The drilling also creates the circumferential clearance AC between the sectors.

- the minimum hole diameter required to separate the ring into sectors would be equal to the maximum thickness of the ring T 2 .
- the ring 502 can be divided without destroying the counter elements 503, 505. This may be particularly useful in embodiments where the counter elements are integrally formed with the drill components. Because the radial length of the release ring is reduced at the recessed portions, the drilling distance required to separate the segments is also reduced. Once the ring has been separated, the sectors of the release ring may be pushed inwards as described above with reference to Figure 1. As shown in Figure 5h, pilot holes 510 may be provided at the recessed portions to allow the positions of the recessed portions to be easily identified and drilled when the release assembly is in situ.

- a plurality of set screws 610 are provided in order to maintain a radial clearance AR between an inner circumference 611 of the release ring 602 and a component of the drill tool prior to deployment.
- the set screws 610 are removed or adjusted so that the sectors 602a, 602b, 602c, 602d of the release ring may be pushed inwards in order to create the axial clearance ⁇ .
- all of the components of the release assembly are reusable.
