Definitions

  • the present invention relates to chairs. More particularly, the present invention relates to a chair transformable into a chaise longue.
  • Comfortable chairs such as TV chairs are known in the art.
  • the user can lift his or hers legs as in a chaise longue - one is a cumbersome mechanism by which an extension is being lifted from the bottom area of the chair and the other is to add an ottoman for legs. It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide a chair that can be easily transformable into a chaise longue or a like. Further objects and advantages of this invention will appear as the description proceeds.
  • a chair configured to transform between a chair position and an extended position, the chair comprising: a base layer; a swiveling layer, configured to swivel between a chair position and an extended position, wherein the swiveling layer is placed on top of the base layer; and a connector configured to connect the base layer and the swiveling layer.
  • the chair further comprises at least one leg attached to the base layer.
  • the connector is configured to allow rotation of the base layer and the swiveling layer one in relation to the other.
  • the swiveling layer is configured to rotate about the connector between a chair position and an extended position.
  • the swiveling layer in the chair position the swiveling layer is fully positioned on top of the base layer, wherein the swiveling layer is configured to serve as a seat and a back of the chair; and wherein in the extended position the swiveling layer partially covers the base layer and a portion of the swiveling layer extends beyond an edge of the base layer, wherein the swiveling layer is configured to serve as a seat, the extended portion of the swiveling layer is configured to support legs of a user sitting on the chair, and the base layer is configured to serve as a back of the chair.
  • the connector comprises: a bearing mounted within a recess in the base layer; and a pivot connected to the swiveling layer and comprising a pin within the bearing, wherein the pivot is configured to rotate within the bearing and allow swiveling of the swiveling layer.
  • the recess is configured to accommodate the connector and prevent a bumpy surface, thus allowing a flat surface in the swiveling layer where the user sits.
  • Figure 1 illustrates a chair, according to an exemplary embodiment.
  • Figure 2 illustrates the chair shown in Figure 1, in an extended position.
  • Figure 3 illustrates a cross sectional view of the chair with a user sitting on it.
  • Figure 4 illustrates a cross sectional view of the chair in an extended position with a user sitting on it.
  • Figure 5 illustrates an enlarged cross sectional view of a connector in the chair according to an exemplary embodiment.
  • Figure 6 illustrates an exploded view of the chair according to an exemplary embodiment.
  • Figures 1 and 2 illustrate a chair 10, according to an exemplary embodiment in two positions - the first as illustrated in Figure 1 is in a chair position, and the second as illustrated in Figure 2 is in an extended position, also known as chaise longue position.
  • the chair 10 comprises two layers.
  • Figures 3 and 4 that illustrate cross sectional views of the chair 10 in those two positions with a user sitting on the chair, the swiveling layer 12 is on top of base layer 14 or partially on it, respectively.
  • Figure 3 illustrates the chair 10 in a chair position in which swiveling layer 12 fully serves as the seat and the back of the chair 10 and fully positioned on top of base layer 14.
  • Figure 4 illustrates an extended position of the chair 10 in which the swiveling layer 12 is rotated about a connector 15 that connects the two layers.
  • An exemplary embodiment of the connector 15 is a plug.
  • the swiveling layer 12 rotates from a position shown in Figures 1 and 3, in which it substantially corresponds to base layer 14, into an opposite position in which it partially covers base layer 14, but extends beyond the edge of base layer 14. In this position, shown in Figures 2 and 4, the user can extend his or her legs onto the extended portion.
  • the chair 10 comprises also at least one leg 16 attached to the base layer.
  • the at least one leg 16 can be in any shape designed. It can be seen that the legs 16 in Figures 1 and 2 are different from the legs 16 in Figures 3 and 4, and this is without limiting the scope of the present invention.
  • Connector 15 comprises a bearing 20 that is mounted within a recess 22 in the base layer 14 and a pivot 18 that is connected to swiveling layer 12 and having a pin within bearing 20. Pivot 18 is adapted to rotate within the bearing 20 that allows swiveling layer 12 to swivel to its opposite position.
  • Figure 6 illustrating an exploded view of the chair 10 according to an exemplary embodiment. The swiveling layer 12 and the base layer 14 can be clearly seen and the connector 15, comprising the pivot 18 and the bearing 20 between them, positioned in a dedicated recess 22 in the base layer 14.
  • the bearing 20 allows easy rotation of the swiveling layer 12 about the connector 15 without any difficulty. It should be mentioned that recess 22 is designed so as to accommodate the connector 15 and prevent a bumpy surface in the swiveling layer 12 where the user sits. In any positioning the swiveling layer 12 is placed, chair position or extended position, the surface of the swiveling layer 12 is flat and convenient.
  • swiveling layer 12 acts as the seat of the chair 10. However, only in the chair position, the swiveling layer 12 may act as a back portion. In the extended position, the base layer 14 acts as the back of the chair 10.
  • the connector may comprise any mechanism that can allow connection between the layers as well as ability to easily allow the rotation of the layers one in relation of the other. It is appreciated that certain features of the invention, which are, for clarity, described in the context of separate embodiments, may also be provided in combination in a single embodiment. Conversely, various features of the invention, which are, for brevity, described in the context of a single embodiment, may also be provided separately or in any suitable sub combination.
