Definitions
- the present invention relates to a method of packaging a panel-shaped object.
- the invention also concerns a packaging product thus obtained.
- EP0950610 describes a packaging and stacking device made from a sheet of plastic material whose end flaps are rolled in a spiral, thereby forming a wall and reinforcing members joint to said wall.
- the object to be packaged is placed on the wall between the reinforcing members.
- This type of packaging involves creasing the sheet of plastic material in order to make it possible to fold it.
- the sheet of plastic material is expensive for both fabrication and disposal.
- US2008148692 describes a packaging for panels having a central section and side flaps folded on themselves to retain an internal reinforcing element. Also, the invention disclosed in the cited U.S. Patent Application requires the packaging material to be creased and bent.
- the objects of the present invention are to overcome the drawbacks mentioned above.
- the main object of the invention is to allow the packaging of panel-shaped objects, guaranteeing their non-deformability even after the fall of the packed object.
- the present invention achieves the foregoing objects by means of a method of packaging an object in the form of a panel from cardboard sheets having a first face and a second face opposite to each other and parallel sides, the object to be packaged with lateral surface and opposite bases having width and length dimensions of its own, and a thickness less than the first two dimensions.
- the method comprises the following steps:
- Figure 1 is an axonometric view of ready-to-use components in a first embodiment of the packaging method according to the present invention.
- Figures 2 and 3 are axonometric views of the components in Figure 1 in subsequent steps of the first embodiment of the packaging method;
- Figure 4 is an axonometric view of ready-to-use components in a second 5 embodiment of the packaging method according to the present invention.
- Figures 5 to 7 are axonometric views of the components in Figure 4 in subsequent steps of the second embodiment of the packaging method
- Figure 8 is an axonometric view of ready-to-use components in a third embodiment of the packaging method according to the present invention. i o and
- Figure 9 is an axonometric view of the result of the third embodiment of the packaging method.
- Figures 1 to 3 are an axonometric view 15 of ready-to-use components in a first embodiment of the packaging method according to the present invention, and axonometric views of their modifications during the packaging method.
- the cardboard sheet 1 is preferably a single-walled corrugated 20 cardboard sheet and has a first face 10 and a second face 11 opposite to the first one; it has first parallel sides 12 which, for descriptive convenience, are indicated as those obtained in the sense of length, and second parallel sides 13 as those obtained in the sense of width.
- the abutting element 2 is preferably in the form of corrugated cardboard 25 strips glued to each other, preferably corrugated cardboard with multiple walls.
- the abutting element 2 is prismatic, and has front and rear sides 20, upper side 21a and lower side 21b, and right and left sides 22.
- An object 3 to be packaged is shown in a dotted line in Figure 2, inside a cardboard sheet 1 being packaged.
- the object 3 to be packaged has the shape of a panel with lateral surface 30 and opposite bases 31. Because of the shape of a panel, the object 3 has a width and a length greater than its third dimension, the thickness.
- the packaging method of the invention comprises the cutting of the cardboard sheet 1 from continuous cardboard (not shown); alternatively, if the products to be packaged have all the same size, the method could use already cut-to-size sheets, such as a single- walled corrugated cardboard.
- the cardboard sheet 1 is preferably of height, that is, of width, greater than the length of the object 3 to be packaged.
- the length of the cardboard sheet 1 is greater than twice the width of the object 3 to be packaged.
- two abutment elements 2 are formed. This can be done, for example, by cutting a corrugated cardboard strip with multiple walls having a thickness at least equal to the thickness of the object 3 to be packaged; alternatively, one can start from a single-walled corrugated board by gluing several layers until the desired thickness.
- a band 14 of adhesive is applied on an edge zone of a first face 10 of the cardboard sheet 1 near two of its first parallel sides 12 as shown in Figure 2.
- the adhesive bands 14 continue in central zones 15 in the edge of the cardboard sheet 1.
- the central zones 15 have a length equal to the width of the object 3 to be packaged.
- the kind of the adhesive can be chosen as desired.
- the abutment element 2 rests on the central zones 15 with its lower side 21b in contact with the band of adhesive substance.
- the adhesive instead of applying the adhesive to the entire length of the lateral edges in proximity to the parallel sides 12, the adhesive can only be applied to the upper side 21a and to the lower side 21b of the abutment elements 2 and not to the cardboard sheet 1.
- the object 3 to be packaged is positioned on the first face 10 of the cardboard sheet 1 between the two abutment elements 2.
- the object 3 to be packaged can be positioned between the two abutment elements 2 before bonding the latter onto the cardboard sheet 1.
- side flaps 16 can be folded onto the object 3 to be packaged until it is completely covered because the ends 17 of the side flaps 16 are drawn near.
- the side flaps 16 are attached to the upper side 21a of the abutment elements 2 by means of the band of adhesive substance applied to the edges of the side flaps 16, or on the upper side 21a of the abutment elements 2.
- Figure 3 shows the complete packaging of the object 3 which guarantees perfect seal and protection even in case of falling of the object so made.
- the abutment elements 2 absorb the impact with the ground avoiding any deformation of the edges of the object 3.
- the side edges 16, being curved on the left and right sides 22 of the abutment element 2, are shown slightly spaced from them only for illustrative purpose; in fact, they are generally in contact with the sides 22 of the abutment element and with the sides of the object 3 to be packaged so as to keep still the object to be packed within the package.
- the ends 17 of the side flaps 16 can be sealed with adhesive tape, which, if it is made of paper, is recyclable with the rest of the package.
- Figures 4 to 7 are an axonometric view of ready-to-use components in a second embodiment of the packaging method according to the present invention, and axonometric views of their modifications during the packaging method.
- the same reference numerals are used to indicate equal or similar parts to those in Figure 1.
- indicated as 1 is a first cardboard sheet of less than twice the width of the object 3 to be packaged
- indicated as 2 are abutment elements of the same size as the abutment element of the first embodiment, in particular of length equal to the width of the object 3 to be packaged.
- Indicated as 4 is a covering second sheet of cardboard of surface less than half the side surface 30 of the object 3 to be packaged.
- the second cover sheet 4 is cut with a width smaller than that of the object to be packaged and of a length equal to that of the cardboard sheet 1.
- the adhesive substance is applied, and the cardboard sheet 4 is affixed with adhesion to the side flaps 16 of the first cardboard sheet and the abutment elements 2. The packaging is completed.
- Figures 8 and 9 are an axonometric view of ready-to-use components in a third embodiment of the packaging method according to the present invention, and an axonometric view of the final packaging.
- the same reference numerals are used to indicate equal or similar parts to those in Figure 1.
- la are two identical cardboard sheets, each of them having a face of length and width greater than the length and width of the object to be packaged;
- indicated as 2 is a pair of abutment elements similar to those of the preceding embodiments, and indicated as 23 is a plurality of other abutment elements of length equal to or less than the width of the object 3 to be packaged.
- the third embodiment of the method according to the present invention comprises the application of a band of adhesive substance on an edge zone of a face 10 of the first cardboard sheet 1 on the four parallel sides 12, 12, 13, 13, the adhesion of a plurality of abutment elements in number of four or more (in number of six in the embodiment shown in Figure 8) on the edge portions where the adhesive was applied, the application of the adhesive substance on the upper side of each abutment element 2 and of each further abutment element 23, and the attachment with the adhesion of the second cardboard sheet la to the abutment elements 2 and to the further abutment elements 23 after the insertion of the object 3 to be packaged on the first cardboard sheet 1.
