Definitions
- the present invention relates to a modular piece for the construction of artificial reefs that, without the need for anchoring and by its own weight, resists the force of sea currents and the thrust generated by the waves, to remain in the place of accommodation.
- Artificial reefs are structures created by humans with various materials, equipped to provide a suitable habitat for various species of marine flora and fauna. These structures can be concrete, metal, they can be cylindrical, square and even large ships that have already lost their useful navigation capacity.
- sessile organisms such as algae, sponges, gorgonians and corals, among other creatures.
- both these organisms and the artificial structure itself provide shelter and food to the most diverse species such as fish, crustaceans, and so on.
- the present invention relates to an artificial reef construction module comprising a main body having a lower section and an upper section, wherein said lower section comprises a prism of at least one of regular geometry and irregular geometry, which presents the less a first stabilizer that projects radially from said lower section, wherein said the at least one first stabilizer has one of a quadrangular longitudinal section and a triangular longitudinal section;
- the upper section presents a prism of one of regular geometry and irregular geometry.
- FIG. 4 A modular section for the construction of artificial reefs of the present invention is shown in Fig. 4.
- Figure 6 shows a plurality of modules assembled to form an artificial reef.
- said module (1) has a lower section (10) and an upper section (20) f the lower section (10) comprises a first prism (11) which has one of at least one of a regular geometry and an irregular geometry, said prism has at least one vertical wall (13), from said at least one vertical wall at least one first stabilizer is projected radially (14 ), said at least one first stabilizer (14) comprises a protuberance having one of a triangular longitudinal section (see figure la)) or a quadrangular longitudinal section (see figure Ib)).
- FIG. 2 A second embodiment is illustrated in Figure 2, wherein said lower section (10) has a second vertical wall (13 ') from which a second stabilizer (15) is projected radially, the longitudinal section of said second stabilizer (15) is different from the longitudinal section of said at least one first stabilizer (14); which means that if said at least one first stabilizer (14) has a quadrangular longitudinal section, the second stabilizer (15) has a triangular longitudinal section and vice versa.
- Said at least a first stabilizer (14) and the second stabilizer (15) have an angle of inclination with respect to the vertical wall (13, 13 ') from which they project between 1 and 179 * with respect to the vertical, preferably at 90 °, this inclination may be different for each stabilizer. Additionally, said at least one first stabilizer (14) and the second stabilizer (15) are radially spaced by 90 °, so that they are perpendicular to each other.
- said at least one first stabilizer (14) has at least one first cavity (18) therein, which crosses the lower section (10);
- the second stabilizer (15) has at least a second cavity (19) therein, which crosses the lower section (10).
- An additional embodiment is illustrated in Figure 3, wherein the lower section has third and fourth vertical walls, from which a third and fourth stabilizers (16, 17) are projected radially, respectively.
- the third stabilizer (16) is diametrically opposed to the first stabilizer (14) and has the same longitudinal section as said at least one first stabilizer (14); the fourth stabilizer (17) is diametrically opposed to the second stabilizer (15) and has the same longitudinal section as said second stabilizer (15).
- Said stabilizers prevent the movement of the module (1) once it has been placed at the site of use and to facilitate the assembly of different modules (1) with each other.
- FIG. 4 An additional embodiment is illustrated in Figure 4, wherein the lower section (10) has a lower surface (101) from which at least one anchoring element is projected, such as a cylinder which increases the friction between said module (1 ) and the seabed once it is installed (102), and serves to anchor said module (1) to the surface of the seabed once it is installed.
- a anchoring element such as a cylinder which increases the friction between said module (1 ) and the seabed once it is installed (102), and serves to anchor said module (1) to the surface of the seabed once it is installed.
- Figure 5 illustrates that the upper section (20) has a second prism (21), which has at least one of regular geometry and irregular geometry, with at least one cavity (22) running through said upper section (20 ).
- the second prism (21) comprises a pyramidal body, preferably, with two perpendicular faces (23) to each other and two faces (24) that join and end at the tip (25).
- Figure 6 illustrates a plurality of said modules (1) arranged and assembled on the seabed to form an artificial reef capable of building emerged dikes, serving as a substrate for artificial reefs or supporting other structures.
- the structures can dissipate or control the energy of the waves and allow the circulation of water and animals. They can also redirect marine flows. In morphological terms they can be used to trap sand or serve as support for beach profiles.
- said modules (1) are manufactured in monolithic pieces or in sections that will be coupled by tongue and groove, preferably they are manufactured in concrete, so that the porosity of each piece and its structural characteristics promote the deposition and reproduction of living organisms, so they have a high environmental compatibility performance.
