Description

PROTECTION SYSTEM AGAINST SOLAR RADIATION
The invention relates to the construction industry and represents a structure for protection against or reduction of the negative effect of unwanted solar radiation on commercial, cultural, and recreational facilities, as well as for making people's stay comfortable at these facilities. The technical solution is of greatest interest for protection of stadium grass turfs, tennis courts, problem areas of golf courses, park lawns, etc. against unwanted solar radiation. According to one of its embodiments, the invention also can be used as a light pavilion and will be helpful for shading trade platforms, the platforms of summer cafes and restaurants, etc. The spectacular vibe of any sport event is always complemented by a thick bright and vibrant grass lawn on which the event takes place. The cultivation of a grass lawn is complex and hard work that takes much time, money and physical efforts. Nevertheless, even if all the agrotechnical requirements for the cultivation of grass plants are met and strong varieties are selected, all the efforts directed towards obtaining the desired result may be insufficient due to the long-term excessive influence of solar radiation on the grass turf. In most cases, the only way to mitigate these negative effects is to use artificial shading for grass lawns.
Prior art
A system to create a multifunctional cloth cover for sport facilities which is foldable/unfoldable with the help of fixed rails is known from Japanese patent application JP H0856816 A dated March 05, 1996. Significant disadvantages of such a system include its non-uniformity, complexity of use and high cost due to the need for production using individual designs for each specific facility.
A device to protect grass lawns against solar radiation which, in particular, includes a tent made of a translucent material to be fixed on a frame made of a flexible material is also known from the art (WO 2014196946 Al dated December 11, 2014). However, this technical solution only allows solving the problem of grass lawn protection for a short time because the proposed structure requires dismantling to perform grass turf maintenance procedures (watering, introducing fertilizers and protective substances for plants, replacement of damaged sections, grass cutting, marking, etc.)
Covers arranged at certain heights to provide shade, allowing the stuff and machines access to the shaded areas, are also known from the art. In such cases shading is done by stretching protective cloths by the ends or sides on supporting structures or by unfolding and fixing them on strained ropes or cables.
For example, such a technical solution is disclosed in the description of a cover for the protection of grass on football fields, cultivated areas, parking places, etc. (application for invention ES 2187283 Al dated June 16, 2003). The said cover is an accordion-folded cloth made of tarpaulin or another material with attached sheaves for sliding along guide wires to facilitate its manual folding/unfolding. These wires are permanently attached to the stadium or amphitheater stands or to the posts of any suitable structure in case of agricultural fields. The main disadvantage of the said structure is that its holding wires or cables have to be dismounted after the use of the cover, which results in the need to involve technical facilities and staff.
The closest analogue of the claimed technical solution is the covering device known from international patent application WO 2008102141 Al dated August 28, 2008. The described system comprises the main unit with the shade screen hung to the elements of the structure situated adjacent to the area to be shaded and at least one pull unit with a rope to stretch the cloth attached on dedicated supports in the opposite part of the working area. At the same time, this unit may be provided with a motor to pull the cloth from the main unit. The main unit includes a shaft to wind the cloth, an electric drive to rotate it and a protective casing fixed on the element of the structure to protect the cloth when it is not used. The system is equipped with automatic monitoring and control devices. The main disadvantage of the said technical solution is its unsuitability for use with large areas of grass lawns at sports facilities since such operations as supply and connection of pullout cables require manual manipulations. While attempting to scale this technical solution to the size of stadium or a golf course, the specialist will have to solve the problem of supplying or pulling the pullout cables to the main unit with the shading cloth located on the remote opposite side of the area to be shaded. Naturally, the pulling of pullout cables by the workers from one unit to another over the field and stands is complex and ineffective, especially while agrotechnical works or workouts take place on the field.
The analysis of prior art has shown that known analogues of the claimed technical solution require a significant amount of staff (up to 15 persons), who have to move on the grass lawn, which results in its damage, to perform the operations of cable mounting between beams, fixation, pulling and mounting of cloths manually. Manual pulling of holding cables may result in damage to the equipment of the viewing stands. In addition, the mounting/dismantling of the system takes 5-7 hours and is accompanied by hard physical work, while the dismantled system itself needs place for storage and use of transport for its transportation.
In view of the specified disadvantages of the cited prior art objects, the invention is based on the task of creating an easy-to-use and highly effective system for grass lawn shading which will ensure prompt and cost-effective creation of shade with regard to the power and human resources employed.
Brief description of invention
The invention presented discloses a system designed for protection of various facilities against solar radiation. The system may be most advantageous for shading large areas with a grass turf such as sports event fields, park lawns, etc., where using human physical forces for deploying the system's components is complicated or unreasonable. The implementation of the technical solution proposed is ensured by unfolding the sunscreen cloth alongside and transverse to the object's axis at the height to ensure sufficient ventilation under the cloth and the opportunity to carry out agrotechnical and other works and actions involving people and machinery. The system may be designed fully automated or semi-automated and installed permanently on building components or dedicated supports. Due to the new design of system's structural elements and connections between them, a highly effective device with technical features not typical of the analogues known from the prior art was developed.
Detailed description of invention
The task laid in the basis of the invention is solved by creating a protection system against solar radiation including: at least one main unit with the sunscreen material and at least one coupled unit with pullout cables hung opposite to each other. The peculiarity of the system is that at least one main unit with the sunscreen material additionally contains holding cables that bear this cloth and the system additionally contains at least one mobile unit with a service cable designed to supply and connect pullout cables with holding cables that bear the sunscreen material.
One of improvements of the system, according to the invention, is the structure of the main unit, which includes the sunscreen material itself and the holding cables that bear it. This is one of the significant features of the invention, which determines the availability and structural design of the other elements of the system, which, in their new combination, are new and ensure effective functioning of the system and the achievement of an improved technical result. Unlike what is known from the prior art, the main unit makeup discussed allows using a simple but effective structural assembly - a mobile unit with a service cable which, after being used to unfold the first section of sunscreen material, can be used to unfold the next one. Thus, the larger the area to be shaded and the larger the number of units in the system to be used to do it, the higher is the effectiveness of the system per unit of shaded area. Such advantage of the claimed system determines the best options for its use, which includes football fields or golf courses, park lawns, etc. In addition, a number of additional technical advantages consisting in the possibility of combining operations to fix two structural elements simultaneously on a support, which previously involved two separate operations, are achieved. Similarly, during the unfolding or folding of the sunscreen material, the opportunity to unfold/fold the holding cables bearing it simultaneously is ensured. In the case described, the sunscreen material and holding cables are used as a single structural element while retaining their own separate functionality and the possibility of implementing their immediate purposes.
In one of the embodiments of the invention proposed, the main unit may be configured as winding pulleys with drives for winding the sunscreen material and holding cables. The ends of the holding cables are equipped with connecting mechanisms. In another embodiment, the main unit may be configured as a compact receptacle where the sunscreen material and cables will be folded in a special way. This "special way" within the context of the presented technical solution means such folding that allows folding/unfolding the material quickly and an opportunity to form space- saving packing for the material's storage, particularly such when the cables and material may be accordion-folded and then wound on the pulley. In the preferred version, the main unit may be equipped with electromechanical devices to pull up holding cables and sunscreen cloths.
The coupled unit is an essential significant feature of the claimed protection system against solar radiation. This is the process module where pullout cables wound on drive pulleys are stored when they are not used. The main and coupled units are arranged on opposite parts of the site to be shaded and depending on the conditions or tasks, they can be mounted on both longitudinal or transversal sides of this site. Both units are equipped with decorative protective casings, a power supply system, technical process automation and dispatching control elements.
Within the context of this invention, "pullout cables" mean any number of separate cables needed to avoid twisting of the sunscreen material during unfolding. Practice has shown that two cables are sufficient for such purpose, but depending on the system's embodiments, their number in the unit can be higher. Using only one cable is also possible if it is equipped with additional stabilizing appliances. Within the further description and the claims section, the feature of "pullout cables" should be understood in precisely this interpretation.
The proposed structure of the main unit has enabled the creation of a new technical joint with the coupled unit. Such a joint is equipped with a mobile unit with a service cable - simple to configure but effective in use. This unit consists of two mobile mechanisms capable of moving simultaneously, one moving within the main unit, the other one moving within the coupled unit with pullout cables. The connection between the mobile mechanisms is ensured with the service cable, which may be configured both as a circumferential cable and as a single cable.
The practical implementation of mobile mechanisms according to one of the possible embodiments of the system is done using two slide elements equipped with electric drives and capable of moving on the monorails along the longitudinal axis of the main and coupled units. The monorail is, as a rule, mounted on the same structural elements or supports on which the main unit and the coupled unit are mounted and in the immediate vicinity of them. The term "in the immediate vicinity" used to describe this assembly of the system implies the possibility of using differently configured and arranged versions of monorails, whose choice in specific cases may be due to landscape, the structures of the buildings, the available supports, materials etc. The most reasonable option is to make monorails directly over or under the main and coupled units and along them.
The automatic connecting device is moved from one slide element to another with the service cable. The automatic connecting device ensures the capture of pullout cables equipped with connecting mechanisms, their movement to the main unit and their attachment to the holding cables that bear the sunscreen material and whose ends are equipped with connecting mechanisms similarly to the pullout cables. Then, using the electromechanical device of the coupled unit, pullout cables are wound and, in their turn, unwind or unfold the holding cables with the sunscreen material. A significant peculiarity of the proposed sunscreen system that determines its main advantages lies in the fact that the slide elements with the service cable are moved to the next pair of the main and coupled units after the ends of the holding cables and the pullout cables are attached, and the operations described above are repeated. The unfolding and folding of the protective system is performed in the reverse order. Therefore, equipping the known system with a mobile unit with a service cable and placing the sunscreen material in one unit with the holding cables bearing it allows unfolding the sunscreen system quickly.
Two pairs of slide elements with service cables that are moved in opposite directions during the unfolding and folding of the protection system may be used in the system. Pairs consisting of the main and coupled units may be mounted in a staggered manner, which will decrease the number of moves of the mobile unit with the service cable. Such a process combination reduces the time needed to unfold/fold the protective system by 4 times.
The simultaneous unfolding of holding cables with the sunscreen material allows avoiding the stages of pulling up the holding cables or wires traditionally known from the prior art and preceding the further unfolding of the cloth and spending additional time and staff efforts, protecting the grass field and stadium equipment against the damage related to the movement of the workers who unfold the system.
A significant advantage of the system is that folding of the cloth with holding cables can be done simultaneously with all units so that only pullout cables will remain above the surface. This crucial function is very helpful when there is a need to fold the cloth quickly, e.g. in case of sudden change of weather conditions (acceleration of wind, rain, clouds) or for the night.
When there is no more need to use the system claimed, it can be returned to the initial position in reverse order. Then, the use of the proposed technical solution eliminates the need for permanent placement of stretched cables, wires, ropes and other equipment over sports facility lawns or other areas used; there is no need to transport and store the equipment, and folding the system does not require moving on the grass turf or stands. The single service rope can be rather easily removed or, if a semi-annular monorail is used, moved to one point along with the slide elements, where they will be covered with a decorative protective casing. It also can be moved to the edge of the site or close to the elements of the building where it will be invisible or at least not cause any significant inconvenience.
The said benefits of the claimed device are implemented due to the significant features stated in the independent claims, combined into a set unexpected in comparison with the prior art and due to the possibility of developing these features in various preferred embodiments.
Another preferred embodiment of the practical implementation of mobile mechanisms can be implemented using service trolleys with handling masts which can be moved along passages or walkways, correspondingly, along the suspended main and coupled units and under the operator's supervision and control. In such embodiment the mobile unit with the service cable contains connecting mechanisms which are used to connect pullout cables with holding cables and the pullout cable with the service cable manually or with a connecting device.
The service cable is mounted on handling masts of service trolleys. It includes two mechanical mounts for the pullout cable and it is designed to supply pullout cables to the main unit for automatic connection or manual connection of holding cables with pullout cables. Handling masts and service trolleys are equipped with the units, electric winches, remote control and accumulators necessary in such case.
The proposed embodiment of the system is simpler to manufacture and useful when the mobile embodiment of the device, which requires frequent transportation, is employed. At the same time, the operation of such embodiment of the device requires more service stuff and far greater coordination of actions.
Besides the main significant features of the presented invention, the claimed system may be also complemented with a number of technical improvements which may extend or reveal its main advantages better.
In the preferred embodiment the main and coupled units include winding pulleys with drives to wind holding cables and pullout cables or the drive mechanism folding the sunscreen cloth respectively.
In another preferred embodiment at least one main unit and one coupled unit are equipped with containers to store the ropes, pullout cables and sunscreen cloth during the non-operating period.
Special sensors may be provided to control the degree of tension of the holding cables.
The protection system against solar radiation may also be equipped with such an integral feature of the modern machinery as the automatic process control system (APCS). The APCS may be configured as a complex cabinet module with a separately connected operator panel. It is recommended that the system include electric power equipment, electronic switching elements, the main computer, and a remote weather station in its preferred embodiment.
Another additional advantage of the claimed system is that the height at which the main and pull units are suspended is sufficient to carry out agricultural works, train athletes, hold rehearsals and other activities on the shaded surface.
The system provides for different levels of shading of the selected area, which is achieved by using a material with different degrees of sunlight reflection and partial shading of the field by selectively unfolding cloths over certain field areas.
The claimed system is controlled by one employee using a mobile or a stationary remote control device. The maintenance of the system is done by several employees.
The following figures provide a more detailed disclosure of the invention.

Figures 1 and 2 show a general view of the system for protection against solar radiation in different projections, showing the number of main units (4) suspended on supporting masts (11). Fig. 1 shows one of the main units (4) during the unfolding process, with the decorative protective casing (16) opened, while in the receptacle of the main unit (4) there is the cloth (6) folded in a special way and cables (5) that hold it. On the opposite side of the stadium there are coupled units (10) that are placed on supporting masts (11) and contain pullout cables (9). Monorails (2) designed for moving slide elements (3) are mounted along the row of main (4) and coupled (10) units and above them on the masts (11). Slide elements (3) are connected with the service cable (1), used for supply and return of the automatic connecting device (8) (in case of the automatic system) equipped with an automatic connecting mechanism (7) or with lifting carbines only instead of connecting mechanisms (7) (in case of the semi-automatic system).
Among other components of the system, Fig. 2 shows a close view of a row of coupled units (10), each one having a service module where pullout cables (9) wound on drive pulleys are stored. The coupled unit (10) can be connected to the power supply system and the automatic process control system (not shown). The coupled unit (10) is equipped with the stationary decorative casing that covers its mechanisms during the non-operating period and ensures compliance with safety regulations and aesthetics. Another element that is shown in Fig. 1-3 is the mast (11). This is a steel supporting structure designed as a wide frame which may consist of two connected columns (11), the beam (15) that connects them and stretching ropes (22) in the places where columns are located. The frame rests on reinforced concrete foundations (12) and anchor foundations (13) with incorporated anchors (14) for stretching ropes (22). All elements of the system mounted on masts except for foundations are portable and can be quickly assembled / disassembled and easily moved from one place to another or to other facilities. Masts (11), including all their components, may be additionally equipped with dedicated containers to store the structures during the non-operating period. Fig. 3 shows the enlarged view of the main unit (4) with a possible embodiment of the decorative casing (16). The casing (16) forms a secure receptacle for storing the sunscreen cloth (6) and holding cables (5), which provides additional benefits for the proposed system because there is no need to transport unit components to the place of storage and at the same time it extends their service life by reducing their excessive wear. This embodiment is especially preferable in case when it is configured as a part of the design style of the structure where it is used, for example, to emphasize the architectural forms of the structure or, conversely, to change the style. However, these elements can also be of use for other purposes, particularly as additional space for placing club symbols, logos, slogans or advertising. Fig. 3 also shows an enlarged image of a slide element (3), that according to the preferred embodiment consists of the main moving drive on the monorail (2), the electric winch for the service cable (1), a positioning system, accumulators and contactors (not shown in the figure).
Fig. 4 shows an example of how elements of the system for protection against solar radiation are fixed on the structural elements of the stands of a sports arena. For such an embodiment it is better to use the holding parts (17) of the stadium stands (18) that are, as a rule, placed symmetrically in such structures. The view a) in fig. 4 shows part of the system in the unfolded state, its top view, where elements of the stadium (17), the sunscreen cloth (6) and holding cables (5) are depicted. The view b) schematically shows the main unit (4), the mobile unit's slide element with the service cable which is installed on the monorail, the service cable (1), the holding cables (5), and the sunscreen cloth (6). The difference between the system embodiments b) and c) is that service trolleys (19) which move in the aisles of the stadium stands (18) are used instead of slide elements (3).
Fig. 5 shows the embodiment of the mobile unit with a service cable involving service trolleys (19). The distinctive feature of this device is that its trolleys (19) are equipped with a handling mast (20) of variable height, preferably telescopic. The view a) shows the trolley in the initial position in which it is transported or stored in standby mode. In this case the telescopic handling mast (20) is in retracted position. During the operational period, service trolleys (19) are moved apart to different sides of the system and placed opposite the main (4) and coupled (10) units and in the immediate vicinity of them. Handling masts (20) are designed to ensure the supply of pullout cable clamping (9) at the height of the coupling unit (10) and to ensure balance the sagging height of the cables (9). To this end, they are pulled out to ensure the required height as it is shown for embodiments b) and c) in figure 5. Two trolleys (19) placed at opposite edges of the system are connected with a service cable (1), which runs through units (21) mounted on handling masts (20). The service cable (1) has mechanical fasteners for the pullout cable (9). The pullout cable (9) can be connected with the service cable (1) manually or using the connecting device (8).
To unfold the system mounted on supports one should perform the technological operations known in the prior art, such as the removal or opening of the protective casings and other covers or cases, connecting the power supply, pulling the service cable (1) between service trolleys (19) or slide elements (3) if the service cable (1) was dismounted for the non-operating period. In the case of a mobile mechanism made using mobile slide elements (3) an automatic connecting device (8) is mounted on the service cable and moved forward right up to the coupled unit (10) with connecting mechanisms (7) placed at the ends of the pullout cables (9) directed towards the respective connecting mechanisms (7) of the automatic connecting device (8). When contacting, the two connecting mechanisms (7) interlock and the automatic connecting device (8) is moved to the opposite side of the shaded area to the main unit (4) with the help of the service cable (1) and the pulleys on slide elements (3) while pulling pullout cables (9). In a way similar to the pullout cables (9), the holding cables (5) are also equipped with a connecting mechanism (7) directed towards the automatic connecting device (8). When the latter approaches the main unit (4) closely, the connecting mechanisms (7) lock automatically at the ends of pullout cables (9) and holding cables (5). After this the automatic connecting device (8) is released from connecting mechanisms (7) and is moved along the monorail (2) to the next pair of main (4) and coupled units (10) by means of slide elements (3) and the service cable (1). When the automatic connecting device (8) is located in the necessary position in relation to them, it is moved to the coupled unit (10) once again, repeating the previous cycle of operations or moved to the end of monorail (2) at the end of the process. At the same time drives of the coupled unit (10) on the previous couple of units are switched on by winding back pullout cables (9). Along with that, unwinding of cables (5) carrying the sunscreen cloth (6), which unfold or roll out the sunscreen cloth (6) from the receptacle under tension of pullout cables (9), takes place on the main unit (4). Winding of pullout cables (9) is done until the sunscreen cloth (6) takes the required position. The cycles continue until all sunscreen cloths (6) are unfolded from the main units (4) or the required number of these cloths is unfolded; then the slide elements (3) are moved to the ends of the monorail. Folding of the system is carried out in reverse order and started with an order to wind the holding cables and fold the sunscreen cloth (6). Cloths (6) can be folded both one by one or all at once or in any other sequence, depending on the need to reduce the shaded area or density of shading. During folding, the holding cables (5) also pull pullout cables (9) that prevent the ends of holding cables (5) from sagging and dragging. After folding the sunscreen cloth (6), the ends of holding cables (5) and pullout cables (9) are disconnected one by one, whereas the ends of the pullout cables (9) are connected with the service cable (1), which is supplied to the selected pair of the main (4) and coupled units (10) using a pair of slide elements (3). The next step is to roll up the pullout cables (9), whose ends will be held by the service cable (1) preventing pullout cable (9) from sagging and dragging. When pullout cables (9) are rolled up, the service cable (1) can be dismounted or arranged in one of the ways described above.
When the system is embodied with service trolleys (19) and handling masts (20), such trolleys are moved along the passages or walkways, along the suspended main (4) and coupled units (10) respectively. When trolleys are equipped with an automated connecting device (8), whereas pullout cables (9) and holding cables (5) are equipped with connecting mechanisms (7), subsequent operations are identical to operations for the automated system. When trolleys are not equipped with an automatic connecting device (8) and pullout cables (9) and holding cables (5) are not equipped with connecting mechanisms (7), pullout cables (9) are connected manually with holding cables (5), just like the pullout cable with the service cable (1). The pullout cable (9) is connected to the service cable (1) in two points. At the moment when the pullout cable (9) is pulled to the main unit (4) the operator disconnects the fastener of the end of the pullout cable (9) and connects it to the holding cable (5). By controlling the drive of the main unit (4), the operator pulls up pullout cables (9). When the weight of the holding cable is subjected to the fastener, the operator disconnects another fastener of the pullout
(9) and service cables (1). Thus, the operator does not subject the weight of the pullout cable (9) on themselves while mounting. The operation is repeated after operators move the service trolleys simultaneously to the next unit pair of the main (4) and coupled units
(10) . Unfolding of the sunscreen cloths (6) with holding cables (5) is done by winding pullout cables (9), mostly using electromechanical devices of the coupled unit (10). All the other operations are the same as the operations for the automated system embodiment.
An example of a specific embodiment
For the actual implementation of the design of the claimed structure of the protection system against solar radiation we have chosen a football field lawn with dimensions of 105x68 m and the total area of the natural grass turf of 8,000 sq. m. The task set was to create a sunscreen shade over the grass turf which will cover it entirely with a certain allowance.
We used the posts of the sports arena building, which is designed for over 52,000 seats, as a bearing structure for the sunscreen system.
Main and coupled units were installed on bearing structures of the stands on both sides along the longitudinal axis of the stadium between the first and second tiers of spectator stands at a height of 10.3 meters above the football field, which ensured the sagging of the cloth fixed on the mark of at least 7 meters above the surface of the football field. We used 26 fastener units in total held by holding cables and a sunscreen cloth with the width of 4 m and the length of 76 m. The distance between opposite units ranged from 134 to 140 m depending on the place of location on the stands. Fastener units were mounted in such a way that during operation there was a clearance of 0.7 m between cloths due to the installation technology and the need to ensure a certain free swinging of the cloth in case of wind gusts to avoid its damage, tangling and creation of noise. The minimum time for the unfolding of one cloth by the system was 15 minutes. The full unfolding of all cloths, which took 7 hours, resulted in the formation of a 76x80 m sunscreen shade.
Studies have shown that the use of sunscreen cloth material with a coefficient of reflection of 50-60% results in a temperature drop of 5-9 °C under its surface comparing to the open areas. This result helps to protect the grass turf from sun damage and makes people' s stay on the football field more comfortable.
Technical result
Comparing with the prior art, the claimed system provides such advantages:
- fast unfolding of the system (approximately 15 minutes for one sunscreen cloth with a length equivalent to the width of a football field);
- fast folding of the system cloths (approximately 10 minutes for the entire field), switching to standby mode;
- high shading effectiveness for sites with large areas;
- the sunscreen cloth can be unfolded in fully automated mode;
- simple mounting and high mobility when it is necessary to transport the system;
- the opportunity to unfold relatively long sunscreen cloths without the involvement of human muscle strength or with its minimal use;
- the minimum number of employees to unfold the system is one or three employees depending on the embodiment;
- no need for periodic mounting / dismantling of fasteners and holding cables or pullout cables over the shaded area;
- no permanently tightened cables / ropes over the shaded area of the grass turf during the non-operating period;
- no need to use vehicles to transport the dismounted elements of the system for storage and no need for storage places themselves;
- no risk of damaging the grass turf or stadium equipment due to the mounting/dismantling of the sunscreen system;
- no need to use additional devices to pull up cables that hold the cloth over the grass turf / stands;
- the opportunity of reliable and secure storage of the system on-site and consequently, a much longer service life.
It is obvious for a specialist that the claimed invention is not limited to the embodiment disclosed and can be used in other specific forms without losing its general features and key attributes. Therefore the embodiment described must be considered only an illustration rather than limiting the scope of the invention. All modifications which may be proposed as equivalent within the scope of the invention claims must be considered to be included in it.
