Description
Disinfection or sterilization device for the oral hygiene toothbrushes.
Description
Technical field
This invention relates to a device for the disinfection or sterilization of toothbrushes using ultraviolet rays, spray and / or disinfectant liquids.
Background Art
The main purpose of the toothbrush is to remove the plaque that accumulates on the mineralized tissues and the mucous membranes of the oral cavity and for this reason it must be disinfected and pathogen-free.
It is good practice to keep the toothbrush covered in order to keep it clean and hygienic. By leaving it out, for example in the glass, it can gather dust while keeping it covered in a constantly wet environment, such as a plastic capsule, can promote the growth of bacteria and fungi. Keeping multiple toothbrushes in a vertical position in the same container facilitates cross-contamination. A disinfection of the toothbrush is therefore understandably necessary for any individual and particularly for subjects suffering from periodontal diseases with the presence of particularly aggressive pathogens, for children, who are more subject to caries compared to the adult population, and for debilitated and immunosuppressed individuals, who should not be exposed to bacterial contamination.
Some devices suitable for the cleaning of toothbrushes have been publicised. Among these, some use ultraviolet rays. For example, US 2007080081 Al describes a toothbrush box with sterilization function including a box body, an ozone generator, a negative ion generator, an ultraviolet lamp and an antibiotic filter wrapped on the ultraviolet lamp. The ultraviolet lamp wrapped in the antibiotic filter, the ozone generator and the negative ion generator can sterilize the toothbrushes placed in the box.
The document KR 20130116994 A describes a toothbrush sterilizer comprising a main body having a receiving space inside; a toothbrush holder for holding one or more toothbrushes in the main body; an ultraviolet source for sterilizing and
drying a toothbrush and a part where ultraviolet rays are radiated on the surface of the toothbrush.
K 20110077464 A describes a sterilizer for a power toothbrush comprising a power supply connected to an ultraviolet lamp and a pressurization button. It also comprises a toothbrush case and a sterilization unit connected to the UV lamp. The water flowing from the toothbrush falls down and is collected in a tray.
Many devices suitable for the cleaning of toothbrushes using spray and / or disinfectant liquids have also been publicized.
The US 5882613 A patent describes a container for the sterilization of the toothbrush which comprises a container designed to receive and hold the bristles of a toothbrush immersed in a sterilizing solution. A reservoir of sterilizing solution supplies fresh solution to the container and a spout allows the used solution to be drained from the container.
US 6171559 Bl describes a toothbrush sterilization unit with a disinfectant. The toothbrush sterilization unit includes a housing having an interior compartment which includes a plurality of docking stations for holding in place a plurality of toothbrushes. The housing includes a pumping system assembly for dispensing a disinfectant on the bristle-heads of the toothbrushes.
But no known document describes a device suitable for the cleaning of toothbrushes that includes the use of both ultraviolet rays and spray and / or disinfectant liquids.
Disclosure of the Invention
The main aim of this invention is to make an improved device available which allows for the disinfection or sterilization of toothbrushes for oral hygiene through the use of both ultraviolet rays and spray and / or disinfectant liquids. - at least an outer casing;
- at least one container for one toothbrush, housed within each outer casing
and consisting of a material suitable to be crossed by ultraviolet rays;
- a base supporting each outer casing and housing at least a collection tank for the collection of any excess liquefied spray or disinfectant or sterilizing liquid;
- a source of spray or disinfectant or sterilizing liquid connected to the reservoir via quick- coupler or by screwing on the thread;
- a reservoir connected in a removable manner to the source of spray or disinfectant or sterilizing liquid;
- at least one loading tube of the spray or the disinfectant or sterilizing liquid; one end of at least one loading tube is connected to the reservoir and another end to a nozzle;
- at least one nozzle in communication with the container which is suitable to dispense a spray or a disinfectant or sterilizing liquid on the bristles and the handle of the toothbrush;
- at least one discharge tube of the liquefied spray or the finished disinfectant or sterilizing liquid; one end of each discharge tube is connected to a collection tank;
- an equipment capable of dispensing the spray or to force the disinfectant or sterilizing liquid to come out from the reservoir at a high pressure through each nozzle; such equipment comprising an electrically operated pump or a solenoid valve and a button or activation sensor that activates the spray dispensing or the disinfectant or sterilizing liquid insertion. The button or activation sensor may enable the dispensing of the spray or the disinfectant or sterilizing liquid insertion for a pre-set time or volume. These details, as others such as the use of non-return valves and agent valves for a pre-set time / volume, are well known to the experts in the field of the realization of a circuit for fluids and are easily applicable to the device according to the invention.
The other end of each loading tube of the spray or the disinfectant or sterilizing liquid passes through a coupling hole of the container while the other end of each discharge tube of the excess spray or disinfectant or sterilizing liquid is connected to a coupling hole at the base of each container.
Each collection tank is removable and washable. For this purpose, the base of the device has one or more openings in order to extract and empty the collecting tanks.
The device further comprises at least one ultraviolet lamp placed laterally between each outer casing and the container housed therein and an activation button or sensor of the same lamp. The ultraviolet lamps are powered by a small battery or by the mains. The activation button or sensor of the ultraviolet lamps can be timed to operate the ultraviolet lamps for a pre-set time.
Thanks to the device in accordance with the present invention, the disinfection or sterilization of toothbrushes is possible in the following ways:
- using only the ultraviolet rays;
- using only sprays and / or disinfectant or sterilizing liquids;
- using both ultraviolet rays and sprays and / or disinfectant or sterilizing liquids.
In accordance with the present invention, the term "source of spray or disinfectant or sterilizing liquid" means any container designed to hold a fluid. According to this invention, the disinfectant or sterilizing fluid usable with the device can be in liquid or gaseous form or result from the solubilization of tablets in water. The active ingredients used for disinfection or sterilization are biocompatible / bio tolerated and do not cause adverse reactions in the mucous membranes of the oral cavity.
In accordance with the present invention, the term "disinfection or sterilization" means the procedure to partially or totally reduce the microbial load on a toothbrush after its normal use for the mechanical cleaning of hard and soft tissues of the oral cavity and subsequent rinsing.
In accordance with the present invention, the term "biocompatible / bio tolerated" means the use of disinfectant substances that do not cause adverse reactions, diseases or are toxic for the mucous membranes of both humans or of mammals such as dogs or cats.
Active ingredients are preferably selected from the group consisting of:
chlorhexidine; chlorhexidine gluconate; Trichloro-2'-hydroxyphenyl ether, a cleanser based on thymus extract, chamomile and zinc complex with an acidic pH, povidone-iodine with active iodine, didecyldimethylammonium chloride or amuchine or mixtures thereof; and be in pure form or suitably diluted in aqueous, alcoholic, hydro alcoholic, soap or detergent solution. The expert in the field will advise further disinfectants, as requested, on the basis of his/her experience and knowledge.
It is evident to the average expert skilled in the field that through the use of simple solenoids, for example, the nozzles can be used for filling the containers in which the toothbrushes are housed with disinfectant liquid, after having installed a suitable closure / opening system on the discharge tubes.
It is also obvious to the average expert skilled in the field that the tanks can be equipped with discharge tubes which, thanks to the activation via a button, allow the draining of the sanitizing fluid used outside the device.
Moreover, as known to the expert in the field, the device may have a cover that prevents the entry of dust, useful also for its transportation. The lid covers each outer casing.
