Abstract

A device for finding one's bearings, such as a compass, in a survival situation. The device consists of a pin or a portion of same, such as a ferromagnetic metal rod, magnetised at one of the ends thereof, introduced by moulding or by piercing into a floating material of relative density less than one, such as plastic, thus constituting a floating sheath or a floating sleeve for the pin. The plastic coating the pin can be luminescent for use at night. The pin is novel and unique because it is unsinkable. The pin is practical due to its smallness and very low weight, being storable anywhere, and therefore easily transportable. The unsinkable survival compass pin rotates on itself in a liquid such as water, in order to indicate the terrestrial magnetic North-South axis at any point on the Earth. The pin can always be used to find ones bearings, especially when technology is in a dead spot (gps, mobile phone, etc.).
