Abstract
본 발명은 커패시턴스-타입 센서 및 이의 제조 방법에 관한 것이다. 본 발명의 일 실시예에 따른 커패시턴스-타입 센서(10)는, 기판(100), 기판(100) 상에 형성되고, 탄소물질을 포함하는 탄소 전극막(200), 탄소 전극막(200) 상에 형성된 절연막(300), 절연막(300) 상의 적어도 일부에 형성된 적어도 하나의 전극(400) 및 전극(400)의 적어도 일부를 커버하며 절연막(300) 상에 형성된 감지막(500)을 포함하는 것을 특징으로 한다.
Description
본 발명은 커패시턴스-타입 센서 및 이의 제조 방법에 관한 것이다. 보다 상세하게는, 탄소물질을 포함하는 탄소 전극막과 기판의 결합을 이용하여 측정 대상의 전기적 특성 또는 전기적 특성의 변화를 측정할 수 있는 커패시턴스-타입 센서 및 이의 제조 방법에 관한 것이다.
절연유(Insulating Oil)는 변압기, 차단기, 축전기 등 고전압설비의 절연성능을 유지하기 위하여 사용된다. 그리고, 차량 엔진오일 등의 윤활유는 기계의 마찰면에 생기는 마찰력을 줄이고, 마찰열을 분산시키기 위해 사용된다. 절연유, 윤활유 등의 광유(mineral oil)는 사용 중에 점차 열화될 수 있으며, 열화가 진행되면 슬러지가 생성되고 절연성능을 저하시킬 수 있다. 절연유의 열화가 변압기의 사고, 파손 원인의 5% 정도를 차지하고 있으며, 변압기 절연유의 특성을 나쁘게 하는 대표적인 요인으로는, (1) 공기 중의 수분이 흡기부로 유입되는 경우, (2) 과온도로 사용하는 경우, (3) 불량 절연유를 사용하는 경우, (4) 지락(Grounding), 단락, 상시 과전압 등이 있다.
고가의 변압기가 파손되기 전에 절연유를 교체하거나 변압기를 수리할 수 있도록, 절연유의 열화 상태를 미리 센싱할 필요성이 높게 요구된다. 지금까지는 절연유의 열화 상태를 측정할 때, 전류의 흐름을 끊은 상태에서 샘플을 채취하여 실험실에서 화학적으로 분석하는 가스분석방식이나, 절연유 산가 및 내압치를 측정하는 방식을 사용해왔다. 하지만 종래의 절연유 측정 방식은 실시간으로 이루어지기 어려우며, 특히, 절연유 내부에 수분이 증가하면 변압기가 절연 파괴되거나, 폭발할 위험이 있었다.
한편, 차량 엔진오일의 열화 상태를 파악하지 못하여 엔진오일의 적정 교환시기를 제대로 파악할 수 없는 문제가 발생한다. 엔진오일 교체 비용을 절감하고, 엔진성능을 최상으로 유지하고, 수명을 연장하기 위해서는 엔진오일 등의 윤활유의 열화 상태를 미리 센싱할 필요성이 높게 요구된다.
최근에 절연유의 열화와 절연유의 전기적 특성인 유전율 또는 전기 전도도의 변화가 밀접한 관계가 있음이 밝혀지면서 절연유의 전기적 특성을 측정하여 절연유의 상태를 감지하는 연구들이 진행 중이다. 또한, 일부 연구에서는 엔진 오일의 전기적인 특성 중에서 출력 전압, 전기 저항 또는 점도를 이용하였으나, 신뢰성, 장기 내구성 및 응답 속도 측면에서 사용자의 요구를 충족시키지 못하고 있는 상태이다.
절연유, 윤활유 등의 유전 상수의 변화는 절연유, 윤활유 등의 여러 가지 물리적, 화학적 변화에 기인하는 것으로 절연유의 변화 정보를 쉽게 얻을 수 있는 장점을 가지고 있다. 하지만, 현재까지의 유전 상수를 이용한 측정 장치들은 부피가 큰 실린더 형태나 평행판 구조 형태를 포함하고 있어, 대량 생산과 소형화에서 문제점을 가지고 있다.
본 발명은 상기와 같은 종래 기술의 제반 문제점을 해결하기 위하여 안출된 것으로서, 변압기 절연유, 차량 엔진오일 등의 전기적 특성 또는 전기적 특성의 변화를 높은 감도로 측정할 수 있는 커패시턴스-타입 센서 및 이의 제조 방법을 제공하는 것을 그 목적으로 한다.
또한, 본 발명은 탄소 전극막이 절연유와 직접적으로 접촉하지 않으므로, 내구성 및 안정성이 우수한 커패시턴스-타입 센서 및 이의 제조 방법을 제공하는 것을 그 목적으로 한다.
또한, 본 발명은 응답 속도가 빠르고, 우수한 감도 및 높은 신뢰성을 가지고, 소형화 할 수 있는 커패시턴스-타입 센서 및 이의 제조 방법을 제공하는 것을 그 목적으로 한다.
상기의 목적을 달성하기 위하여, 본 발명의 일 실시예에 따른 커패시턴스-타입 센서는, 기판; 상기 기판 상에 형성되고, 탄소물질을 포함하는 탄소 전극막; 상기 탄소 전극막 상에 형성된 절연막; 상기 절연막 상의 적어도 일부에 형성된 적어도 하나의 전극; 및 상기 전극의 적어도 일부를 커버하며 상기 절연막 상에 형성된 감지막을 포함하는 것을 특징으로 한다.
상기 탄소 전극막은, 그래핀(Graphene), 카본나노튜브(Carbon Nanotube), 탄소섬유(Carbon Fiber), 인조흑연(Artificial Graphite), 카본블랙(Carbon Black), 활성탄소(Activated Carbon) 중 적어도 어느 하나를 포함할 수 있다.
상기 기판은 실리콘, 유리 또는 알루미나(Alumina)를 포함할 수 있다.
상기 기판이 실리콘을 포함하는 경우, 상기 실리콘은 N형 또는 P형으로 도핑된 실리콘 일 수 있다.
상기 기판이 유리 또는 알루미나를 포함하는 경우, 상기 기판과 상기 탄소 전극막 사이에 전도성막(Conductive Layer)이 더 형성될 수 있다.
상기 탄소 전극막이 가지는 전기 용량값은, 상기 탄소 전극막이 포함하는 복수의 탄소 입자들 각각의 사이에서 발생하는 전기 용량의 총합일 수 있다.
상기 기판 및 상기 탄소 전극막의 접촉체는 커패시터(Capacitor)로 기능할 수 있다.
상기 커패시턴스-타입 센서에 접하는 측정 물질의 상태에 따라, 상기 기판 및 상기 탄소 전극막의 전기 용량(capacitance) 또는 유전율(permittivity)이 변화할 수 있다.
상기 기판은 측정 물질이 상기 탄소 전극막에 직접적으로 접촉하는 것을 방지할 수 있다.
상기 전극은 크롬(Cr), 금(Au), 은(Ag), 알루미늄(Al), 백금(Pt), 몰리브덴(Mo), 구리(Cu), 철(Fe), 텅스텐(W), 팔라듐(Pd) 세슘(Cs), 리튬(Li), 칼슘(Ca), 마그네슘-알루미늄(Mg-Al) 중 적어도 하나를 포함할 수 있다.
상기 전극은, 대향하도록 배치되는 제1 전극 및 제2 전극을 포함하는 빗살형 전극(Interdigit Electrode)일 수 있다.
상기 탄소 전극막의 두께는 10nm 내지 5㎛일 수 있다.
상기 절연막의 두께는 100nm 내지 500nm일 수 있다.
상기 커패시턴스-타입 센서의 초기 용량값은 적어도 400pF보다 클 수 있다.
상기 커패시턴스-타입 센서는 변압기 절연유 또는 차량 엔진오일의 전기 용량값을 측정하여 오염 정도를 확인할 수 있다.
그리고, 상기의 목적을 달성하기 위하여, 본 발명의 일 실시예에 따른 커패시턴스-타입 센서의 제조 방법은, (a) 기판 상에 탄소물질을 포함하는 탄소 전극막을 형성하는 단계; (b) 상기 탄소 전극막 상에 절연막을 형성하는 단계; (c) 상기 절연막 상의 적어도 일부에 적어도 하나의 전극을 형성하는 단계; 및 (d) 상기 절연막 상에, 상기 전극의 적어도 일부를 커버하도록 감지막을 형성하는 단계를 포함하는 것을 특징으로 한다.
상기 탄소 전극막은, 그래핀(Graphene), 카본나노튜브(Carbon Nanotube), 탄소섬유(Carbon Fiber), 인조흑연(Artificial Graphite), 카본블랙(Carbon Black), 활성탄소(Activated Carbon) 중 적어도 어느 하나를 포함할 수 있다.
상기 탄소 전극막은, 화학기상증착법 또는 에피택셜 성장법을 이용하여 형성할 수 있다.
상기와 같이 구성된 본 발명에 따르면, 변압기 절연유, 차량 엔진오일 등 의 전기적 특성 또는 전기적 특성의 변화를 높은 감도로 측정할 수 있는 효과가 있다.
또한, 본 발명은 탄소 전극막이 절연유와 직접적으로 접촉하지 않으므로, 내구성 및 안정성이 우수한 커패시턴스-타입 센서 및 이의 제조 방법을 제공할 수 있다.
또한, 본 발명은 응답 속도가 빠르고, 우수한 감도 및 높은 신뢰성을 가지고, 소형화 할 수 있는 커패시턴스-타입 센서 및 이의 제조 방법을 제공할 수 있다.

본 명세서에 있어서, 커패시턴스-타입 센서(정전 커패시턴스-타입 센서, 용량형 센서; 10)는 변압기 절연유, 차량 엔진오일 등의 전기적 특성, 또는 전기적 특성의 변화를 측정하는 것을 상정하여 설명한다. 다만, 본 발명의 커패시턴스-타입 센서(10)는, 변압기 절연유, 차량 엔진오일뿐만 아니라, 기타 광유(mineral oil) 등의 전기적 특성을 측정하는 목적의 범위 내에서는, 그 적용 분야에 제한이 없음을 밝혀둔다.
이하 첨부된 도면을 참조하여 본 발명의 구성을 상세하게 설명하도록 한다.
커패시턴스-타입 센서의 구성
도 1은 본 발명의 일 실시예에 따른 커패시턴스-타입 센서(10)의 전체 구성을 나타내는 개략 단면도이다.
도 1을 참조하면, 커패시턴스-타입 센서(10)는 기판(100), 탄소 전극막(200), 절연막(300), 적어도 하나의 전극(400), 감지막(500)을 포함할 수 있다.
기판(100)은 유리 또는 실리콘을 포함할 수 있다. 일 실시예에 따라, 기판(100)은 알루미나(Alumina)를 포함하는 알루미나 기판으로 구현될 수도 있다. 기판(100)이 실리콘으로 구현된 경우, 실리콘은 전도성을 갖도록 N형 또는 P형으로 도핑(Doping)된 실리콘일 수 있다. N형 실리콘의 경우는 기판에 포함된 전자(electron), P형 실리콘의 경우는 기판에 포함된 정공(hole)을 최대한 활용하기 위해서, 불순물을 높게 주입(highly doping)할 필요가 있다.
기판(100)이 유리나 알루미나 재질인 경우에는, 기판(100) 상에 전도도가 높게 형성되도록, 전도성막(Conductive Layer)를 더 형성할 수 있다. 전도성막은 금속 재질의 도체일 수 있으며, 기판(100)과 탄소 전극막(200) 사이에서 전도가 이루어지도록 할 수 있다.
탄소 전극막(200)은 기판(100) 상에 형성될 수 있다. 탄소 전극막(200)은 탄소물질을 포함할 수 있다. 구체적으로, 탄소 전극막(200)은 탄소물질을 포함할 수 있도록, 그래핀(Graphene), 카본나노튜브(Carbon Nanotube), 탄소섬유(Carbon Fiber), 인조흑연(Artificial Graphite), 카본블랙(Carbon Black), 활성탄소(Activated Carbon) 중 적어도 어느 하나를 포함할 수 있다. 이 중에서, 그래핀이나 카본나노튜브는 탄소 원자들이 2차원 상에서 sp2
결합에 의한 벌집 모양의 배열을 이루면서 원자 한 층의 두께를 갖는 물질로서, 물리적, 화학적으로 매우 안정할 뿐만 아니라, 나노리본(Nanoribbons)의 가장자리 구조를 이용하면 고감도의 커패시턴스-타입 센서(10)를 제조할 수 있는 장점이 있다. 한편, 기판(100) 상에 형성된 탄소 전극막(200)의 면적에 따라 커패시턴스-타입 센서(10)의 감도(Sensitivity)가 변화할 수 있으므로, 탄소 전극막(200)은 기판(100)의 일부분 상에만 형성될 수도 있다.
일 실시예에 따라, 탄소 전극막(200)은 화학기상증착법(Chemical Vapor Deposition, CVD)을 사용하거나, 에피택셜(Epitaxial) 성장법을 사용하여 구현되는 것이 바람직하다. 이 경우, 탄소 전극막(200) 내의 탄소 물질들이 규칙적으로 배열될 수 있고, 균일한 막을 형성할 수 있어, 탄소 전극막(200)이 정전용량을 높게 가질 수 있게 된다. 하지만, 반드시 이에 제한되는 것은 아니며, 그래핀을 포함하는 탄소 전극막(200)을 형성하기 위해서, 기계적 박리법, 화학적 박리법, 프린팅법 등을 사용할 수 있고, 카본나노튜브를 형성하기 위해서, 전기방전법(Arc-Discharge), 레이저 증착법(Laser Vaporization), 플라즈마 화학기상증착법(Plasma Enhanced CVD), 열화학기상증착법(Thermal CVD), 기상합성법(Vapor Phase Growth) 등을 사용할 수 있다.
탄소물질을 포함하는 탄소 전극막(200)은 기판(100)과 접촉하여 정전 커패시턴스-타입 센서(10)의 전기적 특성을 향상시킬 수 있다. 상기 전기적 특성은 캐피시턴스(Capacitance)라고도 불리는 전기 용량(Electric Capacity), 유전율(Permittivity), 또는 유전 상수(Dielectric Constant)일 수 있다. 기판(100)과 탄소 전극막(200)의 접촉체가 높은 초기 용량값을 가지는 커패시터(Capacitor)로서 기능하여 커패시턴스-타입 센서(10)의 전기적 특성을 향상시킬 수도 있다.
화학기상증착법 또는 에피택셜 성장법을 사용하여 탄소 전극막(200)을 형성할 시, 탄소 전극막(200)은 10nm 내지 5㎛의 두께로 형성될 수 있다. 탄소 전극막(200)의 두께가 얇을수록 센서의 감도가 향상될 수 있는데, 상기 방법을 통해서 막 두께를 용이하게 제어할 수 있고, 얇은 두께로 균일하게 형성할 수 있는 이점이 있다.
절연막(300)은 탄소물질을 포함하는 탄소 전극막(200) 상에 형성될 수 있다. 절연막(300)은 산화물, 질화물과 같은 무기 절연 재료 또는 유기 절연재료를 포함할 수 있다. 무기 절연 재료는 Si3N4, SiON, SiO2, ZnO, AlN, MgF2, In2O3, CeO2, La2O3 등이 있으며, 열 증착(Thermal Evaporation), 전자빔 증착(E-Beam Evaporation), 스퍼터링(Sputtering), 열 CVD, 플라즈마 CVD, 광 CVD, MO-CVD, 레이져 CVD, LPCVD(Low Pressure CVD), UHVCVD(Ultra-high vacuum CVD), DLICVD(Direct liquid injection CVD), AACVD(Aerosol-assisted CVD), MPCVD(Microwave Plasma CVD), PECVD(Plasma Enhanced CVD), ALCVD(Atomic Layer CVD). Sol-Gel 법 등을 사용하여 형성할 수 있다. 유기 절연 재료는 PC(Poly Carbonate), PES(Polyether Sulfone), PET(Polyethylene Terephthalate), PI(Polyimide), Teflon 등이 있으며, 스핀 코팅(Spin Coating), 스프레이 코팅(Spray Coating), 정전 스프레이 코팅(Electro Spray Coating), 전기방사(Electrospinning), Sol-Gel 법 등을 사용하여 형성할 수 있다.
절연막(300)의 두께와 관련하여, 절연막(300)이 500nm보다 두꺼우면, 커패시턴스-타입 센서(10)의 초기 용량값이 낮아지고, 감도가 감소할 수 있다. 또한, 절연막(300)의 두께가 100nm보다 작으면, 절연막(300)이 탄소 전극막(200)을 충분히 덮지 못하여 절연막(300) 상에 형성되는 전극(400)과 탄소 전극막(200)이 연결됨에 따라, 유전체를 사용하여 유전율을 측정할 수 있는 센서가 아니라 저항을 측정하는 센서로 작동할 수 있다. 따라서, 절연막(300)은 100nm 내지 500nm의 두께로 형성되는 것이 바람직하다. 다만, 본 발명이 절연막(300)의 두께에 의하여 그 권리범위가 제한되는 것은 아니다.
본 발명은, 탄소물질을 포함하는 탄소 전극막(200)이 기판(100)과 절연막(300) 사이에 개재되는 것을 특징으로 한다. 즉, 탄소 전극막(200)이 커패시턴스-타입 센서(10)의 외곽에 노출되어 배치되는 것이 아니라, 커패시턴스-타입 센서(10)를 구성하는 여러 층(Layer)의 사이에 개재될 수 있다. 그래핀, 탄소나노튜브 등을 포함하는 탄소 전극막이 커패시턴스-타입 센서의 최외곽에 배치되는 경우, 탄소 전극막이 박리되거나 갈라지는 등의 결함이 발생할 가능성이 높다. 이 결함은 전체 정전용량(Capacitance)를 낮추는 결과를 낳을 수 있다. 보다 구체적으로 살펴보면 아래와 같다.
첫번째로, 가령, 그래핀 페이스트를 사용하여 커패시턴스-타입 센서의 최외곽에 스크린 프린팅을 하는 경우에는, 그래핀 파우더에 의해 각각의 그래핀 판상이 규칙적으로 배열될 수 없어 정전용량의 증가에 악영향을 미칠 수 있다.
두번째로, 그래핀 페이스트를 만들기 위해서는, 그래핀, 에틸셀룰로우즈(Ethyl Cellulose), 알파-테피놀(α-Terpineol), 글래스프릿(Glass Frit) 과 같은 물질을 섞는다. 그리고, 그래핀 페이스트에 소결 공정을 거치면, 에틸셀룰로우즈와 알파-테피놀은 휘발되어 사라지고, 글래스프릿은 그래핀을 고정해두기 위해 남게되는데, 이 글래스프릿이 불순물로 작용할 수 있다. 뿐만 아니라, 그래핀은 400℃ 이상에서부터 Tg(Thermogravimetry) 값이 급격히 하강하는데, 400℃ 이상에서 수행되는 소결 공정은 그래핀의 손실을 유발하며, 이는 탄소 전극막의 전체 정전용량을 떨어뜨리는 악영향을 미칠 수 있다.
세번째로, 커패시턴스-타입 센서를 통해 변압기 절연유의 전기적 특성을 측정하는 과정에서, 절연유 등의 기름이 탄소 전극막에 접촉하고 유동하는 과정에서 탄소 전극막을 박리시킬 수 있다. 이에 따라 정전용량이 낮아지고, 커패시턴스-타입 센서의 안정성이 낮아지는 현상이 발생한다.
반면에, 본 발명은 기판(100) 상부에 탄소물질을 포함하는 탄소 전극막(200)을 화학기상증착법 등을 사용하여 증착하거나, 에피텍셜 성장시킴에 따라서 그래핀, 카본나노튜브 등이 규칙적으로 배열될 수 있다. 또한, 증착, 에피텍셜 성장 등은 소결 공정을 추가로 수행할 필요가 없으므로, 형성된 탄소 전극막(200)이 손실되는 문제점을 해소할 수 있다. 이 외에, 그래핀 페이스트를 사용하여 탄소 전극막(200)을 형성한다고 하여도 기판(100)과 절연막(300) 사이에 탄소 전극막(200)을 배치하므로 소결 공정을 생략할 수 있어, 탄소 전극막(200)이 손실되는 문제점을 해소할 수 있다.
그리고, 변압기 절연유의 전기적 특성을 측정하는 과정에서, 절연유와 탄소 전극막(200)의 직접적인 접촉이 일어나지 않고, 전도성 있는 기판(100)에 의해 탄소 전극막(200)이 보호될 수 있다.
이와 같은 이유로, 탄소 전극막(200)은 불순물이 없고, 균일하고 규칙적인 배열을 가지는 탄소물질을 포함할 수 있으므로, 본 발명의 커패시턴스-타입 센서(10)는 정전용량을 높게 형성할 수 있으며, 탄소 전극막(200)에 결함 발생 가능성을 낮추어, 커패시턴스-타입 센서(10)의 안정성 및 내구성을 향상시킬 수 있는 이점이 있다.
다시, 도 1을 참조하면, 적어도 하나의 전극(400)은 절연막(300) 상에 형성될 수 있다. 전극(400)은 소정의 패턴을 갖도록 구현될 수 있다. 전극(400)은 전도체(Electric Conductor), 예컨대, 크롬(Cr), 금(Au), 은(Ag) 알루미늄(Al), 백금(Pt), 몰리브덴(Mo), 철(Fe), 구리(Cu), 텅스텐(W), 팔라듐(Pd), 세슘(Cs), 리튬(Li), 칼슘(Ca), 마그네슘-알루미늄(Mg-Al) 등과 같은 금속 물질 중 적어도 하나 이상을 포함할 수 있다. 일 실시예에 따라, 전극(400)은 ITO(Indium Tin Oxide), IZO(Indium Zinc Oxide), 그래핀이나 카본나노튜브와 같이 탄소를 포함하는 투명 전극으로 구현될 수도 있다. 전극(400)은 열 증착(Thermal Evaporation), 전자빔 증착(E-Beam Evaporation), 스퍼터링(Sputtering), 열 CVD, 플라즈마 CVD, 광 CVD, MO-CVD, 레이져 CVD, LPCVD(Low Pressure CVD), UHVCVD(Ultra-high vacuum CVD), DLICVD(Direct liquid injection CVD), AACVD(Aerosol-assisted CVD), MPCVD(Microwave Plasma CVD), PECVD(Plasma Enhanced CVD), ALCVD(Atomic Layer CVD). Sol-Gel 법, 프린팅 방법 등을 사용하여 형성할 수 있다. 전극(400)은 100nm 내지 300nm의 두께로 형성될 수 있다. 전극(400)에는 60Hz 내지 100kHz의 주파수를 갖는 전원이 인가될 수 있으나, 본 발명이 전극(400)에 인가되는 전원의 주파수의 범위에 한정되는 것은 아니다.
감지막(500)은 적어도 하나의 전극(400)이 형성된 절연막(300) 상에 형성된다. 즉, 감지막(500)은 전극(400)이 형성되지 않은 절연막(300)의 일부와 적어도 하나의 전극(400) 위에 형성된다. 감지막(500)은 절연막(300)과 같은 산화물 또는 질화물로 구현될 수 있고, 100nm 내지 1000nm의 두께로 형성될 수 있다.
절연유 등의 측정 대상 물질은 감지막(500)의 표면에 접촉되고, 탄소 전극막(200)의 정전 용량의 변화를 측정함에 따라 측정 대상 물질의 상태를 판단할 수 있다. 또한, 절연유 등의 측정 대상 물질은 기판(100)의 표면에 접촉되고, 기판(100)과 탄소 전극막(200)의 접촉체의 정전 용량의 변화를 측정함에 따라 측정 대상 물질의 상태를 판단할 수도 있다.
한편, 본 발명의 커패시턴스-타입 센서(10)는 적층형(Stack Type)으로 구현될 수도 있다. 일 예로, 기판(100)/탄소 전극막(200)/절연막(300)/전극(400)/ 감지막(500)을 반복 적층하여 적층형 커패시턴스-타입 센서를 형성할 수 있고, 다른 예로, 기판(100) 상에 탄소 전극막(200)/절연막(300)/전극(400)/감지막(500)을 반복하여 적층하여 적층형 커패시턴스-타입 센서를 형성할 수도 있다. 이 경우, 크기는 커지지만, 보다 감도가 향상된 커패시턴스-타입 센서를 구현할 수 있다.
위와 같이, 커패시턴스-타입 센서(10)는 탄소물질을 함유하는 탄소 전극막(200)을 이용하여 센서의 초기 용량값을 증가하여 센서의 감도와 정확성을 향상시킬 수 있으며, 측정 대상 물질의 상태를 판단할 수 있다.
도 2는 본 발명의 일 실시예에 따른 커패시턴스-타입 센서(10)의 전극(400)을 나타내는 도면이다.
도 1과 도 2를 참조하면, 적어도 하나의 전극(400)은 제1 전극(410)과 제2 전극(420)을 포함할 수 있다. 제1 전극(410)과 제2 전극(420)은 빗살형 전극(Interdigit Electrode)으로 구현될 수 있다. 빗살형 전극으로 구현되는 제1 전극(410)과 제2 전극(420)이 갖는 패턴은 다음과 같은 실시예를 통하여 설명될 수 있다. 다만, 본 발명에 의한 제1 전극(410)과 제2 전극(420)의 구성 및 형태가 아래의 실시예에 한정되는 것은 아니며, 제1 전극(410)과 제2 전극(420)은 원형, 삼각형, 및 사각형 등을 포함하는 다각형 형태의 빗살형 전극으로 구현될 수도 있으며, 용량값을 증가시키는 목적의 범위 내에서, 빗살형이 아닌 직선형, 패턴형 전극 등으로 구현될 수도 있다.
제1 전극(410)은 제1 방향, 예컨대 기판(100)의 길이 방향(또는, 폭 방향)으로 연장된 제1 연장부(411)와 제1 연장부(411)로부터 제2 방향, 예컨대 기판(100)의 폭 방향(또는, 길이 방향)으로 돌출된 다수의 제1 가지부들(Branch; 413)을 포함한다. 이때, 제2 방향과 제1 방향은 서로 직각을 형성하거나 미리 정해진 각도를 형성할 수 있다. 예컨대, 제1 전극(410)과 제2 전극(420)은 톱니 형의 빗살형 전극으로 구현될 수도 있다.
제2 전극(420)은 제1 방향과 반대 방향 또는 제1 방향으로 연장된 제2 연장부(421)와 제2 연장부(421)로부터 제2 방향과는 반대 방향으로 돌출된 다수의 제2 가지부들(423)을 포함한다. 제2 방향은 제2 전극(420)을 향하는 방향이므로, 제1 가지부들(413)과 제2 가지부들(423)은 서로 엇갈려서 배치될 수 있다.
또한, 제1 전극(410)의 폭과 제2 전극(420)의 폭, 특히 제1 가지부들(413)의 폭과 제2 가지부들(423)의 폭은 100㎛ 이하로, 제1 전극(410)과 제2 전극(420), 특히 제1 가지부들(413)과 제2 가지부들(423) 사이의 간격은 100㎛ 이하로 구현될 수 있으나, 본 발명이 전극의 폭이나 전극 사이의 간격에 제한되는 것은 아니다.
위와 같이 소정의 패턴을 제1 전극(410)과 제2 전극(420)에 구현하여, 마주보는 전극의 표면적을 증가시키므로 커패시턴스-타입 센서(10)의 감도가 크게 향상될 수 있다.
커패시턴스-타입 센서의 제조 과정
도 3 내지 도 7은 본 발명의 일 실시예에 따른 커패시턴스-타입 센서를 제조하는 과정을 나타내는 도면이다.
도 3에 도시된 바와 같이, 커패시턴스-타입 센서(10)를 제조하기 위해 기판(100)이 준비된다. 기판(100)이 실리콘으로 구현된 경우, 실리콘은 N형 또는 P형으로 도핑(Doping)된 실리콘일 수 있으며, N형 실리콘의 경우는 기판에 포함된 전자(electron), P형 실리콘의 경우는 기판에 포함된 정공(hole)을 최대한 활용하기 위해서, 불순물을 높게 주입(highly doping)할 필요가 있다. 기판(100)이 유리나 알루미나로 구현된 경우, 기판(100) 상에 전도성 막(미도시)을 더 형성할 수 있다.
도 4에 도시된 바와 같이, 기판(100) 상에는 화학기상증착법(CVD), 또는 에피택셜 성장법을 사용하여 탄소물질을 포함하는 탄소 전극막(200)을 10nm 내지 5㎛의 두께로 형성할 수 있다. 상기와 같은 과정을 통하여 제조된 탄소물질을 포함하는 탄소 전극막(200)을 포함하는 커패시턴스-타입 센서(10)는 높은 초기 용량값을 가질 수 있어, 센서의 감도와 안정성 내구성을 보장할 수 있다.
도 5에 도시된 바와 같이, 탄소 전극막(200) 상에 절연막(300)이 형성될 수 있다. 절연막(300)은 100nm 내지 500nm의 두께로 형성되는 것이 바람직하다. 절연막(300)은 산화물, 질화물과 같은 무기 절연 재료 또는 유기 절연재료를, 물리기상증착방법(Physical Vapor Deposition) 방법인 열증착, 전자빔 증착, 스퍼터링을 사용하거나 CVD 방법 등을 사용하여 형성할 수 있음은 상술한 바 있다.
도 6에 도시된 바와 같이, 절연막(300) 상에는 적어도 하나의 전극(400: 410, 420)이 형성된다. 소정의 패턴을 갖는 전극(400)을 형성하기 위해서는 감광제 코팅, 노광 및 식각 공정을 포함하는 리소그라피(lithography) 공정이 수행될 수 있다. 기판(100) 상에 탄소물질을 포함하는 탄소 전극막(200)을 형성하고, 형성된 탄소 전극막(200) 상에 절연막(300)을 형성한 후, 리소그라피 공정을 수행함으로써 빗살형태와 같은 소정의 패턴을 갖는 적어도 하나의 전극(400)이 형성될 수 있다.
도 7에 도시된 바와 같이, 적어도 하나의 전극(400)이 형성된 절연막(300) 상에는 감지막(500)이 형성될 수 있다. 질화물 또는 산화물로 구현될 수 있는 절연막(500)은 증발 증착, 스퍼터링 등을 포함하는 PVD 또는 CVD을 통하여, 100nm 내지 1000nm의 두께로 형성될 수 있다. 이때, 감지막(500)은 절연막(300) 상의 일부분에만 형성될 수도 있으며, 상기 일부분은 적어도 제1 전극(410)의 패턴, 즉 제1 연장부(411)와 제1 가지부들(413) 및 제2 전극(420)의 패턴, 즉 제2 연장부(421)와 제2 가지부들(423)이 형성된 부분을 포함한다.
도 8은 본 발명의 일 실시예에 따른 탄소 전극막(200)의 전기적 특성이 변화하는 원리를 설명하기 위한 도면이다.
탄소 전극막(200)은 탄소물질을 복수의 입자 형태로 포함할 수 있다. 도 8에는, 설명의 편의를 위해, 탄소물질을 그래핀으로 상정하고, 서로 이웃하는 2개의 그래핀 입자들(201, 202)만을 도시한다.
제1 전극(410)과 제2 전극(420)에 전압이 인가되는 경우, 그래핀 입자(201, 202)들에 흡착되는 이온의 양이 변화하게 되고, 이에 따라 탄소 전극막(200)[및 전도성 기판(100)]의 전기 용량(또는 유전율)이 변화하게 된다.
제1 그래핀 입자(201)와 제2 그래핀 입자(202)의 이격거리가 d일 때, 제1 그래핀 입자(201)와 제2 그래핀 입자(202) 간에는 미세한 전기 용량을 가지게 된다. 제1 그래핀 입자(201)는 제2 그래핀 입자(202) 이외의 복수의 그래핀 입자들과 인접할 수 있고, 제1 그래핀 입자(201)를 중심으로 얻을 수 있는 전기 용량은 제1 그래핀 입자(201)와 인접하는 복수의 그래핀 입자들 각각과의 사이에서 발생하는 미세한 전기 용량 또는 탄소 전극막(200)에 포함된 복수의 그래핀 입자들 각각과의 사이에서 발생하는 미세한 전기 용량의 총합으로 볼 수 있다.
이와 같이 방식으로, 탄소 전극막(200)에 포함된 복수의 그래핀 입자들 각각의 전기 용량이 고려될 수 있고, 탄소 전극막(200)의 전기 용량은 상기 복수의 그래핀 입자들 각각의 전기 용량을 모두 합산한 값이 될 수 있다.
탄소 전극막(200)은 수많은 탄소 입자들이 포함되어 있어, 높은 초기 용량값을 갖는 커패시턴스-타입 센서(10)가 제작될 수 있다. 즉, 탄소물질을 포함하는 탄소 전극막(200)을 사용하지 않을 경우, 전극(400) 자체만의 초기 용량값은 수~수십㎊으로, 초기 용량값이 낮아 센서의 감도가 매우 낮다. 반면에, 탄소물질을 포함하는 탄소 전극막(200)을 사용할 경우, 초기 용량값이 수백㎊~수nF 이상이 되어 센서의 감도를 향상시킬 수 있다.
특히, 미국특허공보 제4646070호에 따르면, 유동 커패시턴스(floating capacitance)의 영향을 줄이고 절연유, 윤활유 등의 열화 정도를 측정하기 위해서, 측정 초기 용량값이 400pF 이상을 요구하는데, 본 발명은 기판(100)과 탄소 전극막(200)의 접촉체가 높은 초기 용량값을 가지는 커패시터로서 기능하여 센서의 감도를 향상시킬 수 있는 이점이 있다. 구체적으로, 전도성 기판(100) 상부에 탄소 전극막(200)을 화학기상증착법 또는 에피텍셜 성장으로 형성하여 탄소물질이 균일하고 규칙적인 배열을 가지며, 기판(100)에 의해 탄소 전극막(200)이 보호되어 겸함 발생 가능성을 낮출 수 있으므로, 측정 초기 용량값을 400pF 이상으로 높게 형성할 수 있다.
실시예
차량 엔진오일, 변압기 절연유 등의 측정에 앞서, 상술한 제조 과정을 따라 커패시턴스-타입 센서(10)를 제조하였다. 먼저, 기판(100)은 N형 실리콘 기판을 사용하였고, 기판(100) 상부에 화학기상증착법을 사용하여 그래핀 전극막(200)[탄소 전극막(200)]을 형성하였다. 이어서, 그래핀 전극막(200) 상에 SiO2 절연막(300)을 2,000Å(200nm) 두께로 형성하였다. 이어서, 절연막(300) 상에 제1, 2 전극(410, 420)의 폭이 15㎛, 제1 가지부들(413)과 제2 가지부들(423) 사이의 간격이 15㎛가 되도록, 3,000Å(300nm) 두께의 알루미늄(Al) 전극(400)을 형성하였다. 이어서, 전극(400) 상에 SiO2 감지막(500)을 형성하였다.
위와 같은 과정으로 제조한 커패시턴스-타입 센서(10)는 상온, 대기 중에서 초기 전기 용량값이 400pF 이상으로 나타나, 유동 커패시턴스(floating capacitance)의 영향을 줄이고 절연유, 윤활유 등의 열화 정도를 측정하기 위한 충분한 초기 전기 용량값을 가지는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 이를 가지고, 자동차 주행거리에 따른 엔진오일 샘플을 이용하여 용량값 변화를 측정하고, 전산가(TAN: Total Acide Number)와 비교하여 센서의 성능을 평가하였다.
도 9는 본 발명의 일 실시예에 따른 차량 엔진오일의 주행 거리(Distance)에 따른 전기 용량값(Capacitance)의 변화를 나타내는 그래프이고, 도 10은 본 발명의 일 실시예에 따른 차량 엔진오일의 주행 거리(Distance)에 따른 전산가(Total Acide Number)의 변화를 나타내는 그래프이다. 전산가는 차량 엔진오일뿐만 아니라 변압기 절연유의 오염정도를 나타내는 기준으로 사용될 수 있다.
도 9를 참조하면, 80℃의 엔진오일을 대상으로 1kHz의 전원을 인가하여, 엔진오일의 전기 용량의 변화를 측정하였다. 각각의 주행 거리 0㎞, 2000㎞, 4000㎞, 6000㎞, 8000㎞ 별로 측정된 각각의 용량값은 511㎊, 516㎊, 520㎊, 522㎊, 524㎊이였으며, 전체 변화는 약 13pF임을 확인할 수 있었다.
도 10을 참조하면, 각각의 주행 거리 0㎞, 2000㎞, 4000㎞, 6000㎞, 8000㎞ 별로 측정된 각각의 전산가(mg KOH/g)는 1.20, 2.25, 2.53, 2.85, 3.34이였으며, 전체 변화는 약 2.14임을 확인할 수 있었다.
도 9 및 도 10를 비교하면, 주행 거리에 따른 용량값, 전산가의 변화가 유사한 양상을 가지는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 따라서, 본 발명의 커패시턴스-타입 센서(10)가 초기 전기 용량값 400pF 이상을 가지고 측정을 수행하며, 용량값 변화로서 전산가의 변화를 대체하여 절연유, 윤활유 등의 오염정도를 측정할 수 있음을 확인할 수 있었다.
위와 같이, 본 발명의 일 실시예에 따른 커패시턴스-타입 센서(10)는 높은 초기 전기 용량값을 가지고, 우수한 감도 및 높은 신뢰성을 가지는 이점이 있다. 또한, 응답 속도가 빠르고, 소형화할 수 있으며, 저비용으로 대량 생산이 가능한 이점이 있다.
본 발명은 상술한 바와 같이 바람직한 실시예를 들어 도시하고 설명하였으나, 상기 실시예에 한정되지 아니하며 본 발명의 정신을 벗어나지 않는 범위 내에서 당해 발명이 속하는 기술분야에서 통상의 지식을 가진 자에 의해 다양한 변형과 변경이 가능하다. 그러한 변형예 및 변경예는 본 발명과 첨부된 특허청구범위의 범위 내에 속하는 것으로 보아야 한다.

- 기판;상기 기판 상에 형성되고, 탄소물질을 포함하는 탄소 전극막;상기 탄소 전극막 상에 형성된 절연막;상기 절연막 상의 적어도 일부에 형성된 적어도 하나의 전극; 및상기 전극의 적어도 일부를 커버하며 상기 절연막 상에 형성된 감지막을 포함하는, 커패시턴스-타입 센서.
- 제1항에 있어서,상기 탄소 전극막은, 그래핀(Graphene), 카본나노튜브(Carbon Nanotube), 탄소섬유(Carbon Fiber), 인조흑연(Artificial Graphite), 카본블랙(Carbon Black), 활성탄소(Activated Carbon) 중 적어도 어느 하나를 포함하는, 커패시턴스-타입 센서.
- 제1항에 있어서,상기 기판은 실리콘, 유리 또는 알루미나(Alumina)를 포함하는, 커패시턴스-타입 센서.

- (a) 기판 상에 탄소물질을 포함하는 탄소 전극막을 형성하는 단계;(b) 상기 탄소 전극막 상에 절연막을 형성하는 단계;(c) 상기 절연막 상의 적어도 일부에 적어도 하나의 전극을 형성하는 단계; 및(d) 상기 절연막 상에, 상기 전극의 적어도 일부를 커버하도록 감지막을 형성하는 단계를 포함하는, 커패시턴스-타입 센서의 제조 방법.
- 제16항에 있어서,상기 탄소 전극막은, 그래핀(Graphene), 카본나노튜브(Carbon Nanotube), 탄소섬유(Carbon Fiber), 인조흑연(Artificial Graphite), 카본블랙(Carbon Black), 활성탄소(Activated Carbon) 중 적어도 어느 하나를 포함하는, 커패시턴스-타입 센서의 제조 방법.
- 제16항에 있어서,상기 탄소 전극막은, 화학기상증착법 또는 에피택셜 성장법을 이용하여 형성하는, 커패시턴스-타입 센서의 제조 방법.
