  • Figures 16 and 17 illustrate a rear cross member 17, which will form a rear edge of the dump tray 1. Accordingly, cross member 17 comprises rock deflectors D and a lining of wear resistant steel plate.
  • a location guide 20 for ensuring that the dump tray 1 is centrally positioned with respect to the truck chassis 102 as it is lowered from its raised position.
  • One of these location guides 20 is illustrated in greater detail in Figure 20.
  • Each of the rails 12 is comprised of a plurality of segments connected by joiners, which include upper and lower corner joiners 30 and 32 which help to conform the rails 12 to the shape of the shell 50, by following the underside of each of the floor, end wall and canopy of the shell 50.

  • lateral support arms 34 Extending outward from select cross members 14 in a cantilever fashion are lateral support arms 34 for supporting the shell 50 at outer positions.
  • a dual acting dampener 36 is fitted at the ends of two pairs of lateral support arms 34. These dual acting dampeners 36 provide dampening during both compression and rebound. One of these dual acting dampeners 36 is illustrated in greater detail in Figure 18, minus the two suspension airbags which will be mounted thereto on either side of the collar 37.
  • a single acting dampener 38 is fitted at the end of all but one pair of the remaining lateral support arms 34.
  • the single acting dampeners 38 provide dampening during compression only.
  • One of these single acting dampeners 38 is illustrated in greater detail in Figure 19, minus the suspension airbag which will be mounted thereto on the platform 39.

  • the shell further comprises external support members, where the shell panels and the external support members are mutually structurally supportive of each other.
  • These external shell support members comprise a pair of‘hungry boards’ 60 (a common name for side wall extensions), each of which extends along an upper edge of each side wall of the shell, and a plurality of side supports 62, each of which extends from beneath the shell, and up a side of the shell to terminate at an overlap with one of the hungry boards 60.
  • One of the hungry boards 60 is illustrated in further detail in Figure 21.
  • each of the side supports 62 is illustrated in further detail in Figure 22.
  • An underside of each of the side supports 62 comprises a seat 64 for one of the shock dampeners 36 and 38.
  • the dampeners 36 and 38 are secured with respect to each of the frame 10 and the shell 50. In this way the dampeners 36 and 38 interpose the shell 50 and the frame 10 while securing the shell 50 with respect to the frame 10.
  • a tail bumper 66 is positioned to either side of the rear cross member 17. These tail bumpers 66 depend from the shell 50. Figure 23 illustrates one of these tail bumpers 66 in detail.
  • the dump tray 1 further comprises a wear liner 70 for the shell 50.
  • the wear liner 70 comprises a plurality of wear panels 72 of wear resistant steel plate cut to shape and joined along contiguous edges to form the wear liner.
  • the assembled wear liner nests in the shell.
  • the dump tray further comprises a canopy assembly 80, which will extend over and protect the cab (and hence the operator) of the truck when the dump tray 1 is lowered.
  • the canopy assembly 80 comprises a canopy liner panel 82 having a rear edge, a front edge, and a pair of side edges. A detailed cross-sectional view through this canopy liner panel 82 is illustrated at Figure 35.
  • a plurality of canopy attachment mounts 84 are positioned along the rear edge of the canopy assembly 80, to mount the canopy assembly 80 to the shell. Moreover, a plurality of plates known as‘meet up angles’ 85 extend along the rear edge of the canopy assembly to blend the canopy assembly to the shell 50.
  • the front edge of the canopy assembly 80 comprises a canopy ridge 86 extending therealong, to prevent material which lands on the canopy panel 82 from falling over this front edge.
  • This canopy ridge 86 is illustrated in further detail in Figure 33.
  • Each of the side edges of the canopy assembly comprises rock deflectors 88 extending therealong.

  • the canopy assembly 80 may be covered with a skin of polyurethane, for protection and impact absorption.
  • a dump tray according to the present invention will weigh less than 10 tonnes, compared with 22 tonnes for a conventional dump tray. This results in a commensurate payload increase for the haul truck, and wear and fuel saving when unladen.

Abstract

La présente invention concerne des camions de roulage, ainsi que des bennes basculantes pour ces camions de roulage. Selon un aspect, l'invention concerne une benne basculante de camion de roulage qui comprend une coque de benne, un cadre portant la coque et une pluralité d'amortisseurs de chocs interposés entre la coque et le cadre. La coque de benne et le cadre sont tous deux constitués principalement de matériaux composites, et les amortisseurs de chocs absorbent et amortissent les chocs transmis lorsque le matériau est lâché dans la benne basculante, réduisant jusqu'à quel point la coque et le cadre doivent absorber ces charges de choc.
