Description
DESCRIPTION
THIRD STOP LAMP ASSEMBLY ILLUMINATING THE TRUNK
Field of the Invention
The present invention relates to use of the stop lamps, which are located at the rear parts of the vehicles and light up upon braking of the vehicle, for illuminating the vehicle trunk. Background of the Invention
There are stop lamps in motor vehicles which warn the vehicles in the rear that the vehicle in the front will be slowing as a result of braking. When the vehicle in the front brakes, the stop lamps at the back of the vehicle are lit to warn the driver of the vehicle in the rear. There are generally two stop lamps provided at the lower part of the vehicle trunk area. However, the drivers of high vehicles which are in the rear cannot see the stop lamps that are at the lower part in short distance. There is provided a third stop lamp in vehicles for this situation and to provide a more advantageous warning. The third stop lamp is located between the vehicle rear window and the vehicle trunk.
There is a trunk space provided in vehicles which is used for carrying loads and goods and is located at the rear part of the vehicle. The trunk space provided in vehicles cannot be seen by the user when light is insufficient and at night time, and an illuminating light is required. In the state of the art, an additional lamp is placed for illuminating the trunk. However, this additional illuminating lamp requires both installing electronic components and using an additional lamp, and causes disadvantages in terms of both cost and hardware. Korean patent document no. KR970010552 (B l), an application in the state of the art, relates to a stop lamp rotation mechanism which enhances visibility of the
vehicle stop lamp by the driver of a rear vehicle by means of a rotation mechanism provided on the vehicle stop lamp. In the said rotation mechanism, the rotation shaft connected to the vehicle stop lamp and the rotation mechanism connected to this shaft can automatically adjust the stop lamp according to the bends or ramps.

The illumination assembly (1), which enables to warn the rear vehicle upon braking and to illuminate the vehicle trunk space when necessary, basically comprises
at least one third stop lamp (2) which is located on the rear parcel shelf panel (A) in motor vehicles and which can emit light when necessary by means of the lamp provided therein,
at least one rotation mechanism (3), which provides freedom of movement for switching between two different positions in order to ensure that the
third stop lamp (2) is situated such that it can be seen by the driver of the rear vehicle and illuminates the vehicle trunk space, and comprises
• at least one fixing member (31) which is provided in the form of a body on the rear parcel shelf panel (A) and which enables the third stop lamp (2) to be fixed thereon,
• at least one hinge (32), which is located between the third stop lamp (2) and the fixing member (31), and which enables the third stop lamp (2) to perform a rotational movement on the fixing member (31) to which it connected,
• at least one movement bracket (33) which is located between the hinge (32) and the third stop lamp (2) and which enables vertical movement of the third stop lamp (2) on the hinge (32) and enables the third stop lamp (2) to be attached onto the hinge (32), at least one piston (4), which is fixed onto the rear parcel shelf panel (A) from one side thereof and is attached onto the third stop lamp (2) from the other side thereof, and which, as a result of the opening and closing movement it performs by means of a moveable lever (41) provided thereon, enables the third stop lamp (2) to perform a hinge (32) centered rotational movement,
at least one joint (5) which is located at the end of the piston (4) where it is fixed onto the rear parcel shelf panel (A) and which enables the piston (4) to perform a rotational movement around the place that it is fixed.
The illumination assembly (1) of the present invention is comprised of a third stop lamp (2) located on the rear parcel shelf panel (A), and a rotation mechanism (3) which enables switching between two different positions in order to ensure that the third stop lamp (2) is situated such that it can be seen by the driver of the rear vehicle and illuminates the vehicle trunk space. The third stop lamp (2), which emits light upon braking of the vehicle in the first position, takes a second
position by means of a rotational movement such that it faces the vehicle trunk space via a hole on the rear parcel shelf panel (A) and illuminates the trunk space.
In the illumination assembly (1) of the present invention, a rotation mechanism (3) is formed for rotating the third stop lamp (2). The rotation mechanism (3) carries out the rotation movement basically by means of a hinge (32) mechanism provided on the side of the third stop lamp (2) from which the lamp is fixed onto the rear parcel shelf panel (A). The rotation mechanism (3) also includes a fixing member (31), which is located on the vehicle rear parcel shelf panel (A) and which provides height for the rotation movement of the third stop lamp (2), and a movement bracket (33), which supports movement of the third stop lamp (2) on the hinge (32).
In one embodiment of the invention, there is a piston (4) which provides driving power for the rotation mechanism (3). The piston (4) is fixed onto the vehicle rear parcel shelf panel (A) from the fixed part thereof and is attached onto the third stop lamp (2) via the piston (4) moveable lever (41). As the moveable lever (41) in the piston (4) makes an opening movement, the moveable lever (41) applies a force on the third stop lamp (2) to which it is connected, and by means of the said force, the third stop lamp (2) makes a rotational movement via the hinge (32) that it is connected to. When the piston (4) moveable lever (41) completely opens, the third stop lamp (2) makes a hinge (32) centered rotational movement of preferably 90 degrees and enables the third stop lamp (2) to take the position in which it will illuminate the trunk space. Likewise, when the piston (4) moveable lever (41) is closed, the third stop lamp (2) preferably makes a hinge (32) centered rotational movement and enables the third stop lamp (2) to be positioned such that it can be seen by the driver of a rear vehicle. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the piston (4) moveable lever (41) is attached onto the movement bracket (33) which moves together with the third stop lamp (2).
In one embodiment of the invention, a joint (5) is provided between the piston (4) and the rear parcel shelf panel (A) in order for the piston (4) to efficiently convey rotational movement onto the third stop lamp (2). The joint (5) located between the piston (4) and the vehicle rear parcel shelf panel (A) enables the piston (4) to perform a vehicle rear parcel shelf panel (A) centered rotational movement, and makes it easy for the piston (4) to transmit the rotational movement onto the third stop lamp (2).
In one embodiment of the invention, there is a motor which provides driving power for the rotation mechanism (3). When the motor is activated, it transmits a rotational movement onto the hinge (32) and enables the third stop lamp (2) to perform a hinge (32) centered rotational movement of preferably 90 degrees, and brings the third stop lamp (2) to a position in which it will illuminate the trunk space.
In one embodiment of the invention, there is a button provided to be used for the third stop lamp (2) to illuminate the trunk space. The button, which is provided on the vehicle trunk space or inside the vehicle or used via a remote control, is used for activating the motor or piston (4) which drives the third stop lamp (2).
In one embodiment of the invention, there is a control unit which enables the third stop lamp (2) to be automatically used for illuminating the trunk space. When the vehicle trunk lid (B) is opened, a movement sensor provided on the vehicle detects the opening movement and sends a signal to the control unit. Upon receiving the signal, the control unit activates the motor or the piston (4) that drives the third stop lamp (2) and enables to light the stop lamp.
In one embodiment of the invention, there is a light sensor which warns the control unit to activate illumination of the third stop lamp (2). The light sensor measures the trunk space light, and when necessary, sends a signal to the control
unit to enable the vehicle third stop lamp (2) to perform a rotational movement and emit light.
In one embodiment of the invention, rotational movement of the third stop lamp (2) is realized by the opening movement of the vehicle trunk lid (B). The hinge (32) mechanism, to which the third stop lamp (2) is connected, is associated with an axial junction which forms the rotation center of the vehicle trunk lid (B), and with the opening movement of the trunk lid (B), the third stop lamp (2) performs a rotational movement and illuminates the trunk space.
