Description
Improvements in or relation to roller gates Field of the Invention
The present invention relates to improvements in or relation to roller gates of the type as described in the preamble of claim 1.
Background of the Invention
By way of example in freezing houses roller gates of the above mentioned type are often used in combination with more conventional wickets in the form of more heavy side wards hinged or sliding port lid members - where the quick roller gates are oper- ated during the working hours of the day, where the traffic with trucks in and out from the freezing house is of a considerate amount - while said more heavy side wards hinged or sliding port leaf members are used during the evening and nights, when the traffic with trucks through the gate is low or when the freezing house is closed. WO 2008/046422 discloses a previous roller gate suited as a starting point for this invention.
However, in practice existing quick roller gates of this type have so low insulation ability that the insulation effect most often is not counted on at all, which means that most often such existing quick roller gates are simply not in operation during the working hours of the day.
Object of the Invention
The invention has for its purpose to provide a new and improved roller gate or door of the introductory mentioned type and by means of which may be achieved a very im- portant improvement in the operation of the roller gate or door during daily use where a great number of trucks are passing in and out to and from a freezing house or room. In this connection it is very important that the claimed and described roller gate or door operates very quickly and with a minimum of maintenance work during the working day.
Description of the Invention
The roller gate or door according to the invention is characterised by that said one or more layers of said gate or door leaf at a first side of the gate or door leaf are factory- tailored with transverse directed pockets and with a smooth surface at an opposite side of the gate or door leaf - as said first side of the gate or door leaf is facing inwards when rolled up around said reel system.
By simple provisions may hereby be achieved very important improvements in the operation of the roller gate or door during daily use where a great number of trucks are passing in and out to and from a freezing house or room.
In this connection it is very important that the claimed and described roller gate or door operates very quickly and with a minimum of maintenance work during the working day.
An objective is achieved by a roller gate of the type which is typically used in gateways in industrial buildings such as freezing houses or the like. The gate or door leaf may be configured to be open when rolled up around a reel system operated by a driving mechanism. The gate or door leaf may consist of one or more layers of a flexible artificial web. One or more layers of said gate or door leaf may at a first side of the gate or door leaf be factory-tailored with transverse directed pockets and with a substantially flush surface at an opposite side of the gate or door leaf. The first side of the gate or door leaf may be facing inwards when rolled up around said reel system. Thereby it is achieved that the roller gate isolates well when the leaf is rolled down and the leaf may be rolled up. The construction may even allow for a choice of isolation since isolation material can be inserted into the pockets. At the same time the leaf can be rolled up and rolled up even fast. The construction is further advantageous by having surfaces that are easily cleaned and maintained.
The roller gate may then actually isolate when rolled down and at the same time be able to roll up and thus provide a substantial improvement over prior art system that are often left open during the day due to limited isolation effect or slow roll-up / roll- down times.
In an aspect the longitudinal block-shaped members arranged in or configured to be arranged in said first side of said gate or door leaf are provided with inwardly inclined side edges.
Thereby the leaf with the longitudinal block-shaped member inserted into a pocket may be bent or rolled up since the inclined side edges leave a volume available so that the leaf can be rolled up. A person skilled in the art will adjust the inclination of the side edges to a particular radius of a rolled up leaf. This construction maintains isola- tion properties of the leaf.
In an aspect the transverse directed pockets are provided with open ends for insertion of longitudinal block-shaped members of insulation material. The material may be Neoprene® or similar foamed insulation material.
In an aspect the first side is substantially flush when rolled down. In an aspect the first side surface is a plane surface when the leaf is rolled out or down. The surface is easily cleaned and does not accumulate dirt or particles. At the same time the first side surface ensures that insulation properties are improved.
The first side surface and the opposite side surface may be substantially flush. Having identical longitudinal block-shaped members in the first side and identical longitudinal block-shaped members in the opposite side will provide an essentially uniform isolation that can be rolled up.
In an aspect the first side transverse pockets on the first side are shifted relative to the transverse pockets on the opposite side in the roll-up/down direction. Thereby is provided a leaf that can be rolled up having uniform bending properties with reduced thermal bridges.
In an aspect the transverse pockets in the first side with the inserted longitudinal block-shaped members have one or more volumes enclosed without the block-shaped members for bending when rolled up and isolating when rolled down.
However, most important is that the final thickness of said longitudinal block-shaped members of the flexible gate or door leaf may have significant thickness of some 2 x 40 mm - as both the pockets at said first side and the pockets also at said opposite side are factory-tailored to be able to take-up rather thick longitudinal block-shaped mem- bers which in each layers have a thickness of some 40 mm.
In practice this means that also during the working hours of the day there can be operated with large insulation ability of the roller gate or door leaf - which means very significant and important savings of cooling effect, because also the very quickly op- erated roller gate according to the invention has an improved ability to effectively cool insulate the gateway during daily operation.
Preferably, the roller gate according to the invention is such provided that said longitudinal block-shaped members at the inside of said gate or door leaf are provided with inwardly inclined side edges, hereby is a simple manner obtained that the gate or door leaf can be rolled more tightly rolled up on the reel system.
In order to improve the production of the gate or door leaf the roller gate according to the invention may be such provided that said transverse directed pockets are provided with open ends for insertion of longitudinal block-shaped members of insulation material such as Neoprene® or similar foamed insulation material.
Appropriately, the roller gate according to the invention may be such provided that said gate or door leaf at opposite side edges is adapted to be guided in vertical side guards which are provided with elongated electrical heating elements.
In order to utilize the generated heat the roller gate according to the invention may advantageously be such provided that said vertical side guards communicate with vertical channels leading - as a chimney - the generated heat air upwards to said reel sys- tern - the later may be placed above the roller gate either inside or outside a freezing room or house.
In order to prevent released frozen items to fall down from the upper reel system the roller gate according to the invention may advantageously be such provided that said
upper reel system being provided with a lower demountable flexible closure leaf consisting of one or more web layers filled with a suitable insulation material.
In order to prevent operation of the gate or door leaf 6 when there is any traffic through the gate- or doorway 4 - the roller gate according to the present invention may be such provided that said vertical side guards being provided with a laser curtain extending in the range of 250 cm from the bottom of the gate- or doorway.
Furthermore, the roller gate according to the invention may be such provided that said transverse pockets at said open ends are provided with closure straps adapted to secure said inserted longitudinal block-shaped members of insulation material - hereby is in a simple manner obtained an easy way to secure that said block-shaped members are held in correct position in the gate or door leaf.
Appropriately, the roller gate according to the invention may be such provided that said rolling up mechanism as known per see includes one or more tensioning webs positioned at said first side of the rolled up gate or door leaf and said opposite side of the rolled up gate or door leaf - as an upper end web part of said gate or door leaf is made without said longitudinal block-shaper members. In order to make it possible to arrange the roller gate according to the invention as a pre-manufactured gate or door unit comprising an upper housing for said reel system and its belonging rolling up mechanism it may be advantageously that said housing at a transverse first side is caringly connected with upright supports at opposite sides of the roller gate and by means of inclined supports extending between said upright sup- ports and an opposite transverse side of the housing. In a simple manner it is hereby obtained that such pre-manufactured gate or door unit may be adapted to be mounted inside or outside a gate- or doorway to a freezing room or house.

Fig. 6 shows a perspective exploded view of the preferred embodiment for a roller gate - as shown in the preceding figures.
Detailed Description of the Invention
A preferred embodiment for a roller gate or door 2 according to the invention is shown Figs 1-6, where the latter Fig. 6 shows a perspective exploded of a preferred embodiment for a roller gate or door 2.
The shown embodiment for a roller gate or door 2 according to the invention is preferably built-up as a pre-manufactured unit which is suited for mounting in the gateway openings 4 of freezing rooms or freezing houses - that means that it don't matter whether the pre-manufactured roller gate unit is mounted at the inside or at the outside of the gateways opening 4.
The roller gate 2 is of the type which is typically used in gateways 4 in industrial buildings such as freezing houses or the like, where the gate or door leaf 6 by opening is rolled up around an upper reel system 8 operated by a driving mechanism 10, and where the gate or door leaf 6 consists of one or more layers of a flexible artificial web such as a reinforced tarpaulin web of PVC or polyester.
One or more layers of said gate or door leaf 6 is at a first side 12 of the gate or door leaf 6 factory-tailored with transverse directed pockets 14 and with a smooth surface
at an opposite side 16 of the gate or door leaf 6 - as said first side 12 of the gate or door leaf 6 is facing inwards when rolled up around said reel system 8.
The roller gate 2 according to the invention is as stated such provided that said trans- verse directed pockets 14 are provided with open ends 18 for insertion of longitudinal block-shaped members 20 of insulation material such as Neoprene® or similar foamed insulation material.
In order to keep said longitudinal block-shaped members 20 in correct positions it may be advantageously that said transverse pockets 14 at said open ends 18 are provided with closure straps 34 adapted to secure said inserted longitudinal block-shaped members 20 of insulation material.
The thickness of these block-shaped members 20 is about 40 mm so that the effective thickness of the longitudinal block-shaped insulation members 20 at both sides of the gate or door leaf 6 has a total thickness of some 80 mm. In practice that means that the insulating ability of said gate or door leaf 6 is significant high.
Preferably, said longitudinal block-shaped members 20 at said first side 12 of said gate or door leaf 6 being provided with inwardly inclined side edges 22, such that when the gate or door leaf 6 is rolled up around said reel system 8 may take up a minimum of space in the reel system.
Opposite side edges 24 of said gate or door leaf 6 are adapted to be guided in vertical side guards 26 which are provided with elongated electrical heating elements 28. Furthermore, it would be advantageously that said vertical side guards 26 communicate with upright supports in the form of vertical channels 30 leading - as a chimney - the generated heat air upwards to said reel system 8. In a simple practical manner it is hereby achieved that the formation of ice inside an overhead housing 38 at the same time may be reduced or prevented.
In order to facilitate maintenance work said overhead housing 38 for said upper reel system 8 may be such provided with a lower flexible demountable closure leaf 32 is consisting of one or more web layers filled with a core of suitable insulation material.
Furthermore, it may be advantageously that said vertical side guards 26 being provided with a laser curtain 34 extending upwards in the range of some 250 cm from the bottom of the gateway opening 4. In a rather simple manner it is hereby possible to prevent the operation of the gate or door leaf 6 when there is any form for traffic through the gate- or doorway 4.
As per see known said rolling up mechanism may include one or more tensioning webs positioned at said first side 12 of the rolled up gate or door leaf 6 and at said opposite side 16 of the rolled up gate or door leaf 6 - as an upper web end part 36 of said gate or door leaf 6 is made without said longitudinal block-shaper members 20.
As already mentioned the roller gate or door 2 comprises an upper housing 38 for accommodating said reel system 8 and its belonging rolling up mechanism.
However in order to facilitate and support the pre-manufacturing of the roller gate or door 2 as a flexible unit which may independently of the proper placement or mounting of said pre-manufactured unit inside or outside the gateway of a freezing room or a freezing house it may be advantageously, that said housing 38 at a transverse first side is caringly connected with said upright supports 40 at opposite sides of the roller gate 2 and by means of inclined support members 42 extending between said upright supports 40 and an opposite transverse side of the housing 38.
