Abstract
Ventler is a single-unit ventilated cook-top that comes incorporated with air filtration technologies, namely Flame-Impeding Stainless Steel Honeycomb Filters, Electrostatic Precipitation (ESP), Ultraviolet C (UVC), and Activated Carbon, to clean and treat cooking fumes before releasing them into the same environment. Its design incorporates the kitchen hood onto the cook-top, and its air recirculation design aids the ventilation in the surroundings.
Description
VENTILATED COOK-TOP WITH INTEGRATED AIR FILTRATION TECHNOLOGIES
(VENTLER)
BACKGROUND
[0001] Exhaust devices, such as exhaust hoods and ventilated ceilings, are used to remove pollutants from occupied spaces, particularly in kitchens and cooking areas. Exhaust hoods remove pollutants by drawing them from a collection area near the source. Fume containment designs may be incorporated to mitigate the probability of fumes escaping from the collection area. Flame-impeding pre-filters can also be used at the exhaust hood to enhance fire safety.
[0002] Electrostatic Precipitation (ESP), Ultraviolet C (UVC) light, and Activated Carbon are existing air filtration technologies used in kitchen exhaust systems to clean and treat oil and grease particles, particulates, and odour generated from cooking. These technologies are in accordance with Singapore's National Environment Agency's Code of Practice on
Environmental Health (dated November 2013), under "Ventilation and Air Exhaust Systems" for Food and Beverages (F&B) establishments.
[0003] F&B establishments taking over spaces previously occupied by non-food
establishments are facing the problem of a lack of infrastructure support to construct an appropriate kitchen exhaust system. Vender, a stainless steel kitchen equipment, is thus designed to address this issue. Ventler is a standalone ventilated cook-top that has integrated air filtration technologies to clean and treat cooking fumes before releasing them into the same environment. Its dimensions are customisable, utilises a 13 Ampere household-grade power supply, and comes with heavy duty wheels for equipment mobility.
[0004] Ventler comprises 4 stages of air filtration, and an exhaust fan. Cooking fumes are drawn in via the surrounding flame-impeding stainless steel honeycomb filters, before being passed through ESP, UVC, and Activated Carbon respectively. The significantly cleaner air is then circulated back into the same environment via the front, acting as make-up air to the cooking surface. A piece of tempered glass is placed on top of Ventler to enhance fume containment.
SUMMARY
[0005] Ventler, a standalone equipment, serves as a cook-top that has integrated air filtration technologies to clean and treat generated cooking fumes. The significantly cleaner air is then circulated back into the same environment as make-up air for the cooking surface. The integrated cleaning technologies include Honeycomb Filters, ESP, UVC, and Activated Carbon. Air suction is provided by an exhaust fan which is also integrated into the unit.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DRAWINGS
[0006] The accompanied drawings, incorporated herein and constitute part of this
specification, illustrate exemplary embodiments of the invention, and, together with the general description given above and the detailed description given below, serve to explain the features of the invention.
[0007] Fig. 1 illustrates the exterior view of Ventler.
[0008] Fig. 2 illustrates the interior views of Ventler.
[0009] Fig. 3 illustrates the interior views of the duct design of Ventler.
DESCRIPTION OF EMBODIMENTS
[0010] Cooking fumes generated from the cooking area (between the tempered glass and table top surface) are sucked in via the flame-impeding stainless steel honeycomb filters, which meet AS 1530.1 standards. These honeycomb filters function as an oil and grease filter, and a flame barrier. Particulates measuring at least 8 microns are filtered by these filters.
[0011] Thereafter, the cooking fumes pass through an electrostatic air cleaner which uses ESP to charge particulates and collect them at its collection plates. Finer particulates (down to 0.01 micron), including oil and grease particles, are charged and collected at this stage.
[0012] After passing through the ESP, the odour in the cooking fumes is further mitigated by UVC, which produces ozone to treat odour.
[0013] Before the cleaned air circulates back into the environment, it passes through activated carbon filters which uses adsorption to entrap odour molecules - further mitigating the smell of the exhaust air. The exiting exhaust air from the activated carbon filters forms the make-up air for the cooking area. This keeps the entire system ventilated.
Claims
1. A self- ventilating cook-top comprising: incorporated air filtration technologies (namely Honeycomb Filters, ESP, UVC, Activated Carbon) and an exhaust fan housed within a single unit; wheels at the base and a piece of tempered glass, placed on the unit, covering the entire cooking area or part thereof;
U shape duct design for suction of cooking fumes at the cooking surface from 3 planes (back, left, right), with filters placed perpendicular to the cooking surface; exhaust outlet placed at the front of the equipment
