Abstract
被検出体の近接を適切に検出し得る表示装置を提供する。表示装置は、表示領域Rを有する表示基板1において、表示領域Rより外側の領域に配置された近接センサ40と、近接センサ40と接続された端子部50とを備える。近接センサ40は、表示領域Rの周囲を囲うように離間して配置された複数の導体40a及び40bを有する。複数の導体40a及び40bは、一方の端部が端子部50と接続され、端子部50を介して所定の電圧が印加され、被検出体との間で容量を形成する。近接センサ40は、複数の導体40a及び40bが離間された離間部Dの近傍に設けられ、離間部Dにおける被検出体との間の容量を補う容量付加領域401a、401bを備える。
Description
本発明は、表示装置に関する。
近年、近接センサが設けられたスマートフォン等の携帯端末が普及している。携帯端末に設けられる近接センサは様々な用途で用いられる。例えば、通話の際に利用者の顔や耳等がスマートフォンに接近することでスマートフォンに設けられたタッチパネルが誤動作することを防止するため、近接センサで被検出体の近接を検知し、検知結果に基づいてタッチパネルを制御する(特開2015-014932号公報参照)。
近接センサには、赤外線を用いた赤外線センサや、静電容量型センサ、誘導型センサ等、様々なセンサが用いられる。近接センサとして静電容量型センサを用いる場合、例えば、携帯端末において表示領域の周囲を囲うように導体が配置される。表示パネルのサイズが大きくなるほど、近接センサの抵抗や寄生容量の制限により、1つの導体で近接センサを構成することができない。そのため、図5に示すように、複数の導体100を表示領域rの周囲に離間して配置することになる。このように複数の導体を離間して配置すると、導体100と導体100の間の領域D(以下、離間部D)近傍において、被検出体と容量結合する面積が、離間部D以外の領域において被検出体と容量結合する面積よりも小さいため、離間部D近傍の検知感度が離間部D以外の領域の検知感度よりも低下する。その結果、近接センサとしての検知感度にばらつきが生じ、被検出体が近接しているか否かを適切に検出することができない。
本発明は、被検出体の近接を適切に検出し得る表示装置を提供することを目的とする。
本発明の一実施形態における表示装置は、表示領域を有する表示基板と、前記表示基板において、前記表示領域より外側の領域に、前記表示領域の周囲を囲うように離間して配置された複数の導体を含み、所定の電圧が印加され、被検出体との間で容量を形成する近接センサと、前記近接センサに前記所定の電圧を供給する端子部と、を備え、前記端子部は、前記複数の導体の一方の端部と接続され、前記近接センサは、前記複数の導体が離間された離間部の近傍に設けられ、前記離間部における前記被検出体との間の容量を補う容量付加領域を備える。
本発明によれば、被検出体の近接を適切に検出することができる。
本発明の一実施形態における表示装置は、表示領域を有する表示基板と、前記表示基板において、前記表示領域より外側の領域に、前記表示領域の周囲を囲うように離間して配置された複数の導体を含み、所定の電圧が印加され、被検出体との間で容量を形成する近接センサと、前記近接センサに前記所定の電圧を供給する端子部と、を備え、前記端子部は、前記複数の導体の一方の端部と接続され、前記近接センサは、前記複数の導体が離間された離間部の近傍に設けられ、前記離間部における前記被検出体との間の容量を補う容量付加領域を備える(第1の構成)。
第1の構成によれば、表示装置は、表示基板における表示領域の外側に離間して配置された複数の導体を含む近接センサを備える。複数の導体の一方の端部は、所定の電圧を供給する端子部と接続されている。近接センサは、離間部における被検出体との間の容量を補う容量付加領域を有する。そのため、容量付加領域が設けられていない場合と比べ、離間部における被検出体の検知感度が向上し、被検出体の近接を適切に検知できる。
第1の構成において、前記容量付加領域は、前記複数の導体のそれぞれにおいて、前記離間部から所定の範囲内の幅が、当該所定の範囲以外の部分の幅よりも広い幅広部を有することとしてもよい(第2の構成)。
第2の構成によれば、導体の幅が均一である場合と比べ、離間部近傍において被検出体と容量結合する面積が増える。その結果、離間部における被検出体との間の検知感度が向上し、離間部以外の被検出体との間の検知感度との差が低減され、近接センサとしての検知感度のばらつきを低減できる。
第1の構成において、前記容量付加領域は、前記表示基板における前記表示領域より外側の領域において、前記離間部の近傍に配置され、前記複数の導体と同電位の補助導体を有することとしてもよい(第3の構成)。
第3の構成によれば、補助導体が設けられていない場合と比べ、離間部近傍において被検出体と容量結合する面積が増える。その結果、離間部における被検出体との間の検知感度が向上し、離間部以外の被検出体との間の検知感度との差が低減され、近接センサとしての検知感度のばらつきを低減できる。
第3の構成において、前記表示基板上に配置され、前記表示領域に画像を表示するために用いる表示用配線を含む配線群を備え、前記補助導体は、前記配線群のうち、前記表示用配線以外の少なくとも一の配線の一部を用いて構成されていることとしてもよい(第4の構成)。
第4の構成によれば、近接センサ専用の導体を別途設けることなく、表示用配線以外の配線を流用して補助導体を構成することができる。
以下、図面を参照し、本発明の実施の形態を詳しく説明する。図中同一または相当部分には同一符号を付してその説明は繰り返さない。なお、説明を分かりやすくするために、以下で参照する図面においては、構成が簡略化または模式化して示されたり、一部の構成部材が省略されたりしている。また、各図に示された構成部材間の寸法比は、必ずしも実際の寸法比を示すものではない。
図1は、本実施形態における表示装置10の断面図である。本実施形態における表示装置10は、アクティブマトリクス基板1と、対向基板2と、アクティブマトリクス基板1と対向基板2との間に挟持された液晶層3とを備える。対向基板2は、カラーフィルタ(図示せず)を備えている。また、図示は省略するが、表示装置10は、アクティブマトリクス基板1において液晶層3と反対側の面にバックライトを備えている。
表示装置10は、画像を表示する機能を有するとともに、その表示される画像の上を使用者がタッチした位置(タッチ位置)を検出する機能を有する。この表示装置10は、タッチ位置を検出するために必要な素子がアクティブマトリクス基板1に設けられた、いわゆるインセル型タッチパネル付き表示装置である。
図2は、図1に示すアクティブマトリクス基板1の概略構成を示す平面図である。図2に示すように、アクティブマトリクス基板1には、複数のゲート線32と、複数のゲート線32と交差する複数のソース線33が設けられている。ゲート線32とソース線33とで構成される画素PIXには、ゲート線32とソース線33とに接続されたスイッチング素子26と、スイッチング素子26と接続された画素電極31とが設けられている。スイッチング素子26は、例えば、TFT(Thin Film Transistor:薄膜トランジスタ)である。
対向基板2(図1参照)には、画素電極31のそれぞれに対応するように、R(赤)、G(緑)、B(青)の三色のカラーフィルタが設けられている。これにより、画素電極31のそれぞれは、RGBのいずれか一色のサブ画素として機能する。
複数のゲート線32は、アクティブマトリクス基板1の表示領域外に設けられたゲート線駆動部24と接続されている。ゲート線駆動部24は、複数のゲート線32a、32b、32c、・・・の1本ずつを順次、一水平走査期間ごとに選択状態に切り替えるためのゲート線駆動信号を印加する。
複数のソース線33は、アクティブマトリクス基板1の表示領域外に設けられたソース線駆動部25と接続されている。ソース線駆動部25は、画像の表示期間においては、ソース線33へ、表示すべき画像の階調に応じたデータ信号を供給する。
表示装置10は、液晶層3に含まれる液晶分子の駆動方式が横電界駆動方式である。横電界駆動方式を実現するため、電界を形成するための画素電極及び対向電極(共通電極とも呼ばれる)は、アクティブマトリクス基板1に形成されている。
図示を省略するが、対向電極は、アクティブマトリクス基板1の液晶層3側の面に形成されている。対向電極は、例えば1辺が4mm程度の略正方形の矩形形状であり、マトリクス状に複数配置されている。対向電極には、画素電極との間で横電界を生じさせるためのスリット(例えば数μm幅)が形成されている。
また、アクティブマトリクス基板1には、表示領域の外側に、対向電極と接続されたコントローラ(図示略)が設けられている。コントローラは、画像を表示するための画像表示制御を行うとともに、タッチ位置を検出するためのタッチ位置検出制御を行う。
さらに、アクティブマトリクス基板1には、図3に示すように、表示領域Rの外側に導体40a、40bからなる近接センサ40が設けられている。導体40a、40bは、表示領域Rの周囲を囲うように離間して配置されている。
アクティブマトリクス基板1において、導体40aと導体40bとの隙間である離間部Dが設けられた辺と対向する上の辺には端子50が設けられ、導体40a、40bのそれぞれと端子50とが接続されている。端子50には、導体40a及び40bを駆動する制御回路(図示略)が接続される。導体40a及び40bは、端子50を介して制御回路から所定の電圧が印加され、誘電体である被検出体との間で容量を形成する。制御回路は、導体40a及び40bにおける容量変化に基づいて、所定の距離に被検出体が近接しているか否かを検知する。
図3において、導体40aは、離間部Dからx軸方向の所定の範囲の部分が幅広な幅広部401aを有する。幅広部401aは、導体40aにおける他の部分よりも幅が広くなっている。幅広部401aの大きさは、予め定められた被検出体の大きさ及び表示装置10のサイズに応じて任意に定められる。この例において、幅広部401aの幅は、導体40aにおける幅広部401a以外の幅の約2倍であり、幅広部401aが設けられる上記所定の範囲の長さは約7cm~11cm程度である。
なお、導体40bも、導体40aと同様、離間部Dから所定の範囲の部分が幅広な幅広部401bを有し、幅広部401bの大きさは幅広部401aと同様である。
このように、離間部Dの近傍に幅広部401a及び401bを設けることにより、幅広部401a及び401bが無い場合と比べ、離間部D近傍において被検出体と容量結合する面積が増え、離間部D近傍の被検出体との間の容量を増やすことができ、離間部Dにおける被検出体の検知感度を上げることができる。
なお、本実施形態における表示装置10は、コントローラ(図示略)の制御の下、画像の表示とタッチセンサとしての対向電極(図示略)の駆動とを時分割で行う。つまり、対向電極は、タッチパネルとしての動作時には、それぞれが独立したセンサとして駆動され、ディスプレイとしての動作時には、後述する画素電極と対になって、画像表示制御を行う。また、表示装置10は、導体40a及び40bと接続された制御回路(図示略)の制御の下、タッチの検出が行われていない期間に、導体40a及び40bに所定の電圧を印加し、被検出体が近接しているか否かを検知する。
上述した第1実施形態では、離間部Dにおける容量を補うための容量付加領域として、導体40a及び導体40bのそれぞれにおいて、離間部Dから所定の範囲に幅広部401a及び幅広部401bを備える。幅広部401a、401bが設けられることで、離間部Dにおいて被検出体と容量結合する面積が増え、離間部Dにおける検知感度を向上させることができる。その結果、導体40aと導体40bにおいて、離間部Dと、離間部D以外の領域における検知感度の差が低減され、適切に被検出体の近接を検出することができる。
[第2実施形態]
本実施形態では、第1実施形態とは異なる構成により、離間部Dにおける検知感度を向上させる例を説明する。

図4は、本実施形態におけるアクティブマトリクス基板1Aに設けられた近接センサ410の構成例を示す平面図である。なお、図4において、第1実施形態と同様の構成には第1実施形態と同じ符号を付している。以下、第1実施形態と異なる構成を主として説明する。
図4に示すように、近接センサ410は、導体41a及び41bと、導体41a及び41bのそれぞれと接続された補助導体42a及び42bとから構成される。
導体41a及び41bは、上述した導体40a及び40bと同様、一方の端部が端子50に接続され、表示領域Rの周囲を囲うように離間して配置されている。導体41a及び41bの幅は略均一である。
補助導体42aと42bは、離間部Dにおいて離間して配置され、導体41a及び導体41bの一部と略平行に配置されている。
このように、離間部Dの近傍に、導体41a及び41bに接続された補助導体42a及び42bを設けることで、補助導体42a及び42bが無い場合と比べ、離間部D近傍において被検出体と容量結合する面積が増える。そのため、離間部D近傍における被検出体の検知感度が向上し、離間部Dと離間部D以外の位置における被検出体の検知感度のばらつきを低減することができる。
なお、補助導体42a及び42bは、近接センサ410のために設けられたものであってもよいし、離間部Dの近傍において、導体41a及び41bと並列し、他の用途に用いるために予め設けられた配線の一部であってもよい。このような配線の例としては、例えば、アクティブマトリクス基板1Aの生産時の検査に用いるために予め設けられた検査用配線群、アクティブマトリクス基板1Aの不具合を修正するために予め設けられた予備配線群、表示領域R内に配置される素子を保護するための接地されたグランド配線(いずれも図示略)等が挙げられる。これらの配線を補助導体42a及び42bとして用いる場合には、所定の長さとなるように予め切断される。
また、補助導体41a及び41bは、これら配線の一つを用いて構成されてもよいし、互いに隣接する複数の異なる配線を組み合わせて構成されてもよい。例えば、導体41a、41bから近い順にグランド配線、予備配線群、検査用配線群が並列している場合、グランド配線と予備配線群とを組み合わせて補助導体としてもよいし、グランド配線と予備配線群と検査用配線群とを組み合わせて補助導体としてもよい。
補助導体42aと導体41a、補助導体42aと導体41bのそれぞれの間の距離と、補助導体42a及び42bのそれぞれの大きさ(幅及び長さ)は、例えば、予め定めた被検出体の大きさや、表示装置10内の他の素子との間の容量等に応じて任意に決められる。
上記第2実施形態では、離間部Dの近傍に配置された補助導体42aと補助導体42bが離間部Dにおける容量を補う容量付加領域として機能する。そのため、補助導体42a及び42bが設けられていない場合と比べ、離間部Dにおける被検出体との間の容量を増やすことができ、近接センサ410としての検知感度のばらつきを低減することができる。
以上、本発明の一実施形態に係る表示装置について説明したが、本発明に係る表示装置は、上述した実施形態の構成に限定されず、様々な変形構成とすることができる。
(1)上述した第1実施形態では、図3に示す幅広部401a及び401bの幅が略均一である例を説明したが、幅広部401a及び401bの幅は均一でなくてもよい。幅広部は、離間部Dにおける被検出体との間の容量を補うように、導体40a及び40bにおいて離間部Dの近傍に、導体40a及び40bの幅が広くなっている領域があればよい。
Claims (4)
- 表示領域を有する表示基板と、
前記表示基板において、前記表示領域より外側の領域に、前記表示領域の周囲を囲うように離間して配置された複数の導体を含み、所定の電圧が印加され、被検出体との間で容量を形成する近接センサと、
前記近接センサに前記所定の電圧を供給する端子部と、を備え、
前記端子部は、前記複数の導体の一方の端部と接続され、
前記近接センサは、前記複数の導体が離間された離間部の近傍に設けられ、前記離間部における前記被検出体との間の容量を補う容量付加領域を備える、表示装置。 - 前記容量付加領域は、前記複数の導体のそれぞれにおいて、前記離間部から所定の範囲内の幅が、当該所定の範囲以外の部分の幅よりも広い幅広部を有する、請求項1に記載の表示装置。
- 前記容量付加領域は、前記表示基板における前記表示領域より外側の領域において、前記離間部の近傍に配置され、前記複数の導体と同電位の補助導体を有する、請求項1に記載の表示装置。
- 前記表示基板上に配置され、前記表示領域に画像を表示するために用いる表示用配線を含む配線群を備え、
前記補助導体は、前記配線群のうち、前記表示用配線以外の少なくとも一の配線の一部を用いて構成されている、請求項3に記載の表示装置。
