Abstract

Protective fence for the go-kart tracks according to the invention includes base plates that are placed on the surface, where the track is to be set up taking into account each track's route. On their bottom side, the base plates have a lining that features a high coefficient of friction depending on the various types of surface where the go-kart tracks are set up; the base plates may also be made entirely from the high- friction coefficient material depending on each track's surface type. The base plates are available in different dimensions and are with part of their surface always reaching onto the driving surface. On top of the base plates - on their surface which is not reaching onto the driving surface - units are placed, which are attached in a detachable fashion onto the base plates. The construction and dimensions of the base plates enables execution of different curves as required by each track's planned route. Owing to the material featuring high coefficient of friction, the base plates do not need to be anchored into the ground in any additional manner to prevent slipping, meaning that after disassembling the track the surface remain intact and undamaged. Since part of the base plate's surface is always reaching onto the driving surface, whenever a vehicle happens to collide with the fence, the vehicle first drives onto the base plate's surface, thus further preventing the unit from rising above the vehicle.

Description

Protective fence for the go-kart tracks
The invention relates to improved protective fence for go-kart tracks, especially for ad-hoc track installations. Usually, go-kart tracks have a protective fence consisting of units, which are placed directly on the ground and may be interconnected in a detachable fashion. To facilitate driver safety in case go- kart hitting the protective fence, the units may be weighted and/or anchored into the floor. This prevents the protective fence from moving from its position or to rise and fall on the vehicle or driver. Since suitable attachment is usually done by using screws, i.e. by drilling holes into the ground or by hammering, the surface remains damaged and/or must undergo appropriate repairs after the track is removed.
The protective fence according to the invention includes base plates that are placed on the surface, where the track is to be set up taking into account each track's respective route. On their bottom side, the base plates have a lining that features a high coefficient of friction depending on the various types of surface where the go-kart tracks are set up; the base plates may also be made entirely from the high- friction coefficient material depending on each track's surface type. The base plates are available in different dimensions and part of their surface is always reaching onto the driving surface. On top of the base plates - on their surface which is not reaching onto the driving surface - units are placed, which are attached in a detachable fashion onto the base plates. The construction and dimensions of the base plates enables execution of different curves as required by each track's planned route. Owing to the material featuring high coefficient of friction, the base plates do not need to be anchored into the ground in any additional manner to prevent slipping, meaning that after disassembling the track the surface remains intact and undamaged. Since the part of the base plate's surface is always reaching onto the driving surface, whenever a vehicle happens to collide with the fence, the vehicle first drives onto the base plate's surface, thus further preventing the fence, i.e. units, from rising above the vehicle.
The protectives fences of traditional go-kart tracks do not include the base plates. The protective fence may consist of tires, as obstacles, that are placed directly on the group and may be interconnected. To facilitate driver safety in case go-kart hitting the protective fence, it is recommended that the tires are anchored into the ground to prevent shifting from position or bouncing onto the go-karts. Ground anchoring is done by boring holes into the ground, by screws or by hammering.
Technical solutions also include protective fencing for go-kart tracks comprised of hollow elastic polyester blocks interconnected in a detachable fashion where the blocks are loaded with water or sand for proper weight. These are the so-called "plastic safety barriers" or "block barriers". While weighting blocks with sand or water prevents them from being lifted over the vehicle upon hitting the protective fence, it does not prevent the blocks from shifting from their positions. To prevent this, the blocks are anchored into the ground.
Technical solutions also include protective fencing for roads that usually consists of tires placed directly on the ground and interconnected in various ways to absorb the energy of the colliding vehicle and to remain in place.
The patent application EP1706542 presents a protective fence comprised from a set of stacked tires interconnected using tapes, where the tires are placed directly on the ground. Longer protective fencing is made of multiple interconnected sets. Each set contains a safety feature that prevents the set from tipping over in case of collision or to roll away.
The patent application WO2012/161651 presents a protective fence comprised of friction surface made from a mesh of reinforcing bars and tires placed in parallel to each other at the extreme edge of the friction surface and interconnected with bars that run through the tires. Each of the tires is connected or attached to the surface using wires.
To facilitate adequate safety of the driver upon hitting the fence, most of the above protective fences are attached to the ground in an appropriate manner. Since suitable attachment is usually done using screws, i.e. by drilling holes into the ground or by hammering, the surface remains damaged and/or must undergo appropriate repairs after the track is removed. Additional screwing requires additional time, making the assembly and disassembly of such protective fencing time-consuming.
All the listed shortcomings are solved through the invented improved fence.
The improved protective fence for the go-kart tracks is presented below via an embodiment and on figures that show:
Figure 1 A shows the top-down view of the base plate.
Figure 1 B shows the side view of the base plate.
Figure 2 shows the exploded view of the fence for the go-kart tracks with the base plates.
The protective fence for the go-kart tracks additionally includes the base plates 1 , shown in Figures 1 A and 1 B. The base plate 1 is uniform and symmetrical along the x-axis. The front of the base plate 1 is formed as a convex 1 a part, the rear of the base plate 1 is formed as a concave 1 b part, whereby the radii of the convex 1 a and concave 1 b parts are equal, thus facilitating assembly and limited rotation of the base plates 1 . This design makes it possible to form track curves. The base plates 1 are predominately in the area of the level lower 1 c edge and the level upper 1 d edge thinned by a trimming 1 e so that it does not impede or endanger the drivers in case of contact of the go-kart wheel with the base plate 1 .
The base plate 1 has on it lower surface i.e. the surface that is in contact with the ground or the base, a lining 5 made from materials that have a high coefficient of friction depending on the type of bases on which the track is placed. Given that go-kart tracks are usually placed on asphalt or concrete, the coefficient of friction should be at least 0.75. Suitable materials are therefore rubber, reinforced rubber and other softer polymers that provide suitable friction. The lining 5 is formed at least at the outer lower 1 c and the upper 1 d edge of the base plate 1 as shown in the top-down view, along the entire length of the plate 1 , in a band of at least 100 mm in width, i.e. in other words, where the go-kart first goes over in case of collision. Alternatively, the base plate 1 may also be made entirely from the above mentioned materials.
Optionally, the base plates 1 may be interconnected in a detachable fashion. In this case, the base plate
1 has on its concave 1 b part at least one cut 2 and on the convex 1 a part a projection 3, whereby the cuts
2 and the projection 3 are shaped so that the projection 3 fits into the selected cut 2, similarly to a "puzzle" set, and the cuts 2 and projection 3 are arranged symmetrically along the x-axis. Preferably the concave 1 b part features multiple cuts 2, thus the desired rotation of one base plate 1 with respect to the other base plate 1 upon their assembly is enabled, as required to form the various curves in accordance with the characteristics of each individual track route.
When the base plates 1 are interconnected in a detachable fashion, the base plates 1 are, at least in the curved part of the track, additionally fixed with clamps to prevent undesired rotation of the base plates 1 upon collision.
The base plates 1 may be of different dimensions and are with the part 1 g of their surface always reaching onto the driving surface, whereby said parti g of the surface of the base plate 1 , is free of units 8. The part 1 g of the surface of the base plate 1 free of unit 8, extends at least 40 cm in width , from that outer edge 1 c, 1 d of the base plate 1 that is reaching onto the driving surface towards the unit 8, as seen in top-down view. This means that when units 8 are placed onto the base plates 1 , each unit 8 is at least 40 cm away from the outer edge 1 c, 1 d of the base plate 1 which is reaching onto the driving surface. This enables that upon collision of the go-kart with the unit 8, the go-kart is always in contact with at least one base plate 1 , drivers over it or remains on it, which provides additional assurance that the base plates 1 and in turn also unit 8 do not move upon collision or that unit 8 falls onto the vehicle. Figure 2 shows the elements of the protective fence for the go-kart track that include the base plates 1 . Unit 8 is placed onto the base plates 1 , preferably in the middle of the base plates 1 . The base plate 1 features connection elements 6 that that interlock with complementary elements 7, which can either be independent or part of the unit 8, and allow for detachable fastening of units 8 to the base plate 1 . The connection elements 6 and complementary elements 7 are always adapted to the chosen unit 8. In the preferred embodiment, the connection elements 6 are implemented as at least two mutually symmetrically aligned elongated holes ; the complementary element 7 is a tightening belt that is run through the elongated holes and the ends of the tightening belts are interconnected in a detachable fashion using the known methods.
Optionally, the unit 8 may be inflatable. The inflatable unit 8 is made according to the technology of inflatable products with interconnected inner walls. It is comprised of a wrapper in the form of an elongated cube and a core made from a material with interconnected inner walls. Once unit 8 is inflated, the core hardens and maintains the flat shape of the cube. The flat shape ensures smaller use of the ground surface intended for the track. Inflatability facilitates its rapid installation and disassembly, a significantly lower volume during transport or storage, which also means lower costs of transportation and transportation of larger lengths of protective fence. In the wrapper, units 8 feature connection elements 8a facilitating detachable interconnection of individual units 8 via known methods, such as by tape or belt, to achieve the desired lengths of the protective fence and for additional stability of the protective fence.
Optionally, antiabrasion plates 9 may be attached to the base plates 1 which provide additional protection to units 8 against collision damage. The antiabrasion plates 9 are placed at least on the side of units 8 that are exposed to collision. Along their edges, the antiabrasion plates 9 feature connection elements 10 for connection to the base plates 1 and connection elements 10a to interconnect the antiabrasion plates 9 according to known methods, such as by tape or belt. Preferably, the connection elements 10 are elongated holes that are implemented in the upper 9a and lower 9b edge of the antiabrasion plate 9 on the same spots and at the same spacing as the corresponding connection elements 6, i.e. the elongated holes on the base plates 1 . Preferably, the antiabrasion plates 9 are attached to the base plates 1 together with units 8 with a tightening belt that is run through the elongated holes. The connection elements 10a are preferably elongated holes implemented on the side edges 9c of the antiabrasion plate 9. Embodiment
Base plate 1 for the protective fence for the go-kart tracks as shown in Figures 1 A and 1 B, is implemented symmetrically along the x-axis. The front of the base plate 1 is formed as a convex 1 a part; the rear of the base plate 1 is formed as concave 1 b part, whereby the radii of the convex 1 a and concave 1 b part are equal. The base plate 1 is predominantly in the area of the level lower 1 c edge and the level upper 1 d edge thinned by a trimming 1 e. The base plate 1 features on its concave 1 b part five cuts 2, on its convex 1 b part a projection 3, whereby the cuts 2 and the projection 3 are arranged symmetrically along the x- axis and fit one another. Said shape of the base plate enables the selection of the desired rotation of one base plate 1 with respect to the other base plate 1 upon their assembly, as required to form the various curves in accordance with the characteristics of each track route.
The base plate 1 is preferably made from wood and has on its lower surface, i.e. the surface that is laid on the ground or the base, a lining 5 made from tartan polyurethane. The lining 5 is formed at the outer lower 1 c and the upper 1 d edge of the base plate 1 as shown in the top-down view, along the entire length of the plate 1 , in a band of 100 mm in width.
In the presented embodiment the base plate 1 has a trimming 1 e in the area of the level lower 1 c edge and the upper 1 d edge, where the thickness of the base plate 1 is gradually thinned so that the driver may drive over the base plate 1 without adverse effects.
Units 8 are attached on the middle of the base plate 1 . Part 1 g of the surface of the base plate 1 free of unit 8, extends 40 cm in width, from that outer edge 1 c, 1 d of the base plate 1 that is reaching onto the driving surface towards the unit 8, as seen in top-down view. The units 8 are inflatable and manufactured according to the technology of inflatable products with interconnected inner walls, which is why they maintain their flat shape and obtain the appropriate hardness after they are inflated. Since the units 8 are inflatable, the attachment of units 8 onto the base plates 1 is done by a tightening belt that is run around the unit 8 through the connection elements 6 on the base plate 1 , which are implemented as four symmetrically arranged elongated holes along the x-axis. The ends of the tightening belts are detachably interconnected. In the wrapper, the inflatable units 8 feature connection elements 8a facilitating detachable interconnection of individual units 8 to achieve the desired lengths of the protective fence and for additional stability of the protective fence.
Antiabrasion plates 9 are attached to the base plate 1 on both sides of the unit 8. Antiabrasion plates 9 has along their upper 9a and lower 9b edges elongated holes at equal distances and of equal shape as the elongated holes formed on the base plate 1 . Attachment of antiabrasion plates 9 is carried out at the same time as the attachment of the unit 8 with the tightening belt that is run through the elongated holes formed in the base plate 1 and the elongated holes formed in the antiabrasion plate 9 and the ends of the tightening belt are detachably interconnected. The connection elements 10a for the interconnection of the antiabrasion plates 9 are preferably elongated holes implemented on the side 9c edges of the antiabrasion plate 9.
