Description

LIGHTING FIXTURE
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION Field of the Invention
This invention is related to the field of lighting. More specifically, the invention comprises a unibody lighting fixture that has IP68 protection factor. Description of the Related Art
When a lighting fixture is exposed to the outdoor elements for a long period of time, its case and fixing screws gradually corrode. This leads the outdoor fixture to lose its waterproof feature. Conventional waterproof fixtures includes a transparent tubular enclosure having two open ends which have waterproof connectors. [1] Mostly they includes waterproof pad, ring, glue, etc. to ensure waterproof performance [2], but these are not permanent solutions just because of the reasons emphasised above.
Also when an LED lamp is lightened over a long period of time, the heat generated by the LED would heat up the air inside the fixture. When a gas is heated, its particles speed up and increases the number of molecular collisions and the force of the collisions. According to the kinetic molecular theory, pressure is proportional to the number of molecular collisions and the force of the collisions in a particular area. The more collisions of gas molecules with the walls, the higher the pressure. [3] This pressure makes enlarged the fixing points of the waterproof fixture and when it gets cold it shrinks and sucks humidity. Humidity gives damage to a light beams homogeneity and gives harm to electrical connections. This is one of the most important problem of outdoor fixtures.
Brief Summary of the Invention
Design and science are an indivisible whole. Completed design most of the time is not strong enough to represent the idea. Therefore designers need to integrate the aesthetic approach and the science. Base upon this, we regenerated the perception of outdoor lighting fixtures. According to us, using mechanical solutions were temporary and they were not cost efficient. However IP problem of lighting fixtures can be solved by gathering correct materials and production method. Our fixture is designed with eliminating air in the fixture, as replacing it with resin to get rid of the harmful effects of the pressure.
Our fixtures reached the highest ingress protection factor, IP68, which is dust tight and resistant to continuous immersion.
This project is a breakthrough in outdoor lighting industry which is completely solves water, dust, humidity and corrosion problems with a unibody product which includes LED and cooling mechanism inside the transparent lens shaped resin.
Lenses can be customised for any type of beams and lighting solutions as followings; narrow, medium, wide, blade beams,.., symmetric, asymmetric, direct, indirect lights. Resin must be chosen to be resisted to thermal and ultraviolet degradation (yellowing). Application-specific modifications can be made on cooling unit, resin, led and lens.

7. Reflective Lens Shaped Resin Detailed Description of the Invention
Three different samples of same application have been described in this paper; each one represents different kind of beam solution.
FIG 1 and FIG 2 shows an example of resin and lens on top of it. Resin and lens were made from the same material. This model creates a narrow beam light with the fresnel lens [1] on top of the resin [2]. With this type of lens we can produce any angle of beam; narrow, medium, wide, symmetric and asymmetric.
At first cooling unit [4] and LED [3][5] components have been mounted each other, they were both placed in the mould that resin would be poured. After mounting of cooling unit and LED components, resin was being moulded over these parts without creating any bubbles which disturbs wavefront of light beam. As a result we could reach a unibody lighting fixture.
LED has been carefully chosen in order not to be disturbed by the heat of the production. In addition to this, the heat on the surface of the LED leads to the thermal degradation of the resin. So, resin and LED must be protected from the heat damages by the cooling unit. In our project heat dissipation was well provided by our cooling unit to stabilise heat which can be specialised for any power of led.
FIG 3 and FIG 4 shows an example of lens shaped resin. In this example, resin was moulded as a TIR lens [6].
Cooling unit [4] & LED components [3][5] were gathered with the same method as first example. With this type of resin we can produce collimated beams.
FIG 5 and FIG 6 is also an example of lens shaped resin but this is a different one, it directs the light at the right angle of source.
Resin was shaped at the critical angle of the light which is defined as the angle of incidence that provides an angle of refraction of 90-degrees that depends of the materials refractive index. The same moulding method with the first two example has been used to gather all components [3][4][5].
