Figure 3 shows a second example of an implementation of the adjust- ment of the luminaire;
Figures 4A, 4B, 4C, and 4D illustrate the second example of an implementation of the adjustment of the luminaire;
Figures 5, 6A, 6B, and 7 show examples of components that may be attached to the luminaire. Description of the embodiments
Referring to Figure 1, an example of the luminaire is examined. The luminaire 100 according to the invention comprises the option to use an LED lamp providing bright light suitable for a spotlight, and/or LED lamps of one or more colors acting as decorative luminaires providing mood lighting or night lighting. The bright light and mood lights may be separately switched on and off. If desired, the lamp providing bright light may be left uninstalled and the luminaire used for providing mood lighting, only.
In an embodiment, the luminaire 100 comprises a dome 102 open at its bottom end 104 and having an opening 106 at its opposite end to allow an electric cable 108 to pass through. If desired, the luminaire may be hung by means of a handle 110. The luminaire may comprise a decorative handle 112 around the dome to which the handle may be fixed. The decorative handle may metallic or of hard plastics, for example.
The luminaire may comprise, inside the dome, a plate-like fastening part 114 whose plate-like surface is at a right angle to the symmetry axis of the dome 102, in other words, the normal of the plate-like surface is substantially parallel to the symmetry axis of the dome. One of more light units 116, 118, 120, 122 providing colored light is fixed to the plate-like fastening part 114. In an embodiment, the fastening part 114 may be fixed to the dome, on its inner surface, for ex- ample.
In the example of Figure 1, there are light units providing colored light on both sides of the plate-like fastening part, the light units 116 and 120 underneath and the light units 118 and 122 at the top. The light units may also be located on just one side and their quantity and type may vary. The light units may be so- called RGB lamps (red-green-blue). In an embodiment, the fastening part 114 is implemented as a circuit board to which the light units are installed. The light units may be of different colors and they may each comprise one or more LEDs of the same color or different colors. Example of suitable LED light units include the SMT 5050, SMD 5050 and PCD 5050 circuit board model. Other models of light units are obviously possible, too. The aforementioned ones are illustrative examples, only. The power of one light unit is typically approximately 1 W.
In an embodiment, the dome is of a translucent material such as transparent plastics or similar. The dome may also be of a specific color and/or opaque. The LED lamps of one or more colors may illuminate a ceiling and/or the surroundings through the dome.
The luminaire may further comprise a second fastening part 124. The second fastening part 124 may comprise a mounting 126 for a spotlight LED lamp or a spot LED lamp 128. Examples of the mounting types include MR16, GU5.3 and G6.35, GY35 and GZ6.35. The above are examples, only, other types are possible, too. A spotlight LED lamp may use the voltage of 12 V, and it may be dimmable or non-dimmable. In an embodiment, the spotlight LED lamp or spot LED lamp provides monochromatic light. In a second embodiment, the spotlight LED lamp or spot LED lamp provides colored light. The spotlight LED lamp may be of the MR16/GU5.3 mounting type RGB spotlight that has a built-in color adjustment mechanism and which may be remote-controllable with a separate controller.
In an embodiment, both the light units 116, 118, 120, 122 and the spotlight LED lamp operate on a 12 -volt voltage. The required transformer may be located externally to the luminaire.
The luminaire may comprise means for fixing the mounting 126 for the spotlight LED lamp in the direction of the symmetry axis of the dome at different distances from the dome end having the electrical connection. So, the spotlight LED lamp may raised and lowered in the direction of the symmetry axis of the dome as desired, depending on how it is desired to adjust the light. By raising and lowering, the extent of the area that the spotlight LED lamp illuminates may be adjusted, for example.
The adjustment of the spotlight LED lamp may be implemented in various ways. Figure 2 shows an example of an implementation of the adjustment of the luminaire. In the example solution of Figure 2, the second fastening part 124 is fixed to the plate-like fastening part 114. The mounting 126 for the spotlight LED lamp is fixed to the second fastening part 124 with one or more screws 200, 202 so that the screws clamp the mounting 126 to the second fastening part 124 so that the mounting stays in place. When the screws are loosened, the mounting 126 and consequently also the LED lamp 128 placed in the mounting may be moved in the direction of the symmetry axis of the dome to different distances from the dome end having the electrical connection, so in the case of Figure 2, up and down to the desired height. When the mounting is lowered, the bottom edge of the lamp may descend under the bottom edge of the dome, on the other hand as the mounting is raised, the bottom edge of the lamp ascends over the bottom edge of the dome, narrowing the illuminated area. The mounting 126 may comprise a groove for the screw, within the scope of which the mounting may be moved up and down to the desired height.
The dome may comprise openings 204, 206 that allow the screws 200,
202 to be accessed with a screwdriver, for example.
Figure 3 shows a second example of how the adjustment of the lumi- naire is implemented. In this embodiment, the second fastening part 124 is fixed to the dome 102 with one or more springs 300, 302. In this embodiment, the second fastening part 124 may be a plate parallel to the plate-like fastening part 114, for example.
Figures 4A, 4B, 4C, and 4D show the example of Figure 3 of the implementation of the adjustment of the luminaire in somewhat more detail. The second fastening part 124 may comprise one or more springs 300, 302 that rest pressed against the inner surface of the dome 102. The springs may be of the same material as the second fastening part, as in Figure 4A, or they may be fixed 400 to the edges of the fastening part 124, as in Figure 4B.
Figure 4C illustrates the implementation from the side in relation to Figure 4A, showing the dome 102 and the fastening part 124. The luminaire may com- prise a pin 402 in contact with each spring and extending to the outside of the dome through a gap 404 in the dome, and by means of which the second fastening part 124 may be moved in the direction of the symmetry axis of the dome to different distances from the dome end having the electrical connection.
In the situation of Figure 4A, the spring 300, 302 presses against the inner surface of the dome and the second fastening part is in place. In the situation of Figure 4D, the spring 402 in contact with each spring is pressed, whereby the spring 300, 302 gives in and detaches from the inner surface of the dome. By means of the pins, the second fastening part may be moved up and down within the scope of the gap 404.
Referring to Figure 1, in an embodiment the dome 102 of the luminaire comprises a widening 130, 132 at the open end 104. A translucent disc may be placed to be supported by the widening from above the dome. The disc is illustrated in Figure 5. The disc 500 is plate-like and comprises an opening 502 in the middle for the dome. The dome may be of a translucent material and have a varying shape. In the example of Figure 5, the disc is star-shaped. The disc may act as a reflector of light and may comprise different thicknesses.
In an embodiment, the dome 102 of the luminaire comprises fastening means at the open end 104 of the dome, such as openings in which the translucent disc may be installed when the spotlight LED lamp has not been installed in the luminaire. Figures 6A and 6B illustrate the disc. The disc 600 may comprise grip- ping means 602, 604 by means of which it may be fixed to the dome. The disc may have patterns of different kind, such as a star 606 in the example of Figure 6B.
In an embodiment, the dome 102 of the luminaire comprises fastening means at the open end 104 of the dome, such as openings or counterparts of a screw to which an embedded mount 700 of Figure 7A may be fixed with, for exam- pie, screws 702, 704. By means of the embedded mount, the luminaire may be fixed to an opening in a material so that the luminaire is at least partly within the material. In such a case, the luminaire may be adjusted up and down by adjusting the embedded mount so that the luminaire is either entirely within the material or partly outside. Figure 7B illustrates a situation where the embedded mount is in- stalled to the luminaire and fixed with the screw 702.
In an embodiment, the luminaire according to the invention comprises a wireless communications unit. The communications unit may be a Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) unit, based on the IEEE 802.11 standard, or a worldwide interoperability for microwave access (WiMAX) unit or a Bluetooth® unit. By means of the communications unit, the operation of the luminaire may be remote controlled with a smartphone or similar. For example, the light unit (116, 118, 120, 122) and/or spotlight LED lamp may be switched on and off, or their characteristics may be adjusted by remote control.
