Abstract
The present invention relates to an iron (1) enabling cold steam to be discharged without being affected from base (2) temperature, characterized by a steam outlet (4) provided on the base (2) so as to enable transmitting steam received from a steam chamber (H) to the surface desired to be ironed, and at least partially thermally insulated from the hot zone (3).
Description
The present invention relates to an iron and particularly to an iron with cold steam function.
Many textile products such as clothes, curtains and the like may wrinkle after being washed or used. These fabrics are ironed to remove such wrinkles, to shape the fabrics and to maintain the given shapes. Hydrogen bonds between fibers are broken by humidifying the fabric desired to be ironed, and these bonds are re-oriented by passing hot iron base over the fabric. Fibers should be humidified to effectively remove wrinkles. Humidification is performed by applying steam or spraying water on the fabric.
Irons with steamers capable of transmitting high amounts of steam are developed due to high efficiency of steam in wrinkle removal. In most of such irons, steam at approximately 100 °C is discharged from an iron. A portion of the high temperature and high density steam discharged from an iron, is dispersed in the environment of the iron. This leads to wasting of the used water and energy consumed to generate steam, and increases the temperature and humidity of the iron's environment. Therefore, irons are needed, enabling ironing to be performed by using steam of lower temperatures.
State of the art Japanese patent document no. JP2001113099 mentions an iron enabling generating steam in mist form by using ultrasonic waves.
State of the art European patent document no. EP2418318 mentions an iron in which air flow is provided to convey steam generated by using ultrasonic waves.
Cold steam generated in state of the art irons, heats due to temperature of the iron's base, which in turn leads to the above-mentioned losses.
None of the state of the art documents include a solution such as the one in the present invention.
The aim of the present invention is to realize an iron enabling cold steam to be discharged without being affected from the temperature of its base.
The iron realized to achieve the aims of the present invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein:

The iron (1) enabling cold steam to be discharged without being affected from the region with high temperature on its base (2), comprises in its most basic form
- at least one base (2) rubbed over a region desired to be ironed, enabling said region to be ironed,
- at least one hot zone (4) forming at least a portion of the base (2), whose temperature is adjustable according to features of the surface to be ironed, and
- at least one steam outlet (4) provided on the base (2) so as to enable transmitting steam received from a steam chamber (H) to the surface desired to be ironed, and at least partially thermally insulated from the hot zone (3).
In its most basic form, the iron (1) enabling cold steam to be discharged without being affected from region with high temperature on its base (2), comprises at least one base (2) rubbed over a region desired to be ironed, enabling said region to be ironed. Said base (2) may be made of, but not limited to, any of the state of the art material such as stainless steel or ceramic or one that may be developed in the future. At least a region of the base (2) can be heated when desired. This heatable region is referred to as the hot zone (4). The iron (1) may be used by heating the hot zone (3) or without heating the hot zone (3) depending on the features of the surface to be ironed. Cold steam which may be conveyed from a steam chamber (H) by means of a tube (B), is transmitted to the surface desired to be ironed by means of at least one steam outlet (4). Separating the steam outlet (4) and the hot zone (3) enables the heat transfer in between to be at least partially inhibited, thereby at least partially thermally insulating the hot zone (3) and steam outlet (4) from each other. Thus, cold steam is not heated by the hot zone (3) and dispersion of cold steam is therefore delimited. The steam outlet (4) can be positioned anywhere on the base (2) provided that it is isolated from the hot zone (3).
In an embodiment of the invention, the steam outlet (4) extends along at least a portion of the base (2) boundary. In this embodiment, when a user moves the iron (1), cold steam is first applied to the region desired to be ironed, and this region is heated by the hot zone (3) afterwards. Naturally, it is apparent that heating is to be performed when the temperature of the hot zone (3) is higher than the temperature of the region being ironed.
In another embodiment of the invention, the steam outlet (4) may be disposed on a front portion of the base (2). In this embodiment, when a user pushed the iron (1) forwards, cold steam is first applied to the region desired to be ironed, and this region is heated by the hot zone (3) afterwards.
In another embodiment of the invention, the steam outlet (4) may be disposed on at least one side of the base (2) but preferably at least one steam outlet (4) is disposed on each one of two sides of the base (2). In this embodiment, when a user moves the iron (1) sideways, cold steam is first applied to the region desired to be ironed, and this region is heated by the hot zone (3) afterwards.
In an embodiment of the invention, the steam outlet (4) has a plurality of orifices allowing steam to exit therethrough. Generated steam is directed to the orifices. Homogeneous distribution of said orifices enables homogeneous dispersion of steam on the surface desired to be ironed.
The iron (1) of the invention enables transmitting cold steam to the region to be ironed, thereby facilitating wrinkle removal. Since cold steam is at least partially thermally insulated from the hot zone (3), steam temperature does not increase and generated steam is thus transmitted to the desired region with high efficiency. Thus, the iron (1) of the invention saves energy and water, and does not cause the ironing environment temperature and humidity to increase.
