Description

WALL CLADDING
The present invention relates to a wall cladding, comprising:
- a support structure;
- wall cladding elements;
- at least one structure securing element which is attachable to the support structure in such a way that this structure securing element is displaceable in a first direction with respect to this support structure;
- for each wall cladding element, at least one cladding securing element which forms part of this wall cladding element or is attached thereto;
wherein the structure securing element and the cladding securing element are provided with respective corresponding fitting elements for mutual attachment, wherein the structure securing element and cladding securing element are mutually displaceable in a mutually coupled position in a second direction, different from the first direction.
Such wall claddings are known, for example, from FR 2 121 393 A2, DE 196 20 134 Al and DE 44 18 291 Al .
Such wall claddings are typically used to clad walls, such as internal or external walls. However, it is also possible to configure such wall claddings in such a way that they can be used to form freestanding walls.
In this case, the wall cladding elements of such wall claddings may assume all kinds of forms, from tiles to slats, and may be made from all kinds of materials, such as wood, plastic, aluminium, etc.
Typically, the fitting element of the structure securing element or the cladding securing element is in this case fittable in the fitting element of the cladding securing element or the structure securing element, respectively, in which case these fitting elements are mutually attached by means of form-fitting securing and/or force-fitting securing.
Attaching wall cladding elements using such displaceable structure securing elements and corresponding cladding securing elements ensures a smooth installation, in which tolerances and differences in thermal expansions can be compensated for in a simple manner.
It is the object of the present invention to provide in such a wall cladding, by means of which a greater variety of possible wall cladding elements can be installed in a flexible and smooth way.
This object of the invention is achieved by providing a wall cladding, comprising:
- a support structure;
- wall cladding elements;
- at least one structure securing element which is attachable to the support structure in such a way that this structure securing element is displaceable in a first direction with respect to this support structure;
- for each wall cladding element, at least one cladding securing element which forms part of this wall cladding element or is attached thereto;
wherein the structure securing element and the cladding securing element are provided with respective corresponding fitting elements for mutual attachment, wherein the structure securing element and cladding securing element are mutually displaceable in a mutually coupled position in a second direction, different from the first direction;
and wherein the structure securing element is provided with several of said fitting elements which, viewed along the first direction, are arranged in a distributed manner with respect to each other and/or the cladding securing element is provided with several of said fitting elements which, viewed along the first direction, are arranged in a distributed manner with respect to each other, so that the structure securing element and the cladding securing element are mutually attachable at several respective fitting positions, wherein the corresponding wall cladding element assumes several corresponding positions, viewed in the plane in which the wall cladding substantially extends in the installed position. Providing such a structure securing element so as to be displaceable only allows small tolerances to be compensated for in a smooth way when attaching a wall cladding element. Such structure securing elements typically have to be arranged in virtually the correct position first. Either they have to be fixed in the desired position or the displaceability is such that relatively large displacements are prevented by friction. In the case of relatively large tolerances or variations regarding wall cladding elements, displacing such structure securing elements over a relatively large distance is a laborious undertaking.
By now additionally providing several fitting elements, so that the wall cladding elements are attachable in several corresponding positions, it is now also possible to compensate for relatively large tolerances in a smooth way. In this way, wall cladding elements can be secured smoothly in several positions. In this case, it is also possible to attach wall cladding elements of different dimensions to the support structure in a smooth way.
The said directions are in each case directions, viewed at the location of the said structure securing element. Where the support structure comprises corners or bends, these directions may differ from each other with different structure securing elements which are arranged along this support structure in a distributed manner.
The said plane is also viewed at the location of the said structure securing element.
The second direction differs from the first direction and is preferably at right angles to this first direction. The displaceable attachment means are in each case preferably constructed as slidable attachment means.
Each wall cladding element is, viewed in the second direction, preferably attached to several structure securing elements by means of one or several cladding securing elements. Furthermore, each wall cladding element is, viewed in the first direction, preferably fixed at several positions with respect to one or several structure securing elements by means of one or several cladding securing elements. In a preferred embodiment, the fitting elements are provided for mutually connecting the structure securing element and the cladding securing element by means of a click-fit connection. Such a click-fit connection makes a particularly smooth mutual connection possible.
In this case, such a click-fit connection is preferably brought about in a direction perpendicular to the said directions for the sake of ease of installation and transmission of forces.
More specifically, in order to bring about such a click-fit connection, the cladding securing element may comprise a fitting rib with a widened head as fitting element and the structure securing element may comprise a corresponding elastically displaceable fitting rib, which partly delimits a fitting slot as fitting element, for fitting the widened head therein and which is provided with an undercut, so that, when the fitting rib of the cladding securing element is fitted in the fitting slot of the structure securing element, this elastically displaceable fitting rib is forced out by means of the widened head and returns, so that the widened head of the cladding securing element engages behind the undercut in the coupled position of the cladding securing element and the structure securing element.
In this case, such an undercut prevents the fitting rib of the cladding element from becoming detached again, due to the fact that the widened head engages behind it.
As an alternative or in addition, the cladding securing element may comprise such a fitting slot which is partly delimited by an elastically displaceable fitting rib and the structure securing element may comprise a corresponding fitting rib with widened head. Preferably, the said fitting slot of the structure securing element is delimited on either side by such an elastically displaceable fitting rib.
It is then possible to provide the cladding securing element with two corresponding fitting ribs with widened heads, both of which are fittable in this fitting slot together. If desired, these fitting ribs of the cladding securing element may then also be constructed to be elastically displaceable. With a view to ease of installation, preferably only one corresponding fitting rib with widened head is fittably provided in this fitting slot.
Such elastically displaceable fitting ribs, which together delimit a fitting slot, are preferably constructed symmetrically together with the fitting slot which they delimit. The fitting rib with widened head of the cladding securing element is then preferably also constructed symmetrically.
A structure securing element with a said elastically displaceable fitting rib furthermore preferably comprises a guide element which is arranged adjacent to the elastically displaceable fitting rib or forms part thereof for guiding the widened head of the fitting rib of the cladding securing element towards the fitting slot during coupling of the cladding securing element and the structure securing element. If such a structure securing element is provided with several adjacent fitting slots, each of which is partly delimited by adjacent elastically displaceable fitting ribs, then the guide element may advantageously be configured as a guiding arc which is arranged between these two adjacent elastically displaceable fitting ribs. Such a guiding arc prevents the fitting rib of the wall cladding element from accidentally being fitted between both adjacent fitting ribs.
In a particularly preferred embodiment, the support structure comprises several securing profiles which are arranged mutually parallel along the first direction.
Such securing profiles may be manufactured, for example, by means of extrusion.
In such an embodiment, the wall cladding preferably comprises at least one said structure securing element for each securing profile. In a specific embodiment, the structure securing element is attachable to the securing profile by means of a form-fitting securing.
With a form-fitting securing, a part of the structure securing element or the securing profile may be set in a cavity of the securing profile or the structure securing element, respectively, with the form of this part being such that this part is locked in the cavity in the directions desired for attachment. These latter directions are directions in which the structure securing elements are typically loaded at the location of this connection in use.
In the case of wall claddings with securing profiles as a support structure, the wall cladding preferably comprises several structure securing elements for each securing profile which are mutually coupleable.
In this way, the securing profiles may be provided with relatively small structure securing elements along their length.
Such relatively small structure securing elements are easier to attach separately to the securing profiles than relatively large structure securing elements which are attachable to the securing profiles along a relatively large length.
By means of such relatively small structure securing elements, it is easier to compensate for irregularities in the securing profiles and/or the securing profiles can be provided with corners or bends, so that curved wall claddings and/or wall claddings with corners are more easily achievable.
If a relatively small structure securing element becomes damaged, then this can also easily be replaced separately.
When structure securing elements have thus been configured so as to be mutually coupleable, their mutual coupling preferably allows a limited mutual displacement of these structure securing elements along the first direction. In this way, it remains easy to compensate for tolerances.
Constructing this mutual coupling so as to be displaceable in the first direction may, for example, be achieved by allowing a coupling element of one component to displaceably engage in a slot of the other component which is elongated in this direction.
In a particular embodiment, the wall cladding elements are configured as slats.
Such slats may in this case be positioned horizontally, vertically or at an angle.
Such slats may be manufactured, for example, by means of extrusion, in which case the cladding securing elements may be manufactured by means of extrusion at the same time. Structure securing elements of wall claddings according to the present invention are preferably made from plastic. These may be made from one type of plastic or from several types of plastic. In this case, the plastic is preferably chosen in such a way that it can easily compensate for thermal expansions and that it is easy to produce elastically displaceable fitting ribs therewith.
In a preferred embodiment, each wall cladding element comprises a covering limb for partly overlapping an adjacent wall cladding element in the installed position. By means of such a covering limb and the displaceability in the first direction and/or the second direction, it is possible for this covering limb to more or less overlap the adjacent wall cladding element. In this way, the dimensions of the entire wall cladding can be varied and adjusted where needed, all this without the need for any unattractive openings between the wall cladding elements.
The present invention will now be explained in more detail by means of the following detailed description of some preferred wall claddings according to the present invention. The sole aim of this description is to give illustrative examples and to indicate further advantages and particulars of these wall claddings and can therefore by no means be interpreted as a limitation of the area of application of the invention or of the patent rights defined in the claims. In this detailed description, reference numerals are used to refer to the attached drawings, in which:
- Fig. 1 shows a part of a slat wall (1) according to the present invention in perspective;
- Fig. 2 shows the part from Fig. 1 in top view;
- Fig. 3 shows a securing profile (2) with two structure securing elements (4) of the slat wall (1) from Fig. 1 fitted thereto, separately and in perspective;
- Fig. 4 shows slats (3) from the wall cladding from Fig. 1 separately in top view;
- Fig. 5 shows the securing profile (2) with a structure securing element (4) and some slats (3) of the slat wall (1) from Fig. 1 separately in top view;
- Fig. 6 shows an alternative slat wall (1) according to the present invention in top view. The slat wall (1) illustrated in Figs. 1 to 5 forms a vertical, substantially straight wall. The slat wall (1) illustrated in Fig. 6 forms a vertical, substantially curved wall. Using slat walls (1) according to the present invention, it is also possible to form substantially horizontal walls, oblique walls, etc. The illustrated slat walls (1) comprise several securing profiles (2) which are arranged parallel to each other. To this end, these securing profiles (2) may, for example, be attached to a wall, either directly or, for example, in a floating way or with an intermediate structure in order to be able to fit insulation between the wall and the wall cladding. These could, for example, also be attached to posts.
In the figures, the securing profiles (2) extend substantially horizontally. These could also extend vertically and could, for example, serve as posts themselves. These securing profiles (2) could also be arranged at an angle.
The securing profiles (2) illustrated in Figs. 1 to 5 are substantially straight with regard to their length direction. The securing profile (2) illustrated in Fig. 6 is designed to curve in this direction. The illustrated securing profiles (2) may, for example, be made from aluminium by means of extrusion.
Several structure securing elements (4) are in each case attached to the securing profiles (2). To this end, the illustrated securing profiles (2) comprise two projecting flanges (14), over which hook-shaped flanges (15) of the structure securing elements (4) are hooked. In this way, the flanges (14) of the securing profiles (2) are accommodated in the structure securing elements (4) attached thereto in a form- fitting way. In this case, the structure-securing elements (4) can still slide along the length direction of the corresponding securing profile (2) with respect to this securing profile (2). If desired, this structure securing element (4) may then be fixed in the installed position with respect to this securing profile (2), for example by means of one or several screws. Each illustrated structure securing element (4) comprises several projecting fitting ribs (6). After the structure securing element (4) has been attached to a securing profile (2), these fitting ribs (6) are arranged over the length direction of this securing profile (2) in a distributed manner. These fitting ribs (6) are in each case arranged in pairs to delimit corresponding fitting slots (7) together. These fitting ribs (6) are elastically displaceable in order to temporarily enlarge the access to these fitting slots (7). Each fitting rib (6) is provided with an undercut (10) and with a guiding surface (11), the function of which will be explained further.
The structure securing elements (4) which are attached on the same securing profile (2) next to each other may optionally be coupled to each other. In that case, such a coupling preferably still allows these structure securing elements (4) to move with respect to each other over a certain distance along the length direction of the securing profile (2).
The illustrated structure securing elements (4) may, for example, be made from plastic, for example by means of injection- moulding. Furthermore, the illustrated slat walls (1) also comprise several slats (3) which are each provided with several fitting ribs (8) with a widened head (9) as cladding securing elements (5).
These slats (3) are attachable to the structure securing elements (4) by fitting these fitting ribs (8) in corresponding fitting slots (7).
When fitting the slats (3), the fitting ribs (8) thereof are guided from the structure securing elements (4) to the corresponding fitting slots (7) by means of the guiding surfaces (1 1) of the fitting ribs (6). In addition to or as an alternative to these guiding surfaces (11), guiding arcs could for example also be provided for this purpose, for example in the form of a clip which is fitted across two adjacent elastically displaceable fitting ribs (6), away from the fitting slots (7). Such a guiding arc ensures that a fitting rib (8) or a slat (3) cannot accidentally be fitted between two such elastically displaceable fitting ribs (6), away from the fitting slots (7).
When fitting the fitting ribs (8) of the slats (3) in these fitting slots (7), the widened head (9) first pushes the elastic fitting ribs (6) which delimit the corresponding fitting slot (7) away, following which these elastic fitting ribs (6) reassume their original position. In this case, each fitting rib (8) of the slat (3) is click-fitted between the elastically displaceable fitting ribs (6) of the structure securing element (4). The widened head (9) then engages behind the undercuts (10). These undercuts (10) in this case prevent this head (9) from becoming dislodged from this fitting slot (7) again. In this case, the slats (3) are then also displaceable with respect to these structure securing elements (4) along a second direction (B), at right angles to the first direction (A).
The slats (3) may be click-fitted to one or several structure securing elements (4) at several positions along the length direction of the securing profiles (2). Successive fitting slots (7) in this case define successive positions for click-fitting the slats (3). The illustrated slats (3) comprise in each case two fitting ribs (8). These slats (3) could, for example, also be wider, viewed in length direction of the securing profiles (2), in which case these may then be provided with several fitting ribs (8).
On a first longitudinal side, the illustrated slats (3) in each case comprise a covering limb (12) with which they can partly overlap an adjacent slat (3) in the installed position. To this end, the slats (3) also comprise a projecting flange (13) which is partly overlapped in this case.
Using the illustrated slats (3), a wall with successive peaks and troughs is formed. This ensures that all kinds of provisions, such as a doorbell or LED lighting or a letterbox, etc., can be incorporated into such a wall in a simple manner. Of course, slats (3) having other structures than the illustrated structure comprising peaks and troughs are also conceivable. Obviously, it is also possible to choose cladding elements with differ from slats (3).
In the figures, the illustrated slats (3) are designed to be identical to each other. Obviously, it is also possible to accommodate different kinds of slats (3) in such a slat wall (1).
The illustrated slats (3) may, for example, be made from aluminium by means of extrusion. In order to install the illustrated wall claddings (1), the securing profiles (2) may first be arranged parallel to each other. Then, the structure securing elements (4) are secured to the corresponding securing profiles (2). In each case, only the structure securing element (4) which comes first, viewed in the first direction (A), is fixed with respect to the corresponding securing profile (2), for example by means of screws. To this end, these first structure securing elements (4) are aligned with respect to each other. The other structure securing elements (4) remain slidable in the length direction with respect to the corresponding securing profile (2). The slats (3) are then click-fitted to the structure securing elements (4), in which case the structure securing elements (4) which are still displaceable will be arranged into their desired end position by sliding them. The last structure securing elements (4) to be arranged can then again be aligned with respect to each other. If their position deviates excessively from the desired position, the intermediate structure securing elements (4) may be displaced where necessary, in order to achieve the desired end position.
