The washing machine (20) comprises a tub (2) in which washing – drying processes are performed, and a drum (3) rotating in the tub (2), in which laundry items are placed.
The liquid detergent and softener dosing system (1) (hereinafter referred to as the “dosing system (1)”) suitable for use in the washing machine (20), comprises a detergent drawer (6) having a first chamber (4) in which liquid detergent is stored, and a second chamber (5) in which softener is stored, a housing (7) or a “detergent box” in which the detergent drawer (6) is placed, a tub outlet (8) provided below the housing (7), enabling the liquid detergent and the softener ( hereinafter both referred to as “liquid”) collected on its base by being dosed, to be swept by water and to be sent to the tub (2), a hydraulic pump (9) enabling the liquids stored in the detergent drawer (6) to be transferred into the housing (7) by being dosed in order to be sent to the washing environment in the tub (2) in predetermined amounts for the main washing and rinsing processes, and a control valve (10) enabling flow conduction between the detergent drawer (6) and the hydraulic pump (9), allowing liquid flow from the detergent drawer (6) to the hydraulic pump (9) when the detergent drawer (6) is placed in the housing (7), and blocking liquid flow from the detergent drawer (6) to the hydraulic pump (9) when the detergent drawer (6) is drawn out of the housing (7).
The dosing system (1) of the invention comprises
- a liquid detergent outlet (11) through which liquid detergent flow from the first chamber (4) is realized in order to be dosed and a softener outlet (12) through which softener flow from the second chamber (5) is realized in order to be dosed, both provided in the detergent drawer (6), and
- a flow guidance mechanism (13) provided between the liquid detergent outlet (11), the softener outlet (12) and the control valve (10), enabling only the liquid detergent or only the softener to be sent to the same hydraulic pump (9) in order to be dosed in different times according to the steps of a washing process.
The flow guidance mechanism (13) whose operation is regulated by a control unit (not shown in the figures), directs the liquid detergent or the softener to the hydraulic pump (9) in order to be dosed according to the steps of a washing process, e.g. according to the main washing step in which liquid detergent is used, or the rinsing step in which softener is used. In the main washing step in which liquid detergent is used, the flow guidance mechanism (13) blocks the softener flow and enables only the liquid detergent to be directed by means of the control valve (10) to the hydraulic pump (9) in order to be dosed. Whereas in the rinsing step in which softener is used, the flow guidance mechanism (13) blocks the liquid detergent flow and enables only the softener to be directed by means of the control valve (10) to the hydraulic pump (9) in order to be dosed.
In an embodiment of the invention, the flow guidance mechanism (13) comprises a solenoid valve (14) with two inlets and one outlet, with one of the inlets connected to the liquid detergent outlet (11), and the other inlet connected to the softener outlet (12), and the single outlet connected to the inlet of the control valve (10) (Figure 2).
In another embodiment of the invention, the flow guidance mechanism (13) comprises
- a fork-pipe (15) whose two separate inlets are connected to the liquid detergent outlet (11) and the softener outlet (12), and whose single outlet is connected to the inlet of control valve (10), and
- a flap (16) with two positions, provided in said fork-pipe (15), allowing only the liquid detergent to flow through the control valve (10) to the hydraulic pump (9) in its first position by blocking softener flow, and allowing only the softener to flow through the control valve (10) to the hydraulic pump (9) in its second position by blocking liquid detergent flow (Figure 4, Figure 5).
In an embodiment of the invention, the hydraulic pump (9) enabling dosing liquid detergent and softener, is of the geared pump type constituted by a cooperating drive gear (17) and a driven gear (18) (Figure 7).
In another embodiment of the invention, the hydraulic pump (9) comprises a water wheel (19) rotating due to the dynamic pressure of the water received from outside, and enabling the hydraulic pump (9) to operate without using electricity by transmitting its rotational motion to the drive gear (17) (Figure 8).
The control unit regulates the operation of the solenoid valve (14) or the flap (16) in the flow guidance mechanism (13) for dosing liquid detergent or softener. The solenoid valve (14) or the flap (16) directs liquid detergent to the hydraulic pump (9) in order to be dosed through the path of the first chamber (4) - the liquid detergent outlet (11) - control valve (10) in predetermined times and amounts. Likewise, the solenoid valve (14) or the flap (16) directs softener to the hydraulic pump (9) in order to be dosed through the path of the second chamber (5) - the softener outlet (12) - control valve (10) in predetermined times and amounts.
In the dosing system (1) of the invention, liquid detergent and softener are transferred to the washing environment in the tub (2) by being dosed in a precise manner. A single control valve (10) and a single hydraulic pump (9) is used for both liquid detergent and softener. Instead of electricity, the hydraulic pump (9) used for dosing, is driven by a water wheel (19) rotated by the water received from outside, decreasing the cost of the system.
