Description

A DISHWASHER WITH IMPROVED WASHING PERFORMANCE
The present invention relates to a dishwasher comprising two spray arms rotatable on different axes.
In dishwashers, the items placed on the corner regions of a washing tub may not be cleaned well due to the washing tubs generally having a rectangular cross-section and the pivoting spray arms forming an annular washing area. Using spray arms rotating in different axes on top of each other is know as a solution to this problem. The lower spray arm preferably rotates on the base of the washing tub and pivots about an axis on its center, and the upper spray arm rotates about an axis offset from center and dependently with the lower spray arm. By this, the end of the upper spray arm extends farther to the corner regions, enabling better cleaning of the items at the corner regions. However, in such applications, the gears enabling the upper spray arm to be rotated are disposed within the washing tub. Oil and similar dirt particles washed off the dishes during washing collect on said gears and may cause the gears to jam over time. In addition, the large-sized dirt particles washed off the dishes jam between the gears during washing, inhibiting their movement.
State of the art U.S. patent application no. US2015359408 discloses a dishwasher comprising a counter-weight used on the lower one of two spray arms connected in different axes so as to be on top of each other.
State of the art Japanese patent application no. JPH10117993 discloses a dishwasher comprising a spray arm rotating about an axis offset from the axis to which the water line provided on the base of a washing tub is connected.
The aim of the present invention is to realize a dishwasher in which the items at the corner regions are enabled to be washed in a better manner.
The dishwasher realized to achieve the aim of the present invention and disclosed in the first claim and the dependent claims, comprises a plurality of gears provided in a driving spray arm connected to a water line, enabling rotating an eccentric spray arm coupled on the driving spray arm in an axis other than the axis through which the driving spray arm is connected to the water line, and at least one barrier enabling surrounding the gears. The eccentric spray arm is rotated by the gears while the driving spray arm rotates about itself, and enables water to be sprayed to the corner regions of the washing tub in which washing is performed. The gear movements are prevented from being inhibited due to dirt particles in the washing water by means of the barrier surrounding the gears. The barrier completely surrounds the gears so as not to inhibit engagement of the gears with each other. The dirt particles in the washing water thus cannot restrict the movement of the eccentric spray arm by jamming in between the gears.
In an embodiment of the invention, the driving spray arm comprises a hub expanding in water flow direction. Water from the water line passes around the gears, fills into the hub of the driving spray arm and then flows towards the eccentric spray arm. By this, whirlpools formation within the driving spray arm is prevented, and water is enabled to be transmitted to the eccentric spray arm by making it follow a straight path. Thus, the dirt particles in the washing water are prevented from jamming into the gears, and high-pressure water is enabled to be transmitted to the eccentric spray arm.
In an embodiment of the invention, the driving spray arm is composed of two detachable parts, and can be cleaned internally by being opened by a user when the gears are jammed due to dirt particles.
In the dishwasher of the invention, the gear assembly enabling the eccentric spray arm to rotate is in the driving spray arm, and said gears enabled to operate without problems thanks to the barrier. The problem-free operation of the gears is secured thanks to the barrier and the hub with an expanding structure.
A dishwasher realized to achieve the aim of the present invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the dishwasher.
Figure 2 is an exploded view of the driving spray arm and the eccentric spray arm in an embodiment of the invention.
Figure 3 is a schematic view of the driving spray arm from above in an embodiment of the invention.

The dishwasher (1) comprises a body (2), a washing tub (3) provided in the body (2), in which washing is performed, a water line (4) provided in the body (2), a driving spray arm (5) provided on the base of the washing tub (3), rotatable about itself and connected to the water line (4), and an eccentric spray arm (6) coupled to the driving spray arm (5) so as to have liquid transmission in between, in an axis offset from and other than the axis through which the water line (4) is connected to the driving spray arm (5). In order to better wash the corners of the washing tub (3) with a rectangular cross-section, a driving spray arm (5) connected to the water line (4) and an eccentric spray arm (6) coupled to the driving spray arm (5) in a different axis, are used. By coupling the spray arms (5, 6) with their axes offset, the eccentric spray arm (6) scans a reuleaux triangle area, enabling sending water to almost everywhere within the washing tub (3). At least one basket (12) is used to place the dishes into the washing tub (3).
The dishwasher (1) of the invention comprises a plurality of gears (7) provided in the driving spray arm (5), enabling the eccentric spray arm (6) to rotate about itself upon rotation of the driving spray arm (5) about itself, and at least one barrier (8) provided in the driving spray arm (5), surrounding almost half of the gears (7).
In the dishwasher (1) of the invention, the gears (7) provided in the driving spray arm (5) are positioned such that one of them is stationary with respect to the driving spray arm (5), and the others rotate about the stationary gear (7) upon rotation of the driving spray arm (5) about itself. The endmost one of the movable gears (7) is coupled to the eccentric spray arm (6), enabling the eccentric spray arm (6) to rotate about itself. The barrier (8) surrounds the gears (7) in the driving spray arm (5) so as not to inhibit engagement of the gears (7) with each other. By this, the dirt particles mixed in the washing water to be transmitted to the eccentric spray arm (6) are prevented from inhibiting the movement of the gears (7). Water flowing to the eccentric spray arm (6) reaches the eccentric spray arm (6) by going around the barrier (8).
In an embodiment of the invention, the driving spray arm (5) comprises a hub (9) expanding from the water line (4) towards the eccentric spray arm (6). In this embodiment, the hub (9) of the driving spray arm (5) has a structure expanding in water flow direction, and the water to be transmitted to the eccentric spray arm (6) fills into the hub (9) before being transmitted to the eccentric spray arm (6). By this, the pressure of water transmitted to the eccentric spray arm (6) is prevented from decreasing, and the adverse effect of the barrier (8) protecting the gears (7) on water flow rate is compensated. In addition, turbulence in water is decreased by the expanding hub (9) structure, and the dirt particles in the washing water are prevented from returning due to turbulence, jamming into the open portions of the gears (7) and inhibiting their movement.
In another embodiment of the invention, the driving spray arm (5) comprises a lower surface (10) connected to the water line (4), on which the gears (7) are fixed, and an upper surface (11) detachably fixed on the lower surface (10), enabling covering the lower surface (10). The driving spray arm (5) has a structure detachable into two pieces, enabling the gears (7) within to be cleaned.
By means of the barrier (8) of the invention, the gears (7) enabling the eccentric spray arm (6) to be rotated are operated in a problem-free manner, and the maintenance costs are thus decreased. With the invention, numerous problems experienced in washing the corners of the washing tub (3) are solved by using eccentric spray arm (6).
