A hair treatment composition and method which includes, a base substance selected to include occlusive properties, having dispersed therein; a first vegetable oil; an essential oil; a scalp stimulant for stimulating the scalp; a wax; an antioxidant; a hair supplement; an emollient; lauric acid and a second vegetable oil and a method of using same.

Description

HAIR TREATMENT COMPOSITION AND METHOD
Technical field
This invention relates to a hair and/or scalp treatment composition and a method for the manufacture of same.
Background
In general, mammalian skin is hirsute which can serve many functions such as heat retention. In humans however, scalp hair also serves as a means of adornment. Consequently, hair and/or scalp treatment, promoting healthy hair growth and condition is sought after by many people.
In humans, hair growth is usually cyclic, wherein each strand of hair, independent of another, goes through periods of growth and shedding which is followed by regrowth of a new strand of hair. However, in some cases and for various reasons, regrowth may not occur leading to alopecia, balding and/or little hair.
Further in humans, hair condition may be negatively affected by various factors such as hormones, heat, chemical treatment, dryness and the like which make its appearance undesirable.
Conventional hair and/or scalp treatments can often be expensive and/or ineffective in alleviating the above-mentioned problems.
It is an object of the present invention to alleviate at least some of the disadvantages mentioned above.
Summary of the invention
It is to be understood that for the purposes of this specification that percentage fraction shall be interpreted as weight by weight (w/w) percentages. According to a first aspect of the invention there is provided a hair treatment composition which includes: - a base substance, having dispersed therein;
a first vegetable oil;
an essential oil; a scalp stimulant;
a wax;
an antioxidant; a hair supplement;
an emollient;
lauric acid; and a second vegetable oil.
The base substance may be selected to include occlusive properties. The base substance may constitute between 75% to 90% of the hair treatment composition, preferably being 83%. The base substance may be in the form of any one or more selected from the group including, liquid paraffin, petroleum jelly, petrolatum jelly and paraffin wax. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the base substance may be a mixture of liquid paraffin, petroleum jelly and paraffin wax. The mixture may constitute 40% to 45% of liquid paraffin, preferably being 44.3%, 30% to 35% of petroleum jelly, preferably being 34.6%, and 3% to 5% of paraffin wax, preferably being 4.1%.
The first vegetable oil may constitute 1% to 3% of the hair treatment composition, preferably being 2.5%. The first vegetable oil may include castor oil. The essential oil may be selected to promote increased blood flow in a user’s scalp. In particular, the essential oil may be selected to promoted increased blood flow to hair follicles, thereby promoting hair growth. The essential oil may constitute 1% to 3% of the hair treatment composition, preferably being 2.5%. The essential oil may include peppermint oil.
The scalp stimulant may be selected to cause a cooling sensation to the user’s scalp. The scalp stimulant may be further selected to promote increased blood flow in the user’s scalp. The scalp stimulant may constitute 1% to 2% of the hair treatment composition, preferably being 1.2%. The scalp stimulant may be selected from any one or more of the group including, menthol and camphor.
The wax may be selected to serve as any one or more of the group including, a hair lubricant, an emulsion stabiliser and a hair conditioner. The wax may constitute 3% to 7% of the hair treatment composition, preferably being 5%. The wax may be in the form of an animal and/or plant derived wax. The wax may include lanolin.
The antioxidant may be selected to alleviate free radicles in the user’s hair scalp or more particularly, the user’s hair follicles. The antioxidant may constitute 0.5% to 2% of the hair treatment composition, preferably being 1%. The antioxidant may include any suitable conventional vitamin such as vitamin A, C and/or E.
The hair supplement may be selected to promote healthy structural integrity of hair. The hair supplement, in particular, may be selected to promote the structural integrity of keratin in hair. The hair supplement may constitute 0.5% to 2% of the hair treatment composition, preferably being 0.8%. The hair supplement may include sulphur.
The emollient may be selected to condition the user’s hair and/or scalp. The emollient may be further selected to include humectant and/or antimicrobial and/or pH buffering properties. The emollient may constitute 0.5% to 2% of the hair treatment composition, preferably being 1%. The emollient may include honey and/or honey extract.
The lauric acid may be a constituent of a natural oil which may include coconut oil. The natural oil may constitute 0.5% to 2% of the hair treatment composition, preferably being 1 %.
The second vegetable oil may constitute 0.1% to 2% of the hair treatment composition, preferably being 0.5%. The second vegetable oil may include argan oil.
The hair treatment composition may include a fragrance. The fragrance may constitute 0.5% to 2% of the hair treatment composition, preferably being 1.5%. The fragrance may include vanilla.
The hair treatment composition may include a colourant. The colorant may constitute 0.5% to 2% of the hair treatment composition. The colourant may be lime green.
According to a second aspect of the invention there is provided a method for manufacturing a hair treatment composition of the kind set forth, the method including the steps of: - adding into a suitable vessel: - a base substance;
a first vegetable oil;
an essential oil; a scalp stimulant;
a wax; an antioxidant;
a hair supplement;
an emollient;
lauric acid; and a second vegetable oil to form mixture A; and
stirring and heating mixture A so as to make mixture A homogenous.
The base substance may constitute between 75% to 90% of the hair treatment composition, preferably being 83%. The base substance may be in the form of a base substance mixture, wherein the base substance mixture may constitute 40% to 45% of liquid paraffin, preferably being 44.3%, 30% to 35% of petroleum jelly, preferably being 34.6%, and 3% to 5% of paraffin wax, preferably being 4.1%. Each of the constituents of the base substance mixture may be added directed into the vessel and/or may be mixed separately and then added to the vessel.
The first vegetable oil may constitute 1% to 3% of the hair treatment composition, preferably being 2.5%.
The essential oil may constitute 1% to 3% of the hair treatment composition, preferably being 2.5%.
The scalp stimulant may constitute 1 % to 2% of the hair treatment composition, preferably being 1.2%.
The wax may constitute 3% to 7% of the hair treatment composition, preferably being 5%. The antioxidant may constitute 0.5% to 2% of the hair treatment composition, preferably being 1 %.
The hair supplement may constitute 0.5% to 2% of the hair treatment composition, preferably being 0.8%.
The emollient may constitute 0.5% to 2% of the hair treatment composition, preferably being 1 %.
The lauric acid may be included in a natural oil. The natural oil may include coconut oil. The natural oil may constitute 0.5% to 2% of the hair treatment composition, preferably being 1 %.
The second vegetable oil may constitute 0.1 % to 2% of the hair treatment composition, preferably being 0.5%.
Stirring and heating of mixture A may occur between 75°C and 80°C.
The method may include the step of cooling mixture A once it is homogenised, preferably to 40°C.
The method may include the step of adding a fragrance to mixture A once it has been cooled, to form mixture B. The fragrance may constitute 0.5% to 2% of the hair treatment composition, preferably being 1.5%. The fragrance may include vanilla. The method may include the step of adding a colourant to mixture B to form mixture C. The colourant may constitute 0.5% to 2% of the hair treatment composition. The colourant may be lime green.
The method may include the step of mixing mixture C until mixture C is homogenised.
Detailed description of the invention
According to a first aspect of the invention there is provided a hair treatment composition which includes a base substance, having dispersed therein, a first vegetable oil; an essential oil; a scalp stimulant; a wax; an antioxidant; a hair supplement; an emollient; lauric acid and a second vegetable oil.
The base substance is selected to include occlusive properties. The base substance constitutes 83% of the hair treatment composition. The base substance is a mixture of liquid paraffin, petroleum jelly and paraffin wax. The mixture constitutes 44.3% of liquid paraffin, 34.6% of petroleum jelly and 4.1 % of paraffin wax.
The first vegetable oil constitutes 2.5% of the hair treatment composition. The first vegetable oil includes castor oil. Castor oil is selected for its ricinoleic acid, vitamin E, minerals, proteins, and omega-6 and -9 fatty acid content.
The essential oil selected to promote increased blood flow in a user’s scalp. In particular, the essential oil is selected to promoted increased blood flow to hair follicles, thereby promoting hair growth. The essential oil constitutes 2.5% of the hair treatment composition. The essential oil includes peppermint oil.
The scalp stimulant is selected to cause a cooling sensation to the user’s scalp. The scalp stimulant is further selected to promote increased blood flow in the user’s scalp. The scalp stimulant constitutes 1.2% of the hair treatment composition. The scalp stimulant includes menthol.
The wax is selected to serve as any one or more of the group including, a hair lubricant, an emulsion stabiliser and a hair conditioner. The wax constitutes 5% of the hair treatment composition. The wax is in the form of an animal wax. The wax may include lanolin.
The antioxidant is selected to alleviate free radicles in the user’s hair scalp and more particularly, the user’s hair follicles. The antioxidant constitutes 1 % of the hair treatment composition. The antioxidant includes vitamin E.
The hair supplement is selected to promote healthy structural integrity of hair. The hair supplement, in particular is selected to promote the structural integrity of keratin in hair. The hair supplement constitutes 0.8% of the hair treatment composition. The hair supplement includes sulphur.
The emollient is selected to condition the user’s hair and/or scalp by moisturisation thereof. The emollient is further selected to include humectant properties which aid in moisturising the hair and/or scalp of the user. The emollient constitutes 1 % of the hair treatment composition. The emollient includes honey or honey extract, preferably honey extract due to its commercial availability. Honey and honey extract can also provide antibacterial, antifungal and pH buffering properties.
The lauric acid is a constituent of a natural oil which includes coconut oil. The natural oil may constitute 1 % of the hair treatment composition. Lauric acid is selected since it size and structure allows for penetration of the hair shaft thereby providing conditioning of the users hair. The second vegetable oil constitutes 0.5% of the hair treatment composition. The second vegetable oil includes argan oil.
The hair treatment composition includes a fragrance. The fragrance constitutes 1.5% of the hair treatment composition. The fragrance includes vanilla.
The hair treatment composition further includes lime green as colourant.
According to a second aspect of the invention there is provided a method for manufacturing a hair treatment composition of the kind set forth, the method including the steps of: - adding into a suitable vessel: - a base substance; a first vegetable oil;
an essential oil;
a scalp stimulant; a wax;
an antioxidant;
a hair supplement;
an emollient;
lauric acid; and a second vegetable oil to form mixture A; and
stirring and heating mixture A so as to make mixture A homogenous.
The base substance constitutes 83% of the hair treatment composition. The base substance is in the form of a base substance mixture, wherein the base substance mixture constitutes 44.3% of liquid paraffin, 34.6% of petroleum jelly and 4.1% of paraffin wax.
The first vegetable oil constitutes 2.5% of the hair treatment composition.
The essential oil constitutes 2.5% of the hair treatment composition.
The scalp stimulant constitutes 1.2% of the hair treatment composition.
The wax constitutes 5% of the hair treatment composition.
The antioxidant constitutes 1% of the hair treatment composition.
The hair supplement constitutes 0.8% of the hair treatment composition.
The emollient constitutes 1% of the hair treatment composition.
The lauric acid is included in a natural oil. The natural oil includes coconut oil. The natural oil constitutes 1% of the hair treatment composition.
The second vegetable oil constitutes 0.5% of the hair treatment composition. Stirring and heating of mixture A occurs between 75°C and 80°C.
The method includes the step of cooling mixture A once it is homogenised, to 40°C. The method includes the step of adding a fragrance to mixture A once it has been cooled, to form mixture B. The fragrance constitutes 1.5% of the hair treatment composition. The fragrance includes vanilla.
The method includes the step of adding a colourant to mixture B to form mixture C.
The method includes the step of mixing mixture C until mixture C is homogenised.
Although only certain embodiments of the invention have been described herein, it will be understood by any person skilled in the art that other modifications, variations, and possibilities of the invention are possible. Such modifications, variations and possibilities are therefore to be considered as falling within the spirit and scope of the invention and hence form part of the invention as herein described and/or exemplified. It is further to be understood that the examples are provided for illustrating the invention further and to assist a person skilled in the art with understanding the invention and is not meant to be construed as unduly limiting the reasonable scope of the invention.
The inventor believes that the hair treatment composition and method in accordance with the present invention is advantageous in that it promotes healthy growth and condition of the user’s hair and/or scalp. It also provides a cost-effective alternative to some conventional hair treatments.

Claims
1. A hair treatment composition which includes: - a base substance, having dispersed therein;
a first vegetable oil; an essential oil;
a scalp stimulant;
a wax; an antioxidant;
a hair supplement;
an emollient; lauric acid; and
a second vegetable oil.
2. A hair treatment composition as claimed in claim 1 wherein the base substance is selected to include occlusive properties.
3. A hair treatment composition as claimed in claim 1 or 2 wherein the base substance constitutes between 75% to 90% of the hair treatment composition.
4. A hair treatment composition as claimed in any one or more of the preceding claims wherein the base substance is in the form of any one or more selected from the group including, liquid paraffin, petroleum jelly, petrolatum jelly and paraffin wax.
5. A hair treatment composition as claimed in any one or more of the preceding claims wherein the base substance is a mixture of liquid paraffin, petroleum jelly and paraffin wax.
6. A hair treatment composition as claimed in claim 5 wherein the mixture constitutes 40% to 45% of liquid paraffin, 30% to 35% of petroleum jelly and 3% to 5% of paraffin wax.
7. A hair treatment composition as claimed in any one or more of the preceding claims wherein the first vegetable oil constitutes 1 % to 3% of the hair treatment composition.
8. A hair treatment composition as claimed in any one or more of the preceding claims wherein the first vegetable oil includes castor oil.
9. A hair treatment composition as claimed in any one or more of the preceding claims wherein the essential oil is selected to promote increased blood flow in a user’s scalp.
10. A hair treatment composition as claimed in any one or more of the preceding claims wherein the essential oil is selected to promoted increased blood flow to hair follicles of the user, thereby promoting hair growth.
11. A hair treatment composition as claimed in any one or more of the preceding claims wherein the essential oil constitutes 1 % to 3% of the hair treatment composition.
12. A hair treatment composition as claimed in any one or more of the preceding claims wherein the essential oil is in the form of peppermint oil.
13. A hair treatment composition as claimed in any one or more of the preceding claims wherein the scalp stimulant is selected to cause a cooling sensation to the user’s scalp.
14. A hair treatment composition as claimed in any one or more of the preceding claims wherein the scalp stimulant is selected to promote increased blood flow in the user’s scalp.
15. A hair treatment composition as claimed in any one or more of the preceding claims wherein the scalp stimulant constitutes 1% to 2% of the hair treatment composition.
16. A hair treatment composition as claimed in any one or more of the preceding claims wherein the scalp stimulant is selected from any one or more of the group including, menthol and camphor.
17. A hair treatment composition as claimed in any one or more of the preceding claims wherein the wax is selected to serve as any one or more of the group including, a hair lubricant, an emulsion stabiliser and a hair conditioner.
18. A hair treatment composition as claimed in any one or more of the preceding claims wherein the wax constitutes 3% to 7% of the hair treatment composition.
19. A hair treatment composition as claimed in any one or more of the preceding claims wherein the wax is in the form of an animal wax.
20. A hair treatment composition as claimed in any one or more of the preceding claims wherein the wax is in the form of a plant wax.
21. A hair treatment composition as claimed in any one or more of the preceding claims wherein the wax includes lanolin.
22. A hair treatment composition as claimed in any one or more of the preceding claims wherein the antioxidant is selected to alleviate free radicles in the user’s scalp.
23. A hair treatment composition as claimed in any one or more of the preceding claims wherein the antioxidant constitutes 0.5% to 2% of the hair treatment composition.
24. A hair treatment composition as claimed in any one or more of the preceding claims wherein the antioxidant is in the form of any suitable conventional vitamin.
25. A hair treatment composition as claimed in claim 24 wherein the vitamin is any one or more selected from the group including vitamin A, vitamin C and Vitamin E.
26. A hair treatment composition as claimed in any one or more of the preceding claims wherein the hair supplement is selected to promote healthy structural integrity of hair.
27. A hair treatment composition as claimed in any one or more of the preceding claims wherein the hair supplement is selected to promote the structural integrity of keratin in hair.
28. A hair treatment composition as claimed in any one or more of the preceding claims wherein the hair supplement constitutes 0.5% to 2% of the hair treatment composition.
29. A hair treatment composition as claimed in any one or more of the preceding claims wherein the hair supplement includes sulphur.
30. A hair treatment composition as claimed in any one or more of the preceding claims wherein the emollient is selected to condition the user’s hair and scalp.
31. A hair treatment composition as claimed in any one or more of the preceding claims wherein the emollient constitutes 0.5% to 2% of the hair treatment composition.
32. A hair treatment composition as claimed in any one or more of the preceding claims wherein the emollient includes any one or more selected from the group including honey and honey extract.
33. A hair treatment composition as claimed in any one or more of the preceding claims wherein the lauric acid is a constituent of a natural oil.
34. A hair treatment composition as claimed in claim 33 wherein the natural oil includes coconut oil.
35. A hair treatment composition as claimed in claim 33 or 34 wherein the natural oil constitutes 0.5% to 2% of the hair treatment composition.
36. A hair treatment composition as claimed in any one or more of the preceding claims wherein the second vegetable oil constitutes 0.1% to 2% of the hair treatment composition.
37. A hair treatment composition as claimed in any one or more of the preceding claims wherein the second vegetable oil includes argan oil.
38. A hair treatment composition as claimed in any one or more of the preceding claims wherein the hair treatment composition includes a fragrance.
39. A hair treatment composition as claimed in claim 38 wherein the fragrance constitutes 0.5% to 2% of the hair treatment composition.
40. A hair treatment composition as claimed in claim 38 or 39 which includes fragrance is vanilla.
41. A hair treatment composition as claimed in any one or more of the preceding claims which includes a colourant.
42. A hair treatment composition as claimed in claim 41 wherein the colourant constitutes 0.5% to 2% of the hair treatment composition.
43. A hair treatment composition as claimed in claim 41 or 42 wherein the colourant is lime green.
44. A method for the manufacture of a hair treatment composition of the kind set forth, the method includes the steps of: - adding into a suitable vessel: - a base substance;
a first vegetable oil;
an essential oil; a scalp stimulant;
a wax;
an antioxidant;
a hair supplement; an emollient;
lauric acid; and
a second vegetable oil to form mixture A; and stirring and heating mixture A so as to make mixture A homogenous.
45. A method as claimed in claim 44 wherein the vessel is in the form of any one or more selected from the group including, [... please supply...].
46. A method as claimed in claim 44 or 45 wherein the base substance constitutes between 75% to 90% of the hair treatment composition.
47. A method as claimed in any one or more of claims 44 onwards wherein the base substance is in the form of a base substance mixture, constituting any one or more selected from the group including, liquid paraffin, petroleum jelly, petrolatum jelly and paraffin wax.
48. A method as claimed in claim 47 wherein the base substance mixture constitutes 40% to 45% of liquid paraffin, 30% to 35% of petroleum jelly and 3% to 5% of paraffin wax.
49. A method as claimed in any one or more of claims 44 onwards wherein the first vegetable oil constitutes 1% to 3% of the hair treatment composition.
50. A method as claimed in any one or more of claims 44 onwards wherein the essential oil constitutes 1% to 3% of the hair treatment composition.
51. A method as claimed in any one or more of claims 44 onwards wherein the scalp stimulant constitutes 1% to 2% of the hair treatment composition.
52. A method as claimed in any one or more of claims 44 onwards wherein the wax constitutes 3% to 7% of the hair treatment composition.
53. A method as claimed in any one or more of claims 44 onwards wherein the antioxidant constitutes 0.5% to 2% of the hair treatment composition.
54. A method as claimed in any one or more of claims 44 onwards wherein the hair supplement constitutes 0.5% to 2% of the hair treatment composition.
55. A method as claimed in any one or more of claims 44 onwards wherein the emollient constitutes 0.5% to 2% of the hair treatment composition.
56. A method as claimed in any one or more of claims 44 onwards wherein the lauric acid is includes in a natural oil which includes coconut oil.
57. A method as claimed in claim 56 wherein the natural oil constitutes 0.5% to 2% of the hair treatment composition.
58. A method as claimed in any one or more of claims 44 onwards wherein the second vegetable oil constitutes 0.1% to 2% of the hair treatment composition.
59. A method as claimed in any one or more of claims 44 onwards wherein stirring and heating of mixture A occurs between 75°C and 80°C.
60. A method as claimed in any one or more of claims 44 onwards which includes cooling mixture A once it is homogenised.
61. A method as claimed in claim 60 wherein mixture A is cooled to 40°C.
62. A method as claimed in any one or more of claims 44 onwards which includes adding a fragrance to mixture A once it has been cooled, to form mixture B.
63. A method as claimed in claim 62 wherein the fragrance constitutes 0.5% to 2% of the hair treatment composition.
64. A method as claimed in claim 62 or 63 wherein the fragrance is vanilla.
65. A method as claimed in any one or more of claims 44 onwards which includes adding a colourant to mixture B to form mixture C.
66. A method as claimed in claim 65 wherein the colourant constitutes 0.5% to 2% of the hair treatment composition.
67. A method as claimed in claim 65 or 66 wherein the colourant is lime green.
68. A method as claimed in any one or more of claims 44 onwards which includes mixing mixture C until mixture C is homogenised.
69. A hair treatment composition, substantially as hereinbefore described or exemplified.
70. A hair treatment composition, including any new and inventive integer or combination of integers, substantially as herein described.
71. A method, substantially as hereinbefore described or exemplified.
72. A method, including any new and inventive integer or combination of integers, substantially as herein described.
