Description
본 발명은 광 신호를 이용하여 대상물의 상태를 파악하기 위한 감지장치에 관한 것으로, 구체적으로는 기판과 커버기판 사이에 발광부 및 수광부를 구비한 감지장치에 있어, 상기 발광부에서 조사된 광 신호가 보다 효과적으로 수광부에 의해 감지될 수 있도록 상기 수광부를 커버기판 상에 밀착 형성시키고, 상기 수광부가 요철구조를 이루도록 형성시킴으로써 광 신호가 보다 효과적으로 감지될 수 있게 하며, 나아가 상기 발광부에서의 빛을 모아 대상물에 더 효과적으로 조사하기 위한 집광부를 포함함으로써 감도를 향상시키는 것을 특징으로 하는 감지장치에 관한 것이다.
스마트 단말기, 휴대폰, 모니터, TV 등 여러 전자 장치의 터치 패널에 사용하는 센서에는 여러 가지 종류가 있으며, 최근에는 빛을 발생하는 발광부와 빛을 감지하는 수광부를 포함하는 광센서를 이용하여 여러 기능을 구현하고 있다.
특히 포토다이오드의 경우, 빛에너지를 수신하면 이를 전기에너지로 변환하게 되어, 전기에너지를 빛에너지로 전환하는 발광다이오드와 반대의 기능을 수행한다. 포토다이오드는 응답속도가 빠르고, 감도 파장이 넓으며, 광전류의 직진성이 양호하다는 특징이 있어, 전자제품 소자에 폭넓게 사용하려는 연구가 꾸준하게 진행되고 있다.
그런데 종래 포토다이오드 및 발광다이오드의 경우, 벌크 형태로 기판 상에 형성하게 되며, 포토다이오드 또는 발광다이오드를 기판상에 실장(mounting)한 뒤 커버층을 조립하게 된다. 이 경우, 발광다이오드 또는 포토다이오드는 기판상에 형성되므로, 커버기판 위의 대상물과의 센싱 거리가 멀어, 발광다이오드의 강도(intensity) 및 포토다이오드의 감도(sensitivity)가 감소하였으며, 발광다이오드의 강도와 포토다이오드의 감도를 향상시키기 위하여 전력을 과도하게 사용하여야 하는 문제점이 존재하고 있었다.
본 발명은 상술한 바와 같이 기존의 포토다이오드 또는 발광다이오드가 기판 상에 위치함으로써 크로스토크(cross talk)가 많이 발생하는 문제점, 과도한 전력을 소모하게 되는 문제점을 해결하기 위한 것으로, 수광부를 커버기판 상에 직접 형성하여 센싱 거리를 짧게 함으로써 크로스토크를 줄이고, 결과적으로 신호 대비 잡음 비율을 개선시킨 감지장치를 제공하는 것을 목적으로 한다.
또한, 본 발명은 수광부의 광 감지도를 더 높이고자 수광부가 요철구조를 이루도록 형성시킴으로써 빛을 감지하는 영역, 즉 수광영역을 극대화 시켜 수신되는 빛을 더 효율적으로 감지할 수 있게 하는 것을 목적으로 한다.
또한, 본 발명은 발광부에 의해 출력된 빛을 모아 상기 커버기판 상의 대상물에 조사하는 집광부를 더 구비시켜 상기 대상물에 빛을 집중적으로 조사할 수 있게 하는 것을 목적으로 한다.

또한 상기 감지장치에 있어서 상기 발광부는, 발광 다이오드(LED), 유기 발광 다이오드(OLED), 적외선 발광 다이오드(Infrared Emitting Diode), 레이저 다이오드(Laser Diode) 중 적어도 어느 하나를 포함할 수 있다.
또한 상기 감지장치에 있어서 상기 수광부는, 광 다이오드(Photodiode), 광 전자 증배관, 광 트랜지스터(Phototransistor) 중 적어도 어느 하나를 포함할 수 있다.
한편, 본 발명의 또 다른 실시예에 따른 심박센서는 기판; 상기 기판 상에 형성되는 커버기판; 상기 기판 및 커버기판 사이의 공간에 구비되는 것으로서 빛을 조사하는 발광부; 상기 커버기판 상에 형성되고, 대상물에 의해 반사되는 광 신호를 수신하는 수광부; 및 상기 커버기판 상에 형성되고, 상기 발광부에 의해 출력된 빛을 모아 상기 커버기판 상면의 대상물에 조사하는 집광부;를 포함한다.
상기 심박센서에 있어서 상기 수광부는 요철구조를 더 포함할 수 있다.
종래의 포토다이오드 또는 발광다이오드가 기판 상에 위치함으로써 크로스토크가 많이 발생하는 문제, 과도한 전력을 소모하던 문제가 존재하였으나 본 발명에 따른 감지장치는 수광부를 커버기판 상에 직접 형성시켜 센싱 거리를 짧게 하고 이에 따라 발광부의 강도 및 수광부의 감도를 개선시킬 수 있는 효과가 있다.
또한 본 발명에 따른 감지장치는 수광부를 요철구조로 형성시킴으로써 빛을 수신하는 영역의 면적을 극대화 하여 빛을 효과적으로 수신할 수 있게 되는 효과가 있다.
또한 본 발명에 따른 감지장치는 집광부를 통해 발광부에 의해 출력된 빛을 하나로 모아 대상물에 조사할 수 있어 난반사에 의해 소모되는 빛을 최소화 할 수 있는 효과가 있다.
또한 본 발명에 따른 감지장치는, 종래의 센서와 동일한 구동전압으로 센싱 신호를 증가시킬 수 있으므로 낮은 구동전압만으로도 기존과 동일한 성능을 구현할 수 있게 되어 효율적인 감지장치를 구현할 수 있게 된다.
또한 본 발명에 따른 감지장치는, 커버기판 위의 손가락/손바닥/신체의 혈관에 의해 반사된 빛을 수광부가 센싱하여 심박을 측정하는 심박센서(PPG sensor; photo-plethysmography sensor)로도 응용될 수 있다.

또한, 어떤 구성요소들을 포함한다는 표현은 “개방형”의 표현으로서 해당 구성요소들이 존재하는 것을 단순히 지칭할 뿐이며, 추가적인 구성요소들을 배제하는 것으로 이해되어서는 안 된다.

또한 제1, 제2 등의 용어는 다양한 구성요소들을 설명하는데 사용될 수 있지만, 구성요소들은 상기 용어들에 의해 한정되어서는 아니되며, 상기 용어들은 하나의 구성요소를 다른 구성요소로부터 구별하는 목적으로만 사용된다.
도 1은 종래의 발광부와 수광부가 벌크 형태로 형성되는 감지장치를 나타낸 것이다.
도 1을 참조하면, 종래의 감지장치는 벌크 형태의 발광부와 수광부를 PCB 기판에 실장(mounting)한 뒤에 커버기판을 씌워 조립하는 형태로 구현되었다. 한편, 일반적으로 감지장치를 제조하는 공정상 PCB기판과 커버기판 사이에 공간이 발생하는데, 도 1에 나타난 것과 같이 발광부(130) 또는 수광부(140)와 커버기판(120) 사이의 간격(Air gap; 142)이 존재하게 된다. 그러나 이러한 간격은 발광부로부터 조사된 빛이 수광부에 이르기까지의 경로, 즉 센싱 거리의 증가로 이어져 감지장치의 정확도를 감소시킴과 동시에 감지장치의 구동 전력도 많이 소모하게 되는 문제점들을 야기한다.
특히, 발광부로부터 조사된 빛은 여러 경로를 통해 수광부에 도달할 수 있는데, 위와 같이 PCB 기판과 커버기판 사이에 간격이 존재하는 경우, 상기 커버기판 상에 반사된 빛이 수광부에 도달할 수도 있게 된다. 그러나 이러한 경로를 따라 수광부에 도달한 빛은 소위 크로스토크라 일컬어지는 잡음신호(도 1의 점선 화살표)에 해당하는 것으로, 대상물에 반사된 뒤 수광부에 도달한 빛과 달리 감지시 배제되어야 할 신호에 해당한다.
본 발명은 이와 같이 기판과 커버기판 사이 존재하는 간격에 의해 발생되는 크로스토크를 줄이기 위한 것으로서, 이하 도 2를 참조하여 상세히 살펴보기로 한다.
도 2는 본 발명의 일 실시예에 따른 감지장치를 나타내는 구성도이다.
도 2를 참조하면 본 발명에 따른 감지장치는, 기판(210), 커버기판(220), 발광부(230), 수광부(240)를 포함할 수 있다.
기판(210)은 종래에 벌크 형태의 발광부와 수광부를 실장하였으나, 본 발명에서의 기판(210)은 수광부가 커버기판 하면에 밀착하여 형성되므로, 수광부를 제외한 다른 반도체 부품들을 기판 상에 실장 할 수 있는 장점이 있다.
이 때, 수광부는 바람직하게는 커버 기판에 밀착하여 형성될 수 있으며, 그 중에서도 특히 커버기판의 상면 또는 하면에 밀착하여 형성될 수 있다.
이 때, 기판(210)은 배선을 변경할 수 있는 전기 회로가 편성되어 있는 판으로, 절연기판 표면에 도체 패턴을 형성할 수 있는 절연 재료로 만들어진, 프린트, 배선판 및 절연기판을 모두 포함할 수 있다.
상기 기판은 리지드(rigid)하거나 또는 플렉서블(flexible)할 수 있다. 예를 들어, 상기 기판은 유리 또는 플라스틱을 포함할 수 있다. 자세하게, 상기 기판은 소다라임유리(soda lime glass) 또는 알루미노실리케이트유리 등의 화학 강화/반강화유리를 포함하거나, 폴리이미드(Polyimide, PI), 폴리에틸렌 테레프탈레이트(polyethylene terephthalate, PET), 프로필렌 글리콜(propylene glycol, PPG) 폴리 카보네이트(PC) 등의 강화 혹은 연성 플라스틱을 포함하거나 사파이어를 포함할 수 있다.
또한, 상기 기판은 광등방성 필름을 포함할 수 있다. 일례로, 상기 기판(210)은 COC(Cyclic Olefin Copolymer), COP(Cyclic Olefin Polymer), 광등방 폴리카보네이트(polycarbonate, PC) 또는 광등방 폴리메틸메타크릴레이트(PMMA) 등을 포함할 수 있다.
사파이어는 유전율 등 전기 특성이 매우 뛰어나 터치 반응 속도를 획기적으로 올릴수 있을 뿐 아니라 호버링(Hovering) 등 공간 터치를 쉽게 구현 할 수 있고 표면 강도가 높아 커버 기판으로도 적용 가능한 물질이다. 여기서, 호버링이란 디스플레이에서 약간 떨어진 거리에서도 좌표를 인식하는 기술을 의미한다.
또한, 상기 기판(210)은 부분적으로 곡면을 가지면서 휘어질 수 있다. 즉, 기판은 부분적으로는 평면을 가지고, 부분적으로는 곡면을 가지면서 휘어질 수 있다. 자세하게, 상기 기판(210)의 끝단이 곡면을 가지면서 휘어지거나 Random한 곡률을 포함한 표면을 가지며 휘어지거나 구부러질 수 있다.
또한, 상기 기판은 유연한 특성을 가지는 플렉서블(flexible) 기판일 수 있다.
또한, 상기 기판은 커브드(curved) 또는 벤디드(bended) 기판일 수 있다. 즉, 상기 기판을 포함하는 터치 윈도우도 플렉서블, 커브드 또는 벤디드 특성을 가지도록 형성될 수 있다. 이로 인해, 실시예에 따른 터치 윈도우는 휴대가 용이하며, 다양한 디자인으로 변경이 가능할 수 있다.
바람직한 실시예로서, 본 발명의 기판은 PCB(인쇄 회로 기판; printed circuit board) 또는 세라믹 기판으로 이루어질 수 있다.
이 때, PCB 기판은 회로 설계를 근거로 회로부품을 접속하는 전기배선을 배선 도형으로 표현하며, 절연물 상에 전기도체를 재현할 수 있다. 또한 전기부품을 탑재하고 이들을 회로적으로 연결하는 배선을 형성할 수 있으며, 부품의 전기적 연결기능 외의 부품들을 기계적으로 고정시켜줄 수 있다.
커버기판(220)은 기판 상에 형성되며, 사용자의 터치 신호 또는 심박 신호 등 여러 입력 신호들을 입력받을 수 있다. 이러한 커버기판(220)은 기판(210) 상에 바로 형성될 수도 있으나, 기판(210) 상에 형성되는 별도의 격벽(250)에 의해 지지되어 고정될 수도 있다. 이 때, 격벽(250)은 본질적으로 발광부(230)에 의해 조사되는 빛이 곧장 수광부로(240)로 도달하는 것을 차단하기 위한 것이나, 또 다른 용도로서 격벽(250)은 상기 기판과 상기 커버기판 사이에 위치하여 상기 발광부 또는 상기 수광부가 배치될 수 있는 공간을 형성할 수도 있다.
도 2와 도 3은 격벽의 형성 모양에 따라 구별되는 감지장치의 모습을 도시한 것이다. 도 2는 기판(210) 상에 격벽이 일정 간격을 두어 형성되고, 상기 격벽(250)과 커버기판(220) 사이에 수광부(240)가 밀착되어 형성된 모습을 나타낸 것이다. 또한 도 3은 기판(210) 상에 격벽이 일정 간격을 두어 형성되되, 상기 수광부(240)는 격벽(250)과 접하지 않은 채 커버기판(220)에만 접하도록 형성된 모습을 나타낸 것이다. 이렇듯 격벽(250)은 본질적으로 발광부(230)로부터 조사되는 빛이 직접 수광부(240)로 입사되는 것을 방지하는 역할 및 상기 기판(210)과 커버기판(220) 사이를 지지하는 역할을 하며, 그 형성 구조에 따라 다양한 구조의 감지장치가 구현될 수 있음을 이해해야 할 것이다. 한편, 도 3에 따른 구조의 경우 격벽(250)과 커버기판(220) 사이에 더미(270)가 더 형성될 수 있다.
한편 발광부(230)는 기본적으로 모든 방향으로 빛을 조사하는 기능을 하며, 이렇게 조사된 빛은 커버기판 상에 존재하는 대상물에 의해 반사된다. 이 때, 발광부는 발광 다이오드(LED), 유기 발광 다이오드(OLED), 적외선 발광 다이오드(Infrared Emitting Diode), 레이저 다이오드(Laser Diode) 중 적어도 하나를 포함하는 것을 특징으로 한다.
또한, 발광부(230)는 감지장치가 포함하는 전자 장치로부터 전력을 공급받아, 받은 에너지를 특정 파장의 빛으로 방출하며, 나아가 상기 발광부(230)는 조사하는 광 신호의 파장을 필요에 따라 변경하기 위하여 다양한 재료를 사용할 수 있다.
수광부(240)는 발광부(230)가 조사하는 광 신호가 상기 커버기판(220) 상의 대상물에 흡수 또는 반사되는 경우, 상기 흡수 또는 반사된 광 신호를 수신하고 광전류 신호를 생성한다. 이 때, 수광부(240)는 광 다이오드(Photodiode), 광 전자 증배관, 광 트랜지스터(Phototransistor) 중 적어도 하나로 구현된다.
특히, 수광부(240)는 광 다이오드(Photodiode)로 이루어지는 것이 바람직하다. 광 다이오드는 PN 또는 PIN 구조로 이루어져 있으며, 충분한 에너지의 빛이 다이오드를 타격하면, 이동전자와 양의 전하 정공이 생겨 전자가 활동하게 된다.
이 때, PN구조의 경우 p-n접합으로 구성되며, 적당한 주파수의 전자 방사에 노출되면 광전도성의 결과로 과잉 전하 반송파가 생성되며, 반송파는 p-n접합을 건너감으로써 광전류를 생성하게 된다. 또한, PIN구조의 경우, p영역과 n영역 사이에 진성(i형) 반도체의 층을 접합시킨 구조이며, i영역의 두께를 조절하여 최적의 주파수 반응 특성을 가지는 소자를 제작할 수 있다.
본 발명의 수광부(240)는, 커버기판 상에 밀착하여 형성되는 것을 특징으로 한다. 이 때, 수광부(240)는 박막 형태로 커버기판 상에 밀착하여 형성될 수 있다. 수광부(240)가 커버기판(220)의 하면에 형성되는 일 실시예로서, 상기 수광부(240)는 페이스트 상태의 물질을 소성 공정에 의해 소결시키는 방식으로 커버기판(220)의 하면에 형성시킬 수 있다.
더 구체적으로, 상기 수광부는 진공증착법, CVD, 인쇄공법 중 적어도 하나의 방법을 이용하여 상기 커버기판 상에 밀착하여 형성될 수 있다. 이와 같이 진공 증착이나 패터닝 등을 이용하여 커버기판 상에 매우 얇은 피박인 박막을 형성하는 경우 커버기판과 기판 사이의 간격을 최소화할 수 있으며 센서를 포함하는 전자 장치 자체의 두께를 얇게 하며 무게를 가볍게 만들 수 있는 장점이 있다.
수광부(240)가 커버기판(220)의 하면에 밀착하여 형성되는 경우, 종래의 센서(도 1 참조)와 다르게 커버기판 위의 대상물과의 센싱 거리(도 2 참조)가 가까워지므로, 수광부(240)의 감도(sensitivity)가 증가할 수 있다. 또한, 종래의 감지장치와 동일한 구동전압으로 감지 효율을 높일 수 있으므로 낮은 구동전압으로 기존과 동일한 성능을 구현할 수 있게 되는 효과가 있다.
한편, 본 발명에 따른 수광부(240)는 도 2 또는 도 3에서도 볼 수 있듯 전체 또는 일부 영역이 요철구조(A 참조)로 이루어질 수 있다.
요철구조란 오목구조와 볼록구조가 반복적으로 나타나는 구조를 통칭하는 것으로, 상기 수광부(240)는 복수의 마루 및 골을 포함하는 요철구조로 형성될 수 있다. 이렇듯 수광부(240)를 요철구조로 형성하는 경우 빛을 수신하는 영역, 즉 수광영역의 면적을 극대화 할 수 있어 감도를 높일 수 있는 효과가 있다. 예를 들어 도 2의 수광부(240)가 단순 평면구조인 경우를 가정해 볼 때, 평면구조의 수광영역에 비해 요철구조의 수광영역 면적이 더 넓음은 자명하며, 나아가 상기 커버기판(220) 상 대상물에 반사된 빛의 입사각이 수직이거나 수직에 가까울 가능성이 높아지는 등 반사광을 더 효율적으로 수신할 수 있다.
도 4는 상기 수광부(240)의 요철구조 및 이에 접해 있는 커버기판(220)의 모습을 확대하여 도시한 것이다.
도 4에 따르면 수광부(240)는 마루 및 골을 포함하는 요철구조로 형성될 수 있는데, 이 때 상기 요철구조는 수광부가 빛을 수신하는 전체영역 또는 일부영역에 형성될 수 있다.
또한, 상기 수광부(240)와 접하는 커버기판(220) 역시 수광부(240)의 요철구조와 상응하도록 요철구조로 형성될 수 있다.
상기 요철구조는 바람직하게는 마루 또는 골의 높이가 5um 내지 50um 가 되도록 형성될 수 있으며, 나아가 상기 마루 또는 골이 5um 내지 50um 간격으로 반복적으로 나타나도록 형성될 수도 있다.
한편, 상기 수광부(240)는 다음과 같은 공정과정을 거쳐 커버기판(220)상에 형성될 수 있다.
첫 번째로, 상기 커버기판(220)의 일부 영역에 요철구조를 형성시킨다. 이 때 글래스 포밍(Glass Forming) 공법이 활용될 수 있다. 두 번째로, 상기 요철구조가 형성된 커버기판(220) 상에 박막의 수광부(240)를 증착시킨다. 증착 방법은 앞서 언급한 것과 같이 진공증착법, CVD, 인쇄공법 등의 다양한 공법이 활용될 수 있으나 바람직하게는 진공증착법을 활용한다. 한편, 증착 이후 에칭 및 패터닝 과정, 그리고 재차 증착하는 등의 과정을 거쳐 최종적으로 요철구조의 수광부(240) 및 이에 접해 있는 커버기판(220)을 완성하게 된다.
한편, 상기 수광부(240)는 제1 전극(241), P층(242), 실리콘층(243), N층(244), 제2 전극(245)을 포함할 수 있다. 이 때, 상기 제1 전극, 상기 P층, 상기 실리콘층, 상기 N층, 상기 제2 전극은 도 5와 같이 상기 커버기판 하면에 평행하게 적층되어 형성되거나, 도 6과 같이 상기 커버기판 하면에 수직으로 적층되어 형성될 수 있다.
상기 제 1 전극(241) 및 상기 제 2 전극(245) 중 적어도 하나의 감지 전극은 광의 투과를 방해하지 않으면서 전기가 흐를 수 있도록 투명 전도성 물질을 포함할 수 있다, 일례로, 상기 전극(241, 245)은 인듐 주석 산화물(indium tin oxide), 인듐 아연 산화물(indium zinc oxide), 구리 산화물(copper oxide), 주석 산화물(tin oxide), 아연 산화물(zinc oxide), 티타늄 산화물(titanium oxide) 등의 금속 산화물을 포함할 수 있다.
또는, 상기 제 1 전극(241) 및 상기 제 2 전극(245) 중 적어도 하나의 감지 전극은 나노와이어, 감광성 나노와이어 필름, 탄소나노튜브(CNT), 그래핀(graphene) 또는 전도성 폴리머를 포함할 수 있다.
또는, 상기 제 1 전극(241) 및 상기 제 2 전극(245) 중 적어도 하나의 감지 전극은 다양한 금속을 포함할 수 있다. 예를 들어, 상기 전극(241, 245)은 크롬(Cr), 니켈(Ni), 구리(Cu), 알루미늄(Al), 은(Ag), 몰리브덴(Mo). 금(Au), 티타튬(Ti) 및 이들의 합금 중 적어도 하나의 금속을 포함할 수 있다. 또한, 상기 감지전극 물질들을 혼합하여 사용할 수 있다.
한편, 앞서 설명한 구성 이외에, 본 발명에 따른 감지장치는 제어부를 더 포함할 수 있는데, 제어부는 수광부(240)가 생성한 광전류 신호를 수신하여, 기 설정된 조건에 따라 광전류 신호를 분석할 수 있다. 이 때, 제어부는 센서를 포함하는 전자 장치의 목적 및 사용 방법에 따라서 광전류 신호를 용도에 맞는 적절한 분석을 수행할 수 있다.
예를 들어, 발광부와 수광부를 포함하는 센서가 심박 센서인 경우, 발광부가 조사한 광 신호가 커버기판 상에 위치하는 손가락/손목/팔목에서 흡수/반사되면, 흡수/반사된 광 신호를 수광부가 수신하여 수신한 광 신호의 세기에 따라서 광 전류를 발생하게 된다. 이 때, 심박 신호 센싱의 경우 발생된 광 전류 신호가 맥박에 따라서 강/약을 반복하게 되므로, 제어부는 광전류 신호의 강약 주기에 따라서 맥박을 측정할 수 있다.
이러한 제어부는 바람직하게는 상기 기판(210)에 구비된 집적회로(ASIC. Application Specific Integrated Circuit)의 형태로 구현될 수 있다.
한편, 본 발명은 저전력소모 심박(PPG) 센서에도 적용될 수 있는데, 저전력소모 심박 센서는 기판, 상기 기판 상에 형성되는 커버기판, 상기 커버기판에 광 신호를 조사하는 발광부, 상기 발광부가 조사하는 광 신호가 상기 커버기판 위의 대상물에 흡수 또는 반사되는 경우, 상기 흡수 또는 반사된 광 신호를 수신하고 광전류 신호를 생성하는 수광부를 포함하고, 상기 발광부 또는 상기 수광부는 상기 커버기판 상에 밀착하여 형성되는 것을 특징으로 한다.

특히, 발광부로부터 조사된 빛은 여러 경로를 통해 수광부에 도달할 수 있는데, 위와 같이 PCB 기판과 커버기판 사이에 간격이 존재하는 경우, 상기 커버기판 상에 반사된 빛이 수광부에 도달할 수도 있게 된다. 그러나 이러한 경로를 따라 수광부에 도달한 빛은 소위 크로스토크라 일컬어지는 잡음신호(도 1의 점선 화살표)에 해당하는 것으로, 대상물에 반사된 뒤 수광부에 도달한 빛과 달리 감지시 배제되어야 할 신호에 해당한다.
본 발명은 이와 같이 기판과 커버기판 사이 존재하는 간격에 의해 발생되는 크로스토크를 줄이기 위함과 동시에 전력 효율을 극대화 하기 위한 것으로서, 이하 도 7을 참조하여 상세히 살펴보기로 한다.
도 7은 본 발명의 일 실시예에 따른 감지장치를 나타내는 구성도이다.
도 7을 참조하면 본 발명에 따른 감지장치는, 기판(210), 커버기판(220), 발광부(230), 수광부(240), 격벽(250), 집광부(260)를 포함할 수 있다.
기판(210)은 종래에 벌크 형태의 발광부와 수광부를 실장하였으나, 본 발명에서의 기판(210)은 수광부가 커버기판 하면에 밀착하여 형성되므로, 수광부를 제외한 다른 반도체 부품들을 기판 상에 실장 할 수 있는 장점이 있다.
이 때, 수광부는 바람직하게는 커버 기판에 밀착하여 형성될 수 있으며, 그 중에서도 특히 커버기판의 상면 또는 하면에 밀착하여 형성될 수 있다.
이 때, 기판(210)은 배선을 변경할 수 있는 전기 회로가 편성되어 있는 판으로, 절연기판 표면에 도체 패턴을 형성할 수 있는 절연 재료로 만들어진, 프린트, 배선판 및 절연기판을 모두 포함할 수 있다.
상기 기판은 리지드(rigid)하거나 또는 플렉서블(flexible)할 수 있다. 예를 들어, 상기 기판은 유리 또는 플라스틱을 포함할 수 있다. 자세하게, 상기 기판은 소다라임유리(soda lime glass) 또는 알루미노실리케이트유리 등의 화학 강화/반강화유리를 포함하거나, 폴리이미드(Polyimide, PI), 폴리에틸렌 테레프탈레이트(polyethylene terephthalate, PET), 프로필렌 글리콜(propylene glycol, PPG) 폴리 카보네이트(PC) 등의 강화 혹은 연성 플라스틱을 포함하거나 사파이어를 포함할 수 있다.
또한, 상기 기판은 광등방성 필름을 포함할 수 있다. 일례로, 상기 기판(210)은 COC(Cyclic Olefin Copolymer), COP(Cyclic Olefin Polymer), 광등방 폴리카보네이트(polycarbonate, PC) 또는 광등방 폴리메틸메타크릴레이트(PMMA) 등을 포함할 수 있다.
사파이어는 유전율 등 전기 특성이 매우 뛰어나 터치 반응 속도를 획기적으로 올릴수 있을 뿐 아니라 호버링(Hovering) 등 공간 터치를 쉽게 구현 할 수 있고 표면 강도가 높아 커버 기판으로도 적용 가능한 물질이다. 여기서, 호버링이란 디스플레이에서 약간 떨어진 거리에서도 좌표를 인식하는 기술을 의미한다.
또한, 상기 기판(210)은 부분적으로 곡면을 가지면서 휘어질 수 있다. 즉, 기판은 부분적으로는 평면을 가지고, 부분적으로는 곡면을 가지면서 휘어질 수 있다. 자세하게, 상기 기판(210)의 끝단이 곡면을 가지면서 휘어지거나 Random한 곡률을 포함한 표면을 가지며 휘어지거나 구부러질 수 있다.
또한, 상기 기판은 유연한 특성을 가지는 플렉서블(flexible) 기판일 수 있다.
또한, 상기 기판은 커브드(curved) 또는 벤디드(bended) 기판일 수 있다. 즉, 상기 기판을 포함하는 터치 윈도우도 플렉서블, 커브드 또는 벤디드 특성을 가지도록 형성될 수 있다. 이로 인해, 실시예에 따른 터치 윈도우는 휴대가 용이하며, 다양한 디자인으로 변경이 가능할 수 있다.
바람직한 실시예로서, 본 발명의 기판은 PCB(인쇄 회로 기판; printed circuit board) 또는 세라믹 기판으로 이루어질 수 있다.
이 때, PCB 기판은 회로 설계를 근거로 회로부품을 접속하는 전기배선을 배선 도형으로 표현하며, 절연물 상에 전기도체를 재현할 수 있다. 또한 전기부품을 탑재하고 이들을 회로적으로 연결하는 배선을 형성할 수 있으며, 부품의 전기적 연결기능 외의 부품들을 기계적으로 고정시켜줄 수 있다.
커버기판(220)은 기판 상에 형성되며, 사용자의 터치 신호 또는 심박 신호 등 여러 입력 신호들을 입력받을 수 있다. 이러한 커버기판(220)은 기판(210) 상에 바로 형성될 수도 있으나, 기판(210) 상에 형성되는 별도의 격벽(250)에 의해 지지되어 고정될 수도 있다. 이 때, 격벽(250)은 본질적으로 발광부(230)에 의해 조사되는 빛이 곧장 수광부로(240)로 도달하는 것을 차단하기 위한 것이나, 또 다른 용도로서 격벽(250)은 상기 기판과 상기 커버기판 사이에 위치하여 상기 발광부 또는 상기 수광부가 배치될 수 있는 공간을 형성할 수도 있다.
도 7와 도 8은 격벽의 형성 모양에 따라 구별되는 감지장치의 모습을 도시한 것이다. 도 7은 기판(210) 상에 격벽이 일정 간격을 두어 형성되고, 상기 격벽(250)과 커버기판(220) 사이에 수광부(240)가 밀착되어 형성된 모습을 나타낸 것이다. 또한 도 8은 기판(210) 상에 격벽이 일정 간격을 두어 형성되되, 상기 수광부(240)는 격벽(250)과 접하지 않은 채 커버기판(220)에만 접하도록 형성된 모습을 나타낸 것이다. 이렇듯 격벽(250)은 본질적으로 발광부(230)로부터 조사되는 빛이 직접 수광부(240)로 입사되는 것을 방지하는 역할 및 상기 기판(210)과 커버기판(220) 사이를 지지하는 역할을 하며, 그 형성 구조에 따라 다양한 구조의 감지장치가 구현될 수 있음을 이해해야 할 것이다. 한편, 도 8에 따른 구조의 경우 격벽(250)과 커버기판(220) 사이에 더미(270)가 더 형성될 수 있다.
한편 발광부(230)는 기본적으로 모든 방향으로 빛을 조사하는 기능을 하며, 이렇게 조사된 빛은 커버기판 상에 존재하는 대상물에 의해 반사된다. 이 때, 발광부는 발광 다이오드(LED), 유기 발광 다이오드(OLED), 적외선 발광 다이오드(Infrared Emitting Diode), 레이저 다이오드(Laser Diode) 중 적어도 하나를 포함하는 것을 특징으로 한다.
또한, 발광부(230)는 감지장치가 포함하는 전자 장치로부터 전력을 공급받아, 받은 에너지를 특정 파장의 빛으로 방출하며, 나아가 상기 발광부(230)는 조사하는 광 신호의 파장을 필요에 따라 변경하기 위하여 다양한 재료를 사용할 수 있다.
한편, 본 발명에 따른 감지장치는 상기 발광부(230)에 의해 출력되는 빛을 모아 커버기판 상에 존재하는 대상물에 조사하는 집광부(260)를 더 포함할 수 있다.
도 9는 도 7 또는 도 8에 표시된 집광부(260)를 확대하여 나타낸 것이다.
집광부(260)는 상기 커버기판(220)의 일면에 형성될 수 있으며, 바람직하게는 도 7 또는 도 8에서 보이는 것과 같이 발광부(230)와 마주보는 커버기판(220)의 하면에 형성될 수 있다.
또한 상기 집광부(260)는 발광부(230)에 의해 출력, 조사되는 빛을 모을 수 있는 구조물로 구현될 것을 요하는데, 예를 들어 도 9에서와 같이 하나 또는 복수개의 마이크로 렌즈를 활용하여 집광부(260)를 구현할 수 있다.
이 때 상기 마이크로 렌즈는 약 10um 내지 80um 의 높이로 형성될 수 있으며, 또한 상기 마이크로 렌즈의 직경은 약 10um 내지 80um가 되도록 형성될 수 있다.
한편, 상기 집광부(260)는 기본적으로는 발광부(230)에 의해 출력된 빛을 한 군데로 집중시켜 조사하는 역할을 하나, 동시에 격벽에 의해 난반사된 빛들도 한 군데로 집중시키는 역할을 하기도 한다. 도 7 또는 도 8에서 볼 수 있듯 발광부(230)와 커버기판(220) 사이에는 격벽에 의해 일정 부피의 공간이 존재하게 되는데, 이러한 격벽 및 공간에 의해 발광부(230)에 의해 출력된 빛은 난반사로 소모되는 문제가 있었다. 즉, 난반사된 빛은 커버기판(220) 상의 대상물에 곧바로 조사되지 못하여 단순 전력 소모로 이어지는 문제가 있었다. 그러나 상기 집광부(260)를 활용하는 경우 위와 같이 난반사된 빛까지도 한 군데로 집중시켜 대상물에 조사할 수 있으므로 전력 소모를 최소화 할 수 있음은 물론 대상물에 더 많은 양의 빛을 집중적으로 조사할 수 있어 궁극적으로 수광부(240)에서의 감지 감도도 향상시킬 수 있는 효과도 꾀할 수 있다.
한편, 수광부(240)는 발광부(230)가 조사하는 빛이 상기 커버기판(220) 상의 대상물에 흡수 또는 반사되는 경우, 상기 흡수 또는 반사된 광 신호를 수신하고 광전류 신호를 생성한다. 이 때, 수광부(240)는 광 다이오드(Photodiode), 광 전자 증배관, 광 트랜지스터(Phototransistor) 중 적어도 하나로 구현된다.
특히, 수광부(240)는 광 다이오드(Photodiode)로 이루어지는 것이 바람직하다. 광 다이오드는 PN 또는 PIN 구조로 이루어져 있으며, 충분한 에너지의 빛이 다이오드를 타격하면, 이동전자와 양의 전하 정공이 생겨 전자가 활동하게 된다.
이 때, PN구조의 경우 p-n접합으로 구성되며, 적당한 주파수의 전자 방사에 노출되면 광전도성의 결과로 과잉 전하 반송파가 생성되며, 반송파는 p-n접합을 건너감으로써 광전류를 생성하게 된다. 또한, PIN구조의 경우, p영역과 n영역 사이에 진성(i형) 반도체의 층을 접합시킨 구조이며, i영역의 두께를 조절하여 최적의 주파수 반응 특성을 가지는 소자를 제작할 수 있다.
본 발명의 수광부(240)는, 커버기판 상에 밀착하여 형성되는 것을 특징으로 한다. 이 때, 수광부(240)는 박막 형태로 커버기판 상에 밀착하여 형성될 수 있다. 수광부(240)가 커버기판(220)의 하면에 형성되는 일 실시예로서, 상기 수광부(240)는 페이스트 상태의 물질을 소성 공정에 의해 소결시키는 방식으로 커버기판(220)의 하면에 형성시킬 수 있다.
더 구체적으로, 상기 수광부는 진공증착법, CVD, 인쇄공법 중 적어도 하나의 방법을 이용하여 상기 커버기판 상에 밀착하여 형성될 수 있다. 이와 같이 진공 증착이나 패터닝 등을 이용하여 커버기판 상에 매우 얇은 피박인 박막을 형성하는 경우 커버기판과 기판 사이의 간격을 최소화할 수 있으며 센서를 포함하는 전자 장치 자체의 두께를 얇게 하며 무게를 가볍게 만들 수 있는 장점이 있다.
수광부(240)가 커버기판(220)의 하면에 밀착하여 형성되는 경우, 종래의 센서(도 1 참조)와 다르게 커버기판 위의 대상물과의 센싱 거리(도 7 참조)가 가까워지므로, 수광부(240)의 감도(sensitivity)가 증가할 수 있다. 또한, 종래의 감지장치와 동일한 구동전압으로 감지 효율을 높일 수 있으므로 낮은 구동전압으로 기존과 동일한 성능을 구현할 수 있게 되는 효과가 있다.
한편, 본 발명에 따른 수광부(240)는 도 7 또는 도 8에서도 볼 수 있듯 전체 또는 일부 영역이 요철구조(A)로 이루어질 수 있다.
요철구조란 오목구조와 볼록구조가 반복적으로 나타나는 구조를 통칭하는 것으로, 상기 수광부(240)는 복수의 마루 및 골을 포함하는 요철구조로 형성될 수 있다. 이렇듯 수광부(240)를 요철구조로 형성하는 경우 빛을 수신하는 영역, 즉 수광영역의 면적을 극대화 할 수 있어 감도를 높일 수 있는 효과가 있다. 예를 들어 도 7의 수광부(240)가 단순 평면구조인 경우를 가정해 볼 때, 평면구조의 수광영역에 비해 요철구조의 수광영역 면적이 더 넓음은 자명하며, 나아가 상기 커버기판(220) 상 대상물에 반사된 빛의 입사각이 수직이거나 수직에 가까울 가능성이 높아지는 등 반사광을 더 효율적으로 수신할 수 있다.
도 4는 상기 수광부(240)의 요철구조 및 이에 접해 있는 커버기판(220)의 모습을 확대하여 도시한 것이다.
도 4에 따르면 수광부(240)는 마루 및 골을 포함하는 요철구조로 형성될 수 있는데, 이 때 상기 요철구조는 수광부가 빛을 수신하는 전체영역 또는 일부영역에 형성될 수 있다.
또한, 상기 수광부(240)와 접하는 커버기판(220) 역시 수광부(240)의 요철구조와 상응하도록 요철구조로 형성될 수 있다.
상기 요철구조는 바람직하게는 마루 또는 골의 높이가 5um 내지 50um 가 되도록 형성될 수 있으며, 나아가 상기 마루 또는 골이 5um 내지 50um 간격으로 반복적으로 나타나도록 형성될 수도 있다.
한편, 상기 수광부(240)는 다음과 같은 공정과정을 거쳐 커버기판(220)상에 형성될 수 있다.
첫 번째로, 상기 커버기판(220)의 일부 영역에 요철구조를 형성시킨다. 이 때 글래스 포밍(Glass Forming) 공법이 활용될 수 있다. 두 번째로, 상기 요철구조가 형성된 커버기판(220) 상에 박막의 수광부(240)를 증착시킨다. 증착 방법은 앞서 언급한 것과 같이 진공증착법, CVD, 인쇄공법 등의 다양한 공법이 활용될 수 있으나 바람직하게는 진공증착법을 활용한다. 한편, 증착 이후 에칭 및 패터닝 과정, 그리고 재차 증착하는 등의 과정을 거쳐 최종적으로 요철구조의 수광부(240) 및 이에 접해 있는 커버기판(220)을 완성하게 된다.
한편, 상기 수광부(240)는 제1 전극(241), P층(242), 실리콘층(243), N층(244), 제2 전극(245)을 포함할 수 있다. 이 때, 상기 제1 전극, 상기 P층, 상기 실리콘층, 상기 N층, 상기 제2 전극은 도 5과 같이 상기 커버기판 하면에 평행하게 적층되어 형성되거나, 도 6과 같이 상기 커버기판 하면에 수직으로 적층되어 형성될 수 있다.
상기 제 1 전극(241) 및 상기 제 2 전극(245) 중 적어도 하나의 감지 전극은 광의 투과를 방해하지 않으면서 전기가 흐를 수 있도록 투명 전도성 물질을 포함할 수 있다, 일례로, 상기 전극(241, 245)은 인듐 주석 산화물(indium tin oxide), 인듐 아연 산화물(indium zinc oxide), 구리 산화물(copper oxide), 주석 산화물(tin oxide), 아연 산화물(zinc oxide), 티타늄 산화물(titanium oxide) 등의 금속 산화물을 포함할 수 있다.
또는, 상기 제 1 전극(241) 및 상기 제 2 전극(245) 중 적어도 하나의 감지 전극은 나노와이어, 감광성 나노와이어 필름, 탄소나노튜브(CNT), 그래핀(graphene) 또는 전도성 폴리머를 포함할 수 있다.
또는, 상기 제 1 전극(241) 및 상기 제 2 전극(245) 중 적어도 하나의 감지 전극은 다양한 금속을 포함할 수 있다. 예를 들어, 상기 전극(241, 245)은 크롬(Cr), 니켈(Ni), 구리(Cu), 알루미늄(Al), 은(Ag), 몰리브덴(Mo). 금(Au), 티타튬(Ti) 및 이들의 합금 중 적어도 하나의 금속을 포함할 수 있다. 또한, 상기 감지전극 물질들을 혼합하여 사용할 수 있다.
한편, 앞서 설명한 구성 이외에, 본 발명에 따른 감지장치는 제어부를 더 포함할 수 있는데, 제어부는 수광부(240)가 생성한 광전류 신호를 수신하여, 기 설정된 조건에 따라 광전류 신호를 분석할 수 있다. 이 때, 제어부는 센서를 포함하는 전자 장치의 목적 및 사용 방법에 따라서 광전류 신호를 용도에 맞는 적절한 분석을 수행할 수 있다.
예를 들어, 발광부와 수광부를 포함하는 센서가 심박 센서인 경우, 발광부가 조사한 광 신호가 커버기판 상에 위치하는 손가락/손목/팔목에서 흡수/반사되면, 흡수/반사된 광 신호를 수광부가 수신하여 수신한 광 신호의 세기에 따라서 광 전류를 발생하게 된다. 이 때, 심박 신호 센싱의 경우 발생된 광 전류 신호가 맥박에 따라서 강/약을 반복하게 되므로, 제어부는 광전류 신호의 강약 주기에 따라서 맥박을 측정할 수 있다.
이러한 제어부는 바람직하게는 상기 기판(210)에 구비된 집적회로(ASIC. Application Specific Integrated Circuit)의 형태로 구현될 수 있다.
한편, 본 발명은 저전력소모 심박(PPG) 센서에도 적용될 수 있는데, 저전력소모 심박 센서는 기판, 상기 기판 상에 형성되는 커버기판, 상기 커버기판에 광 신호를 조사하는 발광부, 상기 발광부가 조사하는 광 신호가 상기 커버기판 위의 대상물에 흡수 또는 반사되는 경우, 상기 흡수 또는 반사된 광 신호를 수신하고 광전류 신호를 생성하는 수광부를 포함하고, 상기 발광부 또는 상기 수광부는 상기 커버기판 상에 밀착하여 형성되는 것을 특징으로 한다.
위에서 설명된 본 발명의 실시 예들은 예시의 목적을 위해 개시된 것이며, 이들에 의하여 본 발명이 한정되는 것은 아니다. 또한, 본 발명에 대한 기술 분야에서 통상의 지식을 가진 자라면 본 발명의 사상과 범위 안에서 다양한 수정 및 변경을 가할 수 있을 것이며, 이러한 수정 및 변경은 본 발명의 범위에 속하는 것으로 보아야 할 것이다.
본 발명은 광 신호를 이용하여 대상물의 상태를 파악하기 위한 감지장치에 관한 것으로, 구체적으로는 기판과 커버기판 사이에 발광부 및 수광부를 구비한 감지장치에 있어, 상기 발광부에서 조사된 광 신호가 보다 효과적으로 수광부에 의해 감지될 수 있도록 상기 수광부를 커버기판 상에 밀착 형성시키고, 상기 수광부가 요철구조를 이루도록 형성시킴으로써 광 신호가 보다 효과적으로 감지될 수 있게 하며, 나아가 상기 발광부에서의 빛을 모아 대상물에 더 효과적으로 조사하기 위한 집광부를 포함함으로써 감도를 향상시키는 것을 특징으로 하는 감지장치에 관한 것이다.
Claims (10)
- 기판;상기 기판 상에 형성되는 커버기판;상기 기판 및 커버기판 사이의 공간에 구비되는 것으로서 상기 커버기판의 상면에 존재하는 대상물에 빛을 조사하는 발광부;상기 커버기판 상에 형성되고, 대상물에 의해 반사되는 광 신호를 수신하는 수광부; 를 포함하되,상기 수광부는 요철구조를 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 감지장치.
- 제 1항에 있어서,상기 수광부는 박막 형태로 상기 커버기판 상에 밀착하여 형성되는 감지장치.
- 제1항에 있어서,상기 수광부와 접하는 커버기판의 영역은 상기 수광부의 요철구조와 상응하는 요철구조를 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 감지장치.
- 제3항에 있어서,상기 요철구조의 마루 또는 골의 높이는 5um 내지 50um 인 것을 특징으로 하고, 상기 요철구조의 마루 또는 골은 5um 내지 50um 간격으로 형성된 것을 특징으로 하는 감지장치.
- 기판;상기 기판 상에 형성되는 커버기판;상기 기판 및 커버기판 사이의 공간에 구비되는 것으로서 빛을 조사하는 발광부;상기 커버기판 상에 형성되고, 대상물에 의해 반사되는 광 신호를 수신하는 수광부; 및상기 커버기판 상에 형성되고, 상기 발광부에 의해 출력된 빛을 모아 상기 커버기판 상면의 대상물에 조사하는 집광부;를 포함하는 감지장치.
- 제5항에 있어서,상기 집광부는 마이크로 렌즈인 것을 특징으로 하되,상기 마이크로 렌즈의 높이는 10um 내지 80um 인 것을 특징으로 하며,상기 마이크로 렌즈의 지름은 10um 내지 80um 인 것을 특징으로 하는 감지장치.
- 제5항에 있어서,상기 수광부는 요철구조를 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 감지장치.
- 제 5항에 있어서,상기 수광부는 박막 형태로 상기 커버기판 상에 밀착하여 형성되는 감지장치.
- 제5항에 있어서,상기 수광부와 접하는 커버기판의 영역은 상기 수광부의 요철구조와 상응하는 요철구조를 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 감지장치.
- 제7항에 있어서,상기 요철구조의 마루 또는 골의 높이는 5um 내지 50um 인 것을 특징으로 하되,상기 요철구조의 마루 또는 골은 5um 내지 50um 간격으로 형성된 것을 특징으로 하는 감지장치.
