled upstream of the recirculation fan. After the cooled anode exhaust gas or the appropriately tempered anode exhaust gas / cooling fluid mixture / cooling fluid mixture has been conveyed further through the return fan through the second fluid guide section, the anode exhaust gas can additionally be cooled in the first fluid guide section by the heat exchanger.
- the first fluid guide section accordingly corresponds to a hot side of the heat exchanger and the second fluid guide section corresponds to a cold side of the heat exchanger.
- This two-stage cooling process makes it possible to reduce the temperature of the anode exhaust gas at the recirculation fan from around 500 ° C up to 300 ° C.
- a recirculation fan with correspondingly cheaper components with regard to the required flash protection can be used.
- Another advantage of the present fuel cell system is achieved in that the anode exhaust gas is already cooled in the first fluid guide section. This can reduce the risk of self-ignition, which could occur when hot anode exhaust gas meets the cooling fluid, which is provided, for example, in the form of ambient air.
- the enthalpy can be used to pickle the fuel in order to reduce the outlet temperature of the fluid mixture from the second fluid guide section. Accordingly, as mentioned above, the enthalpy can be used to cool the anode exhaust gas which is passed through the first fluid guide section of the heat exchanger.
- the system arrangement according to the invention enables the fuel to be heated or evaporated in an efficient manner and the anode exhaust gas to be cooled. This efficiency results in the possibility of a particularly compact construction of this component group.
- the temperature of the anode exhaust gas can be reduced to up to 150 ° C. with the construction according to the invention at the inlet of the recirculation fan. It was thus possible to achieve such low temperatures at the fluid outlet of the recirculation fan that the anode exhaust gas / cooling fluid mixture no longer condenses in this area. This also leads to improved operation of the fuel cell system.
- Another advantage of the system structure according to the invention results from the fact that no fuel has to be conveyed through the recirculation fan during the operation of the fuel cell system. If fuel were conveyed through the recirculation fan, an oxygen-to-carbon ratio (O / C ratio) upstream of the recirculation fan would not be in the desired ratio. This could lead to carbon deposition in the anode feed section. Evaporation takes place in the heat exchanger downstream of the recirculation fan. The desired amount of air or oxygen is already there, so that the desired O / C ratio is also available.
- O / C ratio oxygen-to-carbon ratio
- the evaporator is configured to add the fuel vaporized therein to the anode exhaust gas / cooling fluid mixture.
- These fluid components also have the reformer supply gas, that is to say anode exhaust gas, cooling fluid, in particular in the form of ambient air, and vaporized fuel.
- the fact that the evaporator is integrated in the heat exchanger can be understood to mean that the heat exchanger is designed integrally or as a component unit with the evaporator.
- the evaporator does not have to be designed as an internal component of the heat exchanger or completely enclosed by the heat exchanger.
- the fuel source is preferably designed in the form of a separate fuel tank. That is, the fuel source is preferably not provided as part of a fuel recirculation line but as a separate fuel source.
- the fuel tank is designed in particular as a fuel tank for pure or predominantly pure hydrocarbon-containing liquid fuel.
- a pump or a metering device for supplying the fuel to the evaporator is preferably arranged downstream of the fuel source.
- the cooling fluid guide section can therefore be understood as an air guide section for supplying air, in particular ambient air, or another oxygen-containing gas into the fan section upstream of the recirculation fan.
- the first fluid guide section and the second fluid guide section are arranged parallel or substantially parallel to one another for heat transfer with respect to a direction of flow through the fluid guide sections.
- the heat can be transported from the hot anode exhaust gas in the first fluid guide section in the direction of the colder anode exhaust gas / cooling fluid mixture and vice versa over the longest possible distance in the heat exchanger, and a correspondingly effective cooling effect for the anode exhaust gas can be achieved in the first fluid guide section.
- the second fluid guide section is preferably arranged directly downstream of the recirculation fan and directly upstream of the reformer.
- the recirculation fan is to be understood as a gas recirculation unit for recirculating or supporting the recirculation of the anode exhaust gas for reuse in the anode section.
- the return fan can also be designed as a return pump.
- the blower section can also be understood as a pump section.
- the first fluid guide section and the second fluid guide section are at least partially directly or indirectly in heat-transferring connection within the heat exchanger.
- a direct heat-transferring connection can be realized in that a first line section wall of the first fluid guide section bears directly against a second line section wall of the second fluid guide section.
- an air gap and / or a solid, heat-conducting material section can also be configured between the line section walls.
- a merging section is preferably located upstream of the return blower. blower arranged for easy merging of the anode exhaust with the cooling fluid.
- the second fluid guide section is designed to at least partially guide the reformer supply gas.
- the reformer supply gas is conducted in particular in a rear section of the second fluid guide section, the rear section of the second fluid guide section being located downstream of a front section of the second fluid guide section.
- the front section of the second fluid guide section is designed in particular for guiding the anode exhaust gas / cooling fluid mixture.
- the heat exchanger is preferably designed as a plate-shaped heat exchanger. This design has proven to be a particularly space-saving variant of a heat exchanger that can be easily integrated into the present system.
- a fuel cell system it is possible for a fuel cell system to have a cathode gas blower upstream of the cooling fluid guide section for supplying the cooling fluid in the form of cathode supply gas to the cooling fluid guide section.
- the cathode supply gas is preferably to be understood as air, in particular ambient air or another oxygen-containing fluid, which is conveyed in the direction of the cathode section by the cathode gas blower during operation of the fuel cell system. Accordingly, the cathode gas blower can be operated with a double function.
- the second fluid guide section in a fuel cell system according to the present invention, it is possible for the second fluid guide section to have a first fluid inlet for introducing the returned anode exhaust gas and / or the cooling fluid into the second fluid guide section, and a second fluid inlet for introducing vaporized fuel into the second Fluid guide section, and a fluid outlet for discharging a fluid mixture in the form of the reformer supply gas from the recirculated anode exhaust gas, the cooling fluid and / or the vaporized fuel, wherein a porous separation layer is formed within the second fluid conduit section, through which vaporized fuel for mixing with the recirculated Ano - denabgas and / or the cooling fluid is flowable.
- the evaporated fuel can be mixed particularly evenly with the anode exhaust gas / cooling fluid mixture during the operation of the fuel cell system by simple structural measures within the second fluid guide section.
- the first fluid guide section and the second fluid guide section within the heat exchanger are designed to run the anode exhaust gas and the reformer supply gas in opposite directions, at least in sections, in opposite directions to one another. Due to the opposite arrangement, the fluid line system can be provided in the fuel cell system in a particularly space-saving manner. In addition, fluid dynamic advantages can be achieved by the opposite arrangement.
- the first fluid guide section and the second fluid guide section are arranged in opposite directions such that the anode exhaust gas in the first fluid guide section and the anode exhaust gas / cooling fluid mixture and / or the reformer supply gas or reformer supply fluid in the second fluid guide section in operation of the fuel cell system are in opposite or at least oblique to one another flowing directions flow inside the heat exchanger.
- a fork section is arranged in the anode return section for branching off part of the anode exhaust gas in the direction of the first fluid guide section and another part of the anode exhaust gas in the direction of an afterburner of the fuel cell system.
- the anode exhaust gas can be used in a simple manner both for the recycle in question for reuse in the anode section and for combustion in the afterburner and thus for temperature control of the fuel cell system or selected components thereof.
- the fork section can be understood as a suitable 3-way valve.
- a T-piece can advantageously also be provided, by means of which the anode exhaust gas divides up in accordance with a suppression caused by the anode recirculation fan.
- the fork section upstream of the first fluid guide section By arranging the fork section upstream of the first fluid guide section, only the part of the anode exhaust gas is cooled on the heat exchanger. The part that is directed towards the afterburner remains at the original high temperature level. A particularly advantageous temperature management is thereby achieved.
- approx. 35% can be of the anode exhaust gas in the direction of the first fluid guide section and approximately 65% of the anode exhaust gas in the direction of the afterburner.
- the fork section is preferably arranged directly downstream of the anode section and directly upstream of the first fluid guide section of the heat exchanger.
- a method for operating a fuel cell system as described above is provided, the anode exhaust gas being simultaneously sucked through the first fluid guide section by means of the return fan or a corresponding pump and then connected via the return fan through the second fluid guide section, and the cooling fluid is conveyed in the direction of the reformer via the return fan through the second fluid guide section.
- a method according to the invention thus brings with it the same advantages as have been described in detail with reference to the fuel cell system according to the invention.
- the extended cooling functions described above can be used in the context of the method for cooling the line section upstream of the recirculation fan.
- fuel is evaporated by the evaporator integrated in the heat exchanger, while anode exhaust gas is conveyed through the second fluid guide section in the direction of the reformer by means of the recirculation fan.
- the cooling fluid can be conveyed through the cathode gas blower in the form of ambient air from the environment of the fuel cell system into the cooling fluid guide section.
- Ambient air is readily available and has the desired oxygen content for the necessary work processes in the fuel cell system.
- the process can be implemented particularly easily and inexpensively using ambient air.
- ambient air is supplied in a temperature range between 40 ° C. and 80 ° C., in particular at approximately 60 ° C.
- the ambient air which is generally lower than 40 ° C., can be efficiently increased to the desired temperature by compressing it by means of the cathode gas blower.
- fuel is supplied to the evaporator from the fuel source, which fuel contains predominantly, in particular more than 80%, hydrocarbon-containing fuel. That is, the present fuel cell system is preferably operated with pure or essentially pure fuel, and not with a fuel-water mixture, as is implemented in other, non-generic fuel cell systems.
- the supply of pure fuel or essentially pure fuel can be implemented relatively easily in comparison to a supply of fuel mixture.
- a predominantly hydrocarbon-containing fuel is to be understood as meaning fuel which has more than 50% of hydrocarbon-containing fuel.
- a motor vehicle is provided with a fuel cell system for providing electrical energy as explained in detail above and at least one electric motor for driving the motor vehicle using at least partial use of the electrical energy provided by the fuel cell system.
- the fuel cell system is further configured and configured to carry out a method as described above.
