Description

[Corrected under Rule 26, 24.03.2016]LAUNDRY TREATMENT APPLIANCE WITH IMPROVED CORROSION PROTECTION AND SAFETY
The present invention relates to a laundry treatment appliance, in particular to a laundry washer, a laundry dryer or a laundry washer-and-dryer.
Laundry treatment appliances such as laundry washers, laundry dryers, and laundry washer-and-dryers are commonly known in the art. Several techniques have been devised for drying the wet laundry. The heat-pump type laundry dryers as well as the condenser type laundry dryers are also commonly known in the art. A laundry treatment appliance generally comprises: a cabinet which includes: a control panel for allowing the user to operate the laundry treatment appliance; a drum for receiving the laundry to be treated i.e., to be washed and/or dried; a driving unit for rotating the drum; and a sealing unit that seals the cabinet from the drum against the intrusion of the washing liquid and the hot humid air.
In the practice, the sealing unit does not perfectly seal the cabinet from the drum. Therefore, a part of the hot humid air inside the drum also leaks into the cabinet. Thus, a problem with the prior art laundry treatment appliance is that the hot humid air that leaks into the cabinet hits the relatively colder surfaces of the components inside the cabinet and condenses into liquid droplets. Such condensate adversely affects the life and the operation of the laundry treatment appliance. Moreover, the user satisfaction easily decreases.
WO2015078512 A1 discloses a laundry treatment appliance.
An objective of the present invention is to provide a laundry treatment appliance which overcomes the aforementioned problem of the prior art in a cost-effective way and which enables an improved life and operation.
This objective has been achieved by the laundry treatment appliance as defined in claim 1. Further achievements have been attained by the subject-matters respectively defined in the dependent claims.
In the laundry treatment appliance of the present invention comprises, the cabinet further includes an air circulation unit which comprises a fan that is disposed in close proximity to the control panel and adapted to circulate the air inside the cabinet.
A major advantageous effect of the present invention is that the air circulation unit prevents the condensate formation on the components inside the cabinet, in particular on the electrical and electronic devices, including the display, the light emitting diodes (LED), the rotary knob or the like. Thereby the risk to the safety of the user can be eliminated or reduced as much as possible. Thereby, also the visibility of the display and the LEDs can be improved. Another major advantageous effect of the present invention is that the metal components inside the cabinet can be prevented from corroding, and can be kept functioning for a longer time. Another major advantageous effect of the present invention is that the leakage of the condensate through the openings of the cabinet can be eliminated or reduced as much as possible. Thereby, the user satisfaction can be further increased.
In an embodiment, the fan is driven by a transmission mechanism which is directly coupled to the drum. This embodiment is particularly advantageous as the fan can be driven without an additional motor. Thereby, the number of parts can be reduced, and thus the production costs can also be reduced both in terms of material and labor.
In another embodiment, the shaft of the fan is rotated through a driving wheel which is resiliently pressed against the circumference of the drum. The driving wheel is set into rotation under the action of the frictional forces as the drum is rotated by the driving unit. This embodiment is particularly advantageous as the transmission mechanism, including the driving wheel is reliable and cost effective.
In another embodiment, the fan is provided as a radial fan. The blades of the radial fan may be curved or straight. These embodiments are particularly advantageous as the hot humid air that leaks into the cabinet can be quickly dispersed over a relatively wide area, and thus the condensate formation can be prevented even in case of a relatively high leakage rate. Alternatively, one or more axial fans can be used.
In other alternative embodiments, the laundry treatment appliance is respectively provided as a laundry washer, a laundry dryer, and a laundry washer-and-dryer.
Additional features and additional advantageous effects of the laundry treatment appliance of the present invention will become more apparent with the detailed description of the embodiments with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 – is a schematic partial perspective cutaway view of a laundry treatment appliance according to an embodiment of the present invention, wherein the sealing unit has been omitted for ease of illustration;
Figure 2 – is a schematic partial perspective enlarged view of the detail A in Fig. 1;
Figure 3 – is another schematic partial perspective cutaway view of a laundry treatment appliance according to an embodiment of the present invention, wherein the sealing unit has been omitted for ease of illustration; and

The laundry treatment appliance (1) comprises a cabinet (2) which includes: a control panel (3) for allowing the user to operate the laundry treatment appliance (1); a drum (4) for receiving the laundry to be treaded; a driving unit (not shown) for rotating the drum; and a sealing unit (not shown) for sealing the cabinet (2) from the drum (4) against the intrusion of the washing liquid and the hot humid air (Fig. 1 and Fig. 2).
In the laundry treatment appliance (1) of the present invention, the cabinet (2) further includes an air circulation unit (5) which comprises a fan (6) that is disposed in close proximity to the control panel (3) and adapted to circulate the air inside the cabinet (2) (Fig. 2 and Fig. 4).
In an embodiment, the air circulation unit (5) includes a transmission mechanism (7) that is directly coupled to the drum (4) and adapted to drive the fan (6) of the air circulation unit (5) (Fig. 2 and Fig. 4).
In another embodiment, the transmission mechanism (7) includes a driving wheel (8) which is resiliently pressed against the circumference of the drum (4), wherein the driving wheel (8) is linked to the shaft (9) of the fan (6). In this embodiment, the driving wheel (8) is set into rotation under the action of the frictional forces as the drum (4) is rotated by the driving unit. Thereby, the driving wheel (8) rotates the shaft (9) of the fan (6) and the air inside the cabinet (2) is circulated (Fig. 2 and Fig. 4).
In another embodiment, the driving wheel (8) is resiliently pressed against the circumference of the drum (4) through a spring-loaded arm (10) which is at one of its ends pivotably hinged to the main body (11) of the laundry treatment appliance (1) and at its other end rotatably coupled to the shaft (9) of the fan (6). The spring-loaded arm (10) compensates for the relative movement of the drum (4) (Fig. 2).
A major advantageous effect of the present invention is that the air circulation unit (5) prevents the condensate formation on the components inside the cabinet (2), in particular on the electrical and electronic devices, including the display (3a), the light emitting diodes (3b) (LED), the rotary knob (3c) or the like (Fig. 1).
