  • Eyeglass protectors such as those described in the Background section are cumbersome and impractical to handle as they are generally too large for storing in a pocket of a shirt or a pair of pants. Additionally, it is a tedious process to fold the eyeglasses and store them in the container, and to remove them from the container and unfold them, especially if a user continuously has to wear and remove the eyeglasses as is typically the case with users who wear more than one set of eyeglasses (e.g. eyeglasses for reading and for near sightedness or far sightedness).
  • a problem with not using the protective container and leaving the eyeglasses exposed inside a shirt pocket, or hanging from a shirt or a chain, or otherwise unprotected on a surface is that any bending movement or accidental movement by the user may result in the eyeglasses falling to the ground and the lenses suffering damage from the impact.
  • the damage, in less serious cases may be the lenses being scratched as a result of the impact and in more serious cases may include the lenses breaking as a result.
  • the applicant has realized that damage to the eyeglasses lenses as a result of a fall, for example, may be prevented by using an eyeglasses lens protector which may be fitted over both lenses when the user removes the eyeglasses.
  • the eyeglasses lens protector may partially or wholly cover both sides of the lenses, may be easily placed over the lenses when the user has removed the eyeglasses, and may be easily removed prior to wearing the eyeglasses.
  • the eyeglasses lens protector may only partially or wholly cover a single side (the exterior side of the lenses distal from the temple) of both eyeglass lenses.
  • the eyeglasses lens protector may additionally partially or wholly cover the rims and/or the bridge of the eyeglasses' frame.

  • the eyeglasses lens protector may include a right side protector for the right lens and a left side protector for the left lens. Both protectors may be joined together to form a single integral component. Alternatively, the right side lens protector and the left side lens protector are separated from one another and may be joined together by a bridging component which may be attached to each protector and may optionally extend across the bridge of the eyeglasses.
  • the right side protector and the left side protector are separated from one another and may be fitted individually over the right lens and the left side protector over the left lens as two separate components.
  • the individual protectors may be attached to one another by a string, a thin cable, , or other flexible connection means which may allow the protectors to be placed one on top of the other or next to one another for storage in a clothes’ pocket, inside a bag pocket, other relatively small space.

  • the individual protectors may each be shaped to conform to the shape of the right lens and the shape of the left lens, respectively.
  • the right side protector and the left side protector may have the same shape. Having the same shape may be potentially advantageous as the eyeglass lens protector may be suitable for use with all styles of eyeglasses and may also be interchangeable. Additionally, production costs may be substantially reduced as only one style of lens protector needs to be manufactured (left side protector and right side protector are the same shape).
  • the eyeglasses lens protector may be manufactured out of a material suitable to resist a drop from a shirt pocket or from a location on the upper section of a person's torso or neck area.
