Abstract

A container including at least one partitioning device defining a plurality of chambers, and a spray actuator in fluid communication with at least one of the plurality of chambers for dispensing a liquid product contained therein.

Description

IMPROVEMENTS IN OR RELATING TO CONTAINERS
This invention relates to a container and particularly to a container for fragrances which are sprayed, the container including a plurality of chambers.
In the fragrance industry, many fragrances such as perfumes can be sprayed individually or in different combinations from single bottles.
According to the present invention, there is provided a container including at least one partitioning device defining a plurality of chambers, and a spray actuator in fluid communication with at least one of the plurality of chambers for dispensing a liquid product contained therein.
Owing to this aspect, either more than one fragrance can be individually sprayed from one container or fragrant liquids in the different chambers in the container can be allowed to mix when sprayed.
Advantageously, there are two chambers with two spray actuators, one for each chamber, so that different fragrances can be dispensed through the corresponding actuators. Alternatively, one spray actuator can be provided together with means for selecting the or each chamber from which the fragrance is to be dispensed.
In order that the present invention can be completely understood, reference will now be made, by way of example only, to the accompanying drawings, in which:-
Figure 1 shows a perspective view of a partitioned fragrance container, and Figure 2 shows schematically the spray mechanism for the fragrance container.
Referring to Figure 1 , a spherical container 2 comprises a partition dividing the internal volume of the container 2 into two substantially equal chambers 4 and 6 in which fragrant liquids, preferably different to each other, are stored. At the top of the container 2 there are first and second push-button type spray actuators 8 each having an outlet nozzle, one of the actuators 8 being associated with one of the chambers 4 or 6. Therefore a user of the container 2 can choose to use one or the other fragrance, and actuate the corresponding actuator 8 to dispense the selected fragrance. Alternatively, both actuators 8 can be operated simultaneously in order to spray both fragrances together so that they mix in the atmosphere to form a third unique fragrance. Instead of a separate spray actuator for each chamber, a single spray actuator could be provided with a switching mechanism to allow the chambers to connect and allow the two fragrances to spray through one actuator either individually or as a mixture of the two fragrances. Such a switching mechanism can be in the form of a selectable valve device located upstream of the outlet nozzle.
The partitioning of the container 2 can form multiple chambers each containing different fragrances in the one container. Corresponding multiple spray actuators could be provided or replaced by the single spray actuator with the switching mechanism connecting the multiple chambers within the container in order to be able to spray single fragrances, possibly simultaneously, or a variety of selectable mixtures.
The partitioning of the container 2 does not have to result in substantially equal chambers, but there could be chambers of differing internal volumes depending, for instance, upon the different fragrances to be stored therein.
Referring to Figure 2, the mechanism of forming the output mist of one or fragrances is preferably by way of the spray actuator 8 causing a jet of fluid, preferably air, to move along a conduit 9, in the form of, for example, a narrow tube, across a small opening 12 at the top end region of the or each chamber such that the increase in the speed of flow of the air in the conduit 9 causes a simultaneous decrease in the pressure and thus cause flow of the fragrant liquid contained from the chambers towards the outlet nozzle. Thus, for example, if the container 2 comprised three chambers 4, 6 and 10, each with its respective small opening 12 at the top end of each chamber it would be possible to cause, upon actuation of the spray actuator 8, a jet of air to flow across all three openings which would result in a mixture of the fragrances in each of the three chambers. Advantageously, the switching mechanism enables the opening and closing of the individual openings 12 in order to be able to select any desired combination of the fragrances in each of the three chambers 4, 6 and 10.
