본 발명의 실시예들은 배터리 팩을 제공하고자 한다.
본 발명의 일 측면은, 이차전지와, 상기 이차전지의 전극 탭이 연결되는 회로모듈과, 상기 회로모듈에 배치되어 상기 이차전지의 전극 탭이 부착되는 리드 탭을 포함하고, 상기 회로모듈에는 상기 리드 탭이 배치되는 부분에 홈이 구비되고, 상기 홈의 개구부는 상기 이차전지와 반대 방향에 배치된 배터리 팩을 제공할 수 있다.
본 발명의 실시예들은 배터리 팩의 안정성을 확보할 수 있다. 또한, 본 발명의 실시에들은 배터리 팩의 조립 시 조립의 용이성 및 신속성을 확보할 수 있다.

본 발명의 일 측면은, 이차전지와, 상기 이차전지의 전극 탭이 연결되는 회로모듈과, 상기 회로모듈에 배치되어 상기 이차전지의 전극 탭이 부착되는 리드 탭을 포함하고, 상기 회로모듈에는 상기 리드 탭이 배치되는 부분에 홈이 구비되고, 상기 홈의 개구부는 상기 이차전지와 반대 방향에 배치된 배터리 팩을 제공할 수 있다.
또한, 상기 리드 탭은 접철 가능하도록 형성되며, 상기 전극 탭은 상기 리드 탭 사이에 배치될 수 있다.
또한, 상기 홈의 깊이는 상기 리드 탭의 폭보다 클 수 있다.
또한, 상기 회로 기판이 내부에 배치되는 케이스를 더 포함할 수 있다.
또한, 상기 케이스는 상기 개구부를 차폐할 수 있다.
또한, 상기 케이스의 내면으로부터 상기 회로모듈의 끝단까지의 거리는 상기 케이스의 내면으로부터 상기 리드 탭의 끝단까지의 거리보다 작을 수 있다.
또한, 상기 케이스의 내면으로부터 상기 리드 탭의 끝단까지의 거리는 상기 케이스의 내면으로부터 상기 전극탭의 끝단까지의 거리보다 작을 수 있다.
또한, 상기 이차전지는 파우치형 이차전지일 수 있다.
또한, 상기 회로모듈의 회로패턴은 상기 리드 탭과 중첩되지 않을 수 있다.
또한, 상기 회로모듈과 연결되는 커넥터를 더 포함할 수 있다.
또한, 상기 전극탭이 배치된 상기 회로모듈의 일부를 감싸도록 배치되는 절연부를 더 포함할 수 있다.
본 발명은 첨부되는 도면과 함께 상세하게 후술되어 있는 실시예들을 참조하면 명확해질 것이다. 그러나 본 발명은 이하에서 개시되는 실시예들에 한정되는 것이 아니라 서로 다른 다양한 형태로 구현될 것이며, 단지 본 실시예들은 본 발명의 개시가 완전하도록 하며, 본 발명이 속하는 기술분야에서 통상의 지식을 가진 자에게 발명의 범주를 완전하게 알려주기 위해 제공되는 것이며, 본 발명은 청구항의 범주에 의해 정의될 뿐이다. 한편, 본 명세서에서 사용된 용어는 실시예들을 설명하기 위한 것이며 본 발명을 제한하고자 하는 것은 아니다. 본 명세서에서, 단수형은 문구에서 특별히 언급하지 않는 한 복수형도 포함한다. 명세서에서 사용되는 "포함한다(comprises)" 및/또는 "포함하는(comprising)"은 언급된 구성요소, 단계, 동작 및/또는 소자는 하나 이상의 다른 구성요소, 단계, 동작 및/또는 소자의 존재 또는 추가를 배제하지 않는다. 제1, 제2 등의 용어는 다양한 구성요소들을 설명하는데 사용될 수 있지만, 구성요소들은 용어들에 의해 한정되어서는 안 된다. 용어들은 하나의 구성요소를 다른 구성요소로부터 구별하는 목적으로만 사용된다.
도 1은 본 발명의 일 실시예에 따른 배터리 팩을 보여주는 분해사시도이다. 도 2는 도 1에 도시된 회로모듈을 보여주는 사시도이다. 도 3은 도 1에 도시된 배터리 팩의 일부를 보여주는 평면도이다. 도 4는 도 3에 도시된 회로모듈의 회로패턴 일부를 보여주는 개념도이다.
도 1 내지 도 4를 참고하면, 배터리 팩(100)은 케이스(110), 이차전지(120), 회로모듈(130), 커넥터(140), 절연부(150) 및 외피부(160)를 포함할 수 있다.
케이스(110)는 내부에 이차전지(120)가 수납되도록 형성될 수 있다. 또한, 케이스(110)는 회로모듈(130)이 안착하도록 공간이 형성될 수 있다. 상기와 같은 케이스(110)는 절연물질을 포함할 수 있다. 예를 들면, 케이스(110)는 플라스틱 등과 같은 합성수지를 포함할 수 있다.
이차전지(120)는 파우치형 이차전지일 수 있다. 이때, 이차전지(120)는 파우치(121), 전극조립체(미도시), 전해질(미도시), 전극탭(122)을 포함할 수 있다.
파우치(121)는 순차적으로 적층된 제1 절연층(미도시), 금속층(미도시) 및 제2 절연층(미도시)을 구비할 수 있다. 특히 상기 제1 절연층 및 상기 제2 절연층은 폴리프로필렌(PP), 폴리에틸렌테레프탈레이트(PET), 나일론 등으로 형성될 수 있으며, 상기 금속층은 알루미늄, 스틸, 스텐레스 스틸 등으로 형성될 수 있다. 상기와 같은 파우치(121)는 다양하게 형성될 수 있다. 예를 들면, 파우치(121)는 폴리프로필렌(PP)으로 형성된 상기 제1 절연층, 알루미늄으로 형성된 상기 금속층 및 폴리에틸렌테레프탈레이트(PET)로 형성된 상기 제2 절연층의 3층 구조로 이루어질 수 있다.
상기 전극 조립체는 양극 활물질이 첨가된 양극용 슬러리가 도포된 양극판(미도시)과, 음극 활물질이 첨가된 음극용 슬러리가 도포된 음극판(미도시)과, 상기 양극판과 상기 음극판 사이에 개재된 세퍼레이터(미도시)를 포함한다.
상기 양극판은 알루미늄 등의 소재로 이루어지는 양극 집전체에 양극용 슬러리가 도포되는 양극 활물질층과 양극용 슬러리가 도포되지 않는 양극 무지부를 포함할 수 있다. 양극용 슬러리에는 양극 활물질이 포함되어 있다. 양극 활물질로는 예컨대, LiCoO2, LiNiO2, LiMnO2, LiMnO4와 같은 리튬 함유 전이금속 산화물 또는 리튬 칼코게나이드 화합물을 사용할 수 있다. 일 실시예로, 양극 무지부에는 양극 탭(122a)이 접합되며, 양극 탭(122a)의 일부는 파우치(121)로부터 외부를 향해 연장된다.
상기 음극판은 니켈 등의 재질로 이루어지는 음극 집전체에 음극용 슬러리가 도포되는 음극 활물질층과 음극용 슬러리가 도포되지 않는 음극 무지부를 포함할 수 있다. 음극용 슬러리에는 음극 활물질이 포함되어 있다. 음극 활물질로는 예컨대, 결정질 탄소, 비정질 탄소, 탄소 복합체, 탄소 섬유와 같은 탄소 재료, 리튬 금속 또는 리튬 합금 등을 사용할 수 있다. 일 실시예로, 음극 무지부에는 음극 탭(122b)이 접합되며, 음극 탭(122b)의 일부는 파우치(121)로부터 외부를 향해 연장된다.
상기 세퍼레이터는 리튬 이온이 상기 양극판과 상기 음극판 사이를 양호하게 이동할 수 있도록 다공성 폴리프로필렌(PP) 또는 다공성 폴리에틸렌(PE) 재질을 포함할 수 있다.
전극탭(122)은 상기 전극 조립체에 연결되는 양극 탭(122a) 및 음극 탭(122b)을 포함할 수 있다. 양극 탭(122a)과 음극 탭(122b)은 파우치(121)와의 밀봉성을 향상시키고 파우치(121)와 전기적 절연을 위해, 각각 접착성 탭 테이프(123)로 둘러싸일 수 있다.
회로모듈(130)은 이차전지(120) 및 커넥터(140)와 연결될 수 있다. 이때, 회로모듈(130)은 커넥터(140)를 통하여 외부와 연결될 수 있으며, 이차전지(120)의 충방전을 제어할 수 있다.
회로모듈(130)은 회로기판(131), 회로기판(131) 상에 실장된 회로소자(132), 리드 탭(133) 및 안전소자(134)를 포함할 수 있다. 회로소자(132), 리드 탭(133) 및 안전소자(134)는 모두 회로기판(131)의 일면에 배치될 수 있다.
회로기판(131)의 일면에는 이차전지(120)와의 전기적 연결을 위한 리드 탭(133)이 배치된다. 이때, 리드 탭(133)은 양극 리드 탭(133a)과 음극 리드 탭(133b)을 포함할 수 있다. 양극 리드 탭(133a)은 이차전지(120)의 양극 탭(122a)과 용접에 의해 전기적으로 접속되며, 음극 리드 탭(133b)은 이차전지(120)의 음극 탭(122b)과 용접에 의해 전기적으로 접속된다. 이때, 양극 리드 탭(133a)과 음극 리드 탭(133b)은 각각 접철되도록 형성될 수 있다. 이러한 경우 접철되는 양극 리드 탭(133a) 사이에는 양극 탭(122a)이 삽입되고, 접철되는 음극 리드 탭(133b) 사이에는 음극 탭(122b)이 삽입될 수 있다. 특히 양극 리드 탭(133a)과 음극 리드 탭(133b)는 차후 양극 탭(122a) 및 음극 탭(122b)을 양극 리드 탭(133a) 및 음극 리드 탭(133b)에 각각 용접할 경우 용접이 용이하도록 돌기를 구비할 수 있다.
회로기판(131)에는 홈(135)이 구비될 수 있다. 이때, 홈(135)은 양극 리드 탭(133a) 및 음극 리드 탭(133b)이 배치되는 부분의 회로기판(131)에 형성될 수 있다. 상기와 같은 홈(135)은 파우치(121)와 대향하는 회로기판(131)의 면과 대향하는 면에 배치될 수 있다. 즉, 홈(135)의 개구부는 파우치(121) 부분이 아닌 케이스(110)와 대향하도록 배치될 수 있다. 또한, 홈(135)는 리드 탭(133)이 배치되지 않는 회로기판(131)의 면(또는 회로소자(132)가 배치된 회로기판(131)의 면)에 형성될 수 있다. 이러한 홈(135)은 양극 탭(122a) 및 음극 탭(122b)와 각가 대응되는 회로기판(131) 부분에 배치될 수 있다. 이러한 경우 양극 탭(122a) 및 음극 탭(122b)을 양극 리드 탭(133a) 및 음극 리드 탭(133b)에 각각 용접하는 경우 양극 탭(122a), 음극 탭(122b), 양극 리드 탭(133a) 및 음극 리드 탭(133b) 중 적어도 하나가 후술할 회로패턴에 연결되는 것을 방지할 수 있다.
상기와 같은 홈(135)의 깊이(D)는 양극 리드 탭(133a) 및 음극 리드 탭(133b) 중 적어도 하나의 폭(W)보다 크게 형성될 수 있다. 이때, 홈(135)의 깊이(D)는 홈(135)의 개구부로부터 파우치(121) 방향으로 측정한 값일 수 있으며, 양극 리드 탭(133a)의 폭 및 음극 리드 탭(133b) 폭(W)은 홈(135)의 개구부로부터 파우치(121) 방향으로 측정한 값일 수 있다.
회로기판(131)에는 이차전지(120)의 충방전을 제어함으로써 충전 상태를 균일하게 하는 충방전 회로 패턴(미도시), 또는 과방전 및 과충전을 방지하는 보호 회로 패턴(미도시)을 포함한다. 회로기판(131)에 충방전 회로 패턴 및 보호 회로 패턴의 구현을 위해 설치된 회로소자(132)가 배치될 수 있다. 이때, 충방전 회로 패턴 및 보호 회로 패턴은 양극 리드 탭(133a) 및 음극 리드 탭(133b)에 각각 연결될 수 있으며, 커넥터(140)와 연결될 수 있다. 특히 이러한 충방전 회로 패턴 및 보호 회로 패턴 중 적어도 하나는 회로기판(131)에 배치될 수 있다. 일 실시예로써, 충방전 회로 패턴 및 보호 회로 패턴 중 적어도 하나는 양극 리드 탭(133a) 및 음극 리드 탭(133b)이 배치되는 회로기판(131)의 일면에 배치될 수 있다. 이러한 경우 회로기판(131)의 일면에는 별도의 절연물질이 도포된 상태일 수 있다. 다른 실시예로써 충방전 회로 패턴 및 보호 회로 패턴 중 적어도 하나는 회로기판(131)의 타면에 배치될 수 있다. 이때, 회로기판(131)의 타면은 양극 리드 탭(133a) 및 음극 리드 탭(133b)이 배치되는 회로기판(131)의 일면과 대향하는 면을 지칭할 수 있다. 이때, 회로기판(131)의 일면에는 상기에서 설명한 바와 같이 절연물질이 도포되는 것도 가능하다. 다만, 이하에서는 설명의 편의를 위하여 충방전 회로 패턴 및 보호 회로 패턴 중 적어도 하나는 회로기판(131)의 타면에 배치되는 경우를 중심으로 상세히 설명하기로 한다.
상기와 같은 경우 충방전 회로 패턴 및 보호 회로 패턴 중 적어도 하나는 양극 탭(122a) 및 음극 탭(122b)과 서로 겹치지 않도록 회로기판(131)의 타면에 배치될 수 있다. 이때, 충방전 회로 패턴 및 보호 호로 패턴 중 적어도 하나는 홈(135)을 회피하도록 회로기판(131)의 타면에 배치될 수 있다. 이러한 경우 충방전 회로 패턴 및 보호 호로 패턴 중 적어도 하나의 일부는 홈(135)의 테두리를 따라 절곡될 수 있다. 따라서 상기와 같이 충방전 회로 패턴 및 보호 호로 패턴 중 적어도 하나는 양극 탭(122a) 및 음극 탭(122b)과 서로 중첩되지 않음으로써 양극 탭(122a) 및 음극 탭(122b)과 접촉하지 않을 수 있다.
안전소자(134)는 이차전지(120)의 온도가 허용 온도 이상이 되면 전류를 차단함으로써, 이차전지(120)의 발열로 인한 이상 현상을 방지한다. 안전소자(134)로는 PTC(Positive Thermal Coefficient) 또는 TCO(Thermal cut-off device)가 사용될 수 있다.
커넥터(140)는 회로모듈(130)과 연결될 수 있으며, 케이스(110) 외부로 노출될 수 있다. 이때, 커넥터(140)는 회로모듈(130)과 연결되는 케이블(141) 및 케이블(141)에 설치되는 연결단자(142)를 포함할 수 있다.
절연부(150)는 회로모듈(130)의 일부를 차폐할 수 있다. 특히 절연부(150)는 이차전지(120)의 테라스부(124)에 배치되는 회로모듈(130) 부분을 차폐할 수 있다. 이러한 절연부(150)는 절연 테이프 형태로 형성되어 회로모듈(130)에 부착될 수 있다.
외피부(160)는 케이스(110)의 일면을 차폐하거나 케이스(110)에 부착됨으로써 이차전지(120)를 케이스(110)에 고정시킬 수 있다. 이때, 외피부(160)는 복수개 구비될 수 있으며, 복수개의 외피부(160)는 이차전지(120) 및 케이스(110)의 일부에 부착됨으로써 외부 환경으로부터 이차전지(120)를 차폐시킬 수 있다.
한편, 상기와 같은 배터리 팩(100)의 제조 시 회로모듈(130)과 이차전지(120)를 용접을 통하여 연결할 수 있다. 구체적으로 양극 리드 탭(133a)에 양극 탭(122a)을 용접하여 연결할 수 있다. 또한, 음극 리드 탭(133b)에 음극 탭(122b)을 용접하여 연결할 수 있다. 이때, 양극 리드 탭(133a)에 양극 탭(122a)을 용접하는 경우와 음극 리드 탭(133b)에 음극 탭(122b)을 용접하는 경우는 동일 또는 유사하므로 이하에서는 설명의 편의를 위하여 양극 리드 탭(133a)에 양극 탭(122a)을 용접하여 연결하는 경우를 중심으로 상세히 설명하기로 한다.
양극 리드 탭(133a)에 양극 탭(122a)을 용접하는 경우 양극 리드 탭(133a)의 접철된 부분을 펼치거나 양극 리드 탭(133a)이 펼쳐진 상태에서 양극 탭(122a)을 양극 리드 탭(133a) 상에 배치할 수 있다. 이후 양극 리드 탭(133a)의 일부를 접철하여 양극 리드 탭(133a)의 일부와 양극 리드 탭(133a)의 다른 일부가 서로 대향하도록 배치시킬 수 있다. 이러한 경우 양극 탭(122a)은 양극 리드 탭(133a) 사이에 배치될 수 있다. 이때, 양극 탭(122a)의 끝단은 양극 리드 탭(133a) 사이에 차폐되거나 양극 리드 탭(133a)으로부터 돌출된 상태일 수 있다. 특히 양극 탭(122a)이 양극 리드 탭(133a)의 끝단으로부터 돌출된 경우 용접을 완료하고, 돌출된 부분을 접어서 홈(135) 내부에 양극 탭(122a)을 배치시킬 수 있다.
상기와 같이 양극 탭(122a)의 배치가 완료되면, 양극 리드 탭(133a)의 일면에서 에너지를 가하여 용접을 수행할 수 있다. 이때, 양극 리드 탭(133a)에 용접 장치를 접촉하여 가압할 수 있다.
상기와 같이 용접을 수행하는 경우 종래에는 회로기판(131)이 양극 리드 탭(133a)의 타면에 배치될 수 있다. 이러한 경우 용접 시 발생하는 버(Burr)에 의해 양극 리드 탭(133a) 및 양극 탭(122a) 중 적어도 하나가 음극 리드 탭(133b) 및 음극 탭(122b) 중 적어도 하나와 커넥터(140)를 연결하는 충방전 회로 패턴 및 보호 회로 패턴 중 적어도 하나와 연결되는 문제가 발생할 수 있다. 이러한 경우 배터리 팩(100)은 정상적으로 작동하지 못하거나 쇼트가 발생함으로써 배터리 팩(100)의 안전성이 훼손될 수 있다.
그러나 본 발명의 실시예들에서는 홈(135)을 양극 리드 탭(133)이 배치되는 부분에 배치함으로써 상기와 같은 문제를 해결할 수 있다. 즉, 양극 리드 탭(133a)과 양극 탭(122a)이 용접되는 부위에는 홈(135)이 배치됨으로써 회로기판(131), 충방전 회로 패턴 및 보호 회로 패턴 중 적어도 하나가 존재하지 않음으로써 용접 시 양극 리드 탭(133a) 및 양극 탭(122a) 중 적어도 하나가 음극 리드 탭(133b) 및 음극 탭(122b) 중 적어도 하나와 커넥터(140)를 연결하는 충방전 회로 패턴 및 보호 회로 패턴 중 적어도 하나와 접촉하는 것을 방지할 수 있다.
상기와 같이 용접이 완료되면, 홈(135)의 개구부보다 양극 리드 탭(133a)의 끝단이 파우치(121)에 더 가깝게 배치될 수 있다. 또한, 케이스(110)의 내면으로부터 회로모듈(130)의 끝단까지의 제1 거리(H1)가 케이스(110)의 내면으로부터 양극 리드 탭(133a)의 끝단까지의 제2 거리(H2)보다 작을 수 있다. 뿐만 아니라 케이스(110)의 내면으로부터 회로모듈(130)의 끝단까지의 제1 거리(H1)가 케이스(110)의 내면으로부터 양극 탭(122a)의 끝단까지의 제3 거리(H3)보다 작을 수 있다. 따라서 양극 리드 탭(133a) 및 양극 탭(122a)은 케이스(110)에 접촉하지 않음으로써 케이스(110)를 통하여 통전되는 것을 방지할 수 있다.
또한, 상기와 같이 양극 리드 탭(133a)과 양극 탭(122a)을 서로 연결한 경우 회로기판(131)에는 절연부(150)가 설치될 수 있다. 특히 절연부(150)는 이차전지(120)의 테라스부(124)에 배치되는 회로기판(131)을 감싸도록 배치될 수 있다.
상기와 같이 양극 리드 탭(133a)과 양극 탭(122a) 및 음극 리드 탭(133b)과 음극 탭(122b)을 각각 연결한 후 케이스(110)에 회로모듈(130)과 이차전지(120)를 배치할 수 있다. 이때, 회로모듈(130)에는 커넥터(140)가 연결된 상태일 수 있다.
상기의 과정이 완료되면, 외피부(160)를 부착하여 배터리 팩(100)의 제조를 완료할 수 있다.
따라서 배터리 팩(100)은 리드 탭(133)과 전극탭(122)의 용접 시 리드 탭(133)과 전극탭(122) 중 적어도 하나가 회로모듈(130)의 회로패턴과 접촉하는 것을 방지함으로써 배터리 팩(100)의 안정성을 증대시킬 수 있다.
또한, 배터리 팩(100)은 전극탭(122)이 회로모듈(130)보다 돌출됨으로써 케이스(110)와 조립 시 발생할 수 있는 간섭을 최소화할 수 있다.
비록 본 발명이 상기 언급된 바람직한 실시예와 관련하여 설명되었지만, 발명의 요지와 범위로부터 벗어남이 없이 다양한 수정이나 변형을 하는 것이 가능하다. 따라서 첨부된 특허청구의 범위에는 본 발명의 요지에 속하는 한 이러한 수정이나 변형을 포함할 것이다.
본 발명의 일 실시예에 의하면, 조립이 간편한 배터리 팩을 제공하며, 전기자동차, 하이브리드 자동차, 선박, 휴대용 전자기기 등에 본 발명의 실시예들을 적용할 수 있다.

Claims (11)

  1. 이차전지;
    상기 이차전지의 전극 탭이 연결되는 회로모듈;
    상기 회로모듈에 배치되어 상기 이차전지의 전극 탭이 부착되는 리드 탭;을 포함하고,
    상기 회로모듈에는 상기 리드 탭이 배치되는 부분에 홈이 구비되고, 상기 홈의 개구부는 상기 이차전지와 반대 방향에 배치된 배터리 팩.
  2. 제 1 항에 있어서,
    상기 리드 탭은 접철 가능하도록 형성되며, 상기 전극 탭은 상기 리드 탭 사이에 배치되는 배터리 팩.
  3. 제 1 항에 있어서,
    상기 홈의 깊이는 상기 리드 탭의 폭보다 큰 배터리 팩.
  4. 제 1 항에 있어서,
    상기 회로 기판이 내부에 배치되는 케이스;를 더 포함하는 배터리 팩.
  5. 제 4 항에 있어서,
    상기 케이스는 상기 개구부를 차폐하는 배터리 팩.
