Abstract
The present invention is directed to a beach umbrella comprising a connector. The connector comprises: a) an upper part (20) having a larger diameter than the remaining part of the connector, and a cavity capable of hosting the inferior part of the upper pole of the beach umbrella; b) a lower part (30) of the connector (10) having a smaller diameter and being suitable to be inserted in the upper part of the lower pole. The daily beach umbrella comprises the above described connector, a upper pole and a lower pole (100) of the umbrella comprising a lever (120) hinged to the lower pole (100), and wherein said lever comprises a terminal (130) having shape such that it engages groove (40) of connector (10) once the lever is lowered.
Description
Beach Umbrella comprising a connector
[0001]. Beach umbrellas fall into two main categories: one type is the bathhouse umbrella, whose installation usually lasts all bathing period; the second type is the common daily carried one, i.e. the umbrella used during the day which has to be mounted, unmounted and carried off from the beach each time it is used.
[0002]. In order to make the daily beach umbrella handy, the umbrella pole is separated in two parts. The lower part fixable to the ground, and the upper part comprising the umbrella, connected to the lower part once it has been fixed to the ground. A typical problem of the daily carried beach umbrella is that they are difficult to use even in the moderate wind because of the risk of having the beach umbrella fly away.
[0003]. WO 2015/063803 discloses a beach umbrella which is easily installed in the sand thanks to the presence of side fins and a central hole at the lower end of the lower pole, and a lever with rotary knob on the upper end of the lower pole. This type of lower terminal of the pole makes the grip with sand very strong and avoids the removal of the lower pole of the umbrella from the sand even in the presence of strong wind.
[0004]. However, if the lower pole is strongly fixed to the sand, there is the risk of separation between the upper part and the lower one. To avoid this problem, WO 2016/120036 discloses a fixing system for daily beach umbrella, which system allows a secure fastening of the two parts of the beach umbrella. The system comprises: a groove on the lower part of the upper pole of the beach umbrella, and a locking lever on the upper part of the lower pole which, once in locked position, fits the groove of the upper pole. Although this system is very effective, it makes the beach umbrella more expensive since the manufacturing of the groove is not simple in case of metallic poles. Furthermore, the upper pole of this beach umbrella ends with a metallic pipe, which is dangerous for use in the presence of children, as it is typical on the beach.
[0005]. The present invention is directed to a method for securely fixing the upper and the lower pole of a beach umbrella, which method comprises the use of a third element which connects the lower pole to the upper pole. This connection element (10) is preferably fitted with the upper pole, for example by a pressure mechanism, and with the lower pole by a reversible mechanism, for example a locking lever, as discloses in WO 2016/120036, which is herewith incorporated by reference. The connection element (10) is preferably made of plastic, for example polyethylene, polypropylene, polyester, polyamide; in order to obtain a good resistance and durability, polyamide
is particularly preferred; the connection element allows an easier and cheaper process for manufacturing the beach umbrella and at the same time, once inserted in the upper pole, makes the upper pole safer since it covers the metallic end of the upper pole.
[0006] Figure 1 shows a preferred embodiment of the connection element (10) which has a larger upper part (20) with a cavity which houses the lower part of the upper pole. The lower part (30) of the connector (10) has a smaller diameter and is suitable to be inserted into the upper part of the lower pole. The figure shows the groove (40) which is present in the lower part (30) of the element (10) and allows the firm connection between the connector (10) and the lower pole. In this preferred embodiment, the grove (40) is made with sharp edges, more preferably forming 90° angles.
[0008] Figure 2 shows a section of the upper part of the lower pole (100) comprising a hinge (110) to connect the lever to the pole (100)
[0009]. Figure 3 shows the lever (120), which comprises a terminal (130) having a shape such that it engages groove (40) of connector (10) once the lever is lowered. Preferably, the terminal of the lever has the shape of a beak, as shown in figure 3.
[0010]. Figure 4 shows a section view of the beach umbrella with the three parts mounted, with the beak terminal (130) ready to engage groove (40).
[0011]. Preferably, groove (40) is uniformly present all around connector (10) at a distance from the bottom of connector (10) preferably comprised between 1 and 20 cm, more preferably between 2 and 15 cm, even more preferably between 3 and 10 cm, and has a width comprised between 0.5 and 5 cm, more preferably between 1 and 3 cm. The depth of groove (40) is not particularly important, as long as it is enough to engage the lever. Depth comprised between 0.15 and 0.5 cm are particularly preferred.
[0012]. Preferably, the lever has a length comprised between 8 and 30 cm, more preferably between 10 and 25 cm, even more preferably between 12 and 22 cm.
