Abstract
The present invention relates to an image display device having an automatic personalized information message display function in a setup of multiple image display devices such as in schools or hotels. The present invention more particularly relates to an image display device capable of establishing a remote network connection with remote network devices and having an electronic control unit effecting operation of said image display device.
Description
The present invention relates to an image display device having an automatic personalized informational message display function in a setup of multiple image display devices such as in schools or hotels.
Digital and interactive TV systems provide a comprehensive amount of TV channels and programs leading to the general outcome that conventional methods for configuring the operation of the image display device from among a plurality of setting parameters may become inefficient to the extent that it is unperformable in a time-saving manner.
Standard welcome messages are generally displayed by image display devices as turning-on screen messages. However, it is to be noted that an image display device can also be used for educational purposes in schools and installable in other setups including offices, meeting rooms, hotels and so on where a plurality of users may interact with the same device at different times. Accordingly, it is desirable to remotely communicate a certain information to a temporary user such as a guest in a setup such as a hotel room.
Accordingly, conveying of information to temporary users in a setup of multiple image display devices can be better managed and users can be offered a direct and timely but yet non-intrusive communication messages in an automatic manner. The present invention therefore solves the technical problem of automatically simultaneously conveying personalized messages to a plurality of temporary users in a timely, direct and less intrusive manner.
Among others, one of the prior art disclosures in the technical field of the present invention can be referred to as US2012169931, which discloses a display apparatus comprising a video display, a processor communicating with the video display, a serial flash bearing a default logo, a NAND flash different from the serial flash. The processor communicates with the serial flash and NAND flash. The processor accesses a storage device bearing computer readable instructions to determine whether a first logo is on the NAND flash, and responsive to a determination that the first logo is not on the NAND flash, accessing the serial flash to read a second logo therefrom and present the second logo on the display, and responsive to a determination that the first logo is on the NAND flash, accessing the NAND flash to read the first logo therefrom and present the first logo on the display, the first and second logos being different from each other.
The image display device according to the present invention on the other hand provides remote communication of a certain information to a temporary user among a plurality of different users in an automatic manner in an environment of multiple image display devices as provided by the characterizing features defined in Claim 1.
Primary object of the present invention is to provide an automatic personalized information message display function in a timely, direct and less intrusive manner in a setup of multiple image display devices such as in schools or hotels.
The present invention proposes an image display device in a wireless network
receiving an informational message to display the same by automatic waking up procedure if at least one sensor unit in communication with said image display device detects motion in a position relative to said image display device. Said at least one sensor unit can be a motion sensor or a door sensor.
Accompanying drawings are given solely for the purpose of exemplifying a system and method by which an image display device is operable, whose advantages over prior art were outlined above and will be explained in brief hereinafter.
The drawings are not meant to delimit the scope of protection as identified in the claims nor should they be referred to alone in an effort to interpret the scope identified in said claims without recourse to the technical disclosure in the description of the present invention.
Fig. 1 demonstrates a general flow diagram according to which the image display device of the invention executes the method of operation according to the present invention.
The present invention proposes an image display device enabling a user to receive a personalized message on the screen of an image display device in a setup of multiple image display devices where a temporary guest in a hotel room or in any other setup with a temporary user is present.
An image display device can be initially configured to display a certain non-customized welcome message or informational message. According to the present invention, a certain communication message is remotely conveyed to
a certain image display device in the setup of a plurality of image display devices. An electronic control unit of the image display device automatically displays the received message as a welcome screen message.
According to the present invention, the informational screen message is preferably displayed upon detection of a person in the vicinity of the image display device. Accordingly, the image display device may be equipped with a motion detector or remotely communicate with a motion detector in the form of a wireless network node to detect presence of a user in the environment. Typical motion detectors that have found wide use in domestic and commercial applications can be of use. Alternatively, the image display device can communicate with a door sensor such as a typical reed switch module, which is particularly advantageous in a hotel room.
The electronic control unit of the image display device can receive the textual information to be displayed as a so-called welcome message during turning on of the image display device. The textual information is typically sent to the respective image display device through a remote network connection. The image display device as a network device with a network interface card (NIC) in the local area network (LAN) will be remotely accessible by an authorized user. Alternatively, the textual message can be received through a USB device in any suitable file format including an image file to be displayed as opening screen message.
To this end, the electronic control unit can effectuate automatic waking up procedure either upon detection of a person in the vicinity of the image display device through communication with remote sensors such as door and motions sensors, alternatively in a timer-based triggering scheme or in response to direct interaction of the user with the image display device, i.e. by turning the same on. The first approach is advantageous in that the information is communicated to the user in a timely and direct manner. The hotel guest entering his room will be welcomed by a personalized informational communication on the screen, with certain details such as local weather information, personal subscription services etc. in a customized manner. Further, the information will be conveyed in the preferred or native language of the user. It is to be noted that the information content of the communication can greatly vary in user-specific manner.
Automatic waking up procedure will be activated by the electronic control unit upon receiving the necessary informational message remotely from an authorized network user. Therefore, the local network connection with a respective image display device remains live while the screen thereof is off, i.e. prior to display of the informational message to the user.
In a nutshell, the present invention proposes an image display device capable of establishing a remote network connection with remote network devices and having an electronic control unit effecting operation of said image display device.
In one embodiment of the present invention, said image display device receives an informational message and said electronic control unit of said image display device activates an automatic waking up procedure to display said informational message on a display unit of said image display device as a turning on screen.
In a further embodiment of the present invention, said image display device communicates with at least one sensor unit to detect motion in a position relative to said image display device and the automatic waking up procedure to display said informational message on the display unit of said image display device is activated in response to a detection verification signal by at least one sensor unit.
In a further embodiment of the present invention, said image display device receives the informational message through a network connection with a remote network device.
In a further embodiment of the present invention, said image display device receives the informational message from a USB drive insertable to a USB port thereof.
In a further embodiment of the present invention, said automatic waking up procedure is initiatable in a timer-based triggering scheme.
In a further embodiment of the present invention, said automatic waking up procedure is initiatable upon interaction with the image display device.
In a further embodiment of the present invention, said image display device communicates with at least one sensor unit in the form of a built-in sensor unit.
In a further embodiment of the present invention, said image display device communicates with at least one remote sensor unit in the form of common network devices with said image display device.
In a further embodiment of the present invention, said at least one sensor unit is a motion sensor.
In a further embodiment of the present invention, said at least one sensor unit is a motion sensor or door sensor.
In a further embodiment of the present invention, a network-based system comprising an image display device and at least one remote sensor unit in the form of a motion sensor or a door sensor is proposed, said image display device being capable of establishing a remote network connection with remote network devices including said at least one remote sensor unit.
In a further embodiment of the present invention, said image display device of said network-based system receives an informational message and an electronic control unit of said image display device activates an automatic waking up procedure to display said informational message on a display unit of said image display device as a turning on screen.
In a further embodiment of the present invention, said image display device of said network-based system communicates with said at least one remote sensor unit to detect motion in a position relative to said image display device and the automatic waking up procedure to display said informational message on the display unit of said image display device is activated in response to a detection verification signal by at least one sensor unit.
The invention is therefore devised under the recognition that conveying of information to temporary users in a setup of multiple image display devices can be better managed and users can be offered a direct and timely but less intrusive communication messages in an automatic manner.
