이차전지
본 발명은 이차전지에 관한 것이다.
이차전지는 충전이 불가능한 일차전지와는 달리 충전 및 방전이 가능한 전지이다. 이차전지는 휴대폰이나 노트북 및 캠코더와 같이 휴대 가능한 소형 전자기기에 사용되거나 하이브리드 자동차 등의 모터 구동용 전원으로 널리 사용되고 있다.
이차전지는 양극과 음극 및 양극과 음극 사이에 개재된 세퍼레이터를 포함하는 전극조립체를 구비한다. 전극조립체는 케이스 내부에 수용되어 충전과 방전을 수행하며, 케이스는 단자를 구비하여 전류를 공급하거나 공급받는다.
이차전지 내부에는 가연성 물질들이 내장되어 있어, 과충전, 과전류, 기타 물리적 외부 충격 등에 의해 발열, 폭발 등의 위험성이 있으므로 안전성이 취약한 단점이 있다.
따라서, 이차전지에는 과충전, 과전류 등의 비정상인 상태를 효과적으로 제어할 수 있도록 온도 소자가 구비된 안전 부재, 보호회로모듈(Protection Circuit Module: PCM) 등과 같은 안전소자들이 전극조립체와 전기적으로 접속된 상태로 구성된다.
안전 부재가 과열될 경우, 전극단자와 전기적으로 연결된 안전 부재는 전극단자와 연결이 끊어질 수 있으며, 보호회로모듈은 정상적으로 작동되지 않거나 변형되는 등의 문제가 발생될 수 있다.
본 발명의 일 측면은 안전 부재가 보호회로모듈과 직접적으로 접촉되는 것을 방지하고, 안전 부재를 전극단자에 밀착시켜 전극단자에서 안전 부재가 이탈되는 것을 방지할 수 있는 이차전지를 제공하고자 한다.
본 발명의 실시예에 따른 이차전지는 제1 전극, 제2 전극 및 세퍼레이터를 포함하는 전극조립체, 상기 전극조립체가 내부에 수용되는 케이스, 상기 케이스에 형성된 개구에 결합되고, 상기 제1 전극과 전기적으로 연결되는 캡플레이트, 상기 제2 전극과 전기적으로 연결되며, 상기 캡플레이트에서 돌출된 전극단자, 상기 캡플레이트 상에 연결되는 보호회로모듈, 상기 전극단자의 일측에 배치되어 상기 전극단자와 전기적으로 연결되고, 상기 보호회로모듈과 전기적으로 연결되는 안전 부재, 상기 보호회로모듈 및 상기 안전 부재 사이에 배치되고, 상기 안전 부재를 덮으면서 상기 전극단자까지 연장되는 제1 절연필름을 포함할 수 있다.
상기 안전 부재는, 상기 전극단자를 향해 돌출되어 상기 전극단자 상면에 연결된 제1 접속리드, 상기 제1 접속리드와 반대 방향으로 돌출되며, 상기 보호회로모듈의 접속부와 전기적으로 연결되는 리드연결부를 가지는 제2 접속리드 및 상기 제1 접속리드 및 상기 제2 접속리드 사이에 배치되는 온도 소자를 포함할 수 있다.
상기 제1 접속리드는, 상기 전극단자와 연결되는 제1 부분을 포함하고, 상기 제1 부분에서 절곡되어 상기 온도 소자 하부와 상기 캡플레이트 사이에 형성된 제2 부분을 포함할 수 있다.
상기 제1 절연필름은, 상기 제1 접속리드로부터 상기 제2 접속리드까지 연장될 수 있다.
상기 제1 절연필름은, 상기 제1 부분과 이격되어 상기 보호회로모듈에 부착될 수 있다.
상기 리드연결부는 내측으로 우묵하게 형성된 만입부가 형성될 수 있다.
상기 온도 소자는 PTC(Positive Temperature Coefficient) 소자로 이루어질 수 있다.
상기 캡플레이트와 상기 안전 부재 사이에 배치되는 제2 절연필름을 포함할 수 있다.
상기 제1 절연필름 두께는, 상기 제2 절연필름 두께보다 얇게 형성될 수 있다.
상기 제1 절연필름 두께는, 상기 제2 절연필름의 두께 대비 1/3 내지 2/3의 두께로 형성될 수 있다.
상기 제1 절연필름은, 상기 제2 절연필름 보다 열전도율이 낮게 형성될 수 있다.
본 발명의 일 실시예에 따른 이차전지는, 안전 부재가 과열 되어도 보호회로모듈이 변형되거나 비정상으로 작동하는 것을 방지할 수 있고, 안전 부재가 전극단자를 향해 밀착되어 안전 부재가 전극단자로부터 이탈되는 것을 방지할 수 있다.
도 1은 본 발명의 일 실시예에 따른 이차전지를 도시한 사시도이다.

이하, 첨부한 도면을 참고로 하여 본 발명의 실시예에 대하여 본 발명이 속하는 기술분야에서 통상의 지식을 가진 자가 용이하게 실시할 수 있도록 상세히 설명한다. 본 발명은 여러 가지 상이한 형태로 구현될 수 있으며 여기에서 설명하는 실시예에 한정되지 않는다.
도면에서 본 발명을 명확하게 설명하기 위해서 설명과 관계없는 부분은 생략하였으며, 명세서 전체를 통하여 동일 또는 유사한 구성요소에 대해서는 동일한 참조부호를 붙였다.
또한, 도면에서 나타난 각 구성의 크기 및 두께는 설명의 편의를 위해 임의로 나타내었으므로, 본 발명이 반드시 도시된 바에 한정되지 않는다.
명세서 전체에서, 어떤 부분이 다른 부분과 "연결"되어 있다고 할 때, 이는 "직접적으로 연결"되어 있는 경우뿐 만 아니라, 다른 부재를 사이에 두고 "간접적으로 연결"된 것도 포함한다. 또한, 어떤 부분이 어떤 구성요소를 "포함"한다고 할 때, 이는 특별히 반대되는 기재가 없는 한 다른 구성요소를 제외하는 것이 아니라 다른 구성요소를 더 포함할 수 있는 것을 의미한다.
도 1은 본 발명의 일 실시예에 따른 이차전지를 도시한 사시도이고, 도 2는 도 1에 나타낸 이차전지의 분해 사시도이다.
도 1 및 도 2를 참고하면, 본 발명의 일 실시예에 따른 이차전지(100)는 전극조립체 및 전극조립체를 수용하는 케이스(20), 캡플레이트(21), 보호회로모듈(30), 안전 부재(50)를 포함할 수 있다. 이하에서는 각형 전지를 예로써 설명하나, 본 발명이 이에 제한되는 것은 아니며, 본 발명은 파우치 전지, 리튬 폴리머 전지 등 다양한 이차전지에 대하여 적용될 수 있다.
전극조립체는 제1 전극, 제2 전극 및 제1 전극과 제2 전극 사이에 배치된 세퍼레이터를 포함한다.
케이스(20) 내부에는 전극조립체가 수용되고, 케이스(20)는 상단에 개구부가 형성되어 전극조립체를 수용하는 공간이 형성된 상자로 이루어진다. 케이스(20) 내부에는 전극조립체와 전해액이 수용된다. 케이스(20)는 알루미늄 또는 알루미늄 합금을 급속 딥 드로잉과 같은 방법으로 가공하여 제작될 수 있다.
캡플레이트(21)는 케이스(20)의 개구부에 결합되어 케이스(20)를 밀폐하며, 알루미늄 또는 알루미늄 합금과 같은 전기 전도성 금속 재질로 이루어진다. 캡플레이트(21) 하면에서 제1 전극에서 돌출된 제1 전극탭이 캡플레이트(21)와 전기적으로 연결되어, 캡플레이트(21)와 케이스(20)는 제1 전극으로 대전될 수 있다. 다른예로, 케이스(20)와 캡플레이트(21) 사이에 가스켓이 개재되어 캡플레이트(21)만 전기적으로 대전될 수 있다.
전극단자(24)는 캡플레이트(21)의 중앙에 위치할 수 있다. 전극단자(24)는 절연개스킷(24a)을 매개로 캡플레이트(21)에 설치되며 절연개스킷(24a)은 전극단자(24) 둘레를 감싸면서 전극단자(24)와 캡플레이트(21)를 전기적으로 절연한다. 캡플레이트(21) 하면에서, 제2 전극에서 돌출된 제2 전극탭이 전극단자(24)와 전기적으로 연결될 수 있다.
접속영역(22)은 캡플레이트(21)의 일측에 형성될 수 있다. 캡플레이트(21)는 보호회로모듈(30)과 상부커버(10)를 물리적으로 결합하기 위해 나사 구멍이 형성될 수 있다. 나사 구멍에는 나사가 결합될 수 있다. 이때, 나사 구멍 근처에 접속영역(22)이 형성되고, 제1 전극으로 대전된 캡플레이트(21)는 보호회로모듈(30)과 접속영역을 통해 전기적으로 연결할 수 있다.
보호회로모듈(30)은 캡플레이트(21) 상에 설치되며 회로소자들(32)을 포함할 수 있다. 보호회로모듈(30)은 캡플레이트(21)보다 짧은 길이를 갖는데 보호회로모듈(30)의 길이는 캡플레이트(21)의 길이의 1/3 내지 2/3으로 이루어질 수 있다.
보호회로모듈(30)은 측면에서 캡플레이트(21)를 향하여 돌출된 연결부재(42)를 매개로 캡플레이트(21)에 전기적으로 연결된다. 연결부재(42)는 니켈 플레이트로 이루어질 수 있으며, 연결부재(42)는 접속영역(22) 솔더링 방식에 의해 접합될 수 있다. 연결부재(42)는 절곡된 금속판으로 이루어지며 나사 구멍이 형성되어 있다.
보호회로모듈(30)에는 리드단자(40)가 설치되며 리드단자(40)는 외부 기기와 연결될 수 있다.
이차전지(100)는 보호회로모듈(30)을 덮는 상부커버(10)를 포함하는데 상부커버(10)는 보호회로모듈(30)을 감싸며 캡플레이트(21)에 나사(12a, 14a) 등에 의하여 고정될 수 있다. 상부커버(10)의 양측에는 나사홈(12, 14)이 형성되고, 나사홈(12, 14)에는 보호 캡(12b, 14b)이 결합 될 수 있다.
안전 부재(50)는 캡플레이트(21)와 보호회로모듈(30) 사이에 배치될 수 있다. 보호회로모듈(30)은 안전 부재(50)를 매개로 전극단자(24)와 전기적으로 연결된다. 안전 부재(50)는 전극단자(24)에 연결되는 제1 접속리드(52), 보호회로모듈(30)의 접속부(41)에 전기적으로 연결되는 리드연결부(55)가 단부에서 돌출된 제2 접속리드(54) 및 제1 접속리드(52)와 제2 접속리드(54) 사이에 개재되는 온도 소자(56)를 포함한다.
온도 소자(56)는 과전류가 흐를 때 전류를 차단시키는 전류차단수단으로서, 예를 들어, 온도 소자(56)는 PTC (Positive Temperature Coefficient) 소자일 수 있다. PTC 소자는 온도가 증가할수록 저항이 증가하는 소자로서, 이차전지(100)의 온도가 상승하면 저항을 증가시켜서 전류를 차단하고, 반대로 온도가 하강하면 저항의 감소에 의해 전류를 통전시키는 안전소자이다. 즉, 이차전지의 온도에 따라 단전과 통전 기능을 수행할 수 있다. 온도 소자(56)는 고분자 복합체로 이루어질 수 있다.
온도 소자(56)는 제1 접속리드(52)와 제2 접속리드(54)사이에 개재되고, 온도 소자(56)로부터 제1 접속리드(52) 및 제2 접속리드(54)는 서로 반대방향으로 돌출된다.
제1 접속리드(52)는 전극단자(24)와 연결되는 제1 부분(52a) 및 상기 제1 부분(52a)에서 절곡되어 온도 소자(56)의 하면에서 접합하는 제2 부분(52b)을 포함한다. 제1 접속리드(52)를 절곡하여 제1 부분(52a) 및 제2 부분(52b)을 형성하여 보호회로모듈(30)과 캡플레이트(21) 사이에 안전 부재(50) 설치로 인한 공간의 낭비를 최소화할 수 있다.
안전 부재(50)의 제2 부분(52b)과 캡플레이트(21) 사이에는 제2 절연필름(64)이 배치되며, 제2 절연필름(64)은 절연개스킷(24a)과 접속영역(22) 사이에 부착된다. 이를 통해, 제2 전극의 전극단자(24)와 전기적으로 연결된 제1 접속리드(52)가, 제1 전극과 전기적으로 대전된 캡플레이트(21)와 직접적으로 접촉되는 것을 방지할 수 있다.
제2 접속리드(54)는 온도 소자(56)에 접합되고, 보호회로모듈(30)의 접속부(41)에 접합되어 전기적으로 연결되는 리드연결부(55)를 포함한다. 리드연결부(55)는 제2 접속리드(54)의 단부에서 돌출되며, 제2 접속리드(54)보다 폭과 길이가 작게 형성될 수 있다. 또한, 리드연결부(55)의 측면에는 만입부(55a)가 형성될 수 있다. 만입부(55a)는 보호회로모듈(30)의 접속부(41)와 연결할 때, 가이드와 같은 역할로 리드연결부(55)가 접속부(41)의 정위치에 연결될 수 있도록 기능할 수 있다.
도 3은 도 2에 나타낸 이차전지의 안전 부재에 부착된 제1 절연필름을 상부에서 바라본 평면도이고, 도 4는 도 3에 나타낸 이차전지에 적용된 안전 부재와 보호회로모듈 사이에 배치된 제1 절연필름의 제1 실시예를 도시한 정면도이고, 도 5는 도 3에 나타낸 이차전지에 적용된 안전 부재와 보호회로모듈 사이에 배치된 제1 절연필름의 제2 실시예를 도시한 정면도이다.
도 3 내지 5를 참고하면, 안전 부재(50)는 전극단자(24)와 연결되며, 캡플레이트(21)의 일측방향으로 배치된다. 이때, 안전 부재(50)와 캡플레이트(21)가 직접적으로 접촉되는 것을 방지하기 위해서 제2 절연필름(64)이 캡플레이트(21)에 부착되며, 안전 부재(50)와 보호회로모듈(30)이 직접적으로 접촉되는 것을 방지하기 위해서 제1 절연필름(62)이 보호회로모듈(30)에 부착된다.
제1 절연필름(62)은 안전 부재(50)의 리드연결부(55)를 노출하고, 제1 접속리드(52) 와 보호회로모듈(30) 사이, 및 제2 접속리드(54)와 보호회로모듈(30) 사이에 위치한다. 리드연결부(55)는 제2 접속리드(54)의 단부에서 돌출되며, 제1 절연필름(62)의 두께와 같거나 두껍게 형성될 수 있다. 이를 통해 리드연결부(55)는 보호회로모듈(30)의 접속부(41)와 용이하게 전기적으로 연결될 수 있다.
절곡된 제1 접속리드(52)와 제2 접속리드(54) 사이에는 온도 소자(56)가 개재되기 때문에 제1 접속리드(52)의 제1 부분(52a)과 제2 접속리드(54)는 단차가 발생될 수 있다. 이 경우, 도 4에 도시된 바와 같이, 보호회로모듈(30)에 부착된 제1 절연필름(62)과 제1 접속리드(52)의 제1 부분(52a) 사이에는 완충공간(G)이 형성될 수 있다.
제1 절연필름(62)에 의해 안전 부재(50)의 제2 접속리드(54)는 가압되어, 안전 부재(50)의 제1 접속리드(52)는 캡플레이트(21)를 향하여 물리적으로 밀착되고, 제1 절연필름(62)과 제1 접속리드(52)의 제1 부분(52a) 사이에 형성된 완충공간(G)으로 인해, 이차전지(100)에 스웰링 현상 등과 같은 이상현상이 발생될 경우에도, 완충공간(G)에서 충격이 흡수되고, 제1 절연필름(62)에 의해 안전 부재(50)는 캡플레이트(21)와 밀착되므로, 안전 부재(50)의 제1 접속리드(52)는 전극단자(24)와 안정적인 결합을 유지할 수 있다. 따라서, 이 경우, 완충공간(G)에 의해 충격흡수가 되므로, 제1 절연필름(62)의 두께는 다른 경우에 비해 얇게 형성될 수 있다.
제2 절연필름(64)은 캡플레이트(21)에 부착되되, 전극단자(24)의 절연개스킷(24a)과 보호회로모듈(30)의 연결부재(42)와 전기적으로 연결되는 접속영역(22) 사이에 부착된다. 이때, 제1 절연필름(62)의 두께는 제2 절연필름(64)의 두께보다 작게 형성될 수 있다. 즉, 제2 절연필름(64) 두께의 1/3 내지 2/3 의 범위에서 제1 절연필름(62)의 두께가 형성될 수 있다. 이 경우, 제1 절연필름(62)의 열전도율은 제2 절연필름(64)의 열전도율보다 낮게 형성될 수 있다.
보호회로모듈(30)은 안전 부재(50)가 고온일 경우에도 정상적으로 작동하여야 이차전지(100)의 안전소자로서 기능을 할 수 있기 때문에, 제1 절연필름(62)의 열전도율은 제2 절연필름(64)의 열전도율 보다 낮은 재료를 선택한다.
이러한 제1 절연필름(62)은 폴리에틸렌(polyethylene, PE) 또는 폴리프로필렌(polypropylene, PP) 재질로 이루어질 수 있다.
다른 예로, 제1 절연필름(62)과 제2 절연필름(64)의 열전도율이 동일할 경우, 도 5에 도시된 바와 같이, 제1 절연필름(62)의 두께는 제2 절연필름(64)의 두께보다 크게 형성될 수 있다. 제1 절연필름(62)과 제2 절연필름(64)의 두께의 차이를 두어 제1 절연필름(62)의 열전도율을 제2 절연필름(64)의 열전도율 보다 낮게 유도 할 수 있다. 또한, 제1 절연필름(62)의 두께가 크게 되어 안전 부재(50)는 강하게 가압되어 캡플레이트(21)로 밀착력이 향상시킬 수 있다.
따라서, 이러한 제1 절연필름(62)의 두께 및 재료의 선택으로 제1 절연필름(62)의 열전도율을 제2 절연필름(64) 보다 낮게 형성하여 안전 부재(50)에서 발생되는 열이 보호회로모듈(30) 보다는 케이스(20)로 향하는 것을 유도한다. 전술한 바와 같이 이는, 이차전지(100)의 안전소자인 보호회로모듈(30)의 정상 작동의 신뢰성을 향상시켜 이차전지(100)의 발열 폭발 등의 위험성을 효과적으로 제어하기 위함이다.
또한, 제1 절연필름(62)의 두께가 제2 절연필름(64)의 두께보다 크게 형성할 경우, 제1 접속리드(52)와 제2 접속리드(54)의 단차를 줄여, 제1 절연필름(62)과 제1 접속리드(52) 사이에 완충공간(G)을 줄여 설치공간을 최소화 할 수 있다. 즉, 제1 절연필름(62)은 절연뿐 아니라 탄성을 갖는 재질로 이루어져 있기 때문에, 앞선 바와 같이 이차전지(100)의 이상상태로 인해 충격이 가해질 경우, 두껍게 형성된 제1 절연필름(62)으로 인해 충격을 흡수할 수 있기 때문이다.
본 발명을 앞서 기재한 바에 따라 바람직한 실시예를 통해 설명하였지만, 본 발명은 이에 한정되지 않으며 다음에 기재하는 특허청구범위의 개념과 범위를 벗어나지 않는 한, 다양한 수정 및 변형이 가능하다는 것을 본 발명이 속하는 기술 분야에 종사하는 자들은 쉽게 이해할 것이다.

Claims (11)

  1. 제1 전극, 제2 전극 및 세퍼레이터를 포함하는 전극조립체;
    상기 전극조립체가 내부에 수용되는 케이스;
    상기 케이스에 형성된 개구에 결합되고, 상기 제1 전극과 전기적으로 연결되는 캡플레이트;
    상기 제2 전극과 전기적으로 연결되며, 상기 캡플레이트에서 돌출된 전극단자;
    상기 캡플레이트 상에 연결되는 보호회로모듈;
    상기 전극단자의 일측에 배치되어 상기 전극단자와 전기적으로 연결되고, 상기 보호회로모듈과 전기적으로 연결되는 안전 부재; 및
    상기 보호회로모듈 및 상기 안전 부재 사이에 배치되고, 상기 안전 부재를 덮으면서 상기 전극단자까지 연장되는 제1 절연필름을 포함하는 이차전지.
  2. 제 1 항에 있어서,
    상기 안전 부재는,
    상기 전극단자를 향해 돌출되어 상기 전극단자 상면에 연결된 제1 접속리드;
    상기 제1 접속리드와 반대 방향으로 돌출되며, 상기 보호회로모듈의 접속부와 전기적으로 연결되는 리드연결부를 가지는 제2 접속리드; 및
    상기 제1 접속리드 및 상기 제2 접속리드 사이에 배치되는 온도 소자를 포함하는 이차전지.
  3. 제 2 항에 있어서,
    상기 제1 접속리드는,
    상기 전극단자와 연결되는 제1 부분을 포함하고,
    상기 제1 부분에서 절곡되어 상기 온도 소자 하부와 상기 캡플레이트 사이에 형성된 제2 부분을 포함하는 이차전지.
  4. 제 2 항에 있어서,
    상기 제1 절연필름은,
    상기 제1 접속리드로부터 상기 제2 접속리드까지 연장되는 이차전지.
  5. 제 3 항에 있어서,
    상기 제1 절연필름은,
    상기 제1 부분과 이격되어 상기 보호회로모듈에 부착되는 이차전지.
  6. 제 2 항에 있어서,
    상기 리드연결부는 내측으로 우묵하게 형성된 만입부가 형성된 이차전지.
  7. 제 2 항에 있어서,
