Description
Description
[1 ] Title of Invention: Diesel engine exhaust muffler filter
Technical Field
This patent relates to filters and absorbers of noise and products of diesel engine combustion.
Background Art
There are a lot of investigations and inventions for reduction of the
[5] exhaust sound and harmful emissions of gases and particles produced by internal combustion engines through various means and methods. The common point of these inventions is a filter which is placed exposed to the exhaust stream. However, what distinguishes these inventions is the absorbing material within the filter cartridge.
[10] Some of these inventions are:
US patent 3,406,501 I (AUTOMOBILE ENGINE EXHAUST FILTER)
This patent discloses an exhaust filter for automobile engine having a cylindrical shell with means for attaching one end thereof to a tailpipe, and a perforate cap detachably connected to the other end. A replaceable cartridge is located within the shell containing alternate
[15] layers of fibrous filtering material consisting largely of activated charcoal and which is preferably a mixture known as Hopcolite comprising activated charcoal with relatively small amounts of soda lime, manganese and oxide of copper.
US patent 3,596,441 (A filtering device for vehicle exhaust)
This invention relates to a filtering device intended to be attached
[20] temporarily to an exhaust pipe of a vehicle at occasional indoors driving and the like, and comprising a filter, a filter holder comprising a double-sided open sleeve, both ends of which are designed with coupling means, for example in the form of a bayonet couplings, for connection of a perforated cover attachable at one end of the sleeve and provided with [25] corresponding coupling means, said cover being intended for inclusion of said filter which is locatable against a seat in the sleeve, and that to the other end of the sleeve there is connectible a connection member for attachment to the exhaust pipe. The filter consists of a first filter portion of micro fiberglass fitting the entire cross-section of the
[30] sleeve, a second filter portion of active carbon and a third filter portion of soda lime and a near the perforation of the cover located filter sheeting.
United States Patent 2,984,315 (Exhaust filter-muffler)
This invention relates to an improved muffler for internal-combustion engines, primarily for motor vehicle engines, and has for a primary
[35] object to provide a muffler which will effectively function to absorb undesirable particles without removal of the muffler from its mounting between the exhaust manifold outlet and the tail pipe. The filter packing comprising a mass of activated charcoal nodules.
Summary of Invention
Summary of this invention are as follows:
Technical Problem
[40] In diesel engines and engines with a few cylinders, the stream of exhaust gases during engine combustion, produces the harsh sounds and resulted in the sonic pollution in environment. The exhaust silencer slightly reduces these sounds, but it is not enough. On the other hand, diesel engines transmit a lot of pollutions to the atmosphere that most [45] of them are greenhouse gases and harmful for environment and human. The aim of this invention is to produce a filter which can reduce these sonic and air pollutions.
Solution to Problem
The solution to the mentioned problems is use of a replaceable filter in the exhaust muffler to reduce the air and sonic pollutions of diesel
[50] engines.
Advantageous Effects of Invention
The advantages of the present invention are as follows:
1- Low production expenses
2- Possibility of replacing filter after loading
3- Applicability in all of the diesel engines and machines
4- [55] Easy production technology
5- Decreasing air and sonic pollutions simultaneously
6- Initial materials for fabricating filter are in reach everywhere
7- The filter is very cheap compared to the existing filters
Brief Description of Drawings FIG. 1

Description of Embodiments
The diesel engine exhaust muffler filter according to the invention mainly [65] comprising a particular exhaust muffler and a filter body. As Fig. 3 discloses, the filter body 1 is embedded into the muffler shell 2 and secured by screwing the cap 3 to the flange 9 of the muffler shell, further comprising a tubular cartridge made of steel plate to withstand corrosion, fringed inwards at both sides to form the smooth members 1 1 resting on [70] the internal surface of exhaust muffler walls to prevent exhaust leakage, two perforated disk plates or round wire screens are attached to the internal section of the fringed segments 1 1 at both ends to facilitate the exhaust stream passing through the filter, while prevent the filtering materials escaping off the filter cartridge.
[75] The filtering materials in this invention consist of mineral stones particularly volcanic stones in the form of homogeneous granules or spherical granulated ceramic stones.
The exclusive exhaust muffler comprising the muffler shell 2, the cap 3, cupper washer 4, a number of bolts 6 and nuts 5. The muffler shell 2 [80] having a cylindrical shape made of metal plate holding a perforated ring as a flange 9 welded periphery of muffler shell at one end for attaching to the cap 3, a disk plate having a central round cranny to the exhaust pipe from another end and an exhaust pipe 7 welded to the said disk plate from one end and attached to the engine exhaust manifold [85] from another end by a clamp. The muffler shell provides a hollow chamber to place the filter body therein. The dimensions of the said chamber are proportionate to those of filter body 1 to enclose and fix the filter body. To put it more plainly, the diameter of filter cartridge is slightly smaller than that of muffler shell, while its height is slightly longer than [90] that of the muffler shell. This arrangement permits the easy
installation and replacement of filter body while ensures the filter body to be fix in exhaust muffler during the performance. The cap 3 consists of a metal disk with the perforated periphery for attaching to flange 9 by bolts 6 and nuts 5, a round central opening to tail pipe 8, and a tail pipe 8 [95] welded to cap 3 from one end and connected to atmosphere through another end. A cupper ring 4 having peripheral perforations, inserted between the cap 3 and flange 9 as a sealant. The assembly of exhaust muffler as illustrated in FIG.1 , is attached permanently to engine exhaust manifold through the pipe 7, however, the filter package can be replaced [100] when loading with the exhaust particles. This patent can be used in all of the diesel engines which are used in various heavy duty machinery, pumps and generators.
Industrial Applicability
Decreasing the air and sonic pollutions of diesel engine exhausts.
