Abstract
An Automotive Temperature and Pollutant Regulating Module ATPRM is a mechanical and electrical system used to cool down and filter exhaust gases emitted from automobiles. The system comprises two compact chambers which work in unison so as to provide desired results. The first chamber comprises a filtration system containing two removable filter cartridges. The second chamber comprises a cooling system in which a single turn helical pipe is used to cool down the processed exhaust gases by counter convection heat transfer and also by increasing the travel distance of the gases.
Description
AUTOMOTIVE TEMPERATURE AND POLLUTANT REGULATING
MODULE
Detailed description:
The device comprises of two separate chambers that are joined to function in unison. The frame of the device is rectangular in shape designed to fit inside the boot space of a car or similar vehicle.
The First chamber houses filtration system (3, 19). The working of the filtration system is as follows:
1) Polluted exhaust gases from the exhaust pipe (1,2,9,17,24) are redirected to enter the first chamber wherein the pollutant filters are placed.
2) Due to very small micron rating of the filters (12,13,14,18) which is fixed using a filter cap only depurated air is able to pass through the filter cylinders whereas the dust and pollutants remain trapped in between the filter pleats.
3) The filter after a certain amount of time is prone to cfog due to dust particles collection. The solution to this problem is a separate device provided with ATPRM in which the removable filter cartridge can be placed and cleaned via an automatic dust and pollutant cleaning system.
4) The first chamber is fitted with various differential pressure sensors that can detect when the filter needs to be cleaned and can inform the driver/owner by visual and audio signals on the instrument cluster or the dashboard of the car.
The Second chamber houses the cooling system. The working of the cooling system is as follows:
1) The processed gases enter the primary component of the cooling system i.e. the helical pipe via a connecting tube (4,6,20,21).
2) The helical pipe (7,8,15,16,25) is double layered single turn hollow structure in which the inner pipe is constructed using carbon fiber used as air transfer system. Due to significant increase in the travel
3) distance and time the pipe alone is capable of reducing the overall temperature of the system.
4) The outer helical pipe acts as an insulation and transfer system for the coolant flowing between the two pipes.
5) Through convection thermal energy is lost by the exhaust air and is gained by the coolant flowing in the outer tube via the carbon fiber tube (this process is accelerated due to the high thermal conductivity of carbon fiber).
6) The cooling system (5,10,11,22,23) comprises of several Peltier modules, temperature controller actuators used to cool the fluid and control its flow.
7) When the coolant comes in contact with a carbon fiber 2-tier
biscuit structure, the Peltier module reduces the temperature of the fluid by removing heat from the system. The heat removed is obtained on the other side of the Peltier module in the form of heat.
8) This heat is also gained by a fluid flowing in a separate insulated pipe which is later directed to a separate arrangement of Peltier modules.
9) The coolant after leaving the cooing setup enters the outer helical pipe white some remaining coolant is redirected to the same Peltier arrangement to which the fluid carrying heat was redirected.
10) This separate setup of Peltier modules is used to produce small amount of electricity through the principle of thermoelectric generators, therefore reducing operation cost of the complete system.

a) Noise reduction
b) Temperature reduction
2) Removable filter cartridge enclosed in a transparent box to check the amount of pollutant accumulation in filter.
3) A portable filter cleaning device fitted with dust and pollutant collection bags.
4) Use of two impellers in the system to balance out the amount and flow of gases entering and leaving the module.
5) Two insulated transparent boxes are used in the liquid cooling system
wherein the coolant flows in the first box (cooled through direct contact with peltier module) and second box is filled with liquid used to remove the heat from the system through the use of radiator and multiple heat sinks.
6) The heat from heat sinks in contact with hot side of peltier module is removed using liquid circulation instead of conventional cooling fan system.
7) Majority of heat rejected from the radiator is absorbed by multiple peltier modules which further convert heat energy into usable electricity .
