Description
HAIR REMOVAL COMPOSITIONS COMPRISING GEMSTONE MINERALS
CLAIM OF PRIORITY
[0001] The present application claims priority from U.S. provisional patent application Serial Number 62/555,823, filed September 8, 2017, which is incorporated herein by reference in its entirety.
TECHNICAL FIELD
[0002] The present disclosure relates to cosmetic compositions useful for hair removal.
BACKGROUND
[0003] The removal of body hair is often desirable for cosmetic, surgical, or religious reasons. Hair may be removed by depilation, which is the removal of hair above the surface of the skin. Various methods of removing hair by depilation are known, such as shaving or by applying chemical depilatories, which work by breaking the disulfide bonds that link the protein chains that give hair its strength. While such methods may be satisfactory for certain purposes, they do not remove the part of the hair below the skin. These methods also tend to irritate the skin, either by the scraping of the razor blade or by the chemical irritation of the depilatory. Moreover, because the portion of the hair below the skin is not removed, regrowth begins almost immediately and repeated treatment is often necessary after only a few days to maintain smooth, hairless skin.
[0004] Hair may also be removed by epilation, which is the removal of the entire hair, including the part below the skin. Because epilation removes the entire hair, regrowth is usually not apparent for several weeks. Various methods of removing hair by epilation are known, including waxing, lasers, electrolysis, and plucking. All of these methods have some
undesirable side effects, whose severity varies with the particular skin type of the user.
[0005] It would be beneficial to provide a composition for hair removal that is effective while being gentle and hydrating to the skin of the user.
SUMMARY
[0006] According to one aspect of the present disclosure, a topical cosmetic composition is provided which comprises glyceryl rosinate, triethylene glycol rosinate, beeswax, ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymer, hydrogenated microcrystalline wax and crushed gemstone mineral. The crushed gemstone mineral is preferably tourmaline, amethyst, or quartz. The composition may further include one or more of coconut oil, zinc oxide, a solvent such as mineral oil or corn germ oil, a skin conditioner such as grape leaf extract or grape seed oil, opacifying agents such as titanium dioxide, tin oxide, and mica, fragrance, and coloring.
[0007] This composition is in the form of a wax, which is melted and applied to the skin in a thin layer. After the wax has cooled, it is peeled off the area of application, removing the hair with it. Because the cosmetic composition is gentle to the skin and less irritating that existing compositions, it may be used in sensitive areas, such as for bikini waxing, without causing undesirable irritation.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION
[0008] In accordance with the present disclosure, cosmetic compositions are provided that enable superior hair removal and promote skin hydration. Although wax compositions for hair removal are known, the presence of gemstone mineral in the compositions of the invention provide more effective hair removal with less skin irritation than known wax compositions.
[0009] One embodiment of the composition comprises glyceryl rosinate in the range of about 50-75% by weight, triethylene glycol rosinate in the range
of about 10-25% by weight, beeswax in the range of about 5-10% by weight, ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymer in the range of about 1 -5% by weight, hydrogenated microcrystalline wax in the range of about 1 -5% by weight, and crushed gemstone mineral in about 1 % by weight. The composition may additionally comprise about 1 % by weight of one or more of each of an opacifying agent (such as one or more of titanium dioxide, mica, and tin oxide), coconut oil, a skin conditioner selected from one or more of grape leaf extract and grape seed oil, and zinc oxide. Still further, the composition may comprise about 1 % by weight of a solvent selected from one or more of corn germ oil and mineral oil, about 1 % by weight fragrance, and about 1 % by weight coloring agent. The fragrance and coloring agent may be selected from any known materials. One preferred fragrance comprises cinnamyl alcohol, citronellol, geraniol, and alpha-methyl ionone. Another preferred fragrance comprises benzyl salicylate, farnesol, geraniol, limonene, linalool, and butylphenyl methylpropional. One preferred coloring agent is violet 2. Another preferred coloring agent is a mixture of violet 2 and red 6 lake. The total of the ingredients in each composition is 100% by weight.
