Abstract

In order for it to be possible for a packaging film with a weakening line (8) to be straightforwardly wound up and unwound, provision is made for a support coating (11) to be applied at least in part, on the side (10) of the packaging film (1) with the at least one weakening line (8), in the region alongside the weakening line (8) and on either side of the weakening line (8), this compensating, at least in part, for the difference in thickness produced by the convexities (9).

Description

Verpackungsfolie mit Schwächungslinie und Stützlack  Packaging film with weakening line and supporting lacquer
The subject invention relates to a packaging film having at least one line of weakness on one side of the packaging film, wherein the line of weakness is limited by protrusions projecting from the side. The invention also relates to a method for producing such a packaging film.
In the packaging industry, packaging films are used with a film into which a weakening line has been introduced on at least one side. Such lines of weakness are often used in a package of such a packaging film as Aufreißhilfen. A typical application for such packaging films are closure films of containers (so-called goblet plates), pouches, wrapping packages or blister packs. The packaging film can also be printed on one or two sides with a printing layer to produce a desired printed image. Also perfecting (also called mirror printing) is possible. In addition, on one side of the packaging film, usually the outer layer in the packaging, can be provided with a flat protective lacquer to protect the printed image. On the other side of the packaging film, usually the side facing the inside of the packaging, a sealing layer may be applied.
By introducing a weakening line into one side of the film of the packaging film, bulges projecting from the surface arise at the edges of the weakening line. The packaging film has thereby in the region of the bulges and locally very limited a greater thickness. This can lead to problems when winding the packaging film onto a roll. Due to the different thicknesses, the packaging film is deformed in places (especially in the region of the bulges) during rolling up, in particular overstretched. As a result, bars or cavities may arise. Accordingly, when unwinding the packaging film to produce a package for the product, deformed areas are present on the packaging film, which, apart from possible visual impairments, increases machine operability in processing machines, such as e.g. Packaging machines, under certain circumstances no longer exists. This can lead to undesirable problems in the further processing of the packaging film. In the worst case, the packaging film is not to be processed at all, and thus, under certain circumstances, the packaging machine, e.g. a bottling plant, not to operate at all.
It is therefore an object of the subject invention to provide a packaging film with a line of weakness, and a manufacturing method thereof, which can still be wound up and unwound without the known problems.
This object is achieved in that on the side of the packaging film with the at least one line of weakness in the area next to the weakening line and on both sides of the line of weakness at least partially a support lacquer is applied in order to compensate for the difference in thickness caused by the bulges at least partially. The supporting varnish compensates for the locally very limited bulges over a larger area, which means that deformations during rolling up can be reduced. In this way, the further processability of the packaging film can be ensured on a packaging machine.
Most preferably, the support lacquer is applied by a printing process, which is procedurally simple. The order of the support lacquer at the desired locations can thus be planned exactly in advance and can be easily realized.
To compensate for the differences in thickness, it is advantageous if applied to at least 15 to 50% of the surface next to the line of weakness of the support lacquer. Similarly, if applied to 30% to 100% of the area within the scope of a self-contained line of weakness of the support lacquer. Similarly, if the support lacquer 2mm to 15mm, preferably 1 mm to 5mm, is disposed away from a bulge. Likewise, if the supporting lacquer is arranged at least along 50% of the length of the weakening line, preferably the entire length. Similarly, if the backing is applied between 70% to 120% of the maximum height of the bulge.

1 shows a typical known structure of a packaging film 1 with a film 2 in the form of a film laminate with a support layer 3, for example made of aluminum, paper or plastic, and at least one cover layer 4. The cover layer 4 is preferably made of plastic, such as from a polyolefin (typically based on polyethylene PE or polypropylene PP in various known types), polyamide PA, polyvinyl chloride PVC, polyethylene terephthalate PET, ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer EVOH, ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer EVA, polystyrene PS, etc. Also mixtures Various plastics, as well as copolymers and block copolymers are possible in the cover layer 4. The cover layer 4 may also be made of paper. The plastics mentioned can also be used in the carrier layer 3. The cover layer 4 may itself be a multilayer laminate of several layers. The carrier layer 3 can also be used as a multi-layered be executed minat. Both the cover layer 4, as well as the support layer 3, as a laminate different materials, such as aluminum and paper, aluminum and plastic, paper and plastic, various plastics, etc., be executed. It can also be provided that on both sides of the carrier layer 3, a cover layer 4, which may also be designed differently, are arranged. The multilayer film 2 may be coextruded or laminated, or also mixed forms thereof. In the case of laminating, common, suitable laminating adhesives are used for bonding the layers. Also well-known surface treatment methods for improving the adhesion between the individual layers of the film substrate 2, and / or optionally the support layer 3 and / or the cover layer 4, for example, a flame, plasma or corona treatment, a silicate or other surface coating, the use of modified Plastics (eg, maleic anhydride (MAH) modified plastics), etc., are of course possible.
Conceivable exemplary film constructions of the film 2 are listed in the following Table 1.

Tabelle 1  Table 1
All plastic films in the above film constructions may also be colored. Likewise, laminating adhesives can also be colored. PE can be used in the various known variants, e.g. LDPE, LLDPE, MDPE and HDPE. PET can also be metallised in the film structures. Likewise, PP can also be used in foamed form, in particular when used in the carrier layer 3.
Typical layer thicknesses of the carrier layer 3 and cover layer 4 in the case of plastics are in the range of 5 to 50 μm, in the case of PET also up to 80 μm, in aluminum in the range of 6 to 50 μm and in paper in the range of 20 to 150 g / m 2 .
Between carrier layer 3 and cover layer 4, other layers could also be provided, for example a barrier layer of metallized plastic or of ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer EVOH or ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer EVA.
On the film 2, a printing layer 5 may be provided on one side or on both sides in order to apply a desired printed image with printing inks. Of course, can be waived by a printing layer 5 also, if it does not require the application. Irrespective of the presence of a printing layer 5, an overcoat 6 can also be applied to one side of the packaging film 1 in order to protect the film 2 or a printed layer 5 from external, in particular mechanical, influences. The topcoat 6 is arranged in a finished packaging with a packaging film 1 according to the invention, preferably on the outside of the packaging, that is, facing away from the package contents.
On one side of the packaging film 1, in the case of the presence of an overcoat 6 on the side of the packaging film 1 opposite the overcoat 6, a sealing layer 7 may also be provided. The sealing layer 7 is made of a heat-sealable polymer, in particular PE or PP (also mixtures thereof) or of a heat sealing lacquer. The sealing layer 7 is preferably arranged in a finished packaging with a packaging film 1 according to the invention on the inside of the packaging, that is to say the contents of the packaging. The sealing layer 7 need not be provided over the entire surface, but it may be sufficient if the sealing layer 7 is provided only at locations where it is sealed later to produce the package.
On at least one side 10 of the packaging film 1, that is to say in a cover layer 4 or in the carrier layer 3 of the film 2, weakening lines 8 are often introduced. A weakening line 8 can be continuous, can be interrupted or can also be self-contained, as shown in FIG. In the example of FIG. 3, the weakening line 8 is in FIG the cover layer 4 of the film 2 introduced. The weakening line 8 can also be incorporated into a plurality of layers of the film 2, but usually does not pass through the entire film 2.
The weakening line 8 can also be introduced before or after the application of a printing layer 5 or an overcoat 6.
A weakening line 8 can basically run on the packaging film 1 as desired. Such weakening lines 8 often serve as tear-open aids for opening a package that is produced from the packaging film 1. Weakening lines 8 are generally introduced by laser cutting, for example by means of CO 2 lasers, or by mechanical cutting or scribing, for example with a cutting roller or a knife. By introducing a weakening line 8, however, arise at the edges of the line of weakness 8 in the cut material bulges 9, which rise from the surface of the film 2 (Figure 3). These bulges 9 arise for example by deposition of vaporized material during laser cutting or by displacement of the material during mechanical cutting. Due to the locally very limited bulges 9, the thickness of the packaging film 1 increases around the weakening line 8, which can be problematic when rolling the packaging film 1, as stated above.
To counteract this, on the packaging film 1 on the surface in the area adjacent to a weakening line 8 and on both sides (based on the longitudinal extent) of a weakening line 8 at least partially applied a support lacquer 1 1, as shown in Figure 3 and Figure 4.
A varnish is generally characterized in that it is applied in liquid form and obtains by drying its strength or final properties. The chemical base of the support lacquer is irrelevant in this case, wherein the support lacquer 1 1 should of course be compatible with the application of the packaging film 1. The support lacquer 11 is preferably an aqueous or solvent-containing lacquer system. The advantage of such paints is to be seen in particular in the simple application, since such paints are printable and can be printed on a substrate with common inline and offline printing systems with different printing methods. The support lacquer 11 is therefore preferably applied by any suitable printing process. A printing method makes it possible to plan the support surface in advance exactly, whereby such an order of the support lacquer 1 1 is easy to implement.
The support lacquer 1 1 serves to compensate for the greater thickness in the region of the bulge 9 at least partially. For this purpose, at least 15 to 50% of the area next to the line of weakness 8 should be applied with a supporting varnish 11. In the case of a closed weakening line 8, within the circumference of the weakening line 8, at least 30% of the Surface a supporting lacquer 1 1 are applied. A complete filling of the area within the circumference of a closed weakening line 8 would be conceivable. Likewise, it is conceivable to fill the entire surface next to a weakening line 8 with supporting lacquer 1 1. In principle, it is advantageous to provide as much of the surface with supporting lacquer 1 1. Usually, the packaging film 1 is made as a web of great length. From this web, packages are then formed, for example bags in a tubular bag machine, or parts are punched or cut out of them, which are then formed into a package or used in a package, for example, closure boards of containers (Figure 5). Of course, the supporting lacquer 1 1 can also be applied to areas of the web which remain as waste and waste.
The support lacquer 1 1 should be arranged in the immediate vicinity of a bulge 9. Ideally, the support lacquer 1 1 would connect directly to the bulge 9. Due to the process tolerances when applying the support lacquer 1 1 but this can not be ensured. For example, a common printing method, e.g. a flexographic printing process, a typical registration mark accuracy of ± 0.5mm, which could place the support lacquer 1 1 in the range of 0 to 1 mm next to a bulge 9. Of course, the supporting lacquer 11 should not be too far away from the bulge 9, since otherwise the thickness-compensating effect of the supporting lacquer 11 would be lost. The support lacquer 1 1 should therefore be no further than 2 to 15 mm, preferably 1 to 5 mm, away from a bulge 9. In any case, it must be avoided that the support lacquer 1 1 is applied to a bulge 9, since this would of course further adversely increase the thickness in the region of the bulge 9.
If the support lacquer 1 1 is applied along a weakening line 8, at least along 50% of the length of the weakening line 8, preferably the entire length, supporting lacquer 11 should be arranged at the above-described distance next to the weakening line 8.
The support lacquer 1 1 is of course applied in the required thickness in order to compensate for the height of the bulge 9 sufficiently. Advantageously, the support lacquer 1 1 should be applied in the range of 70% to 120% of the maximum height of the bulge. The thickness of the support lacquer 7 is typically in the range of 0.2 g / m 2 to 15 g / m 2 , often in the range of 1, 5g / m 2 - 5g / m 2 .
The support lacquer 1 1 can also be applied running, so that the thickness of the support lacquer 1 1 is thicker in the immediate vicinity of the line of weakness 8, as farther away.
The support lacquer 1 1 is preferably transparent in the dried state, but could also not be transparent or colored. However, the support lacquer 1 1 need not be applied directly to the film 2 of the packaging film 1. If a printing layer 5 or an overcoat 6 is provided, the supporting lacquer 11 can also be applied to the printing layer 5 or the overcoat 6.
FIG. 6 shows a possible, exemplary manufacturing method for the packaging film 1. A film 2 is unwound from a roll or comes directly from a lamination process or coextrusion process. In a cutting unit 15, a weakening line 8 is cut on at least one side 10. In a subsequent printing machine 16, the support lacquer 1 1 is applied to the intended areas of the film web with a suitable printing process. In an optional further printing machine 17, a desired printing layer 5 (also on both sides) can be applied. In this step, an overcoat 6 can also be applied simultaneously. Of course, the order of the support lacquer 1 1 and the printing layer 5 could be printed in different printing units of a single printing press. It would be within the meaning of the invention, however, also possible to apply first the print layer 5 and / or an overcoat 6 and only then the support lacquer 1. 1 The packaging film 1 with the film 2 can be rewound for further processing on a roll. Before that, a sealing layer 7 could also be added, for example in a laminating process. However, the sealing layer 7 could also already be added to the film 2 before cutting the weakening line 8.
