Description
SEAT WITH UPHOLSTERY AND RELATED FASTENING SYSTEM
Description
The present invention relates to a seat equipped with an upholstery on the seat and on the backrest, in turn provided with a padding contained by the upholstery, which is of textile type or leather or natural or artificial tanned leather, and a related system for fastening the upholstery to the seat, in particular to the seat sustaining structure.
In the outfitting of transportation means such as aircrafts, buses, trains, etc., wherein a single class or in case a mixed class is provided, such as for example the Economy class in the airplanes for transporting passengers that is the Economy + Business mixed class, the related seats are equipped with upholsteries made of different materials and types upon indication of the instructing company, which define both the aesthetical and primary quality cut which the company wants to provide for the cabins and the class and the type of offered service.
This type of upholstery has to be integrated on the seats so as to guarantee sealing and duration thereof over time, but with costs compatible with the market needs. In order to fasten such upholsteries, in particular areas of the upholsteries and of the seat sustaining structure, the use of fastening devices is known comprising Velcro® or the like, sewn on the upholstery and glued to the seat structure in the two "male" and "female" variants thereof; furthermore, in order to guarantee a better sealing, metal staples and/or alternating systems (clips, etc.) are added.
The existing technique, even if it allows quick installation and removal of the upholsteries, has a series of disadvantages listed herebelow. First of all, two different types of Velcro® are required to be installed both on the upholstery and on the structure, with different fastening techniques, by complicating the whole installation process.
Moreover, the two portions of Velcro® cooperating
therebetween have to be both positioned correctly to guarantee the precise correspondence thereof.
After installation, the upholstery tensioning tends to decrease over time, due to an unavoidable deterioration of the mechanical properties of Velcro®, which then tends to come off, by producing problems of aesthetical and maintenance nature. It can also happen that the passengers could easily ruin the fastening by pulling the upholstery in a not suitable way.
The maintenance then is particularly complex, as it provides the removal of the Velcro® from the seat, the re-application thereof and a new installation of upholstery .
German patent application Nr. DE 10 2015 203910 Al describes a seat and an upholstery with related system for fastening the upholstery edge to the seat structure.
The technical problem underlying the present invention is to provide a seat with upholstery allowing to obviate the drawbacks mentioned with reference to the known art.
Such problem is solved by a seat with upholstery and related fastening system as defined in the enclosed claim 1, wherein the upholstery has a fastening edge, in the form of a laminar wall the distal end thereof is faced towards the rear direction and it implements a margin which surrounds the seat along the whole periphery thereof, and which comprises a flexible sealing element with a C-like section with one side inserted between the edge and the outer wall of the supporting structure and one side exposed outwardly therefrom a strap projects, thereon an upholstery margin is fastened.
The main advantage of the seat with upholstery according to the present invention lies in the fact of allowing a quick installation of the upholstery and an easy maintenance thereof in a subsequent moment.
The present invention will be described hereinafter according to a preferred embodiment example, provided by way of example and not with limitative purpose with reference to the enclosed drawings wherein:
* figure 1 shows a rear view of a seat with upholstery of an embodiment example according to the invention;
* figure 2 shows a plan section view of the seat of figure 1, taken along the plane B-B of figure 1;
* figure 3 shows an enlarged view of the section of figure 2, showing a detail of the upholstery fastening; and
* figure 4 shows a perspective view of a seat including an upholstery installed according to the present invention.
By referring to the figures, a seat 20 (figure 4) is represented implemented by a sustaining structure 1 which defines a seat including a backrest; figure 1 shows a backrest, but what is described can also relate indifferently to a seat.
The seat 20 comprises an upholstery 25 including a not represented padding; the upholstery extends from the peripheries of the sustaining structure and it is fastened thereto.
In details, the sustaining structure 1 of the seat 20 comprises a resting area 2 which is limited by a projecting rib 3 defining, on the rear face of the sustaining structure 1, a recess wherein a magazine- holding pocket and/or an object-holding pocket, a space for a foldable seatback table and the like, is obtained.
The rib 3 has an outer wall 4 which defines a periphery of the sustaining structure 1 which in turn comprises a connecting wall 5 and a fastening edge 6, in the form of a laminar wall the distal end thereof is faced towards the rear direction and it forms a margin surrounding the seat along the whole periphery thereof.
The whole sustaining structure 1 can be implemented as one single piece by moulding a composite material.
A flexible sealing element 8 with a C-like section is put, by mechanical forcing, on the distal end of the fastening edge, which element, with the portions which will be described hereinafter, implements a fastening
structure 7 for the upholstery 25.
The sealing element 8, for example, is made of vulcanized thermoplastic material, with suitable flame retardant properties as provided by current law. On the inner faces of the sealing element 8 (not shown) collapsible fastening teeth are provided, which prevent, by friction, the sealing element from leaving its fastening position, thus determining a unidirectional fastening.
Furthermore, the sealing element 8 comprises a metal web 10, formed by a C-like folded metal foil.
The sealing element 8 then has one side inserted between the edge 6 and the outer wall of the supporting structure 1 of the seat 20, and the other side exposed externally. From this latter side, a strap 9 projects from the sealing element 8, which strap is implemented in one single piece with the sealing element 8, but without the previously described metal core.
The margin 13 of the upholstery 25 is sewn on the strap 9, by means of a seam 14, thus implementing the system 7 for fastening the upholstery itself. However, it is meant that the fastening between margin of the upholstery and strap 9 could take place in different way, for example with hooks of mechanical type, Hook-and-loop systems and the like.
The seam type will be selected among the ones known in the state of the art and it could include a folded edge of the upholstery margin.
The exposed surface of the sealing element 8 will be provided with a knurling or embossing to make its appearance more nice-looking and natural.
Between the sealing element 8 and the rib 3 an elastic tubular gasket 15 could be included, to prevent that in the recess which is formed between these two portions objects could get jammed or dirt could accumulate.
The above-described fastening system is capable of satisfying several needs for the construction of upholstered seats; in particular it can optimize the quantity and type of raw material for the fastening, as
well as the production time for implementing and installing the upholstery and the maintenance processes.
Furthermore, the fastening system maximizes the overall aesthetical impact, by guaranteeing a suitable tensioning of the upholsteries lasting as much as possible, but also by making the used fastening solution nice-looking, which solution has optimum duration and reliability features.
To the above-described seat with upholstery a person skilled in the art, in order to satisfy additional and contingent needs, could introduce several additional modifications and variants, all however comprised in the protective scope of the present invention, as defined by the enclosed claims.
