Description

Doorstep seal as well as door provided with the doorstep seal
DESCRIPTION: Field of the invention The invention relates to a door sill seal for sealing a gap present between the bottom of a door and a door sill, comprising an elongated profile for attachment to the bottom of the door as well as a seal fitted to the profile over the entire length of the profile and when applied to a door seals a gap between the bottom of the door and the door sill. State of the art
Door sill seals are known whose profile is to be fitted to the bottom of the door or at the bottom to the inside of the door. Also known are door sill seals which are to be fitted in a groove provided in the bottom of the door and are to be attached to the door. The seal may be for example, a rubber flap or bristles which extends or extend respectively in a direction toward the door sill. A disadvantage of these known door sill seals is that they are to be attached to the door. When replacing the door sill seal, for example, when it is threadbare, the door is to be lifted from the frame, the door sill seal is to be detached from the door and removed and a new door sill seal is to be attached to the door. This is considerably circumstantial and time consuming.
Summary of the invention
It is an object of the invention to provide a door sill seal of the type defined in the opening paragraph where the door sill seal can be replaced in a simpler manner. For this purpose the door sill seal according to the invention is characterized in that the profile is a box section having a diameter that is narrower at the seal than at a distance from the seal and which over its entire length oppositely disposed to the door sill seal has a recess, so that the edges bounding on the recess of the box section are located spaced apart from each other and the box section is made of such a material that the two box section halves can be bent toward each other on either one of the two sides of the recess in a resilient manner so that the profile, if fitted in a groove in the bottom of the door, can be accommodated in the groove in a clamping manner. For this purpose there should be provided in the bottom of the door a groove of congruent cross section. The door sill seal according to the invention may simply be slid into the groove from a narrow side of the door. A narrow side is meant to be understood as the narrow hinge side or the narrow lock side of the door. This is possible when the door is in open position. To this end the door need not first be removed from the doorframe. Preferably the profile has a cross section in the form of a dovetail.
An advantageous embodiment of the door sill seal according to the invention is characterized in that the bottom of the profile is provided with a recess that extends over the entire length and is open at the bottom where the width of the recess at the bottom of the profile is narrower than at a distance from the profile and the top of the recess is situated at a distance from the top of the profile and in that the seal comprises an elongated connecting element that is slid, clicked or fitted into the recess. As a result of this, in case of wear it will be sufficient to solely replace the seal and the profile may then be maintained. The seal may be slid into the recess in the profile in the same way as the complete door sill seal from a narrow side of the door. This recess and the connecting element may also have a dovetail or a C-shaped cross section. The door sill seal preferably comprises bristles which are fitted to the connecting element.
The invention also relates to a door provided with a door sill seal, the bottom of which door is provided with a groove that accommodates the door sill seal. With respect to the door the invention is characterized in that the groove at the bottom of the door is narrower than at a distance from the bottom of the door and which extends from a narrow side of the door and is open on this narrow side so that the door sill seal can be slid into the groove from this narrow side, which door sill seal comprises a box section that is accommodated in the groove and is smaller at the bottom of the door than at a distance from the bottom, and over the entire length opposite to the seal has a recess, so that the box section edges bounding on the recess are situated spaced apart from each other and the box section is made of such a material that the two section halves on either one of the two sides of the recess can be bent toward each other in a resilient manner, and which door sill seal is provided with a seal that is connected to the profile and during operation seals the gap between the bottom of the door and the door sill. The profile of the door sill seal is interlocked in the groove in the bottom of a door in a direction at right angles to the seal. The door sill seal according to the invention can be slid into the groove in a simple manner from the narrow side of the door. This is possible when the door is in an open position. The door need not first be lifted from its frame to realize this.
Preferably the groove in the bottom of the door has a dovetail cross section. Furthermore, the profile also preferably has a dovetail cross section.
An embodiment of the door according to the invention is characterized in that the bottom of the profile is provided with a recess that extends over the entire length and is open at the bottom, where the width of the recess at the bottom of the profile is narrower than at a distance from the profile and the top of the recess is situated at a distance from the top of the profile and in that the seal comprises an elongated connecting element that is pushed, clicked or fitted into the recess. This recess and the connecting element may also have a dovetail or C-shaped cross section.
Preferably, the seal has bristles which are fitted to the connecting element.
Brief description of the drawing figures
The invention will be further described below in more detail with reference to an example of embodiment of the door sill seal according to the invention represented in the drawing figures, in which:
Fig. 1 shows a door provided with a door sill seal according to the invention; Fig. 2 shows a detail of the door shown in Fig. 1 at the location of the door sill seal;
Fig. 3 shows the detail shown in Fig. 2 seen from the narrow side of the door; and
Fig. 4 shows an alternative of the door sill seal where the seal is replaced with a light source.
Detailed description of the drawing figures
Fig. 1 shows a door provided with a door sill seal according to the invention and Fig. 2 shows a detail of the door shown in Fig. 1 at the location of door sill seal. The bottom 3 of the door 1 is provided with a groove 5 that has a dovetail cross section (see also Fig. 4). The groove accommodates a door sill seal 7. The groove extends from a narrow side 9 of the door and is open at this narrow side. The door sill seal comprises a profile 11 which also has a dovetail cross section, and a seal 13 which is enclosed in the profile and seals the gap between the bottom of the door and the door sill. The profile is slid into the groove from the narrow side of the door.
At the bottom the profile 11 is provided with a recess 15 that extends over the entire length and is open at the bottom and has a C-shaped cross section. This opening is narrower than the recess portion over it and the top 17 of the recess is situated at a distance from the top 19 of the profile. The seal 13 has an elongated connecting element 21 that has a circular cross section which is slid or pushed into the recess. Bristles 23 are fitted to the connecting element, which bristles form the seal.
Fig. 3 shows the detail of the door 1 shown in Fig. 2 seen from the narrow side 9 of the door. The groove 5 and the profile 11 have congruent shapes and interfit with one another in a sliding manner. The top of the box section shows a recess 24 over the entire length and is slid into the groove in a slightly clamping manner, where the two box section halves on either one of the two sides of the recess are resiliently bent toward each other.
Fig. 4 shows an alternative of the door sill seal where the seal is replaced with a light source. Preferably, this light source is formed by a plurality of led light bulbs 25 spread over the width of the door. The profile 27 furthermore accommodates one or more batteries 29 to which the led light bulbs are connected. On the narrow side of the door a light switch (not shown) may be provided in the box section, which switch is closed upon closing of the door, so that the light bulbs only light up when the door is closed.
Albeit the invention has been elucidated in the foregoing with reference to the drawing figures, it should be set out that the invention is not by any manner or means restricted to the embodiment shown in the drawing figures. The invention also extends to any embodiments deviating from the embodiment shown in the drawing figures within the scope defined by the claims.
