Description

A REINFORCED PACKAGE, IN PARTICULAR FOR TILES
DESCRIPTION
The present invention relates to a reinforced package, particularly suitable for containing slab-shaped objects, in particular ceramic tiles. The invention further relates to a blank for realising the package.
Ceramic tiles are very commonly packed in packs comprising some tiles stacked one on another. A pack of tiles is contained by means of packages, typically made of blanked cardboard, which envelop only the lateral edges and a peripheral upper and lower border of the pack thereof.
The packages at present available are very light and compact, and sufficiently protect the surfaces of the tiles, while they do not provide sufficient guarantees of protection to the edges, especially when the packs are not positioned horizontally but vertically, resting on a lateral side.
An aim of the present invention is to provide a reinforced package which guarantees a sturdy protection of the edges of the tiles.
An advantage of the package is that it is equally light and compact in comparison to the packages at present available.
A further advantage of the package is that it can be assembled in-line starting from appropriately-profiled blanks.
Further characteristics and advantages of the present invention will become more apparent in the following detailed description of an embodiment of the present invention, illustrated by way of non-limiting example in the attached figures, in which:
- figure 1 illustrates a first embodiment of the package according to the present invention;
- figure 2 illustrates a blank predisposed for realising the package of figure 1 ;
- figures from 3 to 5 illustrate some folding steps of the blanks for obtaining the package of figure 1 ;
- figure 6 illustrates a second embodiment of the package according to the present invention;
- figure 7 illustrates a blank predisposed for realising the package of figure 6;
- figures from 8 to 10 illustrate some folding steps of the blanks for obtaining the package of figure 6.
The reinforced package according to the present invention comprises four sides (L1 , L2, L3, L4) each of which comprises a lateral portion (2), which defines a lateral side of the package, an upper portion (3), which defines an upper surface of the package, and a lower portion (4), which defines a lower surface of the package. The upper portion (3) and the lower portion (4) are substantially parallel to one another, while the lateral portion is perpendicular to the previous ones. The four sides (L1 -L4) are arranged in a rectangle.
Each side of the package, seen in section along a perpendicular plane to the longitudinal extension thereof, substantially has a C-shape with an opening facing toward the other sides and the central zone of package. In a known way, this conformation enables the package to contain a pack of tiles along the perimeter of the tiles, covering the lateral surfaces of the tiles and a peripheral border of the topmost tile and the bottom tile of the stack.
At least a side of the package comprises a blank (1 ), illustrated in figure 2, which is provided with a median flap (2), destined to define the lateral portion (2) of the side. The blank further comprises at least a first side flap (3), joined to the median flap (2) at a first folding line (23). The first side flap (3) is destined to define the upper portion (3) of the side. The blank further comprises at least a second side flap (4), joined to the median flap (2) at a second folding line (24) parallel to the first folding line (23). The second side flap (4) is destined to form the lower portion (4) of the side. The blank (1 ) is structured so as to be folded at the folding lines (23, 24) so as to assume a C-shape with an opening facing towards the other sides of the package. The blank (1 ) further comprises at least a first reinforcement flap (5), which is joined to one end of the median flap (2) at a third folding line (25) which is perpendicular to the first and second folding line (23,24).
In the package the first reinforcement flap (5) is superposed on the lateral portion (2) of an adjacent side. In particular, the first reinforcement flap (5) is destined to fold about the third folding line (25) so as to be arranged perpendicularly to the median flap (2). In this way the reinforcement flap (5) can be arranged parallel to the median flap or the lateral portion (2) of an adjacent side and be fixed thereto, on an internal or external side. In figure 1 , for example, the first reinforcement flap (5) of the fourth side (L4) of the package is superposed on the lateral portion (2) of the second side (L2) of the package. Figure 3, for example, shows the first reinforcement flap (5) of the first side (L1 ) of the package folded so as to be able to superpose on the lateral portion (2) of the fourth side (L4) of the package, as can be deduced from figure 4.
The blank (1 ) preferably comprises a second reinforcement flap (6) joined to a second end of the median flap (2) at a fourth folding line (26) which is parallel to the third folding line (25). In the package, the second reinforcement flap (6) is also superposed on the lateral portion (2) of an adjacent side. In particular, also the second reinforcement flap (6) is destined to fold about the fourth folding line (26) in order to be arranged perpendicularly to the median flap (2). In this way the second reinforcement flap (6) can be arranged parallel to the lateral portion (2), defined by the median flap of the relative blank, of an adjacent side and be fixed thereto on an internal or external side.
Figures from 1 to 5 show a version of the package in which all the sides comprise a blank (1 ) provided with both the reinforcement flaps (5, 6). The blanks of a parallel first and second side (L1 , L2) have the reinforcement flaps (5, 6) thereof folded and associated to an internal side of the blanks of the remaining sides (L3, L4). Already only the use of two blanks provided with reinforcement flaps (5, 6) for two parallel sides enables obtaining a decidedly sturdier package in the zone of the edges with respect to the packages of known type, as the presence of the reinforcement flaps (5, 6) doubles the thickness of the lateral wall of the package.
In the illustrated version, apart from the first and the second side (L1 , L2), the third and fourth side (L3, L4) also comprise a blank provided with both the reinforcement flaps (5, 6). As is visible in figure 4, the reinforcement flaps (5, 6) of the first and the second side (L1 , L2) are arranged internally of the third and the fourth side (L3, L4). The reinforcement flaps (5, 6) of the third and the fourth side (L3, L4) are instead arranged externally of the first and the second side (L1 , L2). In the corner zone the package therefore has at least two layers of material.
As already specified, the package according to the first embodiment can be obtained starting from four blanks (1 ) each having two reinforcement flaps (5, 6). The first two blanks (1 ) destined to define the first and the second side (L1 , L2) are folded by about 90° about the second folding lines (24) and the first folding lines. The reinforcement flaps (5, 6) are equally folded by about 90° about the folding lines thereof. In this way the first and second side (L1 , L2) assume the above-described C- shape with the openings facing one another.
The other two blanks (1 ), destined to define the second and third side (L3, L4), are likewise folded about the first and second folding lines (23, 24) thereof and the reinforcement flaps (5, 6) folded by about 90° about the folding lines thereof, so as to assume the described C-shaped conformation with openings facing one another.
The first and second side (L1 , L2) can therefore be inserted, in the zone of the ends thereof, internally of the end zone of the second and the third side (L3, L4), so as to bring the respective angles into contact, i.e. so as to bring into contact the reinforcement flaps (5, 6) of the median flaps (2) of the adjacent sides, following the interposing of a fixing means, for example glue. The folding sequence to which the blanks (1 ) are subjected can vary in relation to the method and the apparatus chosen for the realisation of the package. The sequence illustrated in the figures initially includes for example superposing the blanks of the first and second side (L1 , L2) on the blanks of the third and fourth side (L3, L4). Thereafter the blanks of the first and second side (L1 , L2) are folded about the second folding line (24) and the reinforcement flaps (5, 6) folded about the folding lines thereof. At this point the blanks of the third and fourth side (L3, L4) are folded about the second folding line (24), so as to bring the median flaps (2) into contact with the reinforcement flaps (5, 6) of the first and second side (L1 , L2). Thereafter the blanks of the first and second side (L1 , L2) are folded about the first folding line (23), the blanks of the third and fourth side (L3, L4) are in turn folded about the respective first folding line (23) thereof so as to superpose the first lateral flaps (3) thereof and the median flaps (2) thereof respectively on the first lateral flaps (3) and on the reinforcement flaps (5, 6) of the first and second side (L1 , L2). Lastly the reinforcement flaps (5, 6) of the third and fourth side (L3, L4) are folded about the folding lines thereof, so as to superpose on the median flaps (2) externally of the first and second side (L1 , L2). During the folding steps described in the foregoing, the fixing means between the blanks can be variously predisposed. A plurality of glue spots can preferably be deposited on the blanks (1 ) at the superposing and contact zones.
In a second embodiment of the blank (1 ), illustrated in figures from 6 to 10, the first reinforcement flap (5) is provided with two lateral appendages (51 ,52), which are joined to the reinforcement flap (5) at respective lateral folding lines (51 a, 52a) aligned to the first and second folding line (23,24).
In particular, the lateral appendages (51 , 52) are predisposed on the blanks destined to form the third and fourth side (L3, L4). In the configuration folded about the folding lines (51 a, 52a) thereof, the lateral appendages (51 , 52) are superposed respectively on the upper portion (3) and on the lower portion (4) of the side thereof. The second reinforcement flap (6) is also preferably provided with two lateral appendages (61 , 62), which are joined to the reinforcement flap (6) at respective lateral folding lines (61 a, 62a) which are aligned to the first and second folding line (23, 24). In the configuration folded about the folding lines (61a, 62a) thereof, the lateral appendages (61 , 62) of the second reinforcement flap (6) are superposed respectively on the upper portion (3) and on the lower portion (4) of the side thereof.
In the illustrated version, the third and the fourth side (L3, L4) comprise a blank provided with the reinforcement flaps (5, 6) and lateral flaps (51 , 52, 61 , 62). Each first reinforcement flap (5) is superposed on the lateral portion (2) of a respective adjacent side of the package, while the lateral appendages (51 , 52) are superposed respectively on the upper portion (3) and on the lower portion (4) of the side thereof. In turn each second reinforcement flap (6) is superposed on the lateral portion (2) of a respective adjacent side of the package, while the lateral appendages (61 , 62) are superposed respectively on the upper portion (3) and on the lower portion (4) of the side thereof. The folding of the lateral flaps (51 , 52, 61 , 62) is substantially carried out at the termination of the above-described steps for the realisation of the first form of the package (figures from 1 to 5).
The use of the lateral appendages (51 , 52, 61 , 62) further strengthens the corners of the package, as each lateral appendage adds a layer of material on the upper surface or on the lower surface of the package.
