Description

A MULTI-AXIS MOVABLE SPACE MAINTAINER WHICH PREVENTS THE LOSS
OF SPACE AFTER TOOTH LOSSES
DESCRIPTION TECHNICAL FIELD
Invention is about a multi-axis movable space maintainer which prevents the anomalies that occurs if one or more neighbor primary teeth are required to be extracted before their natural falling time for any reason or filling of the extraction cavities by the neighbor teeth after the extraction of permanent teeth until the further treatments (surgical, prosthesis, etc.) and it is also used to regain the occurred space losses.
PRIOR ART
Early loss of primary teeth can cause a delay in permanent teeth's emergence, change the emergence position of the primary teeth, it can even cause the permanent teeth to stay embedded. These problems with the permanent teeth can cause disorders in jaw structure and jaw relations during the growth and development processes and it can also cause teeth to be complicated.
Space maintainers are placed to prevent the closure of extraction cavities after the situations in which one or more neighbor primary teeth are required to be extracted before their natural falling time.
The technical problems with space maintainers produced with the technology of today are described in the detailed description of our former patent application numbered TR201 1/12465. The technical problems with the technique of our former application and US2010136497 numbered patent application, which was a contrary document to our application, can be listed as;
The posterior and anterior bonding surfaces are fixed in the technique of US2010136497 numbered patent application. And in our TR201 1/12465 numbered patent application, the posterior bonding surface is fixed but anterior bonding surface is movable so it can rotate around its own axis. The geometry of teeth surfaces and the positions of the teeth on arch varies individually. For the fixed bonding surfaces to the posterior or anterior arm, bonding procedure is implemented after finding the proper surface on the tooth. Mostly, posterior arm's distance to the gingiva can be very far or near because of position of the bonded surface and it can even make pressure to the gingiva. That situation can cause the apparatus, which is applied to the inner mouth, to be unstuck with any force from the surface where it has been fixed. Besides in the situation of being near to the gingiva, it causes ischemia by making a pressure to the gingiva and disturbs the patient. And it also makes difficult to clean the foods which are stuck under.
— The posterior and anterior bonding surfaces are fixed in the US2010136497 numbered patent application's technique. But in our former TR201 1/12465 numbered patent application, posterior bonding surface is fixed and anterior bonding surface is movable so it can rotate around its own axis. Fixed surfaces don't let the dentist to choose the application place on the tooth surface. This situation effects the period of treatment and the comfort of the dentist negatively. It also effects comfort of the patient in use and the efficiency negatively. Dentist has to make extra twists on space maintainer.
— In the above mentioned previous techniques, posterior and anterior arms can be elongated and shortened through the tooth cavity but because of not having the ability of rotating around of their own axes, for a compatible mount to the tooth arch dentists have to apply them by twisting. That situation causes a fatigue in the metal parts of the apparatus which comprises welds in its structure. That procedure can be very difficult for the dentist and it prevents to get the desired efficiency from the treatment because of the tiny parts and narrowness of the working area. And that situation also effects negatively the patient comfort during the treatment and the usage.
— In our former TR201 1/12465 numbered patent application, posterior bonding surface is fixed and anterior bonding surface is movable so it can rotate around its own axis. So there is a risk to swallow if it is unstuck from its place. Because, anterior bonding surface is a tiny part and there is no locking mechanism in its structure.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
Invention has a posterior bonding surface and anterior bonding surface which are circularly movable around their own axes. Besides they are fixed by the segments to prevent unsticking from the arms during the usage. This fixation does not block the circular move of the posterior and anterior bonding surfaces. Posterior and anterior arms comprise rotation axis which enables them to rotate around own their axes. The arch mechanism that applies the distalization force to regain the space losses is placed outside of the tube belongs to posterior arm, which is described in our TR201 1/12465 numbered patent application.

Invention is characterized with the parts and sections of an anterior bonding surface (1 ) placed on an anterior arm (3) by a male segment (1.1 ) which is plugged to a female segment (3.1 ) on the anterior arm (3), a posterior bonding surface (2) placed on a posterior arm (4) by a male segment (1.1 ) which is plugged to a female segment (3.1 ) on the posterior arm (4), the anterior arm (3) comprising at least two parts, the posterior arm (4) comprising at least two parts, a rotation axis (5) placed between the anterior arm (3) and the posterior arm (4), an arch (6).
The arrangement of the teeth on the maksilla and mandibula with a shape of a half-moon is called dental arch. Dental arch shows differences from person to person. Besides there can be teeth in different positions, such as inwardly or outwardly, on the half-moon shaped dental arch. An upper view of a lower jaw of a patient that is modelled from the x-ray is given in Figure 1 to see the position differences clearly of juxtaposed teeth. The new space maintainer, which is the subject of our invention, is giving a freedom and easiness to the dentist on practice during the treatment without regarding the position of teeth by being movable in many axes without needing any extra twists. It also offers patients more comfort and treatment efficacy compared to existing known systems.
The posterior bonding surface (2) placed on the posterior arm (4) by the male segment (1.1 ) which is plugged to the female segment (3.1 ); enables circular movement of the posterior arm (4) on vertical axis of the end portion. That situation is also valid for the anterior bonding surface (1 ) which is plugged on the anterior arm (3) so it can make a circular movement on vertical axis. So the optimum adaptation of the anterior bonding surface (1 ) and posterior bonding surface (2) is provided to the buccal surface of the tooth. The risk of swallowing the bonding surfaces, which has no risk of coming out from the segmented structure, will be prevented.
Thanks to the rotation axis (5) placed between the posterior arm (4) and the anterior arm (3), which comprise at least two parts, the distance of the arms to the gingiva can be adjusted. Besides, in the case of shifting of the tooth inwardly and/or outwardly from the half-moon shaped dental arch, which the anterior bonding surface (1 ) is going to be bonded, the ideal bonding of anterior bonding surface (1 ) is provided by setting up the anterior arm's (3) position easily. At least one arch (6) is positioned between the anterior arm (3) and the posterior arm (4) so that the distalization (regaining of the space lost with orthodontic force) force is applied and the necessary space is gained to emergence of the underlying tooth. At least a single arch holder (3.2) and the arch (6) are stayed in their set position on between the anterior arm (3) and the posterior arm (4).
If we give an example about the application of the invention to the patient, the posterior bonding surface (2) is bonded on the neighbor tooth to the extraction cavity. Using the circular movement freedom of the posterior arm (4) on vertical axis of the end portion provides freedom to dentist on positioning during the bonding procedure. Then the anterior bonding surface (1 ) is bonded on the other neighbor tooth by adjusting the distance between the anterior arm (3) and the posterior arm (4). During the bonding procedure of the anterior bonding surface (1 ), the distance of the arms to the gingiva can be positioned by the rotation axes (5). Thus, the apparatus can be applied to the patient with the most ideal way.
Rotation axis (5) comprises a slot shaped female section (5.2) and a male section (5.1 ) corresponds to the female section (5.2) between the two halves of the arm. The female section (5.2) is placed on the half and the male section (5.1 ) is placed on the other half.
Rotation axis (5) can be formed by placing a bend in the female section (5.2). It can also be formed with a screw/nut, a shrink fit, a ball-bearing or a rotatable part that can rotate in segment bearing. That situation is also available for the bearing components for the anterior bonding surface (1 ) and the posterior bonding surface (2).
The space maintainer, which is the subject of the invention, can be made from the all permitted metal, plastic and polymer materials in dental procedures.
