Abstract
The present invention relates to a dual outlet pump (1) for horizontal drum washing machines and washer-dryers, comprising one body (2), at least one water line (placed on the body (2), enabling water intake, at least one impeller (3) placed in the body (2) and positioned eccentrically in the body (2), at least one actuator enabling the impeller (3) to rotate, a control unit adapted to control the actuator, at least one opening (4) opened on the surface of the body (2), at least one jet line (5) connected to the opening (4) and at least one discharge line (6) connected to the opening (4).
Description
The present invention relates to a dual outlet pump for horizontal drum washing machines and washer-dryers, capable of both discharging and jetting by using a single motor.
At least one pump (discharge pump) is used in horizontal drum washing machines. In many washing machines, one more pump (jet pump/circulation pump) is used along with a discharge pump. This pump enables water circulation in the machine during washing and rinsing steps. In other terms, the main washing or rinsing water descending to the lower portion of the tub due to gravity is transmitted back on textiles by means of the jet pump. Using a jet pump significantly saves water because the washing process is performed by continuously circulating already intaken water instead of regularly drawing water from the mains.
These two pumps are used independently and at separate times. When the washing process is completed and water is to be discharged, the discharge pump activates, enabling discharging water from the machine.
State of the art patent document no. DE3442907 mentions transmitting water to respective locations from a single inlet and a single outlet by means of a motor rotatable in clockwise and counter-clockwise directions. A barrier blocks the water in order to enable all of the water to advance to the pump outlet during rotation of the blades in the respective direction. The system operates using the same logic when the impeller rotates in the other direction. Water does not redundantly circulate within the system and can be directed directly to the outlet. However, it is mentioned in said patent document that water can be directed to the single outlet with minimum loss by means of the guide element positioned on the axis by enabling the motor to rotate in two separate directions.
State of the art patent document no. EP1403521 mentions transmitting water to respective locations from a single inlet and two separate outlets by means of a motor rotatable in clockwise and counter-clockwise directions. Switch valves enable blocking water from advancing into the channel not being used during rotation of the pump in a respective direction. However, said patent document mentions transmitting water to respective locations from a single inlet and two separate outlets by means of a motor rotatable in clockwise and counter-clockwise directions. Switch valves enable blocking water from advancing into the channel not being used during rotation of the pump in a respective direction.
The aim of the present invention is to realize a dual outlet pump not requiring two separate pump systems and valves and thereby having a low production cost.
The other aim of the present invention is to realize a dual outlet pump preventing water from being introduced into a duct while water is being pumped to the other duct.
A dual outlet pump realized to achieve the aims of the present invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Figure 1: is a side sectional view of the dual outlet pump.

The dual outlet pump (1) for horizontal drum washing machines and washer-dryers, comprises in its most basic form,
- at least one body (2),
- at least one water line placed on the body (2), enabling water intake,
- at least one impeller (3) placed in the body (2),
- at least one actuator enabling the impeller (3) to move rotationally,
- a control unit adapted to control the actuator,
- at least one opening (4) opened on the surface of the body (2),
- at least one jet line (5) connected to the opening (4),
- at least one discharge line (6) connected to the opening (4).
The dual outlet pump (1) of the invention is for horizontal drum washing machines and washer-dryers, and comprises a cylindrical body (2). A water line is connected on the body (2). The water line enables water intake to the body (2). An impeller (3) is provided, placed in the body (2) and positioned so as not to be concentric with the body (2). The impeller (3) is capable of rotational motion. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the impeller (3) is positioned eccentrically in the body (2). The impeller (3) is capable of circularly rotating by means of the actuator about the point where it is connected in the body (2) in both clockwise and counter-clockwise directions. A control unit is provided for the actuator to rotate the impeller (3) in desired direction and revolutions. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, at least one blade (31) extends from the impeller (3) to convey the water in the body (2). In a preferred embodiment of the invention, four blades (31) extend from the impeller (3). An opening (4) is opened on the body (2) to enable water discharge. The opening (4) is eccentrically opened on the cylindrical surface of the body (2) with respect to the position of the blade (31). In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the opening (4) is provided on the lower portion of the body (2) with respect to gravity. A jet line (5) is connected on the opening (4). The jet line (5) is shaped as a tapering duct and its narrower portion is connected to the opening (4). The wide portion of the jet line (5) extends upwards in opposite direction to gravity. A discharge line (6) is connected on the opening (4). The discharge line (6) is shaped as an expanding duct and its wider portion is connected to the opening (4). The narrower portion of the discharge line (6) extends upwards in opposite direction to gravity.
The dual outlet pump (1) of the invention is able to pump water to both the discharge line (6) and the jet line (5) in horizontal drum washing machines and washer-dryers. A dual outlet pump (1) is thus realized which does not require two separate pump systems and valves and thereby has a low production cost.
When it is intended to pump water to the discharge line (6), the actuator rotates the impeller (3) in clockwise direction upon the command sent by the control unit. Upon rotation of the impeller (3) in clockwise direction, the water introduced to the body (2) by the water line is conveyed to the opening (4) by the blade (31) connected to the impeller (3). The propeller force provided by the blade (31) enables directing the water from the opening to the discharge line (6). Water is not introduced to the jet line (5) while the water is being directed directly to the discharge line (6) due to the eccentric position of the impeller (3) in the body (2) and the eccentric position of the opening (4) opened on the body (2). The geometry of the dual outlet pump (1) enables water to advance through a single water line.
When it is intended to pump water to the jet line (5), the actuator rotates the impeller (3) in counter-clockwise direction upon the command sent by the control unit. Upon rotation of the impeller (3) in counter-clockwise direction, the water introduced to the body (2) by the water line is conveyed to the opening (4) by the blade (31) connected to the impeller (3). The propeller force provided by the blade (31) enables directing the water from the opening to the jet line (5). Water is not introduced to the discharge line (6) while the water is being directed directly to the jet line (5) due to the eccentric position of the impeller (3) in the body (2) and the eccentric position of the opening (4) opened on the body (2). The geometry of the dual outlet pump (1) enables water to advance through a single water line.
