- the particulate filter is usually also called
- Exhaust after-treatment device upstream of the particulate filter usually a
- Object of the present invention is to develop an exhaust aftertreatment device of the type mentioned in such a way that a particularly
- Exhaust gas aftertreatment device comprises a permeable by the exhaust gas and arranged upstream of the particulate filter combination catalyst.
- Combination catalyst comprises a first catalyst part, which is designed as an SCR catalyst or SCR catalyst part.

- SCR selective catalytic reduction
- nitrogen oxides contained in the exhaust gas react, in particular with components of a reducing agent introduced into the exhaust gas or with constituents which form from the reducing agent, into nitrogen and water.
- the first catalyst portion catalyses the SCR reaction and thus has a SCR-action so that by means of the first catalyst portion in particular nitric oxide (NO) and / or nitrogen dioxide (N0 2) to nitrogen (N 2) can be converted.

- the invention is based in particular on the finding that after a start, in particular after a cold start, the internal combustion engine and after a vehicle operation in the low load range, in particular after idling, that is, even after a sailing operation in which the internal combustion engine is in idle mode, and after Traffic light waits during which the
- the exhaust aftertreatment device according to the invention is particularly advantageous for diesel vehicles and especially for diesel trucks whose emissions, in particular nitrogen oxide emissions, can be kept particularly low by means of the exhaust gas aftertreatment device according to the invention.
- the invention is further based in particular on the knowledge that future emission requirements for internal combustion engines, in particular diesel engines, are increasingly aimed at taking account of various secondary emissions such as NO 2 and N 2 O and the operability of the exhaust aftertreatment device under real driving conditions.
- various secondary emissions such as NO 2 and N 2 O and the operability of the exhaust aftertreatment device under real driving conditions.
- Exhaust after-treatment devices comprising an oxidation catalyst, a particulate filter disposed downstream of the oxidation catalyst, an SCR catalyst downstream of the particulate filter, and an ASC (ammonia slip catalyst) downstream of the SCR catalyst will rapidly heat the SCR catalyst, particularly after a cold start and thus preventing high efficiency of the SCR catalyst.
- the SCR catalyst designed as the first catalyst part of the combination catalyst of the exhaust gas after treatment device according to the invention after the exit of the exhaust gas from the
- the first catalyst part formed as an SCR catalyst heats up comparatively quickly after a start or a low-load operation of the internal combustion engine, so that a comparatively quickly after a start or a low-load operation of the internal combustion engine
- Denitrification efficiency can be achieved in the designed as SCR catalyst first catalyst part.
- the SCR catalytic converter of the first catalytic converter part of the exhaust gas aftertreatment device according to the invention will be referred to as the first SCR catalytic converter.
- Low load operating conditions of the internal combustion engine is particularly strong in motor vehicles in the form of commercial vehicles or trucks stronger with the result of correspondingly higher exhaust emissions than in passenger cars, as in Commercial vehicle or truck due to space constraints compared to passenger cars a relatively large distance with an associated large distance between the internal combustion engine and the
- the exhaust gas has a very low temperature.
- the introduction of the reducing agent is turned off, so it does not
- Reducing agent is usually switched on or performed only when an SCR catalyst in which the reducing agent is to be reacted, has a temperature which is greater than 180 degrees Celsius.
- the shutdown of the introduction of the reducing agent has high nitrogen oxide emissions during the operating conditions mentioned, if no appropriate countermeasures are taken.
- the exhaust aftertreatment device By means of the exhaust aftertreatment device according to the invention, an extremely good cold start behavior and an advantageous behavior under real driving conditions can be realized. Especially in city mode N02 secondary emissions can be kept very low, in particular by NC shares of less than or equal to 50 percent. It has proven to be particularly advantageous if the first SCR catalyst is designed as a vanadium-based SCR catalyst. In the case of vanadium-based SCR catalysts, a comparatively low ammonia level is advantageously necessary for good denitrification efficiency.
- the noble metal layers are formed from platinum or from mixtures of platinum and palladium and the second noble metal content is higher than the first noble metal content.
- Precious metal layers of platinum and mixtures of platinum and palladium have high N0 2 formation activity and high catalytic activity for HC oxidation.
- this embodiment of the invention is based on the following knowledge: the higher the noble metal content of a catalyst, the higher the reaction rate of a NH 3 formed from the reducing agent to nitrous oxide (N 2 0) compared to a reaction rate of NH 3 to N 2 , Due to the lower precious metal content of the noble metal layer of the second Catalyst part is advantageously oxidized in the second part of the catalyst NH3 slip of the first SCR catalyst substantially to N 2 instead of N 2 0, so that formed as the oxidation part or oxidation catalyst third

- Catalyst part compared to the noble metal layer of the third catalyst part a high platinum content in a mixture of platinum and palladium, with a platinum content of the total mixture of at least 80 percent.
- the noble metal layer of the second catalyst part may also be formed exclusively with platinum.
- Part of the catalyst has a platinum content in a total mixture of platinum and palladium of at least 50 percent.
- the first noble metal content is in a range of from about 1 / 28316.8 grams per cubic centimeter up to and including about 5/28316 grams per cubic centimeter. This means that the first precious metal content is preferably in a range of from about
- an NH3-slip of the first SCR catalyst can advantageously be substantially N 2 are oxidized in place to N 2 0, so that to the formed as an oxidation catalyst third catalyst part no ammonia or only a very small amount of ammonia passes.
- the second noble metal content is in a range of, for example, 5 / 28316.8 grams per
- a first metering device is provided in the exhaust gas aftertreatment device, by means of which at least one upstream of the combination catalyst, and thus upstream of the first SCR catalyst, arranged first point a reducing agent, in particular an aqueous urea solution, for Entsticken the exhaust gas in the exhaust gas can be introduced.

- a second metering device is provided, by means of which at least one downstream of the first SCR catalyst and upstream of the second catalyst arranged second point a reducing agent, in particular an aqueous
- Urea solution can be introduced to Entsticken the exhaust gas in the exhaust gas.
- the second metering device is advantageously used to provide the exhaust gas reducing agent before entering the second catalyst, which is designed as an SCR catalyst, since for the function of acting as an oxidation catalyst third catalyst portion in the second catalyst part of the NH 3 slip is oxidized, so that downstream of the second catalyst part of the combination catalyst and thus also in the second catalyst, which is arranged downstream of the combination catalyst in the
- the second catalytic converter of the exhaust gas aftertreatment device according to the invention which is designed as an SCR catalytic converter, is referred to as a second SCR catalytic converter.
- the second metering device can be switched on or activated and with the second catalyst a nitrogen oxide reduction can take place with the reducing agent introduced with the second metering device.
- there is no time limit for a nitrogen oxide reduction during a N0 2 -based regeneration of the particulate filter which would be due to a storage capacity for NH 3 of the second SCR catalyst for this embodiment of the invention.
- the second point at which reducing agent can be introduced into the exhaust gas by means of the second metering device is arranged downstream of the particle filter.
- the particle filter is provided with a heavy-metal and noble metal-free coating and an oxidation of the carbon particles retained in the particle filter.
- Exhaust after-treatment device provided heavy metal and precious metal-free coating of the particulate filter advantageously has no polluting heavy metals and no other toxic or environmentally harmful substances.
- the heavy metal and precious metal-free coating of the particulate filter alkali and / or alkaline earth metal compounds.
- the heavy metal and precious metal-free coating of the particulate filter can particularly advantageously comprise alkali metal-containing silicates. Particulate filter with such
- Coating which in particular contains alkali metal-containing silicates, can advantageously catalyze solid substance reactions with soot particles.
- the coating of the particulate filter has, for example, a silicate structure, in which very finely distributed alkali metals, in particular potassium, as the active component of the catalytic
- Coating are involved.
- the coating of the particulate filter is on
- the coating of the particulate filter allows the passive regeneration of the particulate filter based on nitrogen dioxide (N0 2 ) even at very low nitrogen dioxide levels and / or even at lower temperatures, since the reaction of soot or carbon dioxide catalyzed by the coating with alkali and / or alkaline earth compounds the realized by means of this coating reaction contained in the particulate filter Soot particles with nitrogen dioxide in the particulate filter is a solid-state reaction that catalyzes, that is, supports, this coating. This reaction can be carried out with a particularly high reaction rate.
- the reaction of carbon black with nitrogen dioxide can already be carried out at smaller amounts of nitrogen dioxide and at higher reaction rates than in a particle filter with a noble metal-containing coating.
- the active, oxygen (02) -based soot oxidation or regeneration is comparatively better catalyzed by the coating with alkali and / or alkaline earth compounds and takes place in particle filters with such a coating already at significantly lower temperatures than in particle filters with noble metal coatings.
- a regeneration of the particulate filter is understood here to mean that at least part of the soot particles retained in the particulate filter is removed from the particulate filter as part of the regeneration.
- the particulate filter With increasing operating time and thus with increasing retention of soot particles from the exhaust gas, the particulate filter is increasingly added with soot particles. This clogging is also referred to as loading or loading of the particulate filter. As part of a regeneration, the loading of the
- Particulate filter is at least reduced by the soot particles are oxidized.
- the particle filter is oxidized in the context of regeneration, for example with the aid of NO 2 or burned free with the aid of O 2.
- Coatings of the particulate filter have the function of catalyzing the oxidation of the soot particles.
- the coating of the particulate filter with alkali and / or alkaline earth metal compounds allows NC-based regeneration of the particulate filter at much lower NÜ 2 quantities with a higher reaction rate compared to particulate filters with a noble metal-containing catalytic coating.
- the coating of the particulate filter with alkali-metal-containing silicates catalyzes the regeneration of the particulate filter with the aid of N0 2 particularly well, so that such a regeneration based on N0 2 , which is also referred to as passive regeneration, already at low N0 2 - Input concentrations, such as the N0 2 -Röemission the internal combustion engine, leading to a sufficient Rußabbrandrate and that it is advantageously not necessary, in particle filters with such a coating N0 2 -based regeneration continuously, but that a temporary regeneration is sufficient.
- Alkaline earth metal compounds already support NC-based regeneration at temperatures of around 300 degrees Celsius to 350 degrees Celsius.
- the C was based
- Soot regeneration may also partially replace N0 2 based regeneration in a temperature window of from about 300 degrees Celsius to 350 degrees Celsius if NO 2 - based regeneration is limited or completely eliminated due to low NO 2 concentrations, as is the case the total amount of NO 2 present in the exhaust gas at the upstream first SCR catalyst formed by the first catalyst part is consumed in the SCR reaction.

It has surprisingly been found that the volume ratio of the second and third catalyst part according to this embodiment of the invention is necessary so that with the exhaust aftertreatment device according to the invention, in particular a concentration of newly formed N 2 0 can be kept so low that future emission requirements for secondary emissions under real driving conditions can be.

Description
Daimler AG

Fig. 2 zeigt eine zweite Ausführungsform der Antriebseinrichtung 10.
maximale Dauer ohne Regeneration circa 100 Stunden (Zeittrigger)
